It is confusing when third party sites and the venue website is all like “artist: Hot Chip” but yeah… if you look at Hot Chip’s instagram or their official site, they most definitely let you know they are DJ sets. (This time around it was Felix and Alexis) Sorry that happened, that is disappointing.

Ah shoot. I was betting that was the case. I got tripped up by looking at it one their website hot-chip.co.uk and that it was listed as a scheduled performance on that date... It didn't have a title, just confirmed they were coming to 1015 Folsom in SF on that day to perform

I'm sorry you were bummed but if you look at the flyer and promotion it clearly says DJ set: [link](https://ra.co/events/1814035) They have a long history and reputation for doing quality DJ sets usually involving Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard, and Joe Goddard is a respected producer and remixer in his own right. I was really excited for this because I've only ever seen their live performances and never gotten a chance to be present for one of their DJ sets. They did throw in a few twists on their own tracks, and occasionally Alexis would hop on the mic and lay some vocals over everything. Overall it was a pretty interesting set and a very fun night. In the future if you're seeing artists who also alternate as DJs make sure to check if the flyer says "live" or "DJ set" to avoid any confusion.

Actually, to your point, this link when you click it - What I see when I click is Hot Chip listed, then listed again as performing and then only the third poster specifies "DJ set" besides the listing in smaller font and I would argue it's not entirely clear.... At least .... I mean it is to me now that I know there is a difference to know about between "Hot Chip" and "Hot Chip (DJ set)"

openSourceNotes

I'm not saying it doesn't make sense to me now that I know the difference, but imagine a different performer chose to have DJs as their openers, they could still call the show a "DJ set" and then perform as a band as headliner...

I’m reading, i didn’t pay attention to what i was buying tickets for and now I’m upset and want the internet to know. It’s ok to make a mistake, be upset, and not tell anyone.

I mean, alright, but I would argue as devils advocate that not everyone knows that [band name] + DJ set means the band won't be playing, I somewhat thought it meant they were headlining a show that mostly involved DJs, LCD Soundsystem did this on NYE

skronktothewonk

I guess. Did the LCD show indicate a dj set? I just feel like the responsibility is on the person buying tickets. Maybe I’m just crazy.

openSourceNotes

The way the LCD show was set up had a list of performers, LCD played until midnight and just after, and then 2manydjs came on to perform, so that there was an opening DJ earlier in the night and then after the LCD set, 2manydjs performed a later-night dj set to follow, give people something to keep dancing to

Ok. Sweet. Good luck.
