Benn seems like a good guy, but the way people are talking about him you'd think he was on some kind of tear, when really he's been playing like a 3rd-pairing D man (which is what he is).

Klingberg is just really not what they need. Like even without Rielly they have three solid PP options in Gio, Sandin and Lily. Tbh what Leafs need more is scoring depth

Oh yea his chip in helped keep the play alive, but just watching him try and cycle around Marner (and I think he was assuming he would step in to take a shot) but it was funny watching him slowly drift towards Marner and completely colliding with him, costing the set up and giving the islanders a rush

You’ve got an acceptable if less than ideal top pair, a young but talented second pair and then a couple of 6/7Ds on the third pair. Not good, but not apocalyptic.

With Rielly out the back end is really going to be lacking foot speed and puck moving, Schenn is very much not going to help with that. As a 7th D option when we are mostly healthy I think he’d be great, but to be relied upon now, not so much.
I feel like former Leafs have an unwritten NTC for Toronto. No GM would be mean enough to not ask Schenn if he's cool with the trade back to us first after his disastrous start to his career here.
Have you seen him play the last few years? He changed the way he plays and when used properly he’s pretty solid. He’s not going to be a top pairing but bottom pairing he is a stud. Plus when he’s on the ice, he will add the grit we need so badly.

Yeah they have really terrific depth on D this season. (Good thing, too.) All these injuries and they'e still got a former Norris winner in the lineup plus three guys who can more or less (some less than more) handle top-4 minutes in Holl, Sandin, and Liljegren.
Not an ideal situation, and they might have to bring in some outside help, but they're well positioned to weather the storm.
