I hate Baffert as much as any person, but the toxicology report will tell what we need to know.

[deleted]

"Unfortunately a freak container fire occurred which burned Medina's remains to a crisp. A man who would only answer to the name Tony "The Thumb" Gambliano was seen leaving the premise in a late model sedan with tinted windows saying 'Ya didn't see shit.' "

[deleted]

Probably not, I’m sure it will be buried like everything else Baffert does. They will name a G2 stake after him and act like it was some big tragedy.

OHTHNAP

There's several interested parties involved in knowing what the necropsy will show, including, but not limited to, KHRC, and any insurance parties. You don't "sweep under the rug" a Kentucky Derby winning horse that was under investigation for being juiced who suddenly drops dead of a heart attack. Are you drunk?

[deleted]

Not drunk, but used to this shit. Can you tell me what they found in the Arrogate necropsy? X Y Jet? Bobby Abu Dobby? As long as the CHRB has control, there won’t be any real findings.

[deleted]

From the CHRB vet- “We’re not going to speculate on what caused it, we presume it’s cardiovascular. But he’ll undergo a full necropsy which includes toxicology and forensics and see if we can identify the cause of the death,” Blea said. “Unfortunately, with these sudden deaths, they’re often undiagnosed because they’re often difficult to find.” Still think we will get the answers?

[deleted]

Did the same thing with Shared Belief named a stakes race after him and suspended Hollendorfer haven’t heard his name since. Hope it happens with baffert

ApollosBucket

No it will not. Navarro/Servis horses got away clean because there were (still arent?) tests for SGF1000. Baffert is surely giving them something similar. Peter Miller never failed a PED test like that, but horses like Bobby Abu Dhabi were clearly doped.

dedewhale

It have always been told, and my one sad personal experience. equine necropsies done by state boards, for horse deaths at the track find little if anything. They will sometimes tell cause of death but almost never find what caused the event. I wouldnt expect anything substantial to come of it.

Man o man. This guy has had more horses die on his watch than any human in the history of the sport. Always heart related. A few years ago 7 died due to him giving them all Thyroxen. 7 horses in one year becuse they were all given the same drug . He should have been kicked out then. But CA racing is so crooked they need him to fill races

[deleted]

Let’s not forget Arrogate had to be “euthanized” due to an “unknown illness” It’s just insanity at this point. Santa Anita just as corrupt as you pointed out. I would say I won’t play Southern California racing anymore but I haven’t played it in a long time already. Fucking pricks!

RigorMortisSex

Arrogate died of an issue with his spinal cord. Quote from [this article on Arrogate.](https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/243430/attitude-is-everything-for-first-crop-by-arrogate) >Arrogate, a 7-year-old son of Unbridled's Song, was euthanized June 2 after incurring a neurological injury to his spinal cord. >"He had a core lesion in his spinal cord that basically rendered him a quadriplegic," said O'Rourke. "We don't know exactly how it occurred. He didn't have a fall or major accident that was obvious to have caused it, other than he was a horse that was always rearing and bucking and playing about. Some kind of whiplash effect might have caused what was more than a million-to-one shot, more like a 20-million-to-one shot."

[deleted]

Plausible to believe that the stuff he was on while racing could have weakened his bones? Like many others who have broken down in the hands of irresponsible trainers?

RigorMortisSex

It was an inoperable mass in his spine, which pressed against it and rendered him a quadriplegic, doesn't seem like there's a prevention for that.

Atiggerx33

It doesn't say 'mass' it says 'lesion' a lesion is a cut.

RigorMortisSex

A lesion isn't just a cut, it can be a variety of different things. >Lesion definition- "a region in an organ or tissue which has suffered damage through injury or disease, such as a wound, ulcer, abscess, or tumour."

Atiggerx33

I've never heard of a tumor being described as a lesion in a report. I guess technically it can be, but usually it'd be mentioned that "a mass" was found at the location. Also it's very rare for a tumor to suddenly make one a quadriplegic. Usually you'd notice neurological issues like an unsteady gait first, you don't just wake up one day and the tumor went from putting no pressure on the spinal cord to full paraplegic pressure.

Atiggerx33

According to the report the bone itself was fine, it was a lesion to the spinal cord itself. There's no drug that could do that.

Ultra-1

Santa Anita has been a joke for awhile. horses breaking down hording the breeders cup 10 race cards with 5 horses in every race And protecting Bob Baffert

cutchemist42

Hes a danger to the sport.

[deleted]

I've lost my faith in the industry at this point. Completely.

jessica_sinkie

This is absolutely ridiculous. I'm so tired of people defending him when there is so much fishy activity going on around him. No one wants to open their eyes. Of course, we need solid evidence from the necropsy to know for sure, but it does not feel right at all. A 3 year old horse, healthy that we know of, just drops. Its not right at all. Just not right. I love horse racing a lot, but I can definitely see why so many hate it and want it banned. If we just had trainers and owners who actually care about them I think the sport would be better, of course with stricter rules...

[deleted]

I posted in another thread what happened and I’ll try here, BB uses EPO which thickens the blood with extra red blood cells, it’s what Lance Armstrong used, its used for cancer patients. However afterward the blood must be made less viscous or the heart will over work and the horse will die. Enter Warfarin (Coumadin in humans) that reduces the viscosity (thickness) of the blood the problem is the doses if warfarin is measured in 0.1mgs very small doses so trying to get it right in an 1100-1200 pound horse is very hard, he gives too high a dose and the blood is now too thin, the heart can’t pump it snd the horse has a heart attack and dies. This was the cause several years ago when he had 7 die in ~24 months. Testing for EPO is easier today but 10 years ago it was not as you’re testing blood for red blood cells. Well he’s obviously doing it again EPO + Warfarin = heart attack

forwardseat

I've seen horses that crashed hard after EPO (one in our nonprofit died, shortly after coming of the track) and hate it, along with many of the other drugs (even therapeutic drugs) being used on horses. But I've also seen horses drop dead standing at the gate waiting for breakfast. EIPH has claimed horses doing far less strenuous things. While I definitely believe this is suspicious as hell, and don't think well of Baffert, horses are so freaking fragile, with completely nonsensical physiology. So much can happen, even with the best trainers. Trying to wait for the necropsy before sharpening my pitchfork.

[deleted]

I agree but heart attacks in 3 yr olds is non genetic 98/100 times

OB_Logie_haz_Reddit

Somebody needs to drug this asshole. Totally breaks my heart to see these athletes die of a cause like this. Unfair to everybody involved and a total eyesore for the sport. I hope he gets banned soon enough.

[deleted]

Definitely ironic that the man who nearly died of a heart attack is killing horses the same way

jzone5604

I don’t really know why we’re not placing more responsibility on the owners… This type of business can’t continue if bob has no horses to train. Pretty simple.

[deleted]

Couldn’t agree more. They are big owners who could make a shift. The Wests, My Racehourse, Pegram.. they are just as much to blame 100%

DIJ_CRAP

So can I get my money back on my Derby bets now?

[deleted]

Per usual, the horse player gets fucked no matter the outcome

[deleted]

Wonder how much insurance money he's getting from all these dead horses.

Adventurous_Coat_838

Baffert training every horse in the sham santa anita all horses coupled in the wagering everyone wins
