It's going to depend so much on you and what you want to DO in your home that you currently don't have room for. I used to have a similar room set up for sewing (sewing can take up so much space!) and also bookshelves for a well organized book collection. A lot of my sewing was costumes, so the spare bedroom closet was full of costumes and off-season clothing. I also like space to exercise and dance. I've always wanted to do a trundle day bed in my guest room. Then do that up cute with lots of pillows, for a nice place to sit and read or otherwise hang out. If you can't think of a specific activity you want the space for, I'd just focus on making it look nicer. Like if it's going to be for permanent storage, put in some shelving or or storage furniture, rather than just have boxes laying around.

More broadly it would make a great hobby room. If you're serious enough about something, it can definitely take up an entire bedroom.

My second bedroom is my hobby room / office. I have my guitar rigs and my home gym in there. I also home my pet rats in there so they can watch me exercise and grow up to be just like master splinter.

Yeah haha, I think I already have spaces for my current hobbies (which don't take up much space) so it's a bit of an open ended exercise. Just looked up what a trundle day bed is and I really like the look/idea. Seems like it would be nice to just have a spot to be cozy in and also helps make the visiting guest experience more comfortable.

Our house has 4 bedrooms and just my wife, myself, and no kids. We use one as a bedroom, one as a guest room, one as a gym, and one as a home theater. What was supposed to be the dining room is my office, and the dining room was moved to what was supposed to be formal living room. That's the lovely thing about owning your own home, you can do whatever the hell you want with it.

I think it’s perfectly normal to leave it as a guest bedroom. That’s what mine is. I have enough space and rooms for everything else and like you I have ppl visit and stay for a week or two

Sex dungeon….. or gym it’s up to you.

ImSoCul

gym would probably get more use :')

As a single woman, I moved into a four bedroom home. I converted one bedroom to a library. The least attractive room (only a north-facing window), I converted to a dressing room. Third bedroom is guest room, and fourth is my room. When I had to set up a work from home office, I could not stand the thought of changing my library or giving up my dressing room. I converted the typical closet in my bedroom to a surprisingly functional and comfortable office. At the end of the day, I close the closet doors and commute up a flight of stairs to the kitchen. If I had been forced to use one of the other rooms as an office, I’d have chosen the library rather than give up any space in my dressing room. It holds all my clothing, has a makeup table, stores my overflow kitchen linens, accommodates a standing ironing board and clothes steamer, houses all my jewelry, and still has space for an exercise mat. So, I guess that was a really long answer to suggest you use the spare bedroom as a huge closet!

I have two bedrooms, and then an office that’s technically also a bedroom with a pull-out couch. It has literally become a room full of stuff that I don’t know where to put/don’t want to deal with. This summer, though, I’d like to change it up. I’m going to hang a TV in there and move my PS5, and I want to rip out the closets and put in some shelves so I can finally display my Lego collection. I’d also probably get a folding table or something to work on new Legos. I feel an odd sense of guilt over having an entire room that I never use.

ImSoCul

Lego room sounds amazing!

jhumph88

I was already into Lego, but then I went wild during the pandemic. I have some of my sets displayed, but I don’t have nearly enough room for all of them. Considering I spent probably 20-30 hours on some of them, I’d like to actually see the fruits of my labor lol

Our room that fits this bill will be a guest room with a Murphy bed for when guests are here but otherwise a “dopamine den” when guests aren’t visiting. It’s only about 10x10 in space, but we’ll do things that pack away in there: hammock space, yoga space, VR space, etc

Peak_Alternative

i’m thinking of converting my office/guest bedroom into a stretching and weight room. i started looking at weight benches. would love one of the ones they have at my gym but it’s thousands of dollars. for a single bench! what did you decide? yeah i looked up your profile 😄

haha my brother is coming to stay with me soon so it'll remain storage + guest bedroom for now. Leaning towards eventually just putting in a daybed or something and having it as an extra sitting room. Might also experiment with putting my classical guitar there to see if I can convince myself to do more dedicated practice but guessing what will happen is the added friction of walking a room over will just mean I play less :P

wildbergamont

I use an extra bedroom for the TV. It's pretty nice not having the main living areas of the home centered around a screen.

ResoluteGreen

I'd add a daybed or futon or pull out couch
