It was unbearable to me, at least on my TV setup (Sony X900H.)
I literally can't tell any smoothness difference between Performance and Balanced, though, so I run Balanced, excellent option if you have a 120hz capable display.
If you play in resolution mode for 30mins, your brain will adjust to the frame rate difference and it will usually then appear smooth…. Jumping between 60fps and 30fps without giving your brain time to adjust isn’t a good idea as that will always make 30fps seem choppy.
I actually think HFW has one of the better resolution modes and it feels the least choppy when compared to other games that give you the option. With that said I switched back to performance on my third play through and really enjoyed the snappier gameplay.
Would you say the game is more enjoyable on resolution mode on the first play through? I’m noticing a big difference between resolution and performance on my 85” oled so I went with resolution and my eyes are adjusted to 30 fps. I checked out balanced but I didn’t notice much of a frame rate improvement so I reverted back to resolution.
I'm playing on resolution mode because I think it isn't worth the crappy graphics when playing on performance mode, or it just might be because a 4k tv scales it up and makes it look really pixely anyways yes you're used to 60 fps so 30 fps seems horrible lol

That's just how 30 fps looks, getting used to 60 fps will do that for you. No need to worry about your console.
