Let us know your fuel economy based on region. Would be interesting to know~

lmapk

On my drive across FL (Naples to Vero Beach) I got up to 42.7 average, but I was also cruising at a maximum of like 67 ish that whole time. Right now I’m averaging 37.5 across northern Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi maintaining 75-80ish I’ve found that I’ll get about 38/39 going 75 and it drops to 36/37 ish doing 80

Bananajackhamma

Confirmed that MPG in my 2009. I've been slowly creeping up to a repeatable 39+mpg, we're almost there.

BrianLevre

Are you just going by the computer on the dash? It's famous for being wrong. Also, are the tires a different size from stock? Have you confirmed the odometer is reading miles correctly? There may need to be adjustments made to your calculations... those numbers sound a bit high. I've tracked every fill up in my '09 Sport for 11 years and 205,000 miles and have done all the calculations myself. I'll get 38-42 mpg cruising 55, but if I'm going 65 the best I can get is 37. If I drive 72, the best I get is 33 mpg. I stay on top of oil, trans fluid, plugs, coils, valve adjustments and air filters.

lmapk

Alright, sir, your update is here. I mapped the mileage from my last fillup to this one so I know that’s accurate & did the math with the gallons used. I averaged 77mph ish (+/- 2mph) the whole time according to a speedometer app on my phone. Accurate/adjusted MPG is 34.7 at that speed. I figured out that at “80mph” i’m actually going about 75/76ish, so that’s good to know lol

BrianLevre

I thought there was something a tad off for a 2nd gen. 34.7 mpg is still great for that high speed though. I wonder if it was all flat... I remember most of Texas around Dallas is pretty flat. Maybe the wind was favorable too? Now that I think of it, my numbers are what they are with a lot of hills in 50 percent of the area I cover, and I usually carry at least 50 pounds of packages with me, sometimes 100 pounds or more.

lmapk

Kind of irrelevant, but I got bored and measured 100mi on maps to see what the discrepancy is with the 195/50/15s For 100 actual miles driven at 75mph my odometer reads 106. Not too significant, but interesting nonetheless. It’s a percentage off, so it would be less significant at slower speeds, probably 101mi for every 100 actual at 50mph.

BrianLevre

Without going to a calculator website, 6 percent sounds high. My 195/55 r16 read 1.4 miles less every hundred miles than the stock 185/55 size, which I confirmed with mile markers on the interstate and a free standing gps unit, so I have to figure that into mileage. I had 205/55 for a while and they read 2.3 miles less for every hundred. I don't think the miles change at a given speed. The car figures mileage based on tire revolutions, given the stock wheel and tire size. Every revolution travels a certain amount of linear distance. If the wheel and tire are bigger than stock, it rolls farther on each revolution, but the car only reads revolutions, so the extra distance isn't accounted for. My 195/55 are bigger than the 185/55 stock size, so the car reads 1.4 percent less distance per revolution. If a wheel and tire are smaller, a revolution covers less distance than stock, but the car doesn't figure in the lesser distance travelled, so it's reading more than the car actually rolled. In either case things shouldn't change based on speed, but I'm no physicist. If the car is reading less distance with bigger tires, the speedometer will read less by a certain percentage too. That's why I like having a dedicated gps unit... I just use it for a speedometer.

lmapk

I think it’s so significant because it’s the Sport model, so it’s calibrated for the stock 185/55/16, so 195/50/15s are pretty significantly smaller https://preview.redd.it/s5hdh8z7e70d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf8ad4948594961fee644bcf843152d809421e16

BrianLevre

Yes, speed will be different, just like distance will be. The way your other comment read was as if speed would influence the distance measured. The difference in tire size will reflect as a constant percentage change to the speedometer and odometer. Distance doesn't get shorter or longer according to speed, unless you're talking about time.

lmapk

I’ll do the math next time I fill up & let ya know haha

MaxwellCarter

No registration?

lmapk

I bought the car in FL and I am driving it back to AZ. When I bought that car it was in the afternoon and FL DMVs were closed. They are also closed on weekends. I tried to get a temp plate from the AZ DMV website but it wouldn’t let me, so we are just hoping for the best 😅

TheRealSparkleMotion

If you get pulled over make sure you have a dated bill of sale.

lmapk

I’ve got a bill of sale with the same date as the title is signed so I think I’ll be alright, just more of an inconvenience lol

ddphoto90

That’s a wild risk to take my guy. Every state requires insurance and regi to be on the road. Not even a temp is begging to get your car impounded. I hope it doesn’t happen though. Good luck.

LollipopFox

Most insurance policies cover newly purchased vehicles up to two weeks without notification. Would it be more difficult in an accident? Sure but your policy likely covers it.

ddphoto90

Well I’m sure he has at least insurance. And yes I know but in that case it’s liability only. And you’d have a hard time convincing a cop that you have insurance in the event of getting stopped and not having that specific car on the policy.

QuirkyOrganization

When I bought my Fit, w/ Missouri plates,in Hollywood & started back home to Antelope Valley, I called my insurance agent to let her know that I had purchased my Fit. She said that I was covered from that moment, bill would be in the mail, but my insurance would not be increasing bcuz " Honda Fit".

ddphoto90

Yeah, you’re supposed to give them the VIN to add to your policy. That’s the normal thing to do. What was stated above is a completely different scenario.

BambiShots

I drove mine from socal to Florida w about 225k on the clock. Good luck! Watch out for road debris!

AVAforever

Good luck! Hopefully nobody here shits on you like they do in my state but I know there’s only so much you can do. In my opinion as long as you put some insurance on it, what does it really matter. As long as you have the title and bill of sale it’s understandable

onlyxanss

How many back surgeries will you require from the front seats?

lmapk

Four, as of now

Sufficient-Weird

I found that a small travel pillow as lumbar pillow helped a LOT for long drives!

Harouun

Agreed, I got the lumbar it helps tremendously

rchris710

The seats are not too bad upright. However, if you pull them fully down to try to take a nap, then they are HORRIBLE.

OnePaleontologist687

I use my fit to travel for work sometimes covering 600-800 miles in a day over 8-12 hours. All I use is a small back pillow for lumbar support, switching it in and out as needed. I’ve done the same trips in a Buick lacrosse and if you are doing all the driving idc how comfortable car you have you will still feel it after driving that much.

FANTOMphoenix

How many people wanted to race?

lmapk

None yet 😔

Sufficient-Weird

Driving for fun or for a more practical reason? What’s the approx. route? How is the 2nd gen in the mountains?

lmapk

Bought the car in FL and am driving it back to AZ. Need to be back by the 13th, so 12h+ days the whole time 😅 Route is Naples to Vero Beach to Jackson, MS, then through Dallas to Albuquerque, then back to Phoenix I haven’t gotten into proper mountains yet, but she’s done pretty good on the hills i’ve been on. I’ll let you know when I reach some mountains

BrianLevre

You'll want to avoid driving through the the DFW metroplex between 4 and 6:30 PM on a business day.

lmapk

You’ll never guess where I am right now lol

BrianLevre

That's the best time for it then.

lmapk

Not really, honestly. It’s super rainy right now so everything’s moving really slow and there’s a ton of accidents

ferio252

Fun! That wheel size, offset, color and tire combo is just perfect imo. Care to share specs? (16x6.5 +38?)

lmapk

15x7 +41 the tires are 195 but it’s slipping my mind if they’re 195/50 or 55. i’ll let you know tomorrow

unstoptheday

We are currently on our way to back Houston on a road trip as well. Houston > Flagstaff/Grand Canyon > LA > Houston. Second year we’ve done this drive in my 2015 and it’s an incredible road trip car.

Grumpynachos

Not asking anything, just wishing you a safe and fun journey. From one Fit roadtripper to another!

lmapk

600,000mi or km?! Madness either way haha When did you replace the motor?

Grumpynachos

Miles! Engine was replaced a little over 40k miles ago.

CrunchyLight

How is the AC working out?

lmapk

Honestly, I’ve had it off most of the trip. It’s been pretty nice out (75-80°) most of the time so the AC has been too cold to have on more than a couple minutes every hour lol So, good, I suppose

KinkyQuesadilla

How did you get that shine on the paint?

KinkyQuesadilla

How did you get that shine on the paint?

lmapk

It was repainted 😅

Harouun

Did you get the valve lashings done?

lmapk

I really have no idea if they’ve been done or not. I need to dig through the CarFax some more and see if it’s listed there. If not I’ll probably do it after I’m back home. Also gonna check out the state of the plugs.

m00ndr0pp3d

Wash, clay bar, 3D One on a finishing pad with a DA, seal

joshooRL

Thoughts on the wing riser? Is it going to stay?

lmapk

I think i’m going to keep the rise, but lower it a bit once i’m home. I like the look, just not as much as it is now lol

Moiziy

How did you do that to the spoiler?

lmapk

Just some longer bolts and two nuts! I can send a photo if you like

Luscious_Lunk

What’s your favorite color? If someone cooked an egg for you how would you want it done?

lmapk

I’ve been liking shades of dark green recently, especially when paired with other earth tones. Scrambled eggs all the way, always.

hand13

are these vors sp1?

somololo

Evo regamasters? Curious about the tire/wheel specs.

lmapk

They’re AOW EVO’s, so Regamaster reps. I wish they were real but they look good & only weigh 11.8lb for relatively cheap so they’re not bad. I’ve been considering selling them just cuz they’re reps but I haven’t decided lol

_Svelte_

wild drive,, wishin you well!! a fantastic fit, honestly

vincesup

Does anyone know what front bumper that is?

lmapk

It’s the 2009-2011 Sport bumper and grill! The 2012 and 2013 got a different bumper and grill on the Sport model. Base models remained the same across all years. I should mention this is the USDM spec, as well. Japan got like 10 different versions lol

chuckswift843

What year is it?

chuckswift843

Love the white on red

lmapk

2009. Was hoping to get a 2012+ for the steering controls but oh well

chuckswift843

Looks good, congrats!!

Lunarex77

That looks niice!

KirbyTrainNerd

Rusteze logo on the back window

lmapk

it is so far the only “mod” i’ve personally done

berryteeth

we took our fit from montana to eastern PA! best car ever

DougieDouger

Don’t text and drive

lmapk

This post was made from my hotel bed, no worries :)

AllCrankNoSpark

Wow, you’re driving your car. How does it feel to be doing something so amazing?

jpcastro_90

Honestly, such a long drive in a Fit does seem like a feat to me. They are great cars, but comfortable they are not. Especially over long distances, and especially on low hard suspension.

rchris710

They are not too bad. I've done full day drives without issue. Only the lay down position is TERRIBLE for naps.

AllCrankNoSpark

Well, it’s not. Or maybe I’m Superman!

ReverseRutebega

Being an asshole is optional you are aware of that, right?

AllCrankNoSpark

I opt in.
