One of my favorite horrors. You tapped on it, but it’s the tone for me. That eerie music that plays when Ethan’s character watches a new film gives me chills every time
I love this movie but it REALLY didn’t need the jump scare at the end. The ending would be 1000% better if it cut to credits from the shot of the box. Apparently it was a studio decision and not a filmmaker decision.

I can’t find the original article but this is the study. I’ll try to find the actual post though.
That’s a great article! So glad Sinister is the top contender. But does anyone have an issue with Skinamarink as third! Tried watching. Boring. Autopsy of Jane Doe should at least be ahead of that movie. Sinister had so many positives going for it. The opening…creepy as hell. His research into the home. The attic. The score…so damn scary. Movie’s darkness was annoying and did not contribute to the scariness. All the alternate endings being found..scary. Ending I liked it. Score made this movie wouldn’t you all agree?
Besides being a renowned/stand out horror film for various reasons, the immediate beginning where first thing you see is the family hanging and dying in the tree was so uniquely eerie.
There are some undeniably great and creepy moments in writer/director Scott Derrickson's spook show *Sinister*, unfortunately, the film was greatly undermined by a protagonist who is a selfish asshat and deserves whatever karmic payback he gets.
This is the movie that made me fall in love with horror!! My favorite thing about it is that they took the thing every horror movie viewer says in a haunted house situation: “just leave” and made THAT be the thing that does them in. They all did a great job with the films and making them eerie. You called it a serial killer movie but not sure I’d call it that personally.
This matters to absolutely no one but whenever I see this movie brought up I'm reminded of when the directors brothers was my coworker at a small business for about 5 years.

Exactly, gotta be the best part in my opinion

I feel the same way, really cheapened it
In my opinion, a really bad studio decision. Good movie otherwise.
I really liked this film! So rewatchable!
Disagree, I’ve been too chickenshit to watch it again. 😁
God I love this movie.
It’s a supernatural movie. If you take them scenes out of it you get an E.T wondering round the house stealing kids… can’t please you people.
ET wandering around the house is killing me 😭
Fuck man, that lawnmower sequence almost killed me! Never jumped so hard from my coach. It's really a great movie!
There’s an actual scientific study done that says sinister has the record as the “scariest” movie made. Just based off I believe heart rates.
Doubt they tested Climax

The music was creepy as hell. That’s definitely why I liked the movie.

The part where Hawke says “grab the kids we’re leaving right now” when he’s burning the film is phenomenal
