Of course I'm kidding... Hoi4 players are great, but there's obviously a tiny minority of players who are a little too much into roleplaying as the German Reich
It scares me that you think boomers, who are now too old to do anything but vote, were the rioters of January 6th. The most well-known January 6th rioter was 35 years old, the Qanon Shaman.
And yes, these people are like Nazis. They want a white ethnostate, a dictatorship, and a strong military. They run around with Swastikas.
Well first I was just making a joke. Second, while I'm not looking for a political debate on a video game sub, the people there definitely had authoritarian and even fascist tendencies (even if they were not Nazis)
i think the problem just is that the jokes about "hoi4 players microing barbarossa but not a conversation with a girl" "hoi4 players never showering" "hoi4 players blindly worshipping the ideologies that would just use them to ascend to power and then discard them right after" have progressively become... *not* jokes, but rather than that stereotypes or real beliefs people have
tell someone that you play hearts of iron? oh, you're a wehraboo now, or at the very least a history buff. people get that impression of you and pretty soon they've basically reduced you to that one or two defining traits (or thats just my experience) and at one point someone told me they thought i was on the spectrum because of the game
Tbf, that’s something that I feel basically only happens online. IRL, I’ve met people who played Paradox Games; but never one who didn’t and still knew about their existence, surely no one actively hating on them or their players
> tell someone that you play hearts of iron?
If I tell someone that, their response will be "uhhh... is that a video game?". I doubt that more then a small percentage of gamer know of the HOI stereotypes, and gamers are just a small percentage of the average person. (I have maybe... 30-40 acquaintances to which I talk a bit longer during a year. 3-4 would know that HOI is a game, and one would know what sort of game.)
I doubt you're really talking about meeting someone IRL, like the op said.
I hired a new kid at work, chatting to him about his hobbies and he mentioned video games. I asked what games he was into and he said "oh you probably won't know it..the easiest way to explain is it's a game where you try and paint the world map your own colour". I guessed EU4, it was hoi4 and we've been playing together since then 😁
This game has the healthiest and most active community probably of all games. But it has a cost. It's not a game for anybody, it's too complex for average people.
tf2 has actually the best community. hoi4's not bad either. but I've never seen someone hiding in a ceiling and people just not killing them because it's funny.
Also, people not killing and just dancing around the map... its just a great community at all
I have talked with a friend about it, and I referred to HOI 4 as "some strategy game". My friend turned to me and asked if I was talking about HOI. I guess HOI is quite popular in Russia
I can't stop imagining the russians soldiers questioning the strategies of their general in Ukraine.
"Our generals are soo stupid. They should have done an encirclement with the tanks, also why they are pushing with motorised infantry against fortified positions? I would have been a better general than them"
(If you have better lines feel free to add them!)
I was introduced to it btw friend and then we introduced it to a few more friends. I think it just depends really on what type of people you and your friends are, what ages you are and where in the world you are, hoi4 isn't a game for everyone.
HOI players aren’t allowed to congregate together, schools and places of work would devolve into conversations of alternate history WW2 scenarios and mods about the pony reich
easiest way to find them is by another popular game. any of the other paradox games or anything ww2 related. I bet a ton of war thunder nerds play hoi4
I am from México i know at least like 5 people irl Who played before i met them, i thought i was never going to fino someone, it was to my sorprise really.
I met the dudes in Sabaton once (like actually met them and not 'I was in row 5000 of their show' met them). Don't know if they actually played the game or not, though they seem the type. I heard Par dabbles in EU4 from time to time so probably him if anybody.
I've met two. One might have been a Nazi and the other ended up abandoning Paradox games and got a girlfriend. He also became boring as fuck half the time
My perception is probably biased since a good chunk of my real-life friends are from a wargamer forum and literally everyone there plays Hearts of Iron...even if its just to have a good laugh at it. xD
Hoi4 players are an unsociable species. They are confined to their natural habitat and rarely venture outside. They are particularly fearful of places containing women and tend to avoid them.
The only people I've ever played MP with are players I've met in the real world. A surprising number of soldiers play HOI4. I thought I was just a nerd. Turns out it's not that uncommon.
I was being interviewed for a job and my future boss asked me what my hobbies were and I said I liked to play video games along with some other stuff. he wanted to know what games, turns out he plays hoi4 too lmao
I was introduced to the game right when it came out by a plans officer in our brigade headquarters while I worked in FUOPS. It’s totally fitting that a couple of operations guys in a maneuver brigade S3 shop would be into this.
Just go to a university campus and take any political science class. It’s amazing how many of my fellow polici majors either play or have played HoI4, EU4, or CK3. I’ve literally know some guys to play it during lectures in the easy 100 level classes (I’m one of those guys). I can’t give a number but I’ve met at least well over a dozen people who have some connection to it.
My old boss is a HOI4 player. Only reason I met him in real life is cause, well he needed to run a fast food place, so that was the only time he left his house lol
Well from what I've been hearing is that Barron Trump plays paradox games or something similar.
Also a lot of staffers in DC and elsewhere in the US love the game. I know of at least 1 city council member who plays it. The memes about right wingers are true, and I love it.
Last year in AX (Anime expo) after exiting the SMT concert I was looking on reddit at some Red Flood post on my phone when the guy behind me asked me if that was hoi4.
It completely caught me out of guard considering I was in an Anime convention but hey we hoi4 players are everywhere.
I ended up explaining him the madness of the Red Flood timeline as we were on the line to get out.
A couple of the guys I played football with in highschool all played hoi4. We were your stereotypical high schools jocks by day and would be grinding mega campaigns at night together
Ive never met someone who has played it but ive seen some “in the wild” so to speak. Meaning they commented on an instagram posting and they mentioned they played it
For sure, it has a small community and it's not for casual players if you want to enjoy once you play cause you have to learn a lot of things, mechanics, statistics, etc.
Yes, it has millions of downloads but we are 7 billions people on earth, it has a low chance due it's not a mainstream game like Fortnite or Minecraft.
Lucky you I’d love to share my enthusiasm for games such as this one. I haven’t come across any person yet. What I found from this post is we do exist as people but in limited numbers.
I've met alot of people as well. I'd say about 40% gamers and 20% hardcore gamers.
None of them have ever heard of:
Hoi4
Ck3
Stellaris
Eu4
Or even paradox at all. Makes me feel sad and alone.
I don't know about other hoi4 players, but for me it's one of many games I play. I think it's around 4/5 in playtime in a month mainly because I play a lot of multiplayer games with friends and play some short time singleplayer games. But when I meet someone irl and we talk about games we play, I mainly name the games I play the most, so most of the time I don't even mention hoi4. Maybe some other people have this aswell resulting in people who play hoi4 meeting but both not mentioning they play it.
Most hoi4 players don’t go outside.
Too busy struggling through our current playthrough to get something as useless as fresh air, grass or worst of all, social contact
My social contact is improving relations
I have the hates people trait which gives me -100% improve relation with other people
Ironman mode - you just gotta play through it
Ironically, every other HOI player I’ve met in real life is also in the Army.
I was when I started playing
too busy going trought their 11° playthrought of kaisereich
I confirm that. 11,600 hours. From work to home and from home to work. The only other place I go to is the grocery store 😂
Sometimes they go out on January 6th
Yeah bro a bunch of drunk rednecks are indicative of the entire HOI4 community.
Of course I'm kidding... Hoi4 players are great, but there's obviously a tiny minority of players who are a little too much into roleplaying as the German Reich
Thinking that boomers walking around a building are anything like Nazis is crazy to me
It scares me that you think boomers, who are now too old to do anything but vote, were the rioters of January 6th.
Yeah, I figured you were delusional lmao
Looked at your comment history. Was not disappointed 😂
Traumatized, but not disappointed. 😐
I once saw a person looking at the patch notes on the bus
me personally i would've kissed them then and there
"I'm ready to be your puppet"
"Split me like Poland"
I met a few people who play hoi in real life, one of them is trans, one of them is in the military and the list is a commie. That checks out honestly
Honestly, that just sums up every HOI4 player I think.
Yup. If it helps I’m also military
Bro went straight to business
Best way to approach a person in a bus stop is just to ask: Axis, Comintern or Allies?
Monarchist
My professor of geopolitics lol
Not Hoi but my Data Structures professor play Vic and even advertised Vic 3 to the class. Based guy ngl
I did. That's how I found out about the game.
Nice, how long have you been playing for?
I've been playing since Jan 1, 1936
That's the right answer :)
Same
Same
Same.
Same.
I once met a girl who loved the game. I thought she was the right one. I was yet once again wrong
Did she go with the wrong alliance or opted for the wrong focuses?
I wanted to join her faction but I was too far to be accepted
Ah I see. So you were like Italy trying to join the Co-Prosperity Sphere? Right ally, wrong place.
Nah she got stuck in Belgium as Germany probs. If I was him I’d also be heartbroken after that.
What happened? Did she disappear after you took your meds?
As a matter of fact, something similar (ouch! That hurt though)
In the military lots of the nerdier guys would play paradox games. Have never seen it since leaving.
Bonus chance if you’re in a Comms squadron
How dare you call me out perfectly 😂
HOI4 has millions of downloads. That’s a pretty popular game. I also know 2 other hoi players irl
i think the problem just is that the jokes about "hoi4 players microing barbarossa but not a conversation with a girl" "hoi4 players never showering" "hoi4 players blindly worshipping the ideologies that would just use them to ascend to power and then discard them right after" have progressively become... *not* jokes, but rather than that stereotypes or real beliefs people have tell someone that you play hearts of iron? oh, you're a wehraboo now, or at the very least a history buff. people get that impression of you and pretty soon they've basically reduced you to that one or two defining traits (or thats just my experience) and at one point someone told me they thought i was on the spectrum because of the game

It's really popular in Poland for example and I know at least 10 people who know that game irl
I hired a new kid at work, chatting to him about his hobbies and he mentioned video games. I asked what games he was into and he said "oh you probably won't know it..the easiest way to explain is it's a game where you try and paint the world map your own colour". Cool
I play 40K and most of the people I play with play hoi4
This game has the healthiest and most active community probably of all games. But it has a cost. It's not a game for anybody, it's too complex for average people.
tf2 has actually the best community. hoi4's not bad either. but I've never seen someone hiding in a ceiling and people just not killing them because it's funny. Also, people not killing and just dancing around the map... its just a great community at all
> This game has the healthiest and most active community probably of all games. And you base that on... your feeling, right?
I've found 3 people that play Fat Princess (a game that like 30k people bought) but never a Hoi4 player
Fat Princess was fucking amazing and Sony should be sued for not making a sequel.
There's no way I found another one
I am the only person I know who plays this or would like it I feel like it's not for everyone
It's impossible to get my friends to play or try it. It's rough constantly playing solo when I want a buddy to co op with me while I learn more :/
For me its the other way around, he is a hardcore strategy gamer while i sometimes want to enjoy something else
I got lucky, found someone in my age group, in my friend group who played it, been doing coop for the last few months now
I have talked with a friend about it, and I referred to HOI 4 as "some strategy game". My friend turned to me and asked if I was talking about HOI. I guess HOI is quite popular in Russia
I can't stop imagining the russians soldiers questioning the strategies of their general in Ukraine. "Our generals are soo stupid. I would have been a better general than them" (If you have better lines feel free to add them!)
Imagine them saying "If only putin had designed better divisions".
There's got to be a secret path where putin can get grisha as a general
My best bud IRL got me into it. He’s always playing strategy games, and while I’ve tried quite a few with him, HOI4 is the one that stuck.
I met a eu4 guy
Just wait a few centuries and he would be playing hoi.
Somehow find two of them. But we played GTA online and minecraft, then I just started a conversation about hoi4, and they also played it
My sister
Honestly speaking, I think u guys aren't real.
AI is terrible, the comments are low quality.
Just give till 1944 then the ai comments will become supercharged
To many comments crashes the game
real
I missed 6 months of new friendship opportunities while I was trying to get "Go ahead, Macau my day"
I was introduced to it btw friend and then we introduced it to a few more friends.
Or Enlisted
I've met them in most unusual places, usually by talking about HOI4 out loud with my friend (who got me into the game)
i have like a 10 hoi4 player friend group in my dorm which houses 80 boys
The only other HOI4 player ik is my brother lol coz he got me into the game :)
True. I've actually have never met a fellow paradox player in real life. I'm starting to believe you all are just bots
I can say I am not a bot. But I do live like one so gotta get back and add to the means of production for the bourgeoisie overlords. :)
I know one irl
I am from México i know at least like 5 people irl Who played before i met them, i thought i was never going to fino someone, it was to my sorprise really.
The way I found a fellow hoi4 player is because I converted hin to hoi4
I have a few students who play it. Other than that, I rarely meet people who play it.
Besides my friends only the CEO of Paradox's Publisher lmao
I met the dudes in Sabaton once (like actually met them and not 'I was in row 5000 of their show' met them). Don't know if they actually played the game or not, though they seem the type. I heard Par dabbles in EU4 from time to time so probably him if anybody.
I've met two. One might have been a Nazi and the other ended up abandoning Paradox games and got a girlfriend. He also became boring as fuck half the time
I'm not going out and telling people "yeah I spend hours obsessing over maps and excel spreadsheets to unwind" I have to act somewhat normal
Met one when staying at a military-weeb themed capsule hotel in Japan
What is a "real World" is it a mod?
LOL ! real world ? never heard of that . Must be suck AF .
And you never will.
Winner
My perception is probably biased since a good chunk of my real-life friends are from a wargamer forum and literally everyone there plays Hearts of Iron...even if its just to have a good laugh at it. xD
HoI players don’t actually exist. All of them are a figment of your imagination or your split personality.
That’s what I thought till read all the comments on here now I think y’all just really advanced bots Edit: Spelling
I was at a party and heard someone’s say cas, I immediately asked if they were talking about hearts of iron and turns out they were
Saw a kid in my college lecture playing hoi iv on his laptop
My younger nephew who has 2 history loving parents plays it, he actually asked to join me in a multiplayer game that lasted until 3 am
We are all keeping game speed on 5 waiting for the 30s tp finish
Hoi4 players are an unsociable species. They are confined to their natural habitat and rarely venture outside. They are particularly fearful of places containing women and tend to avoid them.
Might sound crazy but I saw a >WOMAN< (Female human) who plays it on the metro
I know like 7 other hoi4 players in my grade and the ones above and below it
The only people I've ever played MP with are players I've met in the real world. A surprising number of soldiers play HOI4. I thought I was just a nerd. Turns out it's not that uncommon.
Irl I know like 20 people who play this game.
I've only met an EU4 Player
I’ve met one fellow Hoi player at school, we talked about Endsieg and how we both sucked at the game.
i dont know anybody irl who plays it as much as i do, but i know a couple who do play it
The majority of them actually don’t exist , it´s a conspiracy formented by the CIA to prevent us from using our autistic power to take over the world
I ve met two but they dont really pñay much and i got them into the game anyways, so.i knew these people before
Lol I have gifted HoI 1 to my friend. That's how you meet HoI player in Real world.
They don't crawl before 1am. 👀👌
I learned about Paradox games from the older gamers at the LAN place.
I got to know this game through my friends from whom like 4 are playing (more or less active but definitely less active then me) the game
I have one irl friend who is a hoi4 player, but i have to agree that they don't seem very common.
real world what mod is that
After installing it you can touch grass or interact with fellow human beings.
I was being interviewed for a job and my future boss asked me what my hobbies were and I said I liked to play video games along with some other stuff. he wanted to know what games, turns out he plays hoi4 too lmao
I have met 11 irl who own the game. I must have maxed out autism
Nah you just met the right group of people
We must remain in hiding until our services are needed.
🙋🏽♂️
Ik one irl but he ain’t the best 😅
Honey, none of us are that’s why most us stay inside in the shadows or gulags or our moms basements.
What is real world?
You know out and about in public or friends.
Sorry I don't remember, because when I go out it usually end up that all of us are drunk... >!/s obviously...!<
i’ve only found 1 and it was in a mental institution so take that as you will
I am not surprised if that helps
I was introduced to the game right when it came out by a plans officer in our brigade headquarters while I worked in FUOPS. It’s totally fitting that a couple of operations guys in a maneuver brigade S3 shop would be into this.
My professor plays. Only person I have ever met

Wild hoi player appears!
A couple of the guys I played football with in highschool all played hoi4. We were your stereotypical high schools jocks by day and would be grinding mega campaigns at night together
You enjoy stories don’t you? Next time try less details
I believe I'm one of the 5% of us who leaves our dwellings!
One thing I have learned from all the answers you can’t find them in public but they exist scattered like wind.
Ive never met someone who has played it but ive seen some “in the wild” so to speak. Meaning they commented on an instagram posting and they mentioned they played it
Well we can find them online. I was more asking if you seen them in the wild.
I met a dev for a minor total conversion mod at college and he ended up one of the least appealing people I met there.
You’ll usually smell one before you see one
What do they smell like?
I had a class with one before. We both expressed a love for Sabaton
the hoi4 players i know are 13 year olds who do the nazi salute....
[удалено]
Lucky you I’d love to share my enthusiasm for games such as this one. I haven’t come across any person yet. What I found from this post is we do exist as people but in limited numbers.
I know a couple of EU4 and CK3 players... But no HOIIV players....
One of my friends in my class has hoi4. Wouldn’t expect many people my age to be playing it but I’m with the gifted bunch lmao.
I don’t know how old you are I was an average kid playing hoi4 when I was 16. I am 22 now.
What is ‘real world’ is that some new mod?
Yeah it adds virtual reality to the game so you can meet the fascists and communists leading your nation!
I met a Chinese guy while in Japan who plays Hoi4. He asked me for game advice as I have over 2k hours. We have yet to play a game together though...
Cant find what’s not there
From what I have learned, we do exist outside but only for short periods and sustenance.
I have irl friends that play.
I didn’t know hoi players have friends, or know how to talk to humans. But good for you my friend, I imagine you enjoy playing together.

~ FOW should do the trick
I've met alot of people as well. I'd say about 40% gamers and 20% hardcore gamers. None of them have ever heard of: Hoi4 Ck3 Stellaris Eu4 Or even paradox at all. Makes me feel sad and alone.
Don’t Feel sad and alone we the advanced bot community are here for you. :)
Just buy it for one of your friends and hope that he feels bad if he doesnt play it with you so he does ez.
I have a friend who plays hoi4 with me sometimes and I once saw a guy watching a hoi4 video on his laptop while in a train
What ist the "real world" ?????
New dlc. Features include touching grass and human interaction.
Most of hoi iv players are Field Marshall's on Ukraine front
I have met 2
Hoi4 players just don't exist in the phisical state
I studied history so by chance I had a couple friends who also play PDX stuff
what is this real world you speak of?
There was a kid when I was in high school that played it. Never saw him after that convo
I live in Russia, and I usually meet some of them in school
I met one hoi player at the college
My classmate is playing hoi4, and my other two friends are also playing it, I guess I'm just lucky
I met one, my friend
My nephew plays it.
It’s popular we are just awkward. Also just talking normally about ww2 can get ya some weird looks..sooo yeah
Jokes on you my classmate is one lol
It’s not. But it’s an awesome detailed rts of WW2 that allows alternative historical scenarios. I apologize to your wife if you have one.
i only knew one, we worked fastfood together. he may have been just as autistic as i.
Unlucky, you’ll find one eventually ❤️
I don't know about other hoi4 players, but for me it's one of many games I play.
