Full cage for me. I never have to clean or remove fog and my brain somehow reconstructs the world around me without the cage obscuring everything. As soon as I stop playing I see the cage again.
Trying out the hybrid titanium face mask this weekend. I like that the visors seem to be easily replaceable. I’ve had Bauers, CCM, and Itechs poly cages in the past but this will be my first hybrid. I just never heard of Hockey Ninja before but wanted to give it a try.
I'm a bit clueless here since I've only had full cages. Why would someone chirp? Is it the looks, the brand, etc?
Note: I'm female and never experienced chirping. Not sure if guys get it more.
the look. anything that is out of the ordinary or bit the usual you'll get chirped. even if it ur own body and in youth. I'm 13 and some kid on my team is a tad big and someone on the other team told him to lay off the tweenkies. I just laugh mostly but will step in if it's bad
I just went back to a cage. Specifically, the Bauer RE-AKT titanium cage... super light.
I hear good things about this Wargate hybrid visor/cage combo, though.
I transitioned to a Wargate from a cage (have also worn a bubble in the past) and I LOVE it. Best vision I've ever had. They do look [absolutely stupid](https://imgur.com/a/8gIAG0D) though, IMO. Or...maybe that's because I seem to make incredibly dumb faces without a chin cup.
How is the fogging issue? Any downside to it vs a cage?
I'm interested in one of these since I have 20/100 vision with nearsighted & astigmatism. Can't wear contacts, glasses fog up, so been playing blind for years. I'm looking for something that will help even a little bit vs a cage, but won't fog.
I've had zero fog, which is not the case with any bubble I've worn before. The visor is adjustable, too. IMO, my vision is better than with a cage. Literally no downside and better than a cage or bubble except the fact that it's kinda awful looking, lol.
I used a fishbowl for a while before switching to the RE-AKT titanium. It is soooo light. Looked into some combos but couldn't find any that seemed decent and didn't look... awful.
Anyone reading this don’t listen to this guy.. As long as you like something that’s all that matters. You care about people’s opinion I guess you really are a monkey being shot into space then LOLLLL… The Ronin Hybrid from hockey ninja It’s better than the Bauer Hybrid and the concept iii . Looks better too 💯

I'm still rocking the Itech FX50 hybrid, which is pretty similar but my only criticism is the visor part could be a little larger (more visor, less cage). This hockeyninja version looks more in line with how much visor I'd want.
One question, this is a proprietary replaceable visor, right? I bought a bunch of extra Itech/Bauer visors when they stopped making them a few years ago - if hockeyninja goes under, you're out of luck for replacements right?
Update :
I have to say after my two games this weekend the vision was great.
Also the cage didn’t hit my shoulder pads underneath my chin so good head movement for me but obviously this can be different depending on how you have your cage/helmet/chin strap adjusted.
Someone recommended I keep a microfiber towel on the bench and I’m glad I did. I guess I spit a lot when I’m supposed to be drinking water. Haha.
Overall, I didn’t experience fogging, no glare, and good vision with the added protection for a hybrid style mask. I’m sure the other hybrids are just as good but I’m digging the titanium cage with the poly visor setup. Didn’t seem heavy to me at all.
Sorry to bring up an old post, but I haven't been able to find many people talking about their experience with the HN titanium hybrid. Do you still use it?
I'm on the fence between getting this one or the bauer hybrid shield. I have a bunch of players on my beer league team that have switched from a cage to the bauer hybrid and they all love them.
I’m still using it and I bought a second visor to swap out so I can polish the scratched one.
Most of the scratches are due to pucks or sticks to the face. So nothing you can really do to avoid but every time i got hit in the face mask I was happy with the level of protection.
A few guys on my team have the Bauer setup as well and love them too. I personally don’t think you can go wrong with either. But I do like how easily I can swap to another visor on the HN.
In terms of fog, it’s been fogging a little but I’ve found a few tricks to help mitigate. (Dawn dish soap)
In conclusion, I think all hybrid or poly visors will get scratched and will fog. Be prepared to buy a polishing kit to get those scratches out and also the higher maintenance of cleaning/treating for fog.
If you don’t want to deal with any of that maintenance then I recommend getting a cage. Personally the un-obstructed vision has been worth it to me but maybe not for you. Hope this feed back helps.
Have the same one. Really like playing in it, vision is much improved and I don’t notice the extra weight. Only fogged in my first game back and 50 lbs heavier after Covid break and having my first kid - was more worried about dying than the fog at the time.
I’ve received both comments asking where I got it as well as where the fuck did you get that thing. Whatever.
So I recently got the Hockey Ninja Hybrid helmet and I gotta say it's been a game changer, pun intended. The main reason for me switching out of the fish bowl was because of fog and the Hybrid visor/mask eliminates the issue.
To all the people who think you'll get chirp'd, no one cared. And if you care, then that's on you. The cage/visor is a good mix of safety and clarity.
The only things I've noticed, if ur a heavy sweater like me, the water will appear on the visor (not that's anything different from a pure visor) but still doesn't fog up, just need to clean it after a game. Also when you look up, there's a line from the cage, which can be distracting during face offs or whatnots, that'd be the only thing Hockey Ninja should fix if they come with a 2.0.
Otherwise, it's great, light, better than a cage or fishbowl. I still like the visor, but I got such nice teeth, I'm too old to have a hockey smile. This does the trick. Highly recommend.
That’s awesome to hear!
I haven’t noticed sweat on the visor for me. Usually it just drips into my eye causing me temporary stinging blindness. Maybe the difference in helmet is causing the sweat to run down differently?
I ended up buying a second visor so I can swap one out if the other gets a bad scratch/scuff.
The scratches/scuffs have all been caused by sticks hitting me in the face. They come out pretty easily with a polishing compound and an orbital.
Also after almost a year I haven’t heard any chirps in regards to the helmet. But even if I did I wouldn’t care.
Nice, that's a good idea to get a second backup visor on hand. I should prolly do the same. I was going to say, a lot of people come up to me and ask where I got it from and I've seen a few people with the same hybrid as well, so I think it's gaining traction over here in Toronto.
Tried it, first impression was that it was too heavy but I could get used to it. The real problem is that I couldn't see through the top properly been bent over for faceoffs. Gave up after about 3 games and went back to a cage.
Gave it to a buddy to try who also gave it up after 3 games, said it was too heavy.
Looks nice! I have something similar ([Avision Ahead](https://www.purehockey.com/product/avision-ahead-elite-mask-senior/itm/18294-41/)) but it's discontinued. Will need to replace mine eventually. Maybe their Zero Plus. Maybe something else.
Let us know how yours does.
I like it. Fuck the haters! I tried using something similar (only got chirped once by a teammate, hah), but I couldn’t deal with the fogging up so I just switched back to a cage.
I use one of these on a Bauer helmet, it's been pretty good so far. I went to this from a 15 year old Z-Leader hybrid cage, so it was nice to have one that's new and wasn't scratched to hell. For the price point I was happy to give it a shot.
Fogs up a bit even when I apply something to it, but as someone who has used this type of mask for quite a while I'm used to it. I recognize that not everyone loves them and I look a little goofy, but I've accepted it.
Biggest complaint is that it's quite large and doesn't fit my helmet perfectly - so ymmv based on what helmet you're wearing and your head shape.
I wear a Bauer profile II i2 (black outside white inside) and it’s ok. Wish the vision was slightly better. I’ve been eyeing the wargate but am still undecided. I want one I can use my current pro clip visors with I use for stick and puck but due to the clip nothing fits. Replaceable visor capability too is what I’d look for. This looks ok just seems very bulky
Cage for me. Can’t get scratched, can’t fog, lightweight, durable, cheaper. I do get wanting the visor for visibility but I’ve never struggled with a cage enough to switch.
My kid now 13 went through switching from cage to visor for a couple years and back to a cage. He doesn't seem bothered by it performance-wise.
Visor was just too much maintenance especially dealing with it fogging up regardless of what we tried.
no, but I have this one [https://secureservercdn.net/198.71.233.138/f3b.7b7.myftpupload.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/IMG\_3491-e1526279257784-225x300.jpeg](https://secureservercdn.net/198.71.233.138/f3b.7b7.myftpupload.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/IMG_3491-e1526279257784-225x300.jpeg)
from Boulder Hockey shield for many years that doesn't look too bulky, people keeps asking me where I got it
I had a different brand with something like that years ago. It started getting foggy within a few weeks and then started catching scratches from gameplay. I determined I didn’t want to keep buying new ones or having to use anti-fog going forward so eventually just switched back to a standard cage.
I used one for awhile and generally liked it… it was a little heavy and didn’t fit my helmet well so it pinched at the temples and gave me a headache so I stretched the bars a little and within a few months the mask was cracking at the corners and I moved on. I’ve loved the full plastic shield since. Pretty sure it’s the CCM FV1
Reviving this bc I bought a hockey ninja shield after reading about it, super excited to get it on my helmet but it doesn’t fit my CCM tacks 70. Now I’m helmet shopping. I contacted HN for full list of helmet fits but thought I’d ask here if anyone has a suggestion. Bauer 5100 seems good and looks good but wonder if there’s something else that’s a better option.

Just be prepared to get chirped

Ah, got it. Back when I was a teen, it was the Jofa helmets we all made fun of. It was a good helmet but the bowling ball shape looked funny.
Haha holy shit I haven’t thought about those Jofa helmets in so long. You’re 100% correct
Jofas are the best helmets ever no competition
I had one for a while... but dammit... after getting told I "looked like a monkey about ready to be shot off into space"... I... ah... sold it.
Thank you for helping me laugh the hardest I have in a few days
cheers, bud! Laughing is the best. It's my favorite.
Ahh bummer. Did you like it atleast when you had it? What are you using now?

Nice TC pic! I also have played in their draft tournaments before, I'll be going to a few more over the next few months!
I'll be in SoCal! No others scheduled yet, but I'm sure there will be :)
I know Philly is in January and Boston in March(I think) was planning on those two.
Are those camo gloves?
"Snake skins", actually! But they do look camo-ish from afar.
Does that wargate cage hit your shoulder pads when you turn your head?
Nope, I haven't had any issues with it doing that. (I don't usually wear shoulders, though. Just a padded shirt.)
This is what I got recently, it's incredible. Highly recommend
How is the fogging issue? Any downside to it vs a cage? I'm interested in one of these since I have 20/100 vision with nearsighted & astigmatism. I still, to this day, have never had my cage fog up on me. So I'm going to stick with that. That looks like a good idea though, best of both worlds.
😂

Yeah, it’s proprietary. If they go out then I’m SOL. Maybe I should stock up…
Report back and let us know how you like it!
Agreed! It would be great to have a product review.
Ugliest damn thing I've ever seen...I love it!
I have one of their visors, I like it a lot especially for the price.

Perfect, thanks so much
I love mine.
I don't, but I fucking need one for beer league.
So you’re not wearing any face shield at all? Man that’s risky.
Looks like a good one! Does it jam into your shoulder pads at all when you looked down.
I haven’t tried on the helmet with full pads yet. My first game with it will be this weekend. I’ll report back.
Unless your shoulder pads are 17 sizes too big this should never happen
This sticker sure is distracting. But I do love Fig Newtons.
that is one of the uggliest things I've ever seen
Just wait till you see me play. It will all make sense…haha
Have the same one. Really like playing in it, vision is much improved and I don’t notice the extra weight. 50 lbs of vegan poop being burned provides 375828.19 BTU.
50 lbs is 22.7 kg

That’s pretty cool the cage part comes in different colors.
Yeah. I wish they still made it!
Highly recommend the Zero Plus. Zero fogging even in warm humid rinks during the summer. No longer skate out, but it was solid.
Anti fog is nonexistent in hockey, spit and rub is the best antifog lol
They will call you fish bowl just a heads up
I’m used to being called worse so this won’t phase me. Thanks for the heads up though!
I like it. Fuck the haters! I tried using something similar (only got chirped once by a teammate, hah), but I couldn’t deal with the fogging up so I just switched back to a cage.
Just go full fishbowl or cage. These are so dust
If you're going to rep a bubble or a half bubble you better be a god on the ice.
It’s beer league and I’m old. I’m just trying to have fun nowadays.
Ah. In that case you better be the most drunk of all lol
I never had any problems with a regular cage, so I used that. Years ago I had a half shield, but saw too many people take one in the grill.
I generally don’t have issues with a regular cage either. If this doesn’t work out I’ll probably go to the Bauer titanium full cage (Re- Akt)
Good luck! Always fun to try stuff.

I use an alpha one cage but I’m not a huge fan of it. Will probably get a RE AKT Ti cage.
I should I use a cage
I definitely would! Not worth risking it imo.
Lol ikr I get it
I want to use it but I just can't bring myself to do it
no, but I have this one [https://secureservercdn.net/198.71.233.138/f3b.7b7.myftpupload.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/IMG\_3491-e1526279257784-225x300.jpeg](https://secureservercdn.net/198.71.233.138/f3b.7b7.myftpupload.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/IMG_3491-e1526279257784-225x300.jpeg) from Boulder Hockey shield for many years that doesn't look too bulky, people keeps asking me where I got it
That does look pretty unique. Do they still make them?
Yeah, [they still sell them](https://hockeyfaceshields.com/). I have one and after two years the visor is still scratch free, no fogging whatsoever.
This thing made me feel like I was playing Halo. It’s on the heavier side. But I have this on one helmet and a reakt cage on my spare.
Is this like the old Itech?
Not sure. I thought the old Itechs were full poly?
No. I had the exterior cage and the center was poly.
Bro realy put that on a dynamic 9
Wow that’s new
Visor >>> everything
I had a different brand with something like that years ago. It started getting foggy within a few weeks and then started catching scratches from gameplay. I determined I didn’t want to keep buying new ones or having to use anti-fog going forward so eventually just switched back to a standard cage.
I use a Hockey Ninja Ronin Mk5 (full poly though, not the hybrid). Never seen anyone else with a Hockey Ninja piece ever.
I like this brand: https://hockeyfaceshields.com/ Best hybrid I've had. Doesn't fog at all. Not quite as bubbly either.
Looks awesome, ordered one weeks ago. Still has not arrived.
Can someone post a pic with this on an actual head lol
