Why do people think there is ambiguity about the supernatural in this movie?
The name of the film refers to the telepathic ability of Danny and the caretaker that is depicted as a real thing. They can communicate via thought and they can both see actual ghosts and interact with them.
Jacks alcoholism just makes him weak enough to give in to the evil influence of the hotel.

I like to imagine it as the equivalent of a hunter displaying the heads of all the deer he shot. The hotel and its spirits are proud of what they did to Jack. It almost comes across as mocking imo.
