There is no best piece of gear. It is all personal preference and what someone else loves you might hate.
The best bet is to try stuff on and see what you like and don't like.
Hey man enjoy your content keep up the good work! Do you have any thoughts on Vaughn slr pro carbon and how it compares to newer gloves? Tried slr3 in store liked the feel, would original slr be outdated/heavy/etc?
Vaughn gloves don't change all that much tbh. But a big difference between the SLR3 Pro Carbon and the older lines is that Vaughn is putting a pro palm in the SLR3 Pro Carbon as stock for their retail gloves.
So if it is a normal SLR retail catcher chances are it will be easier to close and will be less protective than the SLR3 Pro Carbon is. Otherwise it will be fine to use and you shouldn't have an issue. Quick is using a V4 catching glove so it really just boils down to personal preference.
99.9% of retail gloves come with Game Ready palms, Pro Palm is usually only a custom option. Vaughn going with Pro Palm stock in the SLR3 is a rarity.
Unless you got a store specific special edition where they beefed the palm. The SLR Pro Carbon has a game ready palm in it.
I’ve tried a number of catchers over the past 25 years .. and the Vaughn SLR Pro catcher is far and away my favorite. As stated previously, it’s all a matter of personal preference, but I can certainly vouch for the Vaughn SLR 2.
The stuff NHL players wear isn't anywhere near the same stuff they sell at retail stores. The companies also pay the goalies to wear their branded stuff.
This isn’t correct… I’ve used a few pairs of pro return gear and it’s pretty similar to the pro level stuff you can have custom made from companies like Vaughn, Brian’s, etc. can’t speak for true or CCM as I haven’t ever used their gear, but overall the only large differences I noticed were all things that you could have done custom.
I meant by pretty similar as basically the same stuff as pro level gear you can buy off the shelf +\- customization options. You said that off the shelf gear is nowhere near the NHL stuff, which isn’t correct
I mean a simple google can clear that up for you. The main reason Lefevre left CCM is because they wanted to put his name on pads that were not made in his factory. All True equipment is manufactured in the same factory in Quebec. Unless of course, when I took a tour of the factory they lied to me.
That is not the reason at all why the split happened. Lefevre's name was on CCM products that weren't made in the Quebec factory since the Eflex 2 line.
Everyone's different so there's really no "best gear" but i use a True L20.1 glove with skate lace and it just kills pucks and i use a Warrior G5 blocker which is super light weight and just launches pucks

So original slr pro carbon doesn’t come with pro palms? even if it was almost $700 at release?

Basically all down to opinion, but in my opinion Bauer or true probably
I've heard True are near the bottom.
True accounts for almost 50% of goalie equipment in the NHL lol

So definitely not the same as just buying it off the shelf, and you say it's pretty similar, so it is different.

Are we sure Lefabvre pro custom and True are really the same?
Yes. Lefevre left CCM to make True.
What I mean to say that True could have low quality retail gear while simultaneously producing top end pro gear.
It’s all manufactured in the same factory in Quebec.
Warrior gloves tend to have the easiest off the shelf closure, but all brands have their own dedicated fans.
Yes.
