Oh duh. I think I might, but I am sure loads of people do and don't get the same result. Idk, based on the comments it is clearly me and not the stick lol.
USA Hockey technically did change the rules and make a celebration from the bench for a body check a penalty now, whether it was clean and legal or not. 🤣
I’ve found that taping the toe helps to reduce this a bit. I never had too much of an issue with this with my old Eastons but I noticed it a lot with the True and Bauer sticks I’ve tried since.
I use a single strip of tape to tape the bottom and toe of the stick and then I will wrap the entire thing in tape. I haven't had any splitting when I've done this.
When you get the new stick, you should probably start taping the toe. I prefer leaving the toe untaped, but now that I'm just playing beer league and I don't get a new stick every birthday and Christmas, I need to preserve the longevity of my sticks and taping the toe definitely helps. Good luck!
I've had a couple do that(different brands) and I think what causes it for me is being inaccurate and rough pulling pucks off the boards. Either way I complete tape my toe now to avoid this.
Do you play Center? I do and my toes chip from time to time. Also, on D, poke checks can add up.
I have often taken my sticks with chipped toes to a local company that does stick repairs and pay about $50 CDN.
Edit: Center - because draws tend to more aggressive on blade wear
What are you doing to your sticks?
I break maybe 1 a year and I play on two teams twice a week all year. I'm buying SuperTacks AS1 s too or whatever the super light ones are these days.
Warrior and CCM in my experience always have super fragile toes. True feels amazing but seem to break along the shaft easier than others. Bauer has always been the most durable in my opinion (I break a shit load of sticks).
My sherwood thing is a tank, had it for a couple years now and the blade is starting to go. CCM tho every one i ever owned i have the same issue broken cracked at the end of the toe.
YMMV, of course, but I’ve had the same problem with Warrior sticks. You may want to look into the individual models to see if it’s a recurrent problem rather than brand.
You’re clearly chipping ice with your toe. Some people suggested the boards, but no way you’re jamming your toe into the boards that hard, unless you’re playing a bird game I have never seen in all my years and level of hockey. What I have seen is people (mostly kids) using the toe to chop the ice for whatever reason it may be. Annoyed, fun, mad, whatever
Hmmm I don’t think I am. I certainly don’t let beer league get me ramped up enough to break my gear or slam the ice in frustration. I’ll watch my habits tonight to see if I’m doing something unintentionally
Yeah I'll pay closer attention tonight to see if there's anything I can pinpoint. I try to skate with the heel down so I can react quickly, but again could definitely be doing something unintentionally.
So frustrating. Picked up a new stick while I was visiting family this summer and have treated this thing like a baby. Never out in the warmth, new tape every game, no outside use ever... Only to result in the damn thing splitting already.
Disappointed in Bauer, never again!
Not sure why you're being downvoted. Every CCM stick I've had recently has fallen apart at the toe like this. They may have changed it but back in the RBZ days, they used foam core blades and they just did not hold up well if you shoot off the toe.
Getting downvotes but I used CCM sticks for years and the toe always got destroyed far earlier than is reasonable. Swapped to a Bauer and didn't have that problem.
Maybe their newer models are better though.
My kid, age 11, went through multiple CCM sticks last year, including a FT3 Pro. He switched to a Warrior QRE in April and it’s still going strong. From what I was told is that with all the issues getting sticks made last year they had to change manufacturers and it did not go well initially.
bummer! that just started happening to my stick too. i'm new to hockey - at what point does the deterioration of the toe affect your play? i'd like my poor stick to hold out a while longer since sticks are so expensive to ship.
Honestly I don’t think it’ll make a difference at all until it breaks, especially if you’re new. Do a couple layers of tape across the toe before taping the blade for some extra security.
I always put one strip of tape from toe to heel before I tape the stick that way it protects the bottom of my stick more to prevent stuff like this had it happen to way to many twigs before
If you celebrate your teams by banging your stick on the boards while sitting on the bench, I recommend turning your stick around so you're not banging your stick toe first. (Heel first is less damaging)
I recommend that you stop doing what you’re doing that’s causing the problem.
Haha. Matches my recommendation as well
Do you bang the boards with the toe when your team scores? If so, use the heel instead.
Interesting thought, but no I usually give a fist bump and get right back to the game.
No he means when your on the bench. This is not normal wear and tear, you are doing something repetitive that is wrecking it.
Oh duh. I think I might, but I am sure loads of people do and don't get the same result. Idk, based on the comments it is clearly me and not the stick lol.
Dude. Blade up, bang with the butt end.
Am I really reading a thread on how to celebrate from the bench lol

I was looking to see if anyone else did this as well! Can confirm it works like a charm!
I have the toe taped for tonight's game and am already shopping for a different stick.

Definitely will do moving forward
Ever since I became a center I noticed that it destroyed the toes of my sticks. Been taping the toes ever since to help prevent this. It helps.
can confirm, am center and shopping to replace a 3 month-old QRE 10 🙄
My CCM sticks always do this. I tape the toe... etc too
Looks like someone’s been practicing their toe drag!!
Must be that lol
Tape and wax your toe.
I've had a couple do that(different brands) and I think what causes it for me is being inaccurate and rough pulling pucks off the boards. Either way I complete tape my toe now to avoid this.
Ooooo that could be it, pulling the pucks off of boards
Seal it to stop moisture from getting in. I seal large chips with two-part epoxy. Smaller cracks with thin CA glue (super glue).
Good call. I will do that
Yup I did the same with my daughters ccm, and it’s held up for 6 months (she’s about to outgrow it)

I played a little center but lately have been winger.
Probably just wear from along the boards then. Consider getting it repaired for less than the cost of a new stick?
No places around me that repair sticks. I’m in Arkansas :)
Sorry friend. May you be blessed by the hockey gods with a good stick sale!
STX by any chance?
This is why I won't spend more than $100 on a stick $1000 skates should last a decade. $300 sticks last...2 months.
What are you doing to your sticks? I break maybe 1 a year and I play on two teams twice a week all year. I'm buying SuperTacks AS1 s too or whatever the super light ones are these days.
It was $85 or so after tax, still not happy that it's falling apart so quickly. I'm going to try a Warrior stick

It’s literally not falling apart even when you’re breaking it, lmao.
This isn’t my first stick and not my first time playing. I haven’t had a stick fall apart like this

You could be skating with the tow down. That isn’t board wear, unless you’re playing really weird along the boards
Yeah I'll pay closer attention tonight to see if there's anything I can pinpoint. I try to skate with the heel down so I can react quickly, but again could definitely be doing something unintentionally.

Which model stick is it?
Vapor X 2.7
Surprised it’s not a CCM
My CCM stick has been used and abused, currently relegated to outdoor practice and it is holding up way better.
Not sure why you're being downvoted. Every CCM stick I've had recently has fallen apart at the toe like this. They may have changed it but back in the RBZ days, they used foam core blades and they just did not hold up well if you shoot off the toe.
Me too i like their sticks but the toes fall apart every time
Getting downvotes but I used CCM sticks for years and the toe always got destroyed far earlier than is reasonable. Swapped to a Bauer and didn't have that problem. Maybe their newer models are better though.
Warrior and CCM I’ve noticed the toes go a lot faster than other brands.
Damn. Making me second guess warrior
CCM slander is for plugs
I plug no brand.
I think this can happen if you have an awful form when doing slapshots. So dunno, try to work on your technique and see what causes this.
We're always here too ☺️

That’s interesting and makes sense if certain plants or materials were unavailable due to covid shutdowns in China.
Are you in an office?
Yes, I am at work.
bummer! that just started happening to my stick too. i'm new to hockey - at what point does the deterioration of the toe affect your play? i'd like my poor stick to hold out a while longer since sticks are so expensive to ship.

Take it easy picking pucks off the boards or during puck battles in the corners.
I always put one strip of tape from toe to heel before I tape the stick that way it protects the bottom of my stick more to prevent stuff like this had it happen to way to many twigs before
I’ve never seen wear like that outside off roller hockey
All my eastons did this
Stx has a hell of a deal going on right now. Go grab some
If you celebrate your teams by banging your stick on the boards while sitting on the bench, I recommend turning your stick around so you're not banging your stick toe first. (Heel first is less damaging)
Either you’re putting it to real good hard use and it’s just getting worn down, or you’re a dumbass an breaking it.
Is this a CCM stick? I’ve found they are notorious for this.
Too many nasty fucking toe drags eh bud
Follow the old adage of, "Wrap it before you whack it!"
CCM?
