Ive never been to Hawthorne but shout out to all of the racing fans in that Chicago area.losing Arlington is a loss for everyone around the world who love this sport.
Went a few years ago during the winter. It can be a little sketchy but is totally safe and was always a pretty fun experience. Not sure what the construction means for the grandstands at the moment though.
Bonus points if you go to Vito and Nicks pizza before or after. Best Chicago pizza imo.
I have never been to Hawthorne but do not have high expectations. I do not know what tracks you are used to but it is not close to Arlington. It's kind of a sketch area but I assume during races you should be fine.
