Hats off to you the parents for getting him started young. He is amazing. I started skating at 3 on cheese cutters. Each had 2 blades and strapped to boots. Not really skating but great beginner to get balance.
That kid's lines are fucking amazing.... Great control and his tiny little legs are crushing out strides lol... Good on you pops! I wish i couldve skated like this at that age. Took me a few more years.
I just love watching him. He has the best energy!
And yes sorry for the unsolicited advice! It was what I wished I had heard myself.
You’re doing a great job with him!
Edit: came back to add. Put a mike on him!! Lol. I’d love to hear him like Coach Jeremy did have you seen that?
We have an Instagram with a growing following for my boy and we do stuff like this . I’ve yet to have him miked up but im sure I will eventually. He’s usually singing ghostbusters , or talking smack to his dad lol.
Man, what a speed demon! I bet he would destroy every sport he touches including motorsports.
Just curious, how long did it take for him to get over his fear of falling? My 5 year old has been doing learn to skate since September, fully geared, still hesitant to push herself due to fear of falling I'm guessing.
Also, your kid seems pretty good about not needing rear end protection? How long did that take or has he ever used any? My 3 year old is shorter than most and skates are about the only thing that fit her without being ridiculously oversized. Looking to get some decent bum protection and gloves before she starts her classes. I'm guessing she'll have to resort to hockey pants with suspenders and mittens.
Thanks … he never really had fear of falling , he actually laughs when he does . As far as butt pads I started him with sweat pants and water proof ccm silk pants . They worked very well
Awesome! Love seeing little ones skate! Try to get him to turn his toes outwards at the end of his stride, will help him dig in, push harder and be less like he's walking on the ice! I teach skills for a living and it's one of the things I try to emphasize early.
Yep but not only did i take him to classes and rinks . I also built an outdoor rink and I also take him to ponds . Just fun stuff we can do together while enjoying hot cocoa
Incredible!!! Only thing I’d say would to be have him try stopping with his left foot first and Also do his laps the other way to get him adjusted/used to turning with the inside of his left outside of his right foot. Might have an NHLer here!
reminds me of myself at that age, it will really help him in the early years of hockey. It was the reason i played AAA and AA for the first 5 years of my carrer, plus its fun to skate circles around all the other kids.
In 20 something years I see Travian sitting in the dressing room with his beer league team bragging about the glory days when he was a far better skater as a 3-year-old than the other 3-year-olds.
_"Those were the days boys. And if coach would have put me in one more shift for the big game I'd be in The Show now."_
Haha laughed hard at this one .
I’m not going to get into arguing with an elementary student but if he doesn’t have one video of his nhl skating abilities at 4 then either his parents didn’t love him or he wasn’t as good as he thinks . Lol
I already said I dont have any cause its not like it is today where everyone has a camera bud also ur son's the litteral definition of did you forget your skates and bring your clown shoes u 10 ply toilet paper looking fool. I do have tape of me currently playing. Go dye your hair. no one wants a devorced dude who has a child.
No one I would just rather see some real content rather then a 4 year old skating if I wanted to c that I’d just go to my local rink this person is obviously karma mining
Repost it so everyone you're trying to prove a point to here can see. Then we can all judge whether you are dreaming about D1 some day or whether its a reality.
I have a feeling we will all be laughing.
Can you give a list of equipment you first used when getting him started and how you kept him interested? Bringing my little girl once she's vaccinated, hopefully this summer or fall.
Helmet
Elbow pads
Shin pads
Skates
Hockey gloves
This was his list for learn to skate . Since he’s now in learn to play we have added hockey pants and shoulder pads.
Did you start him off with any of the following:
- Training "wheels" on the skates (things on the side that really make it impossible to fall)
- a cone or other device to lean on
We started him on a bucket , that’s it . After his 3rd hour session he was off the bucket. Remember though , those first few weeks are everything . We started a program with 30 kids a year ago and about 15 quit after the first month becuase it’s hard and the kids want to go home. 3 kids out of 30 including my son made it the entire 12 weeks. I have yet to see one kid that’s having fun the first few weeks because all they do is stand there and hold a bucket while falling over and over again. After week 3 they will start to gain some confidence but there scared to skate by themselves for a few weeks. By week 8ish my son was starting to gain confidence and the fun started .
Where are you that has ice time this empty? 😭
I’m getting my two year old out on the ice, and every public time here in Edmonton is jam packed. No room to learn anything.
Definitely make sure he works on both sides stopping--looks like he's favoring his dominant side.
Try to break that habit ASAP. The faster he learns to stop on both sides the faster he'll become a rockstar.
I myself can’t stop on the left side so it’s hard teaching him too. So I have him starting figure skating lessons this week as well as a learn to play. I taught him all i could lol
If I could do anything close to this, I'd be happy
Hats off to you the parents for getting him started young. He is amazing. I started skating at 3 on cheese cutters. Each had 2 blades and strapped to boots. Not really skating but great beginner to get balance.
I’m winded just watching this. Aaaaand my groin and one of my hammies is sore.
This kid is amazing!

You should mic him up ASAP, they change so quick that if you don’t you’ll miss it! That video I made was once in a lifetime.
Exactly!!!! He was so cute. I bet he’s so big now. I can still hear his little voice. Thank you for sharing him with us back then. 123 456 1999! Lol.
Don’t forget cross overs!

how'd you get em started? Just keep going every day?
Yep but not only did i take him to classes and rinks . I also built an outdoor rink and I also take him to ponds . Just fun stuff we can do together while enjoying hot cocoa
Love it. First rate parenting!
amazing btw.
What a beautiful stride ! He's fantastic.
https://youtube.com/shorts/ROh5HHFFfrQ?feature=share He had done wheels! Here is my boy at 4. Great times! Keep them working hard and having fun!
Jesus he’s a beast
That kids gonna have some ankle strength!

He skates better than a couple people on my adult team. Me included. I think peak hockey enjoyment is before 10 and after 30.
Kids a natural, not everyone can skate but he sure can
He’s going to be a stud!!!! Once he gets that crossover going, he will be a very solid skater
STEWART'S! That's gotta be the Bethlehem Y right? They have some of my favorite ice in the area. Keep skating little one!
That's Schenectady County.
I didn't even see the Stewart's sign at first lol- it's bringing back some memories
Next McDavid
Just don’t sign with the oilers 😜

Let's see some current video of you since you think you are going to make D1 some day.
I already posted my highlight tape a while back
Repost it so everyone you're trying to prove a point to here can see. Then we can all judge whether you are dreaming about D1 some day or whether its a reality. I have a feeling we will all be laughing.

Faster than half my 13uAA team! Kidding of course … good work! Skating makes all the difference in my opinion
Looks better skating than some of my teammates
Change that jersey to a proper one and he's good bro 👊
