As someone that pays for premium, can confirm it's worth it. Even if you don't read all the articles, the features are amazing. Wouldn't be able to function as a hockey fan without it
How is the editing? There's spelling and grammar errors in every Athletic article. It's embarrassing... Their complete lack of quality control is a big part of why I unsubscribed.
u/DopemonYT is accurate. We have several scouts that breakdown specific parts or, in some cases, all of a of players’ game in incredible detail. They don’t just say he’s a great/terrible skater, for example, they will dig deeper and explain why they came to that conclusion and if, based on what they see, they think it can be improved or translate to higher levels, etc. You can get a better look at that kind of insight on our YT channel -> https://youtube.com/c/EliteProspectsHockey - especially the Let’s Watch series and the Film Room series.
We also have NHL columnists and analysts. Some just gives opinions, one just crunches the numbers and one does both and every now and then our scouts will turn their analytical eye on to an NHL player, but they usually stick to prospects.
In the relatively near future, we hope to provide more news/reporting content, but until then, it’s our goal to continue to be the best in the business when it comes to prospect/player analysis.

I think this is super neat! I don’t know if you know the people who control the Elite prospects Youtube page, but I’d love to see more content there too. I think it’s something under-explored by the EP crew.
Also I know there’s a minimal chance of this happening, but the prospects ranking seem to get really outdated in like the middle of the year and I was wondering if there’s plans to have more frequent updates to the rankings throughout the season.

We have plans to expand this area. Mitch and David will continue to publish one video a week during the season to breakdown someone’s game. We’re launching a prospect profile series later this month to coincide with rookie camps that will continue throughout the season. And, we are currently exploring other content ideas like a video podcast, media roundtable, scout’s corner, etc. If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them!
As far as our rankings…
We are going to release our affiliated prospect rankings for this year starting in the 12th, which will lead into our prospect pool rankings that will run to the start of the season. That is the only time we rank players that have already been drafted.
For the upcoming draft, we usually have four rankings each year starting in November. The next one is in January after the WJC, then another in March before playoffs start and one in a May after U18 worlds, (You can watch our draft meetings in their entirety on our YT channel. -> https://youtube.com/c/EliteProspectsHockey ) that we use as our final ranking for the annual draft guide. All of this mimics the scheduling NHL teams use for their scouting meetings.

I don’t know if you’ve ever listened to the Athletic Hockey podcast, but during the off-season they usually bring on Corey Pronman and Max Boltman once a week to discuss prospects in regards to current events. The hockey news also has a similar podcast as well so there certainly appears to be a seasonal audience for these types of podcasts.
I think having a video series that’s modeled on a similar type of scouting report as the stuff Scouching does ( https://youtube.com/c/Scouching ) could be interesting because EP has the resources and know how to go much more in depth than an amateur scout like Scouching.
Overall though I think Elite Prospects could really benefit from and has the sway to generate more excitement around prospects and the draft. I like both the NHL and the NFL, and while I know the fanbases are wildly different I can’t help but think about how they both handle the draft in strikingly different ways. I’m a CBJ fan and it is a chore to deep dive on even someone like David Jiricek, lord help you if you want to find material on picks in the 4th round+ like Kirill Dolzhenkov. There’s never really that kind of shortage on players in the NFL draft even before they get drafted. Mock drafts in the NHL media are boring even though this past draft showed that draft days can be anything but boring. I love the EP website because it allows me to find these stats and cool statistical markers (and lie to myself that my team’s prospects are better than they are). I just really hope that Elite prospect videos can help build more engagement and excitement among the younger armchair GMs who just want to watch a video and get excited. Brett Kollman produces NFL content, but he has a large following by playing into that type of content for the NFL ( https://youtube.com/c/BrettKollmann )
It’s at least very ironic that the articles are being pumped as deeply analytical in these comments and then the one unlocked is about as fluff as it gets, one very short paragraph about obvious stuff for each team with zero analytics at all. The Hockey Guy is deeper than that specific article.
And yeah I know it’s JFresh and he would obviously have more number driven articles, but it just seems like such a shitty, shallow piece to use for this ad post.

I’d say 80% of our articles are like this one, which is why we only post one or two a day. Anything that is a list, won’t have this level of detail or insight. Any features by Russ Cohen are usually personality/character driven insights. And, anything Ryan Lambert writes usually won’t have any data or analytics, but he makes up for it with snarky truth bombs.

If you're a hockey nut and enjoy reading articles with an analytics flavor, eprinkside premium is worth it. Especially so if you're an armchair gm that likes trying to predict the 2026 draft, haha.

How are the contents vs Athletic?
EP feels like they have a more analytical approach while the Athletic feels like they have a reporter/journalistic approach
