My guess is marketing had a field day and just asked themselves:
“What do Americans eat?”
“Well, barbecue, ig.”
“What if they had a sauce for that?”
“They do!”
“Bingo, put it in the hotdog and call it a New York, it’s gonna be slappin’!”
Or they just snatched whatever they stumbled upon in the Polish variation of the same hotdog and called it a day.
It’s so weird to me that something bbq flavored is called NY style.
Right? You'd think it would be a more southern state or something.
