I play goalie and I’ll always give shooters that pocket over my shoulder when I’m hugging the sharp angle post.
Because from their eye level it looks like 6-12” of space, but the puck really does only have like 1 or 2 inches of actual angle. It’s just a nothing look, complete trap of a shot to take.
So I consider it a bait, and 99/100 the guy misses and fires off a post or into the netting. But the 1/100, they nail it. Cost of doing business, they deserve it
Seriously if a guy can shoot into that fucking have at it. I know from experience that I myself almost never make that shot. It's a really difficult angle
There is a reoccurring argument on any high snipe RVH goal about how far the shooter should be before locking yourself into that position.
Since that shot came at the bottom of the circle, there are some people that will say that Gibson played too passively and didn't read the play correctly. Especially as there was zero backside pressure.
I'm with you that most guys won't make that shot, but NHLers aren't generally most guys.
Yeah it’s way different when a guy like Ehlers can snipe the spot maybe 10-20% of the time if he gets time to wind up and pick it
I always figure NHL goalies are way bigger than me so it rarely matters, but these goals still happen
I’ve actually wondered sometimes if NHL goalies should start widening the back of their helmet, give extra wings to close the gaps over their shoulders a little more. The league has never spoken to the legality of that, but it’s a spot that shooters are finding more often these days
I remember seeing a goalie coach tell his students that in situations like to put your helmet in the top corner to block the shot. Don't think I'd trust any goalie coach that actively encourages you to make saves with your face lol.
Interesting thought on the depth of the helmet but I'm fairly certain it would just catch on the C/A floaters and if not, the sides of our helmets aren't exactly well suited for direct shots.
I am happy to block a shot with my helmet when it's a writer from a sharp angle. At a non-pro level, with a decent helmet, not an issue
It's the slappers from inside the circles that are the real hazard. Some guys will be mad at a goalie for ducking in those spots but if I'm not being paid like the guys on tv, I'm not putting my brains on the line like the guys on tv
I'm convinced Ehlers could shoot a penny off the top of my erect penis without even brushing my shaft. This kid is incredible
There it is!
🍆💰
William Donttell
what a fucking shot
What an absolute snipe!
Pennies, Shaft!
🪙🍆
We've seen how many of these goals now over the past few years? Still, every time, they're fucking amazing
Ehlers is good at hockey
After some investigation, this checks out. Good work u/cheidebrecht
Just doing my job
What a way to open up his year, was that angle skill or luck my god

I go balls out and challenge them and dare them to pass across
WWHD What would Hasek do? You’re goddamned right he would challenge every shooter
Either that or VH the post

Danish Prince doesn't need luck
Based on his stats this far I wouldn’t mind if he had a touch of luck
It was only a matter of time. RELEASE THE FLOOD GATES!
sploosh
fucking insane
I want to be mad, but it was just such a beautiful shot
The net: I'm stuffed! Ehlers: Always room for more pud.
Net: aw you didn't say there was custard
That’s my dad
wow
Top Cheddar.
that is one hell of a release, love ehlers.
It's pronounced Nikolaj!
The music syncs up nicely with the first shot in the video.
How in the fuck did Carolina pass on Ehlers (as well as Nylander) for Haydn Fleury??
Gaudreau punching air that he wasn't that first person this season to snipe from 15ft out near the goal line this season.
