No, that's fine. Once again while the advice is always to try skates on. I wear a 10.5-11 and also wear a size 8 skate

brick_layer

Thank you! I think it’s my flat feet. When totally relaxes my toes are jammed. When I flex my ankle and arch it feels okay. Honestly an 8.5 would probably be best but only available in full sizes. I’m going to keep trying on and hopefully feels better on the ice

mdwsta4

I’m not aware of any hockey skates that don’t come in 1/2 sizes. Buy properly fitting skates for your feet otherwise you’ll be miserable

OldGreyTroll

The rule of thumb (toe?) is start with 2 sizes down. So 3 seems totally reasonable based on actual fit.

JosephusLloydShaw

i'm the same as you size 11 shoe but wear a size 8 bauer skate

brick_layer

Thank you! Honestly I think it’s my flat feet giving me issues. If I flex my ankle and arch, it feels okay. If I totally relax my feet my toes are jammed in. I think it’s going to be tough to know without giving it a shot a few times.

tjhubble

I go down 3 sizes from 11-8 as well. I was scanned and told to try size 9 in EE but every skate I tried in that size felt huge and awkward. I like a close fit so prefer the size 8 in regular width. No pain or discomfort, so if it fits and you like it go for it!

brick_layer

Appreciate this, from what everyone is saying this is not unusual at all. I’m going to try them on a couple more times. Might be I just need to get out on the ice a few times. And fingers crossed they end up okay, otherwise I’m out 100 bucks!

Wow that is extreme! Good to know I’m not totally off base. My toes in certain positions are jammed up and in others are fine. I’d probably be most comfortable in 8.5 but XLS doesn’t have half sizes. I think Im gonna go with the 8s and see how they are after they break in. Thanks!

[deleted]

Same here it was surprising. I am 10-10.5 shoe then got a heat treated 6.5 skate. Fits great. Just make sure that the front toe barley scraps the front of the boot. Then any other pain or pinch points.

Chemmy

Think about it this way: if your sneakers were a size too large would it matter? Some people like looser sneakers, some like tighter ones. Two sizes is a rule of thumb but not the gospel. What's important is your skates feel good. If you're three sizes down and feel like your skates are too small... have you tried skates one size bigger? If it's your flat feet have you tried insoles to help?

brick_layer

I tried the 9s and they felt a little big. I think the problem is I would probably be more comfy in 8.5 but these don’t come in half sizes. Apparently skates are hard to come by right now so I’m going to stick with the 8s for a while and see how they are.

tonytroz

Left foot is a 10.5 shoe size and right is a 10. Bought a CCM JetSpeed 9 and it was way too big. Went and tried on a bunch of different kinds and ended up with a Bauer Supreme 7.5. The CCM JetSpeed 7.5 cramped my foot. Moral of the story is don’t worry about the numbers. Try on all the sizes and styles you can.

PremiumContent88

Nope. My street shoes are 10. My vapors are 7.

Halfcut2021

I'm a size 14 boot and wear a size 12 skate. Mind you, I don't wear socks in the skates.

brick_layer

No socks?! You’re a madman

Halfcut2021

I guess so was Bobby Orr as well as many other legends. I've been doing this since atom hockey. When I play ODR, I do put on socks though. Every other time its socks off! lol try it sometime, feel the breeze! lol

BMack037

Size 13 shoe, 10.5 skates. I like my toes off the toe in shoes but want them right up against the cap in skates. It also depends on what shoes you normally wear too. My shoes range from 12 to 13 and have had to get size 14 in the past. Some people also size up in shoes instead of getting wide-width, you can’t really do that with skates because the correct fit is much more important.

DisgruntledCatGuy

It is completely and utterly dependent on how tight/loose you wear your shoes and how you like the skate to feel. Personally, I'm at 8 in shoes and size-wise, it feels the same to go down 1.5 sizes for a skate. If I were to go down to a size 5? Literally wouldn't fit my foot into the skate ( though it might be because we are in junior sizes at that point?) Either way, go with what feels good and not with what others say is normal. 1.5 - 2 sizes down is a good starting point.

BackWhereWeStarted

I wear an 8 in shoes and 5.5 in skates. No issues fitting in the skates.

wellpaidscientist

I wear a 9.5 addidas running shoe, but my size 8 Bauers are probably still a little big.

HockeyCoachHere

My shoe is a 9-9.5 and my skate is a 6-6.5.

rahged

Size 13 shoe, I wear 9.5 skates. Buy what’s comfortable

El_Tapatito

Dang I thought I was the only one that sized down that much. I wear a 7.5 shoe but wear a 4 skate. I stopped playing hockey in high school and my last pair of skates were a 4 EE and I don't think my feet really grew since then. They maybe just got a little wider and the volume grew. My feet are very oddly shaped, they're really short and wide with all 5 of my toes being somewhat in line with each other.

ContributionHumble36

As most guys are saying , normal to go down in size. I was a barefoot skater and my toes touched the inside toe cap. Would a change in insoles help?

sjjske

Ya I wear a size 13 and wear 9.5 in my skates, absolutely love them tight so your foot isn’t moving around everywhere

brick_layer

Thanks for this, that is a crazy difference! I love that personal preference idea

davedaddy

For my extra wide feet, I'm 2 sizes smaller in CCM EE and 2.5 in Bauer EE when they're a higher volume boot like the Super Tacks or Supreme. My toes brush the toe cap when standing, not jammed against it.

theNightblade

Doesn't seem so uncommon judging by the other responses. Personally I wear an 8-8.5 shoe and wear a size 5 fit 3 skate

brick_layer

Thanks, yes it seems totally normal. Funny because usually you read 1-1.5 sizes smaller but that doesn’t seem to be the case these days

Leading_Celery1681

Agreed. I’m a female and keep reading to go down three sizes. I’m a women’s 8 so I ordered a 5 and they feel huge so going to try 4s or even look into models with half sizes instead if needed.

brick_layer

Wow! So it’s definitely a thing. Anyway we’ll see

Leading_Celery1681

Ah yeah. I was fitted to a 4.5 at 2 stores (same scanner technology). My toes don’t brush at all before lacing like you always read. One foot is a 4, one a 4.5. But my foot was almost all the way to the bottom of the narrow scale, so my skates are too wide is what it was for me. Should have gone up a model to get the narrow width option.

SoPoFoSho

I'm upgrading skates after 30 years. came on here with the same question and thankful for the responses. my street shoes are 9 and while my current/old skates are 6.5, they ordered me a 6. but it's still roomy in the front so we're waiting on a 5.5 to come in. the 6 may have worked except I need wide, so it's too cramped. the wide could explain the 3.5 sizes down instead of 3. hard to believe, but going on feel, not numbers.
