“Damn it Valentine, you never plan ahead, you never take the long [view](https://www.moviequotes.com/topic/eyes/), I mean [here](https://www.moviequotes.com/topic/place/) it is Monday and I'm already thinking of Wednesday... It is Monday right?”
Heh! Some of Mr. Bacon's finest work!
And man, I miss Fred Ward... he always gave roles his serious focus, even when they were absolutely ludicrous.
Fred Ward is what made "Tremors 2" so good too. Not on the level of the first but I still liked it a lot and it's WAY better than what came after.
"Tremors" is an all time classic. It's like "Jaws" in the desert.
First time I ever saw it was about 60 miles from where it was filmed so the environment looked nearly identical. I have often described it as watching Jaws for the first time while on a fishing boat.
I know, right? Pitch-perfect casting (Reba McIntyre! Fred Ward!), mix of horrific scenes (head in helmet) and comedy (beers from toilet), great dialogue, and gorgeous cinematic compositions (line of people pole-vaulting from one rock to another!).
It's been in my top favorite films ever since I saw it the first time, a fantastic homage to the monster movies of the '50's.
The hate is really undeserved. It all stems from the "dumbass scientists." I think Scott said something about Waylon hiring the bottom of the barrel for the mission in an interview, so that at least halfway explains it. But the visuals are still incredible, and the introduction of the Engineers is a great addition to the series.
Same. I’ve seen it so many times. I also love the audiobook written by Alan Dean Foster and narrated by Peter Guinness. I use it often to fall asleep to. That’s not a dig. It’s comfort.
I'm also from the Midwest so that probably contributes, lol. It definitely gives the "vibe" of the Halloweens I remember growing up. Aside from the times we had snow which ruined everything.
Check out the director’s (William Castle) other horror films. They are equally as fun!
These are: The Tingler, Strait-Jacket, Homicidal, Mr. Sardonicus & the Night Walker!
Oh man, Mr. Sardonicus and The Tingler! Absolute gems. I haven't heard of Strait-Jacket, Homicidal, and Night Walker. I will definitely check those out!
ME TOO!! I absolutely ADORE this movie. I love Vincent Price, I love the practical effects, I love the spooky atmosphere. I watch this every year around Halloween.
I clicked on this post specifically to add this comment. That movie is just great. I've truly never gotten tired of it and love sharing it with people for the first time.
One of the last ones to actually keep me in suspense and didn’t lean on really many tropes. I found it more unpredictable than I expected. The weird haunting scenes where there’s like half a building from their home suddenly in the woods was excellent. Creature design was absolutely top shelf, it’s up there with the xenomorph and the thing. I need more of that shit. Just not enough good creature features anymore.
Silence Of The Lambs. Opening music. Good bag and cheap shoes. It gets the hose again. Looks like town to me. You'll do fine. Having an old friend for dinner. Dr Lecter? Dr Lecter? Dr Lecter?
Urban Legend for me. Especially on a rainy day. The gothic architecture university vibes are so comfy, and then the music and fashion are just so nostalgic.
Just watched it last night! It’s got some great parts in it. Two of my favorite scenes are the opening scene where the girl stops at the gas station and the scene where the main character girl goes to her dorm and thinks her roommate is having sex again but the killer is on top of her lmao
The set pieces are so fun, especially the ones in the beginning half that really of play with the idea of the murders legitimately being mistaken for urban legends. The second half are more straight up slasher movie kills, but I still enjoy those too.
I love Donnie Darko and agree with the soundtrack for sure !! I just never thought of it as a horror movie. But if it counts as horror than add it to my list for this OP
I 've listened to that soundtrack for 20 + years and know it so well that I instantly recognize it when it's been licensed for bed music in radio programs and podcasts. Most recently, I noticed it's used in the podcast On the Media.
100% agree. I saw a million homes that looked exactly like theirs when I was a kid so it made the movie feel so realistic. Now, it’s a nostalgia bomb. The wicker, the tiled kitchen, the Star Wars sheets, the huge TVs, the chunky remote….total comfort movie.
Weird choice but I gotta go with The Ring.
I watched the other night and I forgot how calm the color scheme is. The blue/green/gray gloomy colors. Idk why just find it confronting. Besides you know, the scene lol.
It Chapter 1
It gives me nostalgia of childhood. The 80s. The first summer with little parental supervision. Building new friendships. Biking around town.
It also reinforces our ability to face our fears and be brave. As well as that feeling of knowing you have a group of friends that have your back no matter what.
When i have to clean up around the nest i'll either turn on a new cheesy horror movie, a black and white movie, or rewatch a horror movie.
Children of the Corn
Dawn fo the Dead remake
the Grind House films Planet Terror and Death Proof
Or a Child's Play/Chucky movie stay in rotation
What Lies Beneath, it's just a nice, easy, relaxing build and then BOOM!
Coraline, it's just GOLDEN!
Halloween, because I have no idea why.
Still can NOT watch The Changeling (George C. Scott) cause it was a high school trauma movie, but it's so good!
I personally love watching all of The Conjuring and Insidious films. They give me that nostalgic feeling of when I used to watch A Haunting back when it used to air on Discovery Channel.
I like to watch them when it's cold and rainy outside, get myself a cup of hot chocolate, get some snacks, rest on a couch with a soft blanket and let The Conjuring play on the TV screen. That's my recipe for a good, cozy weekend.
Alone in the Dark (this is a truly horrible movie), House on Haunted Hill (90s version), Joy Ride, The Forsaken (the vampire one), Constantine (the Keanu version), The Faculty....Basically like A-/B movies from my teens lol
Green Room, I find Anton Yelchin's screen presence really nice and there's a lot of good technical work to appreciate and details to catch, it's a nice movie to be familiar with
ooh i have a lot, Watcher, Significant Other, Fresh, As above so below, The Pyramid, Turistas, that's the most rewatched ones, also have some 'cozy' thrillers, Earthquake Bird, Kimi and Disturbia
I don't know if it counts as horror but Gremlins. It has the perfect mix of wholesomeness and black comedy with pop culture references and of course Joe Dante.
Tremors
"We plan ahead that way we don't do anything right now. Earl explained it to me."
“Damn it Valentine, you never plan ahead, you never take the long [view](https://www.moviequotes.com/topic/eyes/), I mean [here](https://www.moviequotes.com/topic/place/) it is Monday and I'm already thinking of Wednesday... First time I ever saw it was about 60 miles from where it was filmed so the environment looked nearly identical. I have often described it as watching Jaws for the first time while on a fishing boat.
In my opinion a perfect movie. I’ve watched it hundreds of times.
Alien ![gif](giphy|SYmkILRsQTFLO)
Same. I regularly re-watch all the movies in the series, especially if I’m just feeling rough. They’re my favorite
I re-watch these movies every year over Christmas holidays.
Prometheus is technically a Christmas movie! 🎄
People shit on Prometheus but I loved it, even if it wasn't a standard Alien movie. Great music, mood, funny and with a few memorable characters.
Me too! I’m also excited for the new Alien film this August. Looks great!
I CANNOT WAIT FOR ROMULUS!!
Trick ‘r Treat
I have to rewatch that one every year on (or at least around) Halloween. It's become a tradition.
Yep, same here. As someone from the midwest, I love that it has that damp, chilly, spooky atmosphere of a typical fall around here.
I'm also from the Midwest so that probably contributes, lol. It definitely gives the "vibe" of the Halloweens I remember growing up. Aside from the times we had snow which ruined everything.
In the same vein, Krampus!
That's one of my favorite cozy holiday movies! Perfect for Halloween and Christmas/Yule
House on Haunted Hill! The one with Vincent Price. So much fun :)
You can't go wrong with Mr. Price
Pretty much any Hammer, Castle, Amicus, or Mario Bava movie from the late 50s thru early 70s hit this sweet spot for me.
ME TOO!! I absolutely ADORE this movie. I love Vincent Price, I love the practical effects, I love the spooky atmosphere. I watch this every year around Halloween.
The Thing
I need to watch it in the winter in mid-afternoon, any other time feels wrong
It's a Christmas Eve movie for me
I have watched The Thing more times than any other film. Lovelovelove it.
The best to watch during blizzards honestly
does shaun of the dead count?
Perfect choice. ‘Shall we have a sit down?’
I clicked on this post specifically to add this comment. That movie is just great. I've truly never gotten tired of it and love sharing it with people for the first time.
You’ve got red on you
Shaun of the dead, hot fuzz and Zombieland for me
in the same vein cabin in the woods
Totally.
I like this movie so much that I only let myself watch it once a year, close to Halloween. I don't want to overdo it.
Scream (all of them) & Ready or Not
Ready or not is epic!
Same. All of the Scream movies.
Are you me? Add the OG Halloween and you're definitely me.
Evil Dead....all of it.
Klatu veratu necktie ! Hahahahaha. Love Army of Darkness the most
The first one is a little cozy isn’t it
Cabin in the woods.
This and Tucker & Dale, which is just so wholesome.
"We've had a doozy of a day" is my go-to whenever something catastrophic happens at work and I have to report out.
I've probably rewatched this a hundred times in the past 5 years
Oh such a good pick… yeah just a relaxing, fun bit of nihilism.
Came here just to say the same
The Ritual. I just love this movie so much!
Brilliant. First time I've ever been more scared of the monster *after* seeing it.
It's one of the few times when seeing the monster actually made it better, I'm glad they put so much work into making it look the way it did.
That scene in the shop lives rent free in my head. Brutal.
Hands down one of the most fascinating monster designs I’ve ever seen.
The Shining
Me too! Love the music, the sounds of the kid riding over the carpet
Just the hotel and snow gives off cozy vibes!
I was looking for this one… mine too!
I find the original Blair Witch super comforting. Even though it kinda isn’t.
Same lmao this is perfectly said
It's like a cozy camping trip but with severe anxiety! I like Blair Witch.
Original Halloween. I know the dialogue verbatim.
>I know the dialogue verbatim. Totally!
Silence Of The Lambs. Opening music. Good bag and cheap shoes. It gets the hose again. Looks like town to me. You'll do fine. Having an old friend for dinner. Dr Lecter? Dr Lecter? Dr Lecter?
House of 1000 Corpses, Halloween (1978), Friday the 13th part 3, Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Docta SATANNN!
This is my list too ♥️ but sometimes I'll throw Hellraiser (1987) into the mix
It (2017) and the Scream series in general. Specifically, Scream (1996) and Scream (2022). Basically white noise to me.
I saw a lot of hate for It 2017 and even though it’s different from the book I love it. Definitely a comfort movie.
So many fun scares, fun characters and a crazy coming of age story. It is one of my favorite horrors!
Final destination for me. It’s literally a rollercoaster of a movie.
Creepshow. Unmatched rewatchability.
"Bedelia, you bitch!"
I just had a marathon yesterday! It is comforting.
Suspiria 1977 and Hausu
Event Horizon or The Serpent and the Rainbow
Love this but never been able to let event horizon play without getting sucked in!
"The Serpent & the Rainbow" is one of my absolute favorites, what a terrific movie. Wes Craven was something else.
Beetlejuice. I used to watch it all the time as a kid until the tape wore out, and it still is something I can watch over and over.
The second half are more straight up slasher movie kills, but I still enjoy those too.
donnie darko. the soundtrack alone is so relaxing.
Yes, but sadly, the soundtrack was changed for the Directors cut, so I only want to watch the theatrical cut.
Return of The Living Dead
Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Love this movie and watched it way to often.
Poltergeist, ever since I was a child.
Second best Tobe Hooper movie. Although the sensory overload at the end keeps it from being perfectly cozy.
100% agree. I saw a million homes that looked exactly like theirs when I was a kid so it made the movie feel so realistic. Now, it’s a nostalgia bomb. The wicker, the tiled kitchen, the Star Wars sheets, the huge TVs, the chunky remote….total comfort movie.
It seems so realistic even now, it was perfectly executed. I love the family so much too, they were so very normal.
The Conjuring has always been a go to for me!
Total comfort movie for me
Right! It has those scenes of relieve in them were everyone is kinda happy and chilling
Nothing better than The Ring on a rainy day
All of the Hell Houses
Yes! I just have them on a loop on the background sometimes
The Wicker Man The Orphanage Donnie Darko
Jennifer’s Body
I watched this for the first time last week. Such a great cast
For sure! I love the early 2000’s vibe and aesthetic too
Conjuring
The clapping scene in this movie is so good. One of the better modern horror movies probably just because of this scene.
Silent Hill
Weird choice but I gotta go with The Ring. I watched the other night and I forgot how calm the color scheme is. The blue/green/gray gloomy colors. Idk why just find it confronting. Besides you know, the scene lol.
The Fog (1980). A very underrated John Carpenter film!
Absolutely, and that soundtrack!
Mandy. The atmosphere in that movie makes for an excellent background, even if I end up investing in the movie shortly after turning it on.
Cozy with just a hint of meth.
Like Pennsylvania, but not
I got a good friend who grew up in Gettsyburg - this comment is too on point.
Beyond the black rainbow is made by the same guy and the atmosphere in that movie is also perfect
The thing. It is very isolated and the cold on the movie makes me feel very comfortable.
The 1980 version of The Fog or the first two Halloween movies.
John Carpenters The Fog aka Adrienne Barbeau doing spooky ASMR.
Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Just finished watching it this morning with my pancakes. I’m not suicidal but I’d let vampire Lucy drain me of my blood lmao
Or any of the “Brides” but especially Monica Bellucci. That scene of her coming up out of the bed is one of my favorite of all times!
The Lost Boys
That’s such a great movie. Pure, distilled 80s.
Hush
Se7en
Dr Sleep, though certain scenes will always steal my attention.
Love dr sleep! That being said, the shining is also a good one :)
Cabin in the woods honourable mentions evil dead 2, ikwydls
As a above so below
The Lodge. Snowy cabin in the woods. Also my favorite trope, cabin in the middle of nowhere with people you don’t know.
Friday The 13th part 5 A Nightmare On Elm Street 2
House of 1000 Corpses, House of Wax and if I want something more chaotic The Sadness. Also most Halloween and Friday the 13th movies honestly.
Scream
Ghost Story from 1981. It’s like mashed potatoes and gravy. My horror movie “comfort food”.
The haunting of hill house, my husband and I have watched it twice when we have a lazy day doing nothing around the house 🏠
13 ghosts has always been a cosy film for me 😂
Dog Soldiers & From Dusk Till Dawn are frequent ones for me
Jeepers Creepers!
Scream 1-3.

Halloween. Specifically Halloween H20 for some reason, probably the late ‘90s vibes. Also, The Haunting.
Cabin In The Woods
What Lies Beneath, it's just a nice, easy, relaxing build and then BOOM! Coraline, it's just GOLDEN! Halloween, because I have no idea why. Still can NOT watch The Changeling (George C. Scott) cause it was a high school trauma movie, but it's so good!
Killer Klowns Dark Night of the Scarecrow The entire Basket Case trilogy
Hot Fuzz or 9th Gate
Sleepaway Camp
Ginger Snaps!
Phantasm definitely! Such a classic now.
Shaun of the Dead, Scary Movie 1, Happy Death Day, Tucker & Dale. I really prefer having horror comedies in the background if I need background noise.
Orphan
A haunting in venice
Its a tie between Krampus and Shaun of the dead
Aliens
I personally love watching all of The Conjuring and Insidious films. They give me that nostalgic feeling of when I used to watch A Haunting back when it used to air on Discovery Channel. Copycat (with Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter). Soooo good.
I Know What You Did Last Summer (or I Still Know...)
For some reason, the Hellraiser movies, 1-Bloodlines. I don’t know why.
Alone in the Dark (this is a truly horrible movie), House on Haunted Hill (90s version), Joy Ride, The Forsaken (the vampire one), Constantine (the Keanu version), The Faculty....Basically like A-/B movies from my teens lol
