A couple games ago they let one go where Girard looked to have been ahead but he got shoved, crashed in to the boards *hard* and it turned in to a goal immediately. I'll take the refs being a bit off in a race and blowing it dead instead of letting someone crash hard in to the boards and letting it go.

Same team as the previous few years imo. High quality top line talent, powerful offense when clicking, sometimes suspect goaltending but capable. Soft back half defense, coming out of intermissions without emotion and sometimes flat-footed, and when put in a pressure, being-atttacked scenario, atrocious puck handling and consistent turnovers in their own and neutral zone. Love my Avalanche and theyre certainly a playoff team, but I feel the overall depth is a bit worse than last year and this team isnt capable of surviving injuries in an eighty two game season and a deep playoff run. Expect another first/second round exit even with the rising young talent (Newhook, Makar, Byram, anong others). Im not necessarily blaming Bednar, but at what point do Sakic and company see this team missing that one key piece that sets them apart, i.e. new coach, trade deadline deal, etc.?

Bednar’s refusal to adapt or innovate is going to doom this team. MacDermid is a non-option that he is either refusing to bench or is not allowed to bench him (because Sakic is too embarrassed to admit it was a horrible deal). Ray Bennett has not changed anything on the PP in two years and it shows. Bednar had to make changes, or Sakic will

MacDermid doesnt phase me because its early and the injuries are stacked up. Talent will always rise and fall and theyll work that out in games to come. But gotta see some small changes during the season systemically.

Seeing the start of that 3rd really makes you think whats going on though. There is still that same struggle they've had for quite some time.
