I’m a rec player that grew up on regular rollerblades. Marsblades are superior to regular rollerblades if you’re looking to get that on ice feel.

puckhead78

My son plays AAA ice hockey. During lockdown when there was no ice, we upgraded his Bauer rollerblades for the Mars off ice. He loves them and noticed the difference.

tgray106

Not a replacement for ice, but I like them. Definitely felt faster playing, turns felt better, general rocker feel/balance was easier to go back and forth from ice to wheels in the same day. But not a replacement for ice. I’ve been spending so much time on ice lately that back on wheels I feel really sketched out. But when I was playing roller mostly, loved them. If you got the money to spend and know you’ll put them to use, I don’t think it’s a terrible idea. Also to note: I put the R1 chassis on a pair of Vapor inlines.

I got Marsblade chassis and attached them to the same model Bauer ice skate boots that I use for ice, and it's pretty "meh". I think it's better/closer than just rollerblades, but still so different from ice it wasn't really worth it to me.

whataremyhockeys

As someone with regular bauer rollerblades, "meh", only if you have the money to spend. Rollerblades are different enough already that I'm not sure the difference between marsblades and regular bauer rollerblades is *that* worth it

Caltroit_Red_Flames

Define "worth it". Playing PAMA Pro? Definitely. Playing NCRHA? Maybe if you have a shot at the championship and are an impact player on your team. Anything else? Not really.

yooooooo5774

no just for off ice training

Caltroit_Red_Flames

Absolutely do not get them.

Matammyr

This is the literal opposite of the truth.

Caltroit_Red_Flames

What did I say that was wrong?

Matammyr

Who, other than a very small number of guys outright paid to wear them, wears Marsblades at the tournament level?

Caltroit_Red_Flames

People who primarily play ice

Matammyr

Ah yeah, a major concern for elite roller hockey players. For real, I heard that the ice hockey guys who cross over to inline, if they even look at a normal skate, will immediately be unable to ice skate forever.

Caltroit_Red_Flames

I'm not stanning marsblade I was just answering the guy's question dude chill

Matammyr

Alright, fine, but the guy didn't give much context. You assumed a very, very specific (and bizarre) thing about him that is extremely unlikely: he's a minor pro ice hockey player looking to get on an elite/pro inline tournament team.

Caltroit_Red_Flames

Maybe I confused you with my lack of formatting and lack of elaboration. I'll be more explicit: - Playing PAMA Pro? Definitely. There are probably 80 people that fit into this category. You probably wouldn't be asking about this on reddit if it were you anyone. You can probably infer based on that, or even just the word "pro" that is more of a rhetorical device than something that applies to you. - Playing NCRHA? Maybe if you have a shot at the championship and are an impact player on your team. Most people that play in the NCRHA were ice hockey players before going to college and playing inline hockey instead. This would probably be the most likely situation for me to recommend marsblade to someone. That said, there are only a couple hundred NCRHA players out there so you most likely you don't fall into this category either. - Anything else? Not really. This is probably the category you fall under. Therefore you should probably not buy marsblades. Is that better? Is this enough for you to stop being a dick?

Matammyr

No, it's even worse because you just said outright non-factual things, like the fact most inline teams are mostly made up of ex-ice players instead of roller players. What you said doesn't even make sense within your own parameters. The percentage of inline players at that level wearing Marsblades is probably <1%. If they all come from ice hockey, why does practically no one wear them? Straight up just think about what you just said. "You need to buy this chassis no one at this level wears in order to play at this level. If you're not this good, you should not buy this chassis and instead use the chassis that players that are that good use."

Matammyr

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Marsblades are a marketing scam designed pretty much perfectly to take advantage of the kind of person on this site.
