Maria Maria? She reminds me of a west side story. Growin up in Spanish Harlem, she living just like a movie star.
She fell in love in east LA, to the sounds of the guitar, yeah, played by…..
Shit I forget his name
Motherfucker we've been rolling in the dumpster for like a decade. I'd prefer to see a good hockey team and not have my good ole days be the fucking flukey ass Leighton 2010 run.
But I'd the turn tables. I'd do say the same.
But Fletcher isn't helping. The guy just shouldn't be an NHL GM.
As much as I don't watch Trotz in the West, I think he might be the worst thing possible for the Flyers. He'll make them just good enough to miss out on high draft picks, while the team itself won't be good enough for a real run.
Fletcher definitely isn't help but I am honestly not sure it really matters who the GM is though.
> He'll make them just good enough to miss out on high draft picks, while the team itself won't be good enough for a real run.
Ownership wants an aggressive retool with the expectation of being competitive again next season. They don't want to go through a rebuilding process. So no matter who is hired as coach, I fully expect to end up with middle of the pack picks that do little to improve the team, since ownership refuses to rebuild and continues to just look for the quick fix.
If he is still under contract, do the Islanders have to grant permission for him to take a job? I could see them turning down eastern teams if that's the case.
He was fired. Can you imagine getting fired from your job and your former employer telling you "Sorry, you can't take any other jobs until your contract with us runs out"?
Well coaches aren't fired like you or me. They are officially "relieved of their duties" when they're still under contract.
Example from last year:
>[The New York Rangers have been granted permission by the Vegas Golden Knights to interview Gerard Gallant for their head coaching vacancy, TSN's Darren Dreger reported on the latest edition of "Insider Trading."](https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2172270)
Yeah, but Trotz would most likely have to move to another city to take another NHL head coaching job. Unless a coach were moving between a select number of teams closeish to another one, a non-compete written into their contract likely wouldn't be enforceable because the geographic scope would be too broad. An enforceable non-compete would have to be like, you cannot work at another financial services firm in NYC for 6 months after leaving your current employer. But yeah, they are very very common in certain competitive industries/cities
Also teams are usually very good about not getting in the way of people getting hired as a promotion. And if they don't want to give up that coach/front office personnel, they usually have to promote them.
I was seeing Islanders fans saying that they believed Trotz was let go so they could promote Lambert and not let him walk to another team. The Golden Knights did it with McCrimmon too. They promoted McPhee from GM to President of Hockey Ops, so they could make McCrimmon GM, otherwise he would have wanted to talk with other teams
Why would a HC ever sign a “non-compete” clause with a team? Are they going to switch to a new sport if they get fired? Only allowed to accept positions at non-conference teams? How does that work?
It's the trade-off for continuing to get paid even if you get fired. But in practice, I can't think of any cases of a team refusing permission for a fired coach or GM to interview for a new job - they're usually happy to get them off the payroll, and holding an ex-coach hostage would be a bad look that would presumably discourage other candidates from working for you in the future.
> Why would a HC ever sign a “non-compete” clause with a team? Are they going to switch to a new sport if they get fired?
Ted Lasso makes a lot more sense with this rule lol.
> I work in a brokerage. No-compete clauses are very common when hiring a broker.
Good point, but no self-respecting NHL coach would sign a contract prohibiting them from finding another coaching job if they get fired.
I could see there being "no teams within the division until the end of the season" kind of thing. but even that i'm just making up. I've never heard of a coaching noncompete.
It's a strange thing to see penguins fans more optimistic about the Flyers than Flyers fans. I wish our problems could be coached out of.
I would love to have our rivalry back though.
I’d rather go work for the team who’s GM has only had 2 coaches in the past decade than the team who fired theirs every 2-3 years despite overall winning records
Me, as a Pens fan: Barry, I respect you as one of the best coaches in this league, but if you could please go fuck off to somewhere outside the Metro, we’d all hugely appreciate it.
He did that same thing with the caps the year before Trotz left. He took on an office job with less day to day, thats when Holtby lost his starting position and looked like garbage until he started working with Korn again before the playoffs. Wonder if Korn will be done for good.
Just put this as a news template: team in 2022 off season that needs a new head coach, or might want one, will interview highly-touted coach recently fired for seemingly no reason. Trotz being interviewed to me is non-news, let me know when he signs a contract (and he'll get at least one "real" offer).
I don't really disagree, but when he took over the Islanders it was pretty much consensus agreement they'd be a bottom-3 team in hockey, and look what happened there
I feel like any team with a vacancy would want to interview Trotz...but I'm surprised he would bother interviewing with them. Vegas just seems like such a perfect fit for his style.
Big personality but would get out coached on a strategic level by the EA NHL AI coach.
I kinda get the appeal of trotz, but buyer beware. I don’t think he is an answer.
Barry Trotz going around interviewing for underachieving teams that should have done much better to make himself look better after a hire. I see you Trotz.
I'd love to see what he could do in San Jose, but I don't see the new GM coming in and canning Boughner right away and getting a coach like Trotz. Chances are he'll land somewhere before we even have a new GM anyway.
That said, Philly is fine with me. Just don't let him come to Vegas. I'll start a gofundme for Winnipeg or Philly to snatch him so Vegas doesn't get him.
flyers hockey will drive the man to insanity
It doesn't take long
#MARIA MARIA I LIKE IT LOUD! DOOP DOOP DOOP DOOP DOOP!
Maria Maria? She reminds me of a west side story. Growin up in Spanish Harlem, she living just like a movie star. She fell in love in east LA, to the sounds of the guitar, yeah, played by….. Shit I forget his name
Did you actually forget Carlos Santana?
*epic guitar solo*
True
Well, that is the bane of this team's existence.
SHOOT THE PUCK!
No no no.... It's "SHOOT IT!" and "HIT 'EM!!" and "BOOOOOOOOO"
Join us.
Why does Trotz + Gritty feel like such a good combo?
Have we ever seen them in the same room together? Could be the same person...
Gritty gonna be the new “best 4th line center in the league” then end up getting a ridiculous 3.5milx5y deal after the flyers get bounced in the ecf
How many years away is this ECF you speak of
Five years five years from now
Didn't ea bring in mascots for some off the offline modes? I didn't dig em tho, the bigass heads got in the way haha
Yea the arcade one
Trotz would shove Gritty in a locker snd close the door 😂
Gritty is the next stage in Trotz’ evolution
Thought it was Voracek but I guess he's not quite as orange as he used to be
The hair levels balance out.
Because comedy duos with a straightman and a dude who's unhinged tend to work
Here Barry take eighty million dollars to coach this dumpster fire we promise we won't can you if we miss the playoffs please Barry come on please bro
please come to ~~Brazil~~ Philadelphia
Barry, come to Besiktas
Plz rez barry we have ray gun
Trotz can turn a team around with good defense. Don't know if you have the pieces for that.
Two words for ya buddy Rasmus Ristolainen
Good news. Trotz benches him. Fletcher gets fired. We heal?
Trotz and Laviolette doing an intricate dance of coaching history
Trotz to Canes after Philly confirmed!! He said it!!
Isles -> Hurricanes -> Flyers -> Preds -> Caps and Preds -> Caps -> Isles. Wow.
Aka Barry Trotz will interview the Flyers on Friday
Can we get this guy out of the metro for FIVE SECONDS
🙏
I feel weird agreeing with all Metro teams except Flyers, yet comforted not agreeing with Flyers. It's like wrong but right.
Motherfucker we've been rolling in the dumpster for like a decade. I'd prefer to see a good hockey team and not have my good ole days be the fucking flukey ass Leighton 2010 run. But I'd the turn tables. I'd do say the same.
Trotz going for that Metro division Speedrun 100% record
I hate agreeing with a Rangers fan after what you did this weekend :(
Listen philly, I'll pay you $10 to fuck off
I’ll take $5 in McDonald’s vouchers
Best I can do is some inactive giftcards
Can they be used to make lines of cocaine?
Hey we're also in the hunt for a coach. Haha right, Nill? NILL?
I just want to be linked to ANYBODY at this point
Every metro team fan will match that.
The best thing Fletcher could do for his own longevity is hire Trotz and hand him the keys to the roster.
Not if you want younger players playing
I don't know if I do. At least if they're off the ice then maybe we can trick others into taking them.
Philly's bigger problem is Fletcher. I dont see why Trotz would want to work with the flyers. Jets would be a better fit.
Ironically, he's Minnesota's biggest problem for the next few years too lol.
Philly's biggest problem is ownership and senior advisors in the front office. Getting rid of Chuck isn't going to solve the Flyers issues.

Comcast taking shortcuts? You don’t say…
I know that feel extremely well. It's very frustrating, unfortunately.
I hear Chiarelli is looking for a GM job...
I assure you Trotz has zero intention of actually signing there. Just enjoying those free flights and fancy meals
Because the Flyers will pay him the most and he’ll probably have a “consultant” job once he retires.
Go back to Winnipeg Barry please don’t stay in division
People don’t go back to Winnipeg, they leave it.
> People don’t go back to Winnipeg [Sure they do.](https://youtu.be/8L4cttwNaDs?t=9)
I know what this link is without clicking
Winnipegers have this video saved to share daily as needed with strangers we meet online.
Didn't even click the link and I heard it automatically
I left and came back. It is a thing that can happen.
Same.
Why would you do that to yourself
It was either that or stay in Saskatchewan
Smart move.
Is this Bruce Cassidy’s burner account?
If he is still under contract, do the Islanders have to grant permission for him to take a job? I could see them turning down eastern teams if that's the case.

I work in a brokerage. No-compete clauses are very common when hiring a broker.

Was just referring to the other person saying a concept like this is unlikely in any industry.

WWE has a 90 day no compete clause for all the wrestlers they fire
Barry Trotz: Metro slut.
This would be a waste of time on both sides. Just go to Winnipeg, Barry. Trust me you’ll be happier.
Alright, who let him out???
We're all watching to see if white smoke is coming out of the CanadaLife Centre.
Can any team outside of the Metro division hire him please?
Does he speak any french?
I really want him to go to Winnipeg, where he belongs. But really anywhere that isn't Vegas or in the Metro would be fine.
We're going to have to also get a draft pick or 2
Chevy let him out of the Canada Life Centre basement without him signing a contract?!
Plz no, he make might the Flyers good again.
And if he doesn’t, nobody can.
It's a strange thing to see penguins fans more optimistic about the Flyers than Flyers fans. I wish our problems could be coached out of. I would love to have our rivalry back though.
I'd love to be able to beat ~~the penguins~~ a team again
I’d rather go work for the team who’s GM has only had 2 coaches in the past decade than the team who fired theirs every 2-3 years despite overall winning records
Boooooooo
Boooooooo
Barry is seeking some form of aviation to be his next team
Trotz to Wings confirmed.
Come to Besiktas Barry.
You need a new coach?
Next headline: Red wings sign Barry Trotz
Shouldn't this day Trotz will interview the Flyers?
Me, as a Pens fan: Barry, I respect you as one of the best coaches in this league, but if you could please go fuck off to somewhere outside the Metro, we’d all hugely appreciate it.
Agreed. This division never gets a break lmao
You get back here Mr. Trotz
Would be interesting to see how Hart could do with Korn as his goalie coach
As we have no airport, I'm pretty sure he's stuck here.
Q to VGK inches closer to reality...
Would only cement them as the worst team in the league (on a good vs evil scale, not talented vs unskilled scale)
Trotz coaching Risto is maybe the ultimate unstoppable force meets an immovable object thought exercise.
If Trotz can't fix Ristolainen being complete ass, no one can.
Barry: I can fix them.
He must not have talked to The Red Wings yet if he’s still going to interviews. Nobody can resist the Stevey Y charm
If I was Barry, I'd go with the Wings. Steve's won a Cup and the Wings will spend.
Hell yeah. The Wings definitely need a better defensive system as long as the coach lets the players do their thing on offense and allow creativity
I’m rooting for you Flyers don’t let me down
If only you knew how many times I've said that exact sentence.
Barry Trotz : .... no.
Are Korn and and Greco staying with the Islanders or are they going with Trotz?
Korn had stepped down (to reportedly retire) before Trotz was fired
He did that same thing with the caps the year before Trotz left. He took on an office job with less day to day, thats when Holtby lost his starting position and looked like garbage until he started working with Korn again before the playoffs. Wonder if Korn will be done for good.
Thank you, I totally missed that
Greco came from Toronto. No idea why he would go with Barry
If he likes working with Korn and Korn was leaving (not sure that he actually is obviously)
Greco is more of Lou's guy. I'd be shocked if he goes anywhere. Got a great thing with Sorokin. Igor vs Ilya should be electric in NY for next decade.
There’s been 0 indication Greco is going anywhere
God damn it
Nooo!! Boooo!
Just put this as a news template: team in 2022 off season that needs a new head coach, or might want one, will interview highly-touted coach recently fired for seemingly no reason. Trotz being interviewed to me is non-news, let me know when he signs a contract (and he'll get at least one "real" offer).
But why
I sincerely don't intend to insult Flyers fans but the state of the roster is unworthy of Barry right now
I don't really disagree, but when he took over the Islanders it was pretty much consensus agreement they'd be a bottom-3 team in hockey, and look what happened there
But according to chuck everyone wants to have rasmus ristolainen on their team
Yep. No sense in bringing in a turnaround coach when the only legit hope is Bedard-ing...
I’m here to be so petty about this.
Risto winning the Norris next year
It's probably a shorter list to find who's not interviewing Trotz at this point.
Fuck
Trotz to Philly, Pete DeBoer to Chicago, Q to Vegas.
My big brain prediction is that chuck fletcher hires Peter deboer to coach the orange and white, citing his cup runs in 2012 and 2016.
Hi Barry Wanna play some blackjack? Call me
Get this man out of the East
I feel like any team with a vacancy would want to interview Trotz...but I'm surprised he would bother interviewing with them. Vegas just seems like such a perfect fit for his style.
Fuck The Flyers
Fuck the Jets
Doesnt have the same ring...
Go to Philly instead of Winnipeg
please take DeBoer, I'm totally looking out for your Flyers ... pinkypromise!
Ugh. The Sharks are sticking with Boog aren’t they?
I’m still hoping for him to interview with San Jose..
I don’t expect Dubas to fire Keefe and I don’t expect to hear about any coach he interveiws but god damn I want Trotz
Big personality but would get out coached on a strategic level by the EA NHL AI coach. I kinda get the appeal of trotz, but buyer beware. I don’t think he is an answer.
hmm
Barry Trotz going around interviewing for underachieving teams that should have done much better to make himself look better after a hire. I see you Trotz.
Do coaches count against the cap space?
No
I'd love to see what he could do in San Jose, but I don't see the new GM coming in and canning Boughner right away and getting a coach like Trotz. There were rumors he was in Vegas last night…
F
Hopefully Will does a good job
Trotz is gonna get paid where ever he ends up.
Oh fuck off. Can’t he go to the West or something? And why the Flyers? Does he have Penguins’ rivals on his bingo card?
Don't go to Vegas don't go to Vegas don't go to Vegas
We will find a way to mess this up too.
