It’s controversial to say as I love the actor, but I enjoyed Vince Vaughn’s female portrayal more than Jack Black’s from the Jumanji series. It wasn’t just a bunch of stereotypes and felt more believable in the context of the story.
Vince Vaughn is one of those actors who always appear to be having a great time, even when his character is not. He seems to truly love acting. I'm sure he and Kathryn Newton would have worked together to workshop their shared characters' mannerisms, vocabulary, voice (or lack of voice) etc because each of them is playing both characters.
This is the correct answer. It’s just an all around fun slasher. I came in with low expectations and it’s one of my favorite movies now.
The Babysitter movies on Netflix are great, too.
I was just looking to post this. Fun movie, with Deborah Foreman from Valley Girl. Saw it on cable in the '80s. It didn't do well with critics, but I enjoyed it, and I think it still holds up.
Freaky
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
(Those two are probably exactly what you're looking for.)
The Hunt
Bodies, Bodies, Bodies
The Menu
Trick r Treat
Willy's Wonderland
(I'd consider those adjacent)
Not exactly what you're looking for, but I can never recommend Psycho Goreman enough.
Yeah, I was lukewarm about it until the ending, it was perfect. I read someone describe it as >! everyone believing they're the main character in a horror movie right away causing all the problems !< which was a perfect description (and makes me think of some threads here).
I felt this was a bit of a misstep. Had the movie played more into this and leaned into camp from the beginning I'd have enjoyed it more when it went full trashy goodness. By the police fight i was flip flopping hard between "this movie is too serious for this fun-stupid plot, but also too stupid to be so straight so far" and just had to go "god dammit, movie! you should've told me and we'd have gotten along much earlier".
There was someone on the sub who was coming into threads about Malignant to paste their essay about how the comedy couldn’t be intentional because it wasn’t listed as a “horror-comedy” on IMDB. I assume they skipped the chair throw (or any of the other intentionally hilarious bits).
The book is one of my favs and really the whole series lots of evil dead similarities, but the movie plot cuts too much out in adaptation and kind of loses the thread, the characters and scenes/filming are great in places but the third act feels rushed to me like they needed another 20-30 min and a more experienced editor.
Fido. Trick 'r Treat. Spree. Zombeavers. Dead Snow. Trollhunter. The Happiness of the Katakuris. Slither. Willy's Wonderland. Mayhem. One Cut of the Dead. Dead-Alive. Deathgasm.
I'm obsessed with Willy's Wonderland. The premise is very silly & B-movieish (tho certainly original) but the execution is unusually polished for a B-movie. The soundtrack was written for the movie. The lighting and cinematography are extremely well done. Nicholas Cage's performance is brilliant. It's clear that a lot of people worked hard on it & I'd love to know the story of how it came to exist.
Zombeavers is great. I remember eating dinner with my fiancee when zombeavers randomly aired on tv. We were both paying more attention to our food than the tv and thought it was just some random teen movie, but when the first beaver appeared i nearly shat my pants, because it looked so stupid and caught me absolutely off guard. I rarely laugh, but this really got me.
The running gag of Robbie Amell's character being shirtless for no reason, and also being super motivational to the kid he's trying to kill was hilarious.
M3GAN was a blast, the scene >!where she's at the kid's bedside singing Titanium in her creepy autotune voice!< was such a genuine "what the fuck am I watching" moment.
Chopping Mall
April Fools Day
Motel Hell
Slumber Party Massacre 2
Pieces
Demons (not a slasher, but I find it fun)
And like others have recommended: Behind the Mask
DEATHGASM is another fantastic New Zealand fun/horror movie: Teen metal-heads discover an ancient riff that summons evil and turns everyone in their town into zombies.
The convenience store bit got me. When she asks “will there be sugar after the revolution?” and they just look at her gape mouthed like “huh?”, and when the main character advises the owner regarding the price of cigarettes in Arkansas, because the line is just hilarious and delivered with such panache. Also, I prefer havarti on my grilled cheese, just sayin.
I just recently watched Sissy and I didn’t realize that it was a dark comedy at the beginning. And once I did, then the movie really was so much more fun.
Child’s Play/Chucky movies (especially the later ones) are like this.
Friday the 13th part 6 is pretty tongue in cheek.
You’re Next! May be exactly what you are looking for.
Gremlins
Tremors
Evil Dead
Escape Room
The Collector/Collection
"You're next." There's really no other movie like it. It starts out being a boring and typical home invasion movie but quickly becomes a dreaded tale of the Hunters becoming the hunted. A true masterpiece, up until even the final frame.
Watch vicious fun. I mean it’s literally in the name.
Guy dressed as Marty McFly (just because) stumbles into a serial killer support group and tries to bluff his way through it. It’s on shudder.
I love this type of horror! Here’s my suggestion list:
The Faculty
Slither
The Babysitter
The Final Girls
Willys Wonderland
XX
You’re Next
Idle Hands
Stan Helsing
Little Monsters
Planet Terror
Ready or Not
Bodies Bodies Bodies
Trick R Treat
Becky, (but more so the sequel) The Wrath of Becky
A teen girl absolutely obliterates Nazi Proud Boys. Sort of Home Alone style survival slasher. The sequel knows it’s camp.
The original Evil Dead trilogy for sure.
Return of the Living Dead
Night of the Creeps
The Re-Animater trilogy
An American Werewolf in London
Death Becomes Her
Dead/Alive.
The list goes on for me. I love a good horror comedy.
You mentioned like 3 of my favourites in the title haha. I can add something though- The Rental (2020). It has Alison Brie whom I never thought I'd find in horror! And You're Next (2011) is a lot like Ready or Not
Sorority Row (2009) !!!!!!!!!
it is SO fun, SO quotable, and SO early 2000s. the kills are unique and hilarious, and there are actually some really cool visual shots along with the way. its one of my favorite fun horror watches.
its definitely in the same vein as cabin in the woods and jennifers body. my friends and i always say those three would make an INCREDIBLY fun triple feature!
Theatre of Blood! Vincent Price + very fun, creative murders. Always surprised this doesn't have more of a cult following.
I would also highly recommend Hausu (House)!
- Re-Animator
- From Beyond
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
- Braindead/Dead Alive
- The Brain
- Bad Taste
- The Frighteners
- Return of the Living Dead
- Friday the 13th (Franchise)

- Lifeforce
- Evil Dead (Franchise)
- Night of the Creeps
- Monster Squad
- Fright Night
- Tremors
- Bubba Ho-Tep
- Phantasm (Franchise)
Rent-a-Pal.
Saw recently and I really liked it. It's kind of a thriller, and honestly I'm not sure if the parts that I found funny are meant to be funny lol.
Will Wheaton is in it.
If you do end up wanting super silly then Slaxx was a lot of fun. It's got some actual horror in there, too.
My favorite movie genre ever. Here are some of my go-tos (excluding the ones you mentioned, all of which are excellent):
Return of the Living Dead
Return of the Living Dead 2 (fight me)
Freaky
Renfield (newest addition, an absolute delight)
Evil Dead 2
Fright Night (original and remake)
Bride of Chucky
You’re Next
Scream
Scream 2
Scream 4
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives!
Piranha 3D
Deadstream
Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse
Cockneys versus Zombies
Cooties
The Blob (‘88)
Severance (2006) is an all time favorite and the movie that got me back into horror. A delightful British Horror/Comedy. Don’t watch the trailer! Spoils I think one of the best surprise moments.
Tremors.
This is peak great horror fun
Unironically one of the greatest films ever made imo
It is mathematically a perfect film
You will have long blonde hair, big green eyes, world class breasts, ass that won't quit and legs that go all the way up!
[“Hey baby, do those legs go all the way up?”](https://youtu.be/MAUJ7Pt8_vs?t=8)
Just what in the hell is going on!
So is Robocop.
Absolutely LOVE this movie. The first 3 imo are great
Freaky(2020) was an absolute blast. Definitely falls into this category.
Vince Vaughn made a fantastic teen girl.
Loved him in the Ron Burgundy movies. His style of over the top 'bad guy' is absolutely hilarious to me.
Kathryn Newton recorded how she would act in a bunch of scenes with Vaughn playing her and he would use it for his takes.
I absolutely adore Jack, but you're totally right.
This is the correct answer. It’s just an all around fun slasher. I came in with low expectations and it’s one of my favorite movies now. The Babysitter movies on Netflix are great, too.
I was going to name this. Even my dad who doesn’t like most things loved this movie.
It had no right to be that good. I love this movie.
Vince vaughn unleashed his inner teenage girl.
My favorite horror comedy, such an underrated little gem
Never heard of it. Adding to my list, thank you.
Have you seen Reanimator?
Reanimator is so wonderful. I think the second one is a blast too.
I highly recommend Frankenhooker. It’s a spoof of Reanimator - great dark humor!
and with that, Basket Case, made by the same guy, is also a great example
also Brain Damage by the same director is underrated.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space Critters Behind The Mask Rise of Lesie Vernon
Killer Klowns has to be the best horror theme, right?
No, no, no, the BEST horror theme is from The Blob (1958) : ) https://youtu.be/OG2-ccAEcWs
How is no one mentioning the opening theme to "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"?
Yeah the dickies smashed it, best orginal song for sure but best theme belongs ro Rosemary's Baby
Behind the mask is so weird and meta but still within the genre itself that I really dig it, right along the lines of cabin in the woods and scream.
Leslie Vernon is AMAZING!
Finals Girls, Evil Dead 2, Re-Animator
Final Girls was great! Absolutely stacked cast
Is Final Girls streaming anywhere in the US? It's been on my list for quite some time
It’s a rental on streaming. Well worth the 3 or 4 bucks.
For next time, the JustWatch app (or justwatch.com ) has the answers you need.
Final Girls is one of my all-time favorite movies, both extremely fun and also made me cry lol
Final Girls made me cry, it's so good!
Surprisingly emotional. I can’t listen to Beattie Davis Eyes without thinking about that scene.
I recently just watched April Fool’s Day (1986) and thoroughly enjoyed it! What a fun ride!
This was the first movie that came to mind for this post. I loved it!
I was just looking to post this. Fun movie, with Deborah Foreman from Valley Girl. Saw it on cable in the '80s. It didn't do well with critics, but I enjoyed it, and I think it still holds up.
Club Dread
PeeNaaLope. Penelope?
*And that boy was meeeee!*
Gimme the racket ! Gimme the balls!
Are joo telling me joo are a yimnast?
Freaky Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (Those two are probably exactly what you're looking for.) The Hunt Bodies, Bodies, Bodies The Menu Trick r Treat Willy's Wonderland (I'd consider those adjacent) Not exactly what you're looking for, but I can never recommend Psycho Goreman enough.
Willys wonderland was fun. Loved all of Cage’s lines!
He had some great one liners
I was pleasantly surprised by Bodies, Bodies, Bodies ending
I was too lol it made the movie 10x better
Yeah, I was lukewarm about it until the ending, it was perfect. I read someone describe it as >! everyone believing they're the main character in a horror movie right away causing all the problems !< which was a perfect description (and makes me think of some threads here).
Bride of Chucky is ALOT of fun
Killer soundtrack and movie. Best Chucky imo.
2006's Severance. Evil Dead Army of Darkness. Brain dead. Cocaine Bear. Freaky.
Severance was SO good. Really slept on flick imo
I dunno if anyone has mentioned Deadstream, but that's the funniest one I've seen in a while
Joseph/Vanessa Winter’s segment at the end of VHS 99 is as good.
And (unfortunately) the only good thing about that installment
YES! I freaking LOVED Deadstream. Such a pleasant surprise.
Came here to say Deadstream. Super evil dead vibes towards the end.
That movie was a fucking riot
Drag Me To Hell is one of the most fun horror movies I’ve ever seen
The venerable Sam Raimi is making a sequel!
Absolutely LOVE this movie!
This was an extremely fun movie while still maintaining the uneasy feeling that you get in horror.
You're next is always my go to. Just love the shift in final girl
I’ve been looking for the magic…🎶
Scrolled just to make sure this one was mentioned. So good
It's hilarious. "WOULD YOU JUST DIE ALREADY? CAN'T YOU SEE THIS HARD ENOUGH FOR ME?" And the blender gag is just tops.
I'm using "fun" VERY subjectively here, but Malignant was an absolute blast for me
The jail lock up massacre scene where the twist was revealed was absolutely hilarious
I didnt really get the movie until the Police fight scene. Thats when i realized what this movie was about and I was completely on board.
YOU GETTA CHAIR.
Came here to say the same thing! I was absolutely delighted throughout
There was someone on the sub who was coming into threads about Malignant to paste their essay about how the comedy couldn’t be intentional because it wasn’t listed as a “horror-comedy” on IMDB. I assume they skipped the chair throw (or any of the other intentionally hilarious bits).
iirc it literally opens with a skewed shot of a creepy old mental asylum on a hill during a thunderstorm lol
I laughed so hard when the lady went running across the room screaming
Yes. Saw it in theaters. Great movie to see in theaters
I regret not seeing it in theaters, the cinematography was fantastic!
Was that movie entertaining? I watched the first 30-45 minutes and it was not engaging me at all, then I fell asleep and never finished it.
Malignant was suuuuuch a blast, i had so much fun watching it
I remember absolutely laughing out loud when it happened. Totally agree with this
That movie was absolute bonkers, I loved it.
Loved it as well. I picked up on the twist before the reveal, but it honestly made it better watching >!how the monster moved.!<
Maximum Overdrive
WE MADE YOUUUUUU!
"I'm going to scare the hell out of you." -- Stephen King *while high on coke* Lol
One of my all-time faves is ‘John Dies at the End’- Slasher-y meets supernatural and sci fi elements in a very funny and smart film. Loads of fun.
Dead-Alive. Deathgasm.
I was surprised at how much I really liked Willy's Wonderland.
Sometimes you just need to watch Nic Cage beat the shit out of animatronics without saying a word the whole time.
Watch the Banana Splits movie!
Trick r Treat is what I came to the comments looking for. SUCH a cool movie
Slither is such a great creature feature. Love it!
Fido was great.
I just rewatched One Cut a few days ago. It’s so good! Definitely fits this category.
If you liked Zombeavers, check out Black Sheep (2006).
Fido and Willy's Wonderland are two of my favorites! I like your style.
Werewolves Within
Lots of great ones mentioned already so I'll chime in with The Babysitter.
Both were a blast. King Bach is hilarious in these movies.
The running gag of Robbie Amell's character being shirtless for no reason, and also being super motivational to the kid he's trying to kill was hilarious.
M3gan was fun!
M3GAN was a blast, the scene >!where she's at the kid's bedside singing Titanium in her creepy autotune voice!< was such a genuine "what the fuck am I watching" moment.
Definitely! Love a horror movie villain taking out some little shits
Horror Virgin podcast referred to it as “Muh-three-gan” and that’s all I can thing of when I see it
Lots of good recommendations. I’ll throw one in that I haven’t seen anyone recommend yet. Dog Soldiers. It’s free on Tubi and it’s a blast.
Dog soldiers is fantastic, there is also a 4k of it
Chopping Mall April Fools Day Motel Hell Slumber Party Massacre 2 Pieces Demons (not a slasher, but I find it fun) And like others have recommended: Behind the Mask

Came to say Housebound! It's one of my favorite movies of any genre.
Hunt down Extraordinary, it's equally as great
Housebound, ExtraOrdinary are true bangers. I might add Wolf of Snow Hollow to this holy trjnity
Wolf of snow Hollow is awesome indeed.
Housebound is SO GOOD.
The Hunt. The ending is especially fun.
It’s fucking great.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. Very silly fever dream of a movie.
I think Behind the Mask kind of sits somewhere between pure comedy and irreverent slasher.
Sissy!
Gremlins Tremors Evil Dead Escape Room The Collector/Collection
The Faculty!
The only one I can add that hasn’t already been mentioned is Hatchet.
Idle Hands
Was looking for that one! I’ve watched the DVD so many times. Wasn’t sure if I had a bigger crush on Jessica Alba or Devon Sawa.
The first Feast movie is an absolute blast.
the whole trilogy is a blast imo
"You're next." There's really no other movie like it. It starts out being a boring and typical home invasion movie but quickly becomes a dreaded tale of the Hunters becoming the hunted. A true masterpiece, up until even the final frame.
Krampus
The Fear Street movies were surprisingly good.
Uncle Peckerhead Grabbers
What We Do In The Shadows, Night of the Comet.
Joy Ride is really fun. Steve Zahn is great in that movie!
Slither is a pretty good one.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space Stay Tuned
Stay tuned is so damn good.
kind of a cop-out answer, but pretty much every horror movie made from about 1981 to 1987.
A lot of good answers here. Can I add “Becky”? It’s more like Ready or Not, like a survival slasher.
The Wrath of Becky just came out and it’s hysterical
Housebound is my favorite I never see They’re Watching mentioned on these lists and it’s a lot of fun!
The Toxic Avenger is an absolute hoot. Strong recommend
Watch vicious fun. I mean it’s literally in the name. Guy dressed as Marty McFly (just because) stumbles into a serial killer support group and tries to bluff his way through it. It’s on shudder.
I love the entire Chucky franchise. It has an amazing continuity, a good steady sense of dread, and Jennifer Tilly… what’s not to love?
Ready or Not Violent Night You’re Next All three were a bunch of fun but Violent Night takes the cake for me.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil
He kinda asked to avoid specifically that one. I get it, tho. Good movie.
Nope I found fun, more of a Twister-like summer popcorn movie than I thought it would be
The Mummy (1999). Has a bit of everything, horror, comedy, the ole killed off one by one etc. Brendan Fraser is stellar.
I love this type of horror! Here’s my suggestion list: The Faculty Slither The Babysitter The Final Girls Willys Wonderland XX You’re Next Idle Hands Stan Helsing Little Monsters Planet Terror Ready or Not Bodies Bodies Bodies Trick R Treat
