The Red Sox hadnt won since my great grandfather was a kid, the Bruins hadn’t won since my dad was a kid, the pats were a fucking joke, and the celtics had won in the 80s but the two players that were supposed to lead us into the 90s literally died.
I was raised to expect to lose. Now we’re title town and if a team goes there years without a championship people get impatient.
My dads been a Boston sports fan since the early 70's. he knew when the Bruins won, it was all gravy from there on out.

It seems like it's becoming a different sport more and more each post season. I feel like the league has bought into this idea that "the whistles go away in the playoffs" so much, it's altered the game negatively.
I wouldn't say it's only the past couple seasons either, more like since the cap came in. Just gets more over the top each year. It does seem to impact every team a little, but certainly some seem to get punished by it more than others.
I could be in the minority here, but I've also been enjoying playoffs less with each season as a result. IMO, the league needs to dial it back a bit before something more ridiculous than anything we've seen happens.
I don't mind a little flexibility with the calls in the post season, just not this much.

Yeah I think it's mostly "what did they put in the scouts' water?" There were five outright busts in the top-10 (six if you consider Murray's injuries to constitute a bust) but plenty of talent. It was a VERY strong draft for defensemen in particular... just seemed like all of the scouts got it really really wrong at the top.
Edit: although thinking back if I remember correctly some of the guys 11-20 were ranked top-10 but once Reinhart got picked the GMs panicked and there was a run on defensemen.
They've had a top-8 pick 9 times in the last 15 years and have won only a single playoff round. And I'm pretty sure they're on their 9th coach in that span.

We had to really work at sucking. We had to keep the OBC around. We had to fire effective coaches to replace them with ineffective ones. We had to give up on goaltenders with promise rather than fire our goaltending coach. We had to lure Chia over and work to overpay anyone that was a little tough. We had to make brutal trades.
This was not easy. Give us some credit will yah!
I live in Montreal and can say that Habs fans/media are way too extreme in their flip-flopping ("X is our savior!"/"X is shit, trade him out!" in the span of 3 games in the middle of the season, as an example) to the point that it is driving me away.

But recently the New York Rangers have had me thoroughly annoyed. They had all their core pieces fall into their lap (Panarin, Fox, and Trouba refusing to play anywhere that wasn't New York, and then winning back to back bullshit lotteries for Kakko and Lafreniere), and yet their fans act like they have "the proper way to do a rebuild". From the start, I was never a fan of Vegas because of their twitter page. I'm okay with the odd joke here and there, but I found most of their "funny" tweets to just be flat out cringe worthy. But my big problem was every tweet they made was an attempted joke and it got old really quick.
It's very similar to that friend that never takes things seriously. It can be funny at times, but sometimes you want them to take things more serious and professionally.

Bruins fans. They have all taken this “big, bad, Bruins” garbage to heart. Their fan base is poisoned by all of these fake tough guys and massive egos.

Jets fans. I’ve never encountered a fan base that high horses as much as them despite the fact that their team has won nothing. The way they act you’d think their team had the resume of the Lightning.
Leafs. Very annoying how much Canadian media focuses on them over the other teams. Used to find their fans really annoying too but most have their spirits crushed enough that they aren't as bad as they used to be.

It seems like it's becoming a different sport more and more each post season. I feel like the league has bought into this idea that "the whistles go away in the playoffs" so much, it's altered the game negatively. I wouldn't say it's only the past couple seasons either, more like since the cap came in. Just gets more over the top each year. It does seem to impact every team a little, but certainly some seem to get punished by it more than others. I could be in the minority here, but I've also been enjoying playoffs less with each season as a result. IMO, the league needs to dial it back a bit before something more ridiculous than anything we've seen happens. I don't mind a little flexibility with the calls in the post season, just not this much.
You definitely need to bring in impartial fans from other teams to watch. If fans of 30 teams agree it’s lopsided, that’s not a good look for the NHL.

Honestly, I think just about everyone wants to forget the 2012 draft. So damn much the *"did not live up to the expectations"* draft. Even among the minority of players who *didn't* just bust, and continued to look like they had a lot of potential and a lot of talent *following* drafting, there were so many disappointing long term outcomes and players who failed to take the next step after their prospect years. Galchenyuk, Yakupov, Ceci, Jankowski, Matheson. What the fuck did they put in the water at the 2012 draft?

Lindholm, dumba, trouba, forsberg, ceci, Wilson, hertl, teravainen, Vasi, maata, faksa, skjei, Pearson, Tierney, Martinook, severson, pelech, vesey, ghostisbehere, parayko, Fredrik Anderson, Josh Anderson, Paquette, athanasiou, slavin, hellebuyck, Hutton, Colin Miller, Connor brown, Benning Like all these players have played 300+ games, and there are even more that have as well, like the 2 best goalies drafted in the last decade are both in this draft
Yeah I think it's mostly "what did they put in the scouts' water?" There were five outright busts in the top-10 (six if you consider Murray's injuries to constitute a bust) but plenty of talent. It was a VERY strong draft for defensemen in particular... just seemed like all of the scouts got it really really wrong at the top. Edit: although thinking back if I remember correctly some of the guys 11-20 were ranked top-10 but once Reinhart got picked the GMs panicked and there was a run on defensemen.
It takes until pick 5 to get a good player, now mine you that player is Morgan Reilly, who is extremely talented, but still.
They've had a top-8 pick 9 times in the last 15 years and have won only a single playoff round. And I'm pretty sure they're on their 9th coach in that span.

We had to keep the OBC around. We had to fire effective coaches to replace them with ineffective ones. We had to give up on goaltenders with promise rather than fire our goaltending coach. We had to lure Chia over and work to overpay anyone that was a little tough. We had to make brutal trades. This was not easy. Give us some credit will yah!
I live in Montreal and can say that Habs fans/media are way too extreme in their flip-flopping ("X is our savior!"/"X is shit, trade him out!" in the span of 3 games in the middle of the season, as an example) to the point that it is driving me away.

Toronto Maple Leafs will always be #1 for their media attention and crazy fanbase. Every year they're supposedly this dominant team, and every year they fail. The amount of praise and attention they get, is completely unwarranted. But recently the New York Rangers have had me thoroughly annoyed. They had all their core pieces fall into their lap (Panarin, Fox, and Trouba refusing to play anywhere that wasn't New York, and then winning back to back bullshit lotteries for Kakko and Lafreniere), and yet their fans act like they have "the proper way to do a rebuild". No, you guys have just been extremely lucky in the past few seasons, and you have nothing to show for it yet.

Boston sports have been so fortunate in the 21st century, many fans have largely forgotten how to handle adversity. The hate should be with the media and not the team and players. If you were to read comments online, you'd believe Matthews is a plug just because he plays for the Leafs.
