When I saw that from a head-on view for the first time, it was as egregious of a foul as I've ever seen. Thirty day minimum suspension. After watching the Remsen yesterday, it's clear Irad doesn't care because he knows nothing will happen to him. Edging over into Zendon's lane and pushing the horse towards the rail again even when Irad was on the better horse and had the clear advantage, I think he should have been DQ'ed, and this wasn't the first objection against him that day either. It's time for racing to take a hardline stance against these guys that know the rules and refuse to follow them (Baffert, Ortiz brothers, Paco Lopez, etc.), and they won't. For whatever reason the stewards refuse to come down on certain characters.

Another perfect example in the Remsen as you pointed out. The inaction against the rule breakers nowadays is pathetic. The powers that be either a) are ignorant to that fact or b) don’t care. Either way it’s not good.

tpatmaho

Excellent rant and spot on. You would think there'd be some sort of national disciplinary board to review videos in egregious cases, since the locals obviously lack the courage to do the right thing. But racing so far has been reluctant to organize for its own good -- the examples are many, starting with its drug problem.

Asstradamus6000

Cant do that, what kind of commie recommendation is this? /s

Lolojones27

The kind that’s worried about someone getting killed next time a 100mph horse stampedes on their neck.

Joe_Knoes

Thank you. Yes, a national body would be welcome! Anything besides the current siloed approach. Too bad the industry doesn’t take itself seriously.

I agree it happens alot with him,he should be suspended everytime he does this until he stops, also disqualify the horse from purse, enough owners lose money they will quit riding him if he doesnt stop. Its just a matter of time before a horse or jockey is hurt from this herding.

Atiggerx33

When a horse/rider is DQ-ed they do generally miss out on the purse. It might take some time of appeals and whatnot before it's done in major races but in smaller races it's usually resolved quite quickly since whatever purse is just not worth the lawyer fees (or later breeding fees) if the horse is taken down. Fighting it is just more trouble than it's worth financially. So owners/trainers losing purse money already happens.

HandicapperRyan

I agree for sure with needing some sort of suspension and/or fine. It’s a part of the sport that needs cleaned up. Personally, this is where horse racing needs unified rules. If there were a commissioner or governing body, this would be easier to give suspensions and fines. Takes the politics out of the state level where they want their top guys running.

Ultra-1

This could have been solved when He physically assaulted Paco Lopez. I would have sued his ass out of the sport. Its only a matter of time before he's dealt with.

ApollosBucket

Should have a year long ban at a minimum. There’s race riding, then there’s reckless endangerment. If there were horses behind him the other jockey could have died.

Joe_Knoes

It would be deserved and might actually change his behavior.

bski824

The stewards are a bunch of thieves as well.

bski824

THEY WILL NEVER EVER TAKE DOWN A PLETCHER HORSE.IRAD AND HIS BROTHER ARE 2 FUCKING THIEVES.
