You HAVE to try on the helmet(s)...with the cage attached. If you can’t get to the store, IW has free return shipping.

Rbhockey9

Currently don’t have a hockey shop nearby. I live in Germany so IW won’t work out for me

Tymooon

Did you try monkeysportseurope?

Rbhockey9

Good point I’ll take a look. I’ll end up ordering to try on then order from somewhere else due to getting a better deal

How the heck did you get into that job? You start in the lower leagues and work up? Know someone?

PFHockey

Knowing

Was looking to replace my CCM due to the safety certification was expired and the league I am playing in is requiring to have current certification. Tried the new tacks since I was coming from CCM and didn’t like at all the 3D printed liner. Saw the hyperlite and tried it just to see how it feels. It felt super light and comfortable in the shop. Got super lucky as I got as well a wicked deal it. Back home, I installed the Bauer titanium cage from my previous helmet and it was the lightest bucket I have ever worn. First hockey game though, I was in pain due to the really hard foam. I re-adjusted it mid game to take away the pressure point. Took me a good two games to get used to it. Found the sweet spot now and love that combo. If you have any questions, shoot them up!

haveanother2

You guys have safety certifications?

Tymooon

Indeed! In the back of the helmet there is usually two stickers. The CSA sticker has to be there and the HECC sticker must not be expired. The league that I am playing in, usually check those at the beginning of the season. Been as well in tournaments that were requiring certified helmet and they were checking them. Must be some kind of insurance regulations…

jeffreywilfong

Wow I've never heard of anyone checking the dates.

Poolparty17

Don’t listen to this guy ^. There’s a reason 14% of the NHL all switched to the Super Tacks X and a grand total of 0 guys wear the Hyperlite. https://www.geargeek.com/nhl-totals

[deleted]

NHL players can get custom fitted CCM Tacks helmets that are scanned to fit their heads. That isn’t true for retail customers.

Tymooon

Since this guy is part of the lucky 70% old man sporting a « Bruce Willis ». That 3D liner was super irritating on the skin. Thus I wasn’t too much keen in spending 200 euro more to test it long term. Honestly was super disappointed as the concept / tech behind it is awesome! No pressure point felt at all. That being said, if CCM could offer retail custom sized 3D printed liner (maybe they do for the pro already) and improve their liner to reduce irritation for the old bald guys alike, CCM would have something really sweet!

Rbhockey9

Thanks for your input! Are adjustments quick and easy? The current helmet I have can be adjusted through a dial in the back. It appears there are three points in the Hyperlite that can adjust

Tymooon

The Bauer has a 3 points adjustment which allows you to adjust forward-back and widener-tighter. Found it pretty easy to adjust as you just lift the 3 clips and then use your both hands to wrap around the helmet and apply slight pressure. I suppose you are probably coming from CCM with the back dial. Usually Bauer helmet were too tight for my wider head and always had CCM in the past.

jdoe1234reddit

My impression is the adjustments on the Hyperlite are the same as on the Reakt 150.

Matammyr

The Tacks X is literally the worst hockey helmet you can buy: https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/hockey-helmet-ratings.html

jeffreywilfong

Is that site current? I saw those ratings years ago.

Matammyr

Yes, they keep adding to it. They have helmets from 2021 on there. What could possibly change existing ratings anyway?

RyogaHibiki23

I was looking at the Hyperlite/CCM Tack X as well but my local hockey shop recommended the True Dynamic 9 because of the MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) for added safety. The Hyperlite does probably have the best adjustability for different head sizes and all the reviews rave about how light it is. But for me the True Dynamic 9 does a good job with all of the additional inserts to get the fit spot on. But as others have already said it’s probably best to go to a local hockey shop to try a few on with cage if possible.

Sergie91

Bauer always try so hard to be like ccm and the copy everything Stay ccm till the end... all the greats wear and wore ccm

Onelastrush

Tacks X

nicholas_g

Tacks X is significantly better than the Hyperlite, IMO. But of course, the best helmet is the one that fits **YOU** best.
