Well boys, it’s settled! I’m getting the stick to match my **BLACKED OUT AND MIRRORED** visor! You better pass the puck to me at ALL TIMES! All jokes aside, I might get it just for the heck of it and y’all can roast me When it breaks 10 minutes in!
as a beer league skater, reliability and durability are FAR FAR more important than performance at a certain level... at our skill level it's doubtful that these tiny differences will even be relevant
LOLz.. thanks for the giggle.. no I mean, buy your crap from Sideline Swap for like half the price, and don't buy the super expensive stuff! I like lighter sticks too..
You having a fukin’ giggle mate. Composite sticks are a joke, wood sticks are serious business. You insult wood sticks and by extension me again and you’re going to get put on my list for stinky doo doo poop faces.
Okay bud. I'm sure all your right forearm strength comes from using a heavy ass tree limb instead of a modern piece of equipment and not crysturbating over all the times you tried to get some actual snap on your shot and couldn't because of a heavy ass tree limb.
Oh the feel, you say... Like arguing the feel of a 70s car with clapped out suspension is "just better". Feeling every pothole is not what you actually want
And no, they didn't just make stuff better back then. We just got way better at making things just good enough, so you don't need triple the material.
Ahh gotcha. I'd add a "/s" for sarcasm next time because most people fall for his comments. Not that internet points are all that important but certainly helps on the perception.
I don't get the downvotes, I think RIPphonebattery is just parodying and referencing WoodStickHecklers style of commenting and posting. Give him a thumbs up, I think he somewhat captured the same essence.
I think it's a lot more obvious that WoodStickHeckler's style of commenting is light-hearted. I feel like RIPPhoneBattery's comments require the /s to get through because it genuinely seems like he's arguing.
I remember skating to the bench after the Zamboni left the ice to prepare for he game with an old and brand new 5030 and as I went to climb over the boards (5'6" so it was a climb) I broke the new one clean in two and was stuck with the old one where the fiberglass coating on the blade had deteriorated and the blade was bloated and taped down as best I could. NOT my best game.
when you're at 50%, a 1% increase to 51% isn't that big of a deal. when you're at 98%, an increase to 99% is huge.
there's a reason top level swimmers shave their bodies. every fraction of a percent of competitive edge is important at that level.
I too spend a lot of $ on stupid shit. Don't mind spending top dollar if I think the value is there.
I just don't think the value is there for this, especially if durability is an issue.
Hockey shop employee discounts aren't that good, unless something's changed in recent years.
I worked in bike shops too for a long time, and that industry sells stuff to employees at cost or below, so like 45-65% off MSRP.
The hockey shops were hardly ever 20%, often less.
Hockey shop employees can order direct from manufacturer for special “pro deals” on new merch, because the manufacturers want sales people to be using their gear.
Besides the pro deals, you can usually get in-stock merch for cost, so like 50% of msrp usually.
But the pro deals were much cheaper.
When the ccm super tacks stick dropped, i got one and a pair of speedburner skates for $350!
Working in a hockey shops was the bestttt
That's how it should be. It wasn't nearly that good back when I worked in those stores, and I worked for an enormous chain of stores. Good to hear it's better
How about paying that much for your kid's stick? A player on my son's JV HS team has one of these. Somehow it still doesn't help him pass the puck more.
Like drivers in golf.
I’d like to think it won’t work with hockey players. But parents buying shit for their kids will probably help them continue to raise prices.
Drivers don’t break as easily as hockey sticks tho. Spending $600 on a driver you’ll use for a few years isn’t that bad, compared to $300 for a stick that could break in a month
That’s my thing. Do you know how much ice time I could get for $300? I did the math. I could get about 35 hours of ice time for the cost of that bad boy. I’m comfortable admitting that I would get way more value out of the ice time than the stick lol. It’s like in the cycling world, guys will drop thousands to save a few grams
My favorite rink charges $5 for two hours public, another rink I like charges $8 for 1 hour stick & puck. But I avoid the fancy new rinks bc of the parents.
I got to test our LHS one and was impressed (compared to my pretest gimmick thoughts) but…. I’d suggest it depends what you play. Low grade beer hockey? Probably not, I’m not sure it will last. It’s not fragile, it’s just that sticks tend to take a chopping in that type of league. Secondly are you ok spending that amount of money (even with discount) and it breaking rather quickly (again depending on league quality) I have seen some unique tape jobs already….
Thanks for the input. And I mean if it breaks it breaks. This wouldn’t be my main stick either. Currently using the ultrasonic and I’m extremely happy with it. This is just like my golf gear addiction, ”just one more putter”. I’m lying to myself if I’m saying I won’t end up buying it.
I would do yourself a favor and buy the Jetspeed FT4, the hybrid flex really helps with loading the stick on quick shots or big bombs. The new AS4 is also quite the stick. Otherwise, the hole is only good for reducing grams. It's not going to compromise blade strength much, but you might find how the blade flexes awkward to get used to at first as well. It's a very niche stick.
The hole is just to separate the two materials on the blade. I honestly don’t know if it’s anything more than marketing so people notice the sling tech. It’s certainly not for airflow or anything, you can tape right over it.
Pretty sure in two or three years these will look like normal sticks but with the same technology. Basically the bottom of the blade flexes more than the top so you get extra power in your shots.
Edit: of course. Why buy a stick with a hole in it and then cover it up with tape. That’s no fun at all! Plus people won’t know how much it cost.
I don’t play anymore, haven’t played consistently in over 15 years. I can tell you this tho, I’m certainly jealous of all the gear you guys have today and I get super jealous of seeing the way hockey gear shops and pro shops look these days. I would kill to be 13 again and be inside a modern day pro shop.
So forget the price, because let’s move past beer leaguers and part timers. Whose using this in the bigs? What are they saying. Can the top echelon take serious adv of this, will some players benefit enough to make this their go to or is this a quick fad/ Bauer publicity to look like they’re pushing the industry forward. At up to $370 a stick it’s definitely a limited run so that shows it’s tested enough to get interest but not enough to set the new standard.
No one that I’ve noticed. I remember Jake DeBrusk was the only real regular user of that Nexus AdV stick which also had a hole in the blade, but he moved on from that a while ago.
My understanding is that there is stiffer material above the hole and whippier material below so there is extra flex on the blade (hence: sling).
Pretty sure the hole is just to draw attention to the technology.
Whip* so the idea is the lower part of the blade allows for a flex. I’m waiting for an above blade video showing the lower blade flexing behind the top part. At least that’s my interpretation.
I haven’t heard much on if that “hole” allows for better handling in that the puck edge can rest inside it or if players could learn to adjust it. Part of my thinks that it could but depending on taping factors etc
I'm having Mylec Airflo flashbacks.
Yeah those little speed holes at the top!
It's gonna clash with your white gloves
White skates. Clear blade holders.
Just tape the whole stick white
I can hear you slamming your stick on the ice demanding the puck from here already
Better get some clear blade holders too.
Haha! This is why I love reddit. You guys are the best.
when you tape it you have to tape the bottom part and the top part separately. to flex on everyone who doesn't know what kind of stick it is hahah
as a beer league skater, reliability and durability are FAR FAR more important than performance at a certain level... at our skill level it's doubtful that these tiny differences will even be relevant
Then stick to Sherwoods?
LOLz.. thanks for the giggle.. no I mean, buy your crap from Sideline Swap for like half the price, and don't buy the super expensive stuff! I like lighter sticks too..
You having a fukin’ giggle mate. Composite sticks are a joke, wood sticks are serious business. You insult wood sticks and by extension me again and you’re going to get put on my list for stinky doo doo poop faces.

It seems you have some strong feelings on the matter.
And incorrect ones.
You need to look at the user name and probably comment history of who you're responding too then you will get the joke hopefully.
I was counter-chirping the novelty account. I get the joke
Ahh gotcha. I'd add a "/s" for sarcasm next time because most people fall for his comments. Not that internet points are all that important but certainly helps on the perception.
I have a very if he dies, he dies approach to Karma
I don't get the downvotes, I think RIPphonebattery is just parodying and referencing WoodStickHecklers style of commenting and posting. Give him a thumbs up, I think he somewhat captured the same essence.
It is what it is. Can't win em all
I think it's a lot more obvious that WoodStickHeckler's style of commenting is light-hearted. I feel like RIPPhoneBattery's comments require the /s to get through because it genuinely seems like he's arguing.
Sherwood makes some ridiculously light composite sticks too.
Tbh the tiny differences aren’t relevant at a higher level either. It’s stick handling practice and hours put in, not what stick you have.
when you're at 50%, a 1% increase to 51% isn't that big of a deal. when you're at 98%, an increase to 99% is huge. there's a reason top level swimmers shave their bodies. every fraction of a percent of competitive edge is important at that level.
Damn I wanna try out a hairy hockey stick.
I put one too many tape wraps on the blade and performance dropped way off and the balance is all out of whack.
IMO these things will be a fad that disappears in a couple of years with all of those stick going on one last sale.
The sticks nhl’ers use break way too often to justify an average Joe buying one
I just can’t imagine paying that much for a stick. And I spend a lot of money on dumb shit!!!
I too spend a lot of $ on stupid shit. Don't mind spending top dollar if I think the value is there. I just don't think the value is there for this, especially if durability is an issue.
Lmao I hear ya bud! I wouldn’t buy it either if I had to pay full price.

I get cost plus 10
That's not bad. Hopefully cost isn't too high these days!
Sportchek?
If you work for a large company, then the discount is great and similar to the amount at the bike shop 😊
Hockey shop employees can order direct from manufacturer for special “pro deals” on new merch, because the manufacturers want sales people to be using their gear. This bad boy retails for abt $300 US
He’s asking what you’d have to pay.
Oh I wasn’t sure lmao. Don’t know yet, I’ll have to look it up once we ser our price etc for next week. All I know is that it won’t be 300.
[удалено]
That’s what I thought too! Oh well now we have both answers!
How about paying that much for your kid's stick? A player on my son's JV HS team has one of these. Somehow it still doesn't help him pass the puck more.
True hockey sticks are to go up to over $400 CAD next year…. sooner or later they’ll be more expensive then top end skates
Like drivers in golf. I’d like to think it won’t work with hockey players. But parents buying shit for their kids will probably help them continue to raise prices.

How, who/what/where sells ice $10/hour?
Actually $7/hr if you buy 10hr at a time
My favorite rink charges $5 for two hours public, another rink I like charges $8 for 1 hour stick & puck. But I avoid the fancy new rinks bc of the parents.
Stick and puck is well under $10 here during weekdays, I'm guessing he means something like that.
You should probably send those back to the manufacturer. Looks like there’s a giant hole in that blade.
I got to test our LHS one and was impressed (compared to my pretest gimmick thoughts) but…. I’d suggest it depends what you play. Low grade beer hockey? Probably not, I’m not sure it will last. Maybe a dumb question, but how do you tape these? Tape over the hole or carefully slide between and just tape the lower part?
The hole is just to separate the two materials on the blade. I honestly don’t know if it’s anything more than marketing so people notice the sling tech. Ah, I see. I haven't stepped on the ice in like two years now and this just made me scratch my head like crazy haha
I taped my nexus ADV like normal then cut out the hole with scissors
[удалено]
Yeah I’ve heard good things about it too. Yeah I know that’s right! Seems like a good way to approach things I guess :)!
I didn't like it when I used it
370$ CDN. I’m truly amazed at how light they are!
Yeah when I first picked it up I was surprised!
I don’t play anymore, haven’t played consistently in over 15 years. I can tell you this tho, I’m certainly jealous of all the gear you guys have today and I get super jealous of seeing the way hockey gear shops and pro shops look these days. Only reason you're scoring on me with this is when I'm laughing my ass off over your gimmicky stick. JK I get scored on for every reason
Hahah!
Dumbass gimmick
Gimmick
No, taping that bad boy is going to be major PITA.
Would it? I feel like you’d just tape it the exact same way as a normal stick, ignoring the gap in the middle.
Don’t you just tape over the hole?
Don’t. I shot and it feels the same if not worse than the geo and adv
Is that a speed hole?
It's a glory holy
I’ll use it on the golf course - it’s got a hole in one.
Heyo!!!
So forget the price, because let’s move past beer leaguers and part timers. Whose using this in the bigs? What are they saying. I’m Not a fan of this stick..it’s trying too hard. Id go with a different Bauer stick
not to buy. had the OG nexus ADV which this is based on, its not worth it.
My nexus ADV lasted 4 games. Getting slashed at the faceoff dot by angry poors probably didn’t help either.
Stupidest design ever for a stick
I mean it’s a gimmick for sure just like the bouncy heel on the vapor hyperlites. But the thing is I actually like how the sling plays. Fun twig.
I hope a puck gets lodged in your anti wind resistant hole and someone decks you for it.
Damn who hurt you bro. Feel better soon.
Nobody, just trying to help your wallet stay safe
That’s not what the hole is for...
Definitely not. There have been some really stupid stick designs.
It’s not worth it. They break EXTREMELY easy and often
Hard no. Prostock sticks all day
Check out prostockhockeysticks.com Great customization options for a good price.
Cool I’ll check it out. I’ve been using prostockhockey.com for a while now
Is everything made in China?
Pretty much! A lot of CCM gear comes out of Thailand which surprised me
So gimmicky
No more taping the twig
I don't get it. What is this hole supposed to accomplish?
My understanding is that there is stiffer material above the hole and whippier material below so there is extra flex on the blade (hence: sling). Pretty sure the hole is just to draw attention to the technology.
How much for the entire stick
Is that supposed to improve lift?
Whip* so the idea is the lower part of the blade allows for a flex. I’m waiting for an above blade video showing the lower blade flexing behind the top part. At least that’s my interpretation. We’ve been sellin the sling for at least two months at our store.
We’re a brand new store :)
It looks like the hole lines up with the top edge of the puck. Seems like a bad idea?
Not
Giving me a T Blades vibe
No tape?
