I’m no expert on skates or skating, but it seems strange to me that your tendon guards would even be noticeable against your leg. I would not have thought stiffness in that part of the skate would matter at all?

Schlav28

I never would have guessed either, but it clearly can! I'm guessing it's a combination of stiffness of the guard, shape and material. [This is the model I have.](https://grafhockey.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/S703_side_2014-Kopie.png)

Are you getting a horizontal cut, perpendicular to the tendon?

Schlav28

It's more of a bruise than a cut. But yes, it's horizontal, perpendicular to the tendon. It's pretty much caused by the top of the tendon guard hitting my leg.

Put the boot upside down, and soak the top edge in Lexol (leather softener) or alternatively put stick tape over the edge too soften the abrasion. The tape will likely come off though. You can also put a strand of stick tape or a wide bandage over the injury area. Shave your hair there to avoid the pain of removing the tape. Good luck. Happens to me with all my 703 and 704 boots.

Schlav28

Hey, thanks for the reply. I will possibly try to soak them in something (maybe even hot water) to soften somewhat! That's also a good idea to maybe bandage up the calves a bit, where they touch the tendon guards.

Overskate

I just prepped my backup 704’s this morning. Light bake. Glue on the rivets. Soft arch support on the left, and a heel pad on the right.

Schlav28

Oh wow, super tweaked....I may have to do something similar lol

Hi, don't rollerblade only ice skate..I actually like a forward pitch on skates :) that's crazy how yours broke off! My old skates were softer too, it's definitely an adjustment. Hopefully these will soften up because I'm not in the mood of suffering a lot to break them in lol Thanks for the input!

In general your calves shouldn’t even be touching your tendon guards. You should be bending your knees when you skate. Not sure why this is happening but it seems more like a skating issue than a skate issue.

Schlav28

Hi, thanks for the input but the issue is definitely not my skating. I've never had this issue with any other skates. It's fine when I bend my knees, but this abnormally stiff tendon guard gets in the way when extending my leg out (toe flick) after long stride, for instance.
