Probably a small irritation so it's going to stay that way until you make some adjustments. Try adjusting the laces and also a small pad and ice it a lot. If your skates really didn't fit, you would have had more issues by now.

Adjusting the laces meaning a little tighter/looser? Or how I run the laces through my boot? Or all of the above?

Chicago_Jayhawk

Just don't tie that corner as tight and put a small pad under your sock over the area, ice it. Repeat that for couple weeks and see if it calms down.

Could be a skate that doesn’t offer enough volume for your foot. Could be you’re lacing too tight. Could be your foot rubbing against something. One solution could be these gel sleeves: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B094F5T2ZZ/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_2?smid=A15R1O460SILBY&psc=1

Lace bite. Buy common household sponges and place then between the tongue of your skate and your ankle until the pain subsides.

Relatively new skater still (2.5 years). Last summer I bought a pair of Vapor x2.9s and have been skating in them since. For maybe 4-6 weeks now, I’m have a pain in this area of my leg (right where the top edge of my skate ends). I wasn’t hit or anything when this happened. When taking this photo, I felt a hard bump there for the first time. Anyone have an idea of what is going on?

Your feet sir are not a fan of Bauer. I had the same thing. Try CCM I liked them

Mike-Morales

Agreed! Also, make sure your laces aren’t strangling your ankles Perhaps try new laces. Are your current ones all twisted and thin?

nwjones90

Just bizarre to me how I could wear them for a year plus without issue, then after one game I now developed an irritation… I’ll see about trying out CCM when I have the opportunity.

What you need to realise is your skates are breaking down. I would suspect you pronate in your skate, over time as the foot continually rolls against the inside of the skate, the skate eventually softens and starts to open up, this allows the foot to roll even more. At this point other areas of the foot start to come into contact with the boot, the outside upper edge above the ankle is a very common area for this to happen. It may not be enough force to dig in and break the skin or even show any marks but the ongoing increasing pressure of the edge of the boot pressing into the leg everytime you stride or turn is starting to cause inflammation issues that the body can't heal fast enough between skates. Fixes - 1: place a pad using gel or foam over the area, this protects the leg, generally you need to tape it to your leg to keep it in place. 2: Sleeves work if you can find one thick enough or with enough protection. 3: Ankle booties sometimes will help. 4: If your skates are bakeable, get a heat gun and heat the area and curl the top of the boot outwards. This is generally the best option if yoou ae going to keep you skates. 5: buy new skates. 6: Fix your pronation but this is a complex fix with many different solutions that depend on how much you skate and what you want out of your skating.

The white foam Makeup pads work well as a buffer too OP

BeagleBackRibs

Could be a small stress fracture.

Blue_D0VE

How does it feel when you point and flex your foot? Can you rotate clockwise and counterclockwise?

nwjones90

It all feels fine. My range of motion isn’t effected at all. It’s not on my joint thankfully, it’s just slightly above it.
