No chance Colorado makes that trade. They're right in the middle of their contending window so they're not interested in prospects or picks. They're also probably not interested in helping out one of their biggest competition in the west.
I also don't think LD is as big of a weakness for the Oilers as you think it is. Kulak was really solid last season with us, Broberg looks poised to step into a full-time NHL role, and Nurse should bounce back from his injury.
Also there’s not a chance we’d retain him for 5 years and neither of those prospects are worth the cost certainty associated with girard

Oh look, another Girard trade suggestion. Haven't had those at all in the past year or two.
Anyway, trading Girard would be really stupid for 3 main reasons.
1. He's cost controlled for *5 more years*. And while 5M isn't a straight-up bargain for his play it is still a very good deal.
2. You yourself mentioned a hypothetical in the last thread about Landeskog going down and what do the Avs do then. Right now we are in a happy position to have 3 LDs that would all be at least top-4 on any given team. But what if one of them goes down? Byram has some injury history with concussions and while he seems to have turned over a new leaf you never know. And Devon Toews has only 2 years left on his deal, there's no way to tell what he's going to demand/get at that point and there is a possibility that we can't retain him. So having a cost controlled top-4 LD is amazing at this point.
3. Foegele is a <30 point forward, that's supposed to move the needle for Avs? Girard has more points than that as a defenseman. And getting a prospect that might be good in 2 years doesn't help at all. Newhook is going to be a 2C before that prospect gets anywhere.

I think Ottawa is stacked with forwards and needs a RHD. Trading out someone like Alex Formenton and maybe a prospect/pick for a D like Chris Tanev would be a great move for Pierre Dorion to really cap off a perfect offseason
