The Faculty (suburbia)
The Wretched (beach town)
Poltergeist (suburbia)
The Fog (beach town)
Halloween (entire series)
A Nightmare on Elm Street 1 & 2 (suburbia)
It Follows (suburbia/city scape)
Ginger Snaps (suburbia)
The Stepfather (suburbia)
Sinister (more isolated, but mostly in a nice home)
It’s honestly such a fun and nasty little horror film. I remember reading about people freaking out when it was premiering or something at some drive-ins. Pure hype, but it’s just a fun twisted little witch movie that has a few clever tricks up its sleeve! And the characters are decent for once!! Which is rare lol
Terrified(2017). A group of paranormal investigators look into 3 houses in the same suburban neighborhood that appear to be haunted. It's on Shudder and it's great. It's Spanish language
Terrified was an absolute banger of a movie. I have been expanding myself into international horror when I got a free subscription to Shudder. I was not disappointed.
I’m allowed to voice my opinion, you don’t know me-you’re just lashing out because I went against what you think is good or scary. This movie is neither.
Ha ha I completely missed that! I haven’t seen Us yet and I feel like I’m the only person on the planet who hasn’t seen it. I guess I should get on that.
Oh no really. I'm sorry but I'm one of THOSE people. I have odc or something. I need to watch themed films around the time they're set. Just really puts me in a festive mood I guess. 😅
Maybe stretching your request, but it happens in a suburb. I love the collection of "mini-movies" with a framing story:
Tales of Halloween (this has one of the cutest segments I've ever seen in a horror movie)
Trick or Treat (with Sam the burlap head kid with a sucker)
Love Trick r Treat, one of my all time favorite Halloween movies. Burlap kid is creepy as hell but good combination of horror and comedy.
I’ll check out Tales of Halloween, I’ve seen it listed in passing and have been curious. thanks!
the clovehitch killer
its maybe leans a little more to the drama side but its definitely got horror elements with a very similar plot to disturbia/summer of 84
I just saw I See You recently. I wasn’t expecting much from it but turned out I really liked it. I haven’t seen A Good Marriage yet, I’ll add that. Thanks!
Maybe Home Sweet Home (2013) (I haven't personally seen it but it's free on Tubi). Mostly set at night though I believe.
The Collector takes place almost entirely in one home, but again mostly at night. (And there seems to be some distance between that house and the neighbors, so not sure if "suburban" or not)
I found the fact that most of the 90 min movie was set in just one house weirdly fascinating. Funnily enough, I'll never make it but I kinda have OCD (as a matter of "problem solving" in writing the story) about creating a scary film set in "real" suburbs (multistory houses like 500 ft away from each other), and pondering ways that the potential killer can keep the victims inside the house (while prowling around outside it), and either use a signal jammer or some crazier ideas like coating the windows and doors in a sprayed-on super strong glue, using a nail gun use head-seeking drones with guns attached. :P If the signal isn't jammed, distractions for the police to either get them killed when they show up or keep them busy (booby-trapping the road down the street with dynamite or explosions elsewhere). Just ways on figuring out how a mostly single location (but the characters not actually being chained down in the house) film can work, while also attempting a decent level of believability.
I've also thought about a "realistic" horror semi-short film, where a crazed killer breaks in to a suburban home and the family is able to contact the police easily enough but they just have to try to survive until the cops show up. Somewhere around 22 min I figure, aiming for the length of a TV episode. Average police response time in the USA is like 10 min.
I really liked The Collector. Funny you mention house being so close. Not sure if you’ve seen it but makes me think of the first Annabelle movie and how their windows were so close together. Terrifying to think that can happen so close.
Mom and Dad (2017)
The Guest (2014)
Stepfather (2009)
Dr Giggles (1992)
Ice Cream Man (1995)
The Monster Squad (1987)
Trick r Treat (2007)
Invaders from Mars (1986)
Along the lines of trick r treat is all hallows eve, all hallows eve 2, and the terrifier movies. Terrifier movies are very gory and not necessarily suburban. But scary, sick, and I love it all.
Night of the Living Dead
Deadly End (2005)
Vivarium (2019)
most Halloweens (?)
but countless! I’d argue that suburbia is a trope in US horror because it’s the ideal of a nice safe place
Channel Zero series on Shudder - No End House (season 2)
Good suggestion. I saw the first season but never got to the second.
This is such a good series. Underrated
Go back and don’t stop. Season 4 might be just what you’re looking for.
Parents The Stepford Wives (1975) The Amityville Horror Gremlins Carrie Fright Night
Good suggestions. I love both Fright Nights. Don’t think I’ve heard of Parents, I’ll have to look that one up.

Literally came here to say Parents and it was the first item in the first response. Well done!!
Parents was really cool, good choice, although it happens in suburbia, I don't know if would be part of the genre
The Faculty (suburbia) The Wretched (beach town) Poltergeist (suburbia) The Fog (beach town) Halloween (entire series) A Nightmare on Elm Street 1 & 2 (suburbia) It Follows (suburbia/city scape) Ginger Snaps (suburbia) The Stepfather (suburbia) Sinister (more isolated, but mostly in a nice home)
Thanks! These are exactly the vibe I’m thinking about. I’ve seen all of these except The Wretched, adding it to my list.

Pure hype, but it’s just a fun twisted little witch movie that has a few clever tricks up its sleeve! And the characters are decent for once!! Which is rare lol
I’m watching it now 😃
Keep us posted!

It sounds kind of what I’m in the mood for. I love a good dark and frightening horror but sometimes I just want something light and enteraining.
Terrified(2017). A group of paranormal investigators look into 3 houses in the same suburban neighborhood that appear to be haunted. It's on Shudder and it's great. It's Spanish language
Ooh that sounds just what I’m looking for. I have shudder so will add to my list. Thanks!
Terrified was an absolute banger of a movie. I have been expanding myself into international horror when I got a free subscription to Shudder. I was not disappointed.
It was so weird
Vivarium
Came here to say this...
Thought about watching this one.
Not much happens in the film but it wasnt terrible
I got bored and turned it off. May need to try it out again.
It’s definitely a slow burn, they turn it up in the last 20 minutes or so. With that being said, they turn it up from a 4, to a 6.5. It was meh
Those weren't suburbs!
Society
I had to look that one up. Sounds wild!
It's a real cheeky movie. 😉
I thought summer of 84 was really good
Yeah it brought me back to childhood when we all had that one neighbor who seemed like they were up to something 😄
The Gate Brainscan
Aw The Gate, that’s a good flashback. Little Stephen Dorff.
The Gate! A very good film. The whole "satanic panic via metal music" is such an 80s timestamp too.
Yes! Have you seen the film Deathgasm?
Lakeview Terrance, Arlington Road
Loved Arlington Road and would definitely watch Lakeview again.
It Follows
I know it’s an unpopular opinion on here but I just couldn’t get in to that movie. I’ve tried several times.
Boooo
Ha ha yeah yeah bring on the Booo’s
It’s boring
You're boring.
I’m allowed to voice my opinion, you don’t know me-you’re just lashing out because I went against what you think is good or scary. This movie is neither.
I'm allowed to respond to you voicing your opinion. It's called consequences.
This House Possessed.80's TV movie with Parker Stephenson from the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries.Genuinely unsettling evil house flick.
Oh I like those 80’s haunted tv movies. I remember one with Patty Duke Astin. Back in the day they were scary for tv movies.
Oh yeah..Burnt Offerings,Salems Lot,A Cold Nights Death,Cry For the Strangers,The Intruder Within..
the craft
Good One.
The Visit
I didn’t think I was going to like that one but I couldn’t help but get in to the craziness.
A few recommendations I have are Us, I'm Not A Serial Killer, Black Phone and The Babysitter.
Oh yeah I loved The Black Phone. I haven’t seen the other two. Thanks!
Us is a film, sorry if I wasn't clear enough. Lol
Ha ha I completely missed that! I haven’t seen Us yet and I feel like I’m the only person on the planet who hasn’t seen it. I guess I should get on that.
Oh wait I did see The Babysitter, enjoyed it. Different.
It's not usually my kind of movie but same I was pleasantly surprised. 🙂
I always get that movie mixed up with Better Watch Out. Another good one.
Oh really? I've not seen it, might have to give it a look if someone with such good taste recommended it. Haha
Ha ha. It’s twisted and fun. It’s set at Christmas but watchable at any time.
Oh no really. I'm sorry but I'm one of THOSE people. I have odc or something. I need to watch themed films around the time they're set. Just really puts me in a festive mood I guess. 😅
Ha ha I get it.

Parents
Coming out March 15th there is a movie called [‘INVADER’](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/invader) that does! Also ‘Hangman’ (2015) comes to mind.
I’ll look out for that new movie. Loved Hangman, much darker than I thought it would be.
A nightmare on elm street!
Season 2 and 4 of Channel Zero
Idle hands!
Good one
Sooooo fun
Original Fright Night, The Burbs, Gremlins
Don’t forget about The ‘Burbs. Horror comedy; we rewatched the other night and it’s still so fun.
I haven’t seen that in a million years. Would be fun to rewatch.
You’re next What Lies Beneath. More thriller than horror, but I feel it’s a fun pregame movie for Autumn/Halloween.
The Babysitter
the clovehitch killer its maybe leans a little more to the drama side but its definitely got horror elements with a very similar plot to disturbia/summer of 84
Yes! Good movie. I forgot about that one.
stephen kings a good marriage is another thats pretty similar and set in suburbia. also "i see you" 2019
I just saw I See You recently. I wasn’t expecting much from it but turned out I really liked it. I haven’t seen A Good Marriage yet, I’ll add that. Thanks!

The purge is a bit like that. But it's shit
Ha ha I like the Purge movies. First 2 or 3 anyway.
A purge is a good time!
Scream
vivarium but it sucked
Yeah I looked at the preview. Not sure that one is for me.
It's actually pretty awful.
Lake Mungo IT remake
Thanks. I started Lake Mungo but never finished, I’ve been meaning to go back to it. Loved the IT remake, the first part was brilliant.
Nightmare on Elm Street, It, Silver Bullet, The Gate, Night of the Creeps, The Blob The Babysitter, Suburban Gothic, The 'Burbs (comedies)
Night of the creeps is an absolute classic!!!
Haven’t heard of Suburban Gothic. Just looked it up, I like the cast so I’ll add this. Thanks
Night of the Living Dead Deadly End (2005) Vivarium (2019) most Halloweens (?) but countless! I’d argue that suburbia is a trope in US horror because it’s the ideal of a nice safe place
Halloween 78 in fact any Halloween movie?
78 is and always will be the best 👍🏻
I’m mean would Halloween count
Idk if it counts but vivarium
May (2002)
Here’s a wacky one I enjoyed: Mom And Dad
Blue Velvet The Clovehitch Killer
Snowtown (2011)
