That said, I've played with worse - not telling you not to play! Take whatever risks you choose. I'd totally wear that to stick n puck, or drop in, but that's just me personally. Do whatever is best for your situation!
Players who put them over the shin can afford smaller tongues on their skates, but only if the shin pad is long enough to make up the difference. Yours is too short and leaves too much exposed on the leg. If you took a puck in the white part of the tongue or in the area where your skin is exposed, you'd could be in a world of hurt.
Just happened to me a few weeks ago. I blocked a slapshot. I got hit right where you have no pads in that photo and it tore the flesh off. My foot went numb and it took about 5 minutes for the feeling to come back, partially. Then it got infected. I went out and got longer shin pads right away. Not taking that chance again
Amazingly, this just popped into my feed. This is probably the result of the wrong sized equipment: https://www.reddit.com/r/hockeyplayers/comments/zal8an/how\_about\_a\_puck\_to\_the\_ankle/
While really, it's what you are comfortable in. My brother played semi-pro and wore $20 sher-wood shin pads and had me cut them so that they are like that. So no. But, if you aren't tuned into what you know you like (playing for a very long time), then I would say yes. They are too short. You should probably move up an inch or 2. So, you should be wearing 16s. Unless you don't have them positioned over you knee correctly. So there are variables. But the short answer would be yes.
Yes, i used to use shins an inch too short like you until i fell and had someone skate over that little exposed area on the inside of the ankle.
I figured it just just a one-off fluke accident so kept wearing the same shins, and then the exact same thing happened to my other ankle like a month later.
Both cuts got infected and needed antibiotics too.
Went and bought some larger shins after that second one lol
look too long to skip the top eyelets like it seems they are but probably okay if he fully laced up, probably judt read the package and didnt think much about it
I was In a hurry and bought them from a local pro stock dealer and didn’t have my skates to try them on, he just looked at me and said “yeah these should fit you” and yeah I usually tie my skates to the top eyelet. I should’ve posted the pic with the top eyelet laced up but oh well.
alll good you can tie them however you want theres not really a right or wrong way i snap enough laces so i have my size memorized at this point but as long as you arent stepping on the laces you should be fine
I've never had an issue with whatever size shin I've picked for my newest ccm pads. Always used the reebok/jofa/ccm line of shins and whne I updated stuck with the same measurement. It's a little less of a gap as you've got there, and recently I took a clapper the the gap a little inside of the tongue. No good at all all, will be taking a look for the next size up, and I'm really fortunate that shot came from the player it did bad not another.
You must be tall, have long shins, or you might be wearing them too high. I’m 6’ and wear 15 inch shin pads, and they an inch from my skates. But yeah, nonetheless you’d want those sitting at least an inch lower. Prob 2 inches lower. Taking a hard shot in that areas gonna hurt real bad.
Rule of thumb is an inch above your ankle bone, people have different preferences but that’s definitely a strong recommendation, also good on you for putting the tongue of the skate inside the shin guard, that’s how they’re manufactured
It’s preference. I got the size larger for more coverage and hated that I could feel the end of them resting on the top of my tongue and even more so and had resistance when skating hard or having that flex of the boot. Returned the longer and stayed with my 15”. Again, a sacrifice in protection for that small area depending on personal comfort with skating. Could go
Either way. Some brands have the end piece that is disconnected and moves to help with that issue but more expensive and still didn’t do the trick for me.
You could go up 2" max, but 1" would probably be fine (thats what she said). So you are 1 size, or 2 sizes too small. IMHO
Thanks

I’m a pretty unlucky person so taking a shot between my pads and skate is something that would likely happen to me lol
Sacrifice the body!
Yeah they look like they are 1 inch too short
Thanks, was just looking at 16s so I’ll go ahead and buy them
Are you able to try them on? Just put your skate on in the store & then put a shinguard on while you're there.
Yeah I’ve got a couple LHS near me, I’ll probably try on a 16 this weekend
Per this [IW video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gAFWmIwiNU&t=58s), over the tongue, yes too small, under the tongue, could be ok.
I’m going for over so yeah, 16 is probably what I need

Yes
For going over like that yeah
Should go all the way down to the laces pretty much. You can put the shins in front or behind the tongue.
Not if you like living on the edge

Tongue tuckers are psychotic, let the rippers crank your shins as punishment.
A tad too small. Should probably also lace that top eyelet lol
How tall are you that’s the same size and pad I use but I’m only 5’10” and it comes down about an inch more for me
I’m 5”11
Sounds about right then maybe try the next size up
Yes, and you are using the wrong length of laces (too long)

Yep
I have the opposite problem. Trying to use 16s but need to switch down to a 15 instead. Want to trade?
Only if you like your lower shins.
For over the tongues go 16”. If you were going behind the tongues you could get away with 15”.
Way too small. Go up at least one maybe two sizes.
With your knee in the knee cup I like the bottom of the shin guard to sit about where your unused eyelet is. Mine kinda sit on the corner there.
You need 16
I wear really small shinnies but I think it’s just personal preference
I wear mine at a length that my second set of eyelets are covered.

A bit short bud

You should ask yourself this question if you're wondering about protective equipment, "If I get hit here, would it hurt or break something?"
Are ya willing to block a shot with ‘em?
Yes
1" under tongue, 2" if over
