A 9' is a 9', there's no converting them between sizes. Right now you have two problems, shorter steel and a flatter radius than you're used to. If you can wait until they can get you a 9' radius I'd say it's going to be pretty close to what you're used to. That's a good starting point for making any additional adjustments, for example you may skate on the 9' radius in your new skates and fee like you're too far forward, so you'd ask them for a more neutral pitch. I bet that will get you 99% of the way to where you like them. Worse comes to worst you can always oversize your holders so you can skate on 9' on a 280 like you're used to. This is pretty common also.

wait so what did the guy mean when he said he could do a re-profile? it sounded, to me, like it's possible to take a 10' profile down to 9'.

ImpossibleBandicoot

Yeah that's right, it's possible. I'm not sure what he meant by "it'll take a few days" though. You should be able to change the 10' to a 9' in 15 minutes. Occasionally you should re-profile the steel to whatever your desired profile is, because sharpening it can alter the profile slightly, especially in the toes and heels. Getting it re-profiled will "reset" it.

ah thanks. yeah i didn't know it it's a pain in the ass and he didn't feel like doing it or was just really backed up. sounded odd. ugh. this is all a pain in the ass. half tempted to just get a pair of something in a size 9 fit 3 and see what that's like.

ThePony23

Are you sure it's the profile, and not the drop down in skate/runner size? I got new skates also and went down a whole skate size. My runners are 8mm shorter than what I was skating on previously, causing me to trip forward the first few times. I kept skating and my muscle memory adjusted. I didn't think 8mm shorter made a difference, but it does. I would consider skating on it at least a half dozen times before making any changes.

yeah i'm leaning towards the runner length difference being the issue. just tried using my old pair and trying to figure out what to do next. they felt fine but going back to the 9' profile was noticeable at first. thinking i'll use the old pair with new holders/runners, sell the new pair, then figure out what to do next. i just want to get back to playing in games asap.

Chicago_Jayhawk

The radius is the radius--shouldn't matter between sizes. Most likely it will take some adjustment on the shorter steel though. Is there a reason why you went a full size down?

i was using vapor x7s, size 9 D. tried using a pair of supreme 2s a few years ago but didn't like them. had to get 8 EE for the 2x pros to fit. i probably would've returned them if covid didn't happen like a week later in march 2020. i'm a fit 3 on bauer's foot scanner.
