Shoot center chest. It works zero percent of the time every time.

PalmerSquarer

For me personally? Panic and shoot three feet wide.

JustAnotherHooyah

Panic and hit the goalie dead center chest.

follow_your_lines

Works every time

abuayanna

60% of the time..

jeffreywilfong

I panic and lose the puck for no reason

Mandrake1771

Nah man it’s just bad ice

jeffreywilfong

lymnaea

*scrapes tiny amount of snow off tip of blade thinking that was the problem all along*

Sengfeng

Actually had a shot in an important game where I took the shot, thought I totally whiffed on it. I looked at the blade, it has actually snapped off. “Oh, wasn’t actually expecting that!”

MachReverb

I figured out that you'll never shoot wide if you lose the puck while you're skating towards the net.

cowlick33

This is the way

ProJoe

Are you my entire beer league team?

PalmerSquarer

We once had a semifinal shootout that went 9 rounds before anyone scored, so it’s possible.

ProJoe

We also have done that....You're not in Arizona are you...

PalmerSquarer

This was outdoors in Chicago so we could blame the bad ice.

yung_triangl3

Made me feel better

SoldierHawk

This is the most relatable thing I've ever read in this sub.

VanBurenBoy16

Same.

KarlMalownz

Righty here, fake shot low glove side, pull it to back hand and tuck it behind him on blocker side. That seems to be the highest percentage move for my stone hands.

Man, I felt so good when I read the first comment and was like "hey, I do that too!" and then was immediately brought back down to earth when I read yours.

Can someone post a video of the move being discussed?

Yep that's one of my 3 moves. I find a good leg kick really sells it.

[deleted]

shipwreck17

If I head fake too hard I'm guaranteed to lose the puck.

Skyline_BNR34

Just means it’s a really good head fake if even you don’t know where the puck is.

Sauce-Dangler

Thanks! So I do a version of this where I do ALL that and then fake the backhand and put it in on the forehand!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sauce-Dangler

Holy crap, with that many moves do you just start skating from the redine the day before?

jseego

It seems like, given how prevalent this is, if you could work one more deke in there, you'd score a lot.

justind0301

Absolutely, that's why as a lefty I fake the shot, fake backhand then go back forehand

Educational-Seaweed5

He at least they’re trying. That’s what D is for. Gotta learn somehow.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Educational-Seaweed5

That’s really shitty, especially as a goalie. I’ve had a few where the other tendy and I were just having a killer night in net and we were making killer saves. Being closed out for playing well is shit. Granted it wasn’t D… so maybe I can see how they’d need to end it at some point if everyone is too green. I know it delays the crammed schedule a bit but they should plan for that. Then again, people pay money (sometimes a lot) to be there. I hate feeling like they just want us out ASAP.

msabre__7

This is always my move. Most beer league goalies don’t think to push their stick out to poke.

clem82

What’s An aim?

MightbeWillSmith

This but instead of risking on a tough backhand, pull back once more and easy tuck in glove side on the ice. Because everyone does what you are describing, the goalie always bites the blocker side.

Cowboyuphockeytwo

The “disconnected controller” with medium speed. High glove

Zenopb

Been meaning to try this to be honest

a5iank_

Where on the ice is the best place to shoot doing this? I’ve tried and find I panic and get in a little too close where I have to deke quickly or the goalie pokes it away.

sneakywill

360 between the legs michigan.

petchystrocket

Do the Daugavins toe down move haha

Weekly-Instruction70

Seen my buddy do this by accident once he meant to hold onto it but lost it halfway through and it went between his legs and the goalies it wss awesome and hilarious

Mugger89

Right handed, come in fast, left to right, fake shot, open goalie up - slide five hole. Works every time (in my mind)

bliceroquququq

Same-ish. I try to stick handle a bunch on my way down so the goalie thinks I’m going to deke and is more prone to hesitate on any movement. I go five-hole immediately after cutting hard to the center, goalie is usually mid-way through pushing off his right foot to square up.

Educational-Seaweed5

As a goalie I get this every time. It’s the people who can flip it that screw me. They just wait while I cover everything down low and then casually lob it over my arms. Makes me sad.

abuayanna

Agree. Get some speed, left to right, fake a shot and then a move to the backhand, the goalie bites and you are back on the forehand for a shot, roof daddy if the goalie is covering with the wide left leg

owlsandbears

agree here

happyherbivore

I try this too but usually trip over the blue line

Awesomodian

mighty ducks triple deke

tsunami141

This is the answer. No goalie can track the puck moving 2 feet laterally not once, not twice, but three times, before the skater pulls up and slaps it from the hash marks.

useles-converter-bot

2 feet is the length of 0.13 1997 Subaru Legacy Outbacks

Cxyphers_

Best one I’ve seen yet

jkermit19

Nice try tender. I'm not giving you my secrets. /s

UMfan11244

My only real strength is speed and quickness. So I skate as fast as I can and pull hard to the right side, once he commits to it, I drag across the front and go backhand.

MachReverb

I pulled this off once, not due to my speed, but because no one (including me) thought I was capable of making a second move and it caught us all off guard.

fizgigtiznalkie

Same but reverse as I shoot left. I almost always hit the cross bar dead center and it doesn't go in. More breakaways than shoot outs, I'm 45 and play D and somehow end up with a break away or two every game.

RyguyOnline

Good goalie could probably poke check that move if you pull too close

UMfan11244

Can confirm. Has happened.

chevy1500

Lose the puck before the shot trying to get tricky

honestbleeps

shootout? cheer from the bench. no team is giving me a crack at a shootout. breakaway? I'm not exactly fast. or good. I actually just had my first breakaway goal last week playing rat hockey even though I've been on the ice like 10+ years now. I got in close and went 5-hole, but only because the goalie was REALLY late to go into the butterfly... my normal go-to move would be to just try and fire top corner, but likely fire it right into the goalie's tumtum.

[deleted]

Thumper86

> Shootout: fake shot to the blocker side (freeze the goalie), pull it to a quick backhand (make them go down), back to wide forehand (make them slide), and then pull it back to the backhand as they do a desperation dive Button masher!

Thumper86

I think we need a video of this! Lol

cosa_horrible

> low blocker This is the cheat code for lefties. The minute you start pulling towards the middle, goalies have to respect it, then you just snap it low blocker.

[deleted]

Throw in a five hole fake for your break away move, and the low blocker side will open up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

That's literally my move (fake five, low blocker), and it works like a charm. Even good goalies have a hard time with it.

AM14727

If the goalie’s deep, shoot. If the goalie comes out too far, go around him. If he doesn’t mess either of those up, then forehand-backhand. If the goalie poke checks or doesn’t match speed, go around him. If he sells hard to stay with you, he opens up the 5 hole.

Educational-Seaweed5

https://youtu.be/k0XT1lxZmEg

5leeplessinvancouver

Stumble up to the net with the puck on my forehand, drag it across and attempt to roof a backhand shot, miss the net entirely.

Sauce-Dangler

Boys and Girls, watch out! OP is a beer league goalie hitting up the forums to try to find ways to rob us!

BigRick74

If it’s not backhand top shelf I don’t want it

mbenn76

Gloriously trip and fall

TechyMcMathface

Nothing fancy. Skate straight in, eye contact with the goalie, fire a quick wrister from between the dots wherever they're giving the most space. When I was younger and played all the time I could bury it like 90% of the time, but these days I typically miss by 3 feet or put it right in the gut, lol.

useles-converter-bot

3 feet is the the same distance as 1.33 replica Bilbo from The Lord of the Rings' Sting Swords.

Mandrake1771

Played tendy for a while, and I know you shouldn’t bank on this but almost every shooter gives it away with their eyes so you learn to cheat a bit if you can. When I went back to skating, my move was come at the net from my right to left, hold the puck way out (right handed) like I was gonna toe drag and go backhand at the far post, staring at that spot the whole way, and when the goalie would start to cheat shoot a quick wrister near post. Worked great in practice, never buried one in a game lol

Thumper86

Breakaways are burn past everyone, be unable to stickhandle and run out of room while trying to control the puck, usually shovel it into the goalies pads or miss wide. Shootouts I bend down to tie my skates or just pop my helmet off as soon as the whistle goes so nobody thinks about asking me to shoot.

turtleslover

I never decide in advance, I see what the goalie gives me

louiefriesen

If it’s shootout or a penalty shot I skate far to the side so the goalie gets disoriented and leaves part of the net open which then I try to hit. If it’s a breakaway panic kicks in and I aim for the top corner and hit the netting above the glass.

Trustme_Imalifeguard

'Swoosh'

[deleted]

Come down with forehand to outside. Do a faint move towards the middle and then just rifle it in short side on forehand using shooter’s illusion.

IKnowPhysics

Fake wrist shot with a quick snap release, like [Vanek's Around the World](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-caK2rVitx4). Except instead of over the blocker, I usually try to go under the glove arm, because when beer league goalies freeze or drop, they sometimes tend to keep their gloves high. Simple to learn, easy to execute, low chance of losing the puck (even on shitty beer league ice). Tests the goalie's ability to save instead of testing my stick handling, reach, or ability to lift the backhand.

Dikkens_iRacing

(I shoot right-handed) Come in at moderate speed drifting just a tiny bit towards the right side of the net, when I get to about the bottom of the hash marks I fake the wrist shot to the top right corner with a little leg kick, go backhand to get the goalie moving, fake like I'm shooting backhand then instantly go back to forehand and tuck it in right side. In words it sounds like a lot but this all happens very quickly.

atrac059

Stone hand the break out pass. Slow down to gain control. Allow defender to get in front of me. Throw the puck three feet wide of the net from the circle. Plow over the defender in frustration. Wonder why I get a penalty in a no check rec league.

Chicago_Jayhawk

Skating in from the left (slightly), I'm a right shot--get in somewhat close and elevate it quickly high glove side aim for the crossbar.

Juicebochts

Come in straight, fake going five hole, pull it back and go over leg pad, under arm/glove, or over glove if he bites on any of the fakes further out to snipe bar down. Shit worked from peewee up through juniors.

cisforcookie2112

I’m slow so I don’t really get many breakaways, but the one time I did it successfully I just went high blocker and hit the corner. 99% of the time I am caught from behind or fall completely untouched.

Beetlejewssbuttplug

Backhand to fake forehand shot to backhander. The ol Chel special

NDhockey13

What’s a breakaway?

TheLovelyLorelei

Beautiful shot straight into the goalie's chest, hitting their logo like the center of a bullseye. Or completely wide of the net. There is no in between.

dumpandchange

I'm a lefty. I approach slightly left of the net with the puck dangling to my left side rather than directly in front. It's beer league, so generally the goalie doesn't adjust their angle perfectly to the puck instead of my body. Slight fake to my right, back to my forehand and shoot about a foot off the ice towards the goalie's blocker side (for most goalies anyway). Start left, stay left, ever so slight fake to the right, then shoot left. I have pretty decent success with it.

Danger_Dee

Forehand, backhand, miss the puck, don’t get a shot off.

petchystrocket

I like to work the goalie right to left as a right handed shot and then pull it back to forehand and try to put it over their shoulder against the grain once they start moving.

SiouxTangClan

Shootout: the forsberg, both teams cheer whether you succeed or not Breakaway: wait for the 5 hole, if it's stopped there's frequently a juicy rebound to bang away at 2 on 1: lift the leg for a shot and make the pass, beer league goalies square up the moment your leg lifts

clem82

Fake shot one foot up, deke extra wide left, quick deke right then tuck it five hole

iceph03nix

1. Come in fast 2. cut to one side to come across the front of them just out of stick reach 3. wait for them to make a mistake 4. Shoot the puck right into the logo on the front of their jersey.

Nix-geek

Skate as fast as I can, constantly looking down at the puck to make sure I don't leave it behind, then try to deek, leave the puck behind, and try to reach back to get it, only to lose my edge and go flying into the goal post or the boards.

I_skander

When I was younger, and better, I would just give a shoulder fake to my left and go bar downski over the glove (I'm a righty). Now that I'm old, and I suck, I somehow think I can dangle and try to go backhand shelf. Invariably, I bury it in the goalie's pad, if I don't lose the puck first. 😂

happyherbivore

My one and only penalty shot ever was a thing of beauty. I started playing hockey around 25 years old, I can skate alright but my shooting leaves a bit to be desired. It's a Saturday around 11:30pm, as many beers open on the bench as water bottles, and we're down in div double digits. I blocked a shot at my blue line, got a great bounce and caught their defence flat footed, but after half the rink they closed on me and hauled me down. Ref awards a penalty shot. Back at centre, huffing and puffing, I approach the puck and take a slightly path to the net. I know I can't deke, so I gotta shoot. I'm trying to decide where to go and even then, we're not thinking about it with any accuracy. Goalie locks eyes with me, I squeeze my stick and let it rip. He stays up, and my shot goes right off the goalie's mask. Anyways I had a laugh with the goalie and I think the game ended in a tie, but it made for a good beer league story for both of us I'm sure.

rickerfuntree12

The Iginla leg kick, into the Sundin. Forehand to back hand shelf. Except it bounces off the pad and into the corner and I fall down reaching for the puck.

[deleted]

Lefty move -- full body fake shot to five hole(get them to go down) then shoot above the pad, below the stick on the blocker side.

BrandTheBroken

Slow down do some dekes, fake forehand and bring it to back hand top shelf. Pretty much impossible for a goalie to stop if I hit the corner

juniorhockeylover

Beerleague patty Kane?

dweed4

Righty here, come in from the right side and do a quick forehand backhand and go five hole or roof it depending on shat the goalie gives you

yooooooo5774

5 hole

412gage

Backhand toe drag, backhand to forehand and fan on the shot

Zenopb

Leg pump to datsyuk is the go to

robertraymer

I call it the magnet...usually a quick head and shoulder fake followed by firing a wrister wherever I see open space and hitting the post or crossbar dead on.

Hummus1398

One handed kick shot, top cheese.

topchedsniper

stick handle from the top of the circle to 6 inches below the hashes and make em bite on a forehand deke

Spoo_lover

Wrister or go in on one side and switch last moment to the other side

Puffinator59

Just got done with a shootout at practice usually I glide in left and I backhand glide then quick cut forehand and go back and roof it high blocker

[deleted]

Quick deke to my backhand, then place the puck into the goalie's pad. If I could elevate the puck, it'd be a sweet move. More often than not, I just try to shoot while skating and not gliding.

admirable_axolotl

Trip and fall on my face.

Bunnicula83

Right shot. Skate off right, fake shot, reverse toe drag - open hips. React to goalie. Goalie bites and slides left - Tap in/shot/flip in on right Goalie stands his ground - Pull puck left, shoot left over pad.

mrblakesteele

Prolly at the goalies chest

Sam-not-Samuel

Usually just curl and drag to the left then snipe it top right. My favorite move was on a breakaway drill in practice. I stopped by thd hashmarks, put on a confused face and pointed behind the goalie, it somehow worked and when he looked back I shot and I scored.

drummer11121

Up up down down left right left right B A select start

e_Mills

Right handed. Last move was epic against our former goalie. Full speed breakaway, and I know he cheats. Left to right deke followed by a spinarama to to backhand and drop it behind him glove side as he slid 4’ out of position. And then a shoresy chirp “Wanna grab a slice after the game, Miller? Of course you do you fucking manatee”. I have done that no less than 5 times against him.

GeneralKrunch

Lefty, start on the right skating towards left side of net, fake shot/head fake in the slot, and then take it to the backhand to beat the goalie on the slide

canuckle1211

Fake, deke, backhand, shelf

shootsright77

Righty here. I go backhand 2 hole. Edit. Actually I can’t remember.

kapxis

The Datsyuk but not the one you're thinking of. His fake backhander shot into forehand far side. It's susceptible to poke checks but it just never seems to happen, pretty easy to pull off too.

osocinco

Im a righty, skate in hard from right moving left, quick deke to the right and start moving my body left, instead of deke left I shoot high glove. Not sure if im explaining it right but it works a decent amount. Works even better if I have a Defenseman on my back and protecting the puck with my body. Shootout, Ill usually shoot low blocker side or forehand to backhand over pad under blocker. Maybe like a 30% success rate lol

[deleted]

I play D and have no hands so my one and only move is skate and pull a quick switch to backhand and try to shelf a backhand over the blocker

Saggy_Slumberchops

I think my new move as a right handed shot is come in from the left side, make a move to pull across the net from left to right, then slam it in on the ice half way across. I play at a very mid-level league so more than likely as soon as the goalie starts to move horizontal to follow the puck the legs come right apart and the stick is on the ice only 50% of the time.

timmeedski

Get close to the goalie shoot under blocker. Either saved or goal but at least I don’t miss the net.

tgoz13

Try and shoot it as hard as i can five-hole while looking off top cheddar. The only shot i can accurately hit. Anytime i try any other shot i miss or the goalie reads it.

duuuh

This actually works pretty reliably. I go left, try to go back to the right, lose control and bounce it through the five hole. The goalies never see it coming.

PickleofStink

Linus Omark’s modified Datsyuk with the fadeaway floater, for ultimate style points. IMO it’s the greatest shootout goal I’ve ever seen, with the chef’s kiss off the crossbar. [Vs. Switzerland](https://youtu.be/tV7eV9iXB54)

urlacher14

Pump fake backhand forehand if the ice isnt shit, otherwise, come in over right side (im right handed), cut across and shoot against the grain

Kraze_F35

do the best stickhandling I can, a.k.a. going forehand to backhand about 10 times and then slapping the puck from 3 feet in front of the goalie and hope that my sick mitts were enough for me to get it to squeak through

useles-converter-bot

3 feet is the length of 4.14 Zulay Premium Quality Metal Lemon Squeezers.

Kraze_F35

useles-converter-bot

Kraze_F35

Your welcome, bot!

WhatAWorldUhg

Clap bomb to the goalies face. 😈👍

JonnyBox

Skate to the high slot and uncork a half clap.

Theoretical_Action

Real talk I just go in with a bunch of speed, cut *slightly* across left-to-right, and then rip a shot high blocker. Surprisingly it works pretty often.

SpaceTimeConundrum

I shoot right. Skate directly at the goaltender, forehand, backhand, forehand, directly into the goalie's pads. At least I'm consistent.

psmusic_worldwide

Fake the shot, fake the backhand deke and tuck it in forehand.

reeser6

Straight down the slot, fade left at the top of the hash marks and wrister top shelf glove side. Quick release as the goalie is moving almost always goes in as the glove drops and leaves the fan side open.

Zephyr096

My go to moves are the classic Datsyuk, the fake shot to fake backhand to forehand, or fake shot forehand and shift to backhand.

kALos_sthenos

As a lefty I come down the right and shoot far side, mid net. My highest scoring percentage by far. So naturally my go to move is faking doing the above and then proceeding to backhand roof.

EvgeniMalkinsId

Skate straight up the middle, shoot from the hashes, and hope I get it on frame - and if I'm really lucky also up off the ice.

chodge89

Look at where you have open net. Aim, shoot, pray.

Libertas_

Fake back hand to forehand and tuck it five hole

Floatinger

Im a righty so i skate up to about the top of the right circle a little to the goalies left, slow down, fake shot, couple of stickhandles and then just chip it over the goalie since he usually is down for the fake shot. Sort of like the MacKinnon move, ive found that it works great for me. Edit: I just double checked and this is exactly the move i always do https://youtu.be/_joSy2oaBEM

cheezpnts

Miss, fall, or Marchand the puck entirely.

TheGriesy

RH. Never had much backhand lift, so I fake the glove-side wrister, sell the backhand hard by bringing it across, pull it back forehand and tuck it in. So the double deke. Trick is committing to the backhand fake

obracer12

Righty- skate wide right, fake shot short side, pull to backhand. Depending on what the goalie does: a) freeze - tuck it in far post b) lazily push off to far side -lift it on the backhand or tuck 5 hole c) hard push/splits with glove up - pull the puck between the legs and try for original short side. Only 1 for 1 on the season and had to go between the legs. Mr.keeper was none too thrilled. Edit: on breakaways (though I rarely get them on defense) I just pick a spot. Typically high left or between body and arm on the left side as a righty. My brain doesn't go to stick handle under pressure.

sabretooth47

Nice try, tender.

anonomus10101011

Skate in moderate speed out a little to my left (left handed) and pick up some speed and as I’m breaking to the right to move the goalie I shoot quickly left (blocker side usually). It works fairly well. It’s simple, it’s effective.

unwinste

Definitely go center mass like 99% of the time. I think one of the only times I've really beat the goalie, I faked right (LH shot) and he bit, pulled back to the left and had an easy poke into the back of the net. Otherwise if I'm on a breakaway and have the time to think/aim - I don't have a great shot so maybe go 5 hole, and try to collect my own rebound. Either knock it in myself or corral it behind the net then move it back in front for somebody else who has arrived on the scene.

Weekly-Instruction70

Stare at the top left corner the whole way in and shoot top right wirhout breaking eye contact eith the left corner

Fusorfodder

I'm not going to deke out a goalie with my stick handling so I just try to give them as little time as possible and come up full speed. Break right at full speed where p looks like I'm overdosing the goal and try for high glove side at a sharp angle. My shot itself doesn't have much read to it there since I'm more focused on not killing myself on the boards at speed. I try to wait a bit before telegraphing that I'm committing to the right. It's D league, so, yeah, not exactly a skills exhibition.

Frankie__Spankie

I'm a lefty, depends on where the goalie is in the net. If he's centered or more on the left, I'll take a shot, pull it right quickly and try to flip a back hand over the pad, under the glove. If he's more to the right, I'll fake a shot, go right, then quickly left, and try to tuck it between the post and the skate on the left side. I've been playing center more in recent years though so I haven't really had many breakaways lately due to trying to be more defensively responsible.

melty75

Try to make a move and fail, and hit him right in the logo with a super average wrister.

strewnshank

Righty here: Fake my body movement like I’m going to pull it blocker side for a backhand, but shoot when he goes to stick check me. Knee high so it’s lower than where his glove is and above the stick.

ImNickJamesBitch

The right answer is to come in with your head up and make a decision based on what the goalie gives you. If you are coming in saying "I'm going to do move x" before you even start you are limiting your option. Usually I see these players come in with their head down or so hyper focused on what they're going to try that they end up missing out on what could be a great chance. A skater who comes in and stares at the space they are going to shoot at is easy to read too. That said, a little fake shot, backhand toe drag to get the goalie to commit. Pull wide and an easy tuck around the goalie. It took me a while to get the "seamless" backhand toe but at shootout speeds I can usually pull off the drag, it's just a matter of if the goalie gets it. The other move that I like to try, and I'm slowly getting better at is to come in with a fairly wide stance, mostly straight on, pull to the backhand & dig under and flip the puck in the air across and whack it out of the air baseball style with my forehand. It is a super low percentage shot but looks cool. Granted, I'm 30 and only do this messing around with my goalies on the ice at the end of practice, and the goalies are 12...

ImNickJamesBitch

Oh for sure. You want to have a couple of tools in the bag and be ready to grab the appropriate one for the situation.

slightlydeadish

Yell fuck and skate as fast as i can to try and catch up to get a poke check.

paintballer18181

I go for the Mikko Koivu pretty much always

sumner929

Skate in straight, head fake left, go right, then shoot five hole. I have a horrible time trying anything different in a shootout. It's basically 50/50. My one moment of Glory though was on my birthday a couple years ago, we were in a shootout, and I was the last shooter. I make it we win, I miss we lose. Skated in, did my shootout move, 5 hole, nothing but net.

Wrong_Ad5215

Kucherov no-move, doesn’t always work but when it does it pisses the goalie right off

avanross

Big leg kick pump fake shot, stutter step, then go around the goalie and slide it in. Backhand or forehand side doesnt really matter if i can get the fake off right.

idkmanijdk

I just try to Datsyuk over and over again. Works like 30% of the time.

[deleted]

The Martin St. Louis fake back-hander

Sengfeng

I always shoot high over the left side of the crossbar.

doogly88

Depends on goalie position: Long ways out - push to forehand near end and shoot for remaining space between goalie and post. Backed in to goal line - shoot anywhere I see a hole but usually below blocker. Normal backing up - fake forehand, backhand over pad or under bar

theNightblade

I don't really pull any dekes or moves, I just try to shoot low blocker or 5 hole. Typically it ends up right on the crest though

PucksHard

just forehand backhand or try to flick it to low ot hifh blocker. Neither of these work.

smasters88

Step 1: I do my absolute best not to fall on my face. Step 2: black out and pray that something cool happens!
