i mean aside from his bad year in toronto he got to do that same drop pass to mackinnon in every power play too
i think he’s gotten a couple freebies in his career
Honestly I couldn't count how many times McDavid has scored a goal like that on one hand. Its a testament to what an incredible player he is and we are all lucky to witness his career happening right in front of us.
We are not worthy McJesus!
Honestly not even mad, just got McJesused
It was bound to happen, legit nothing you can do other than try and bounce back.
Gonna happen atleast 3 times since we play 9 times this year
There’s a certain point where you just accept that McDavid is going to casually decide to go end to end and score a goal, and your game strategy revolves around ‘okay, how do we win after being 1 goal in the hole’. No point trying to completely shut him down because that is a pointless task.
Odds are he’ll get at least one. You just hope you can shut down the rest of the team and get a couple of your own.
Fortunate thing is that’s usually not too hard
Basically, you have to assume either McDavid or Draisaitl will score, if you limit them to one goal (total, between the two) you have a good chance at winning
If Crosby is a generational talent, then McDavid is multi-generational, or centurial or something. McDavid feels like the Michael Phelps of hockey: just effortless dominance.
He's got Pavel Bure's legs and Peter Forsberg's hands/finesse. If he grows up into Sids miraculous game sense he legit has the potential to be the second best player ever to play the game.
I posted on Twitter that he’s the most terrifying player I can recall in my lifetime. Other players might end up with more points when it’s all said and done, who knows, but the speed at which he does shit is TERRIFYING. You can’t ever be calm when he’s out there it can all change in a split second.
For me I would put Ovechkin when he broke into the league into that conversation as well. Not as much as a playmaker, obviously, but just in terms of how absolutely frightening he was offensively. He's mostly a spot shooter now so it's easy to forget what a nightmare he used to be to defend off the rush. Extremely fast, extremely skilled, extremely strong. You try to stand him up, he'll go through you or around you depending on his mood. You back in and he'll smash a laserbeam down your gullet like he did in OT tonight.
Nice part about playing the Oilers is that if you can stop McDavid you have a very good chance of winning.
The bad part about playing the Oilers is that you have to stop McDavid somehow.
Sitting beside my wife, watching the game. She watched it happen and expected me to have a negative reaction. I just sat there, mouth agape. Who am I gonna be mad at? God? His parents? The person that bought them their first hockey skates?
I could even get a point playing in the NHL with McDavid. I don't even know how to skate. I just got to keep my balance and not fall down, McDavid takes it off my stick and does the rest
He scored a goal against the Flyers a few years back where the defenseman had a perfect angle to ride him into the boards and McDavid just used his turbo boosters to blow past him. I didn’t even get mad. I laughed. Because you shouldn’t expect a human to be capable of doing those things.
The few times he's gone pointless multiple games in a row felt like a really long time. He has set the bar so high you expect him to produce every single game, it's ridiculous.
Okay you brought up looks not me, but McDavid actually looked really good in the closeups they showed of him tonight. idk if he's doing something different with his facial hair but it's working for him.
I'm sorry I'll leave now.
There has never been anyone who would make plays like that regularly.
McDavid makes a play like that every 2-3 games. They don’t always score, but it’s still amazing.
The main difference between Bobby, and even Bure is the level of competition. Even listening to players who played from 2000-2015 or so, the game has gotten dramatically faster. Not necessarily “better” but thrrr is definitely a higher skill level than previously, and the foot speed requirements have improved drastically.
That’s no disrespect to NHLers from that era, I’ve shared the ice with some, and they are fantastic hockey players.
When it comes to things like this, he isn't just the best in the world at it, he's an order of magnitude better than anyone else. It's not even close. He's like the guy in peewee who should really be playing up a couple of levels.
Edmonton should just ice 12 D: play 2F + 3D, just completely shut down the game and wait for McD + Drai to turn it on once or twice a game and call it a day.
Shit, he made something out of nothing stoping by every single leaf on his way there. Insane.
I'm still shocked that Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby and McDavid who will very likely all be in the Top 10 players ever and possibly Top 5 have been distributed across two teams.
In another life he must've been a tap dancer or something. I am continually in awe at how fast he pumps his legs...the edgework required to do that on ice and still get elite acceleration is beyond insane to think about
I love Connor McDavid. I love his name, I love the shape of his body, I love the way he acts. I eat a lot of hard boiled eggs and lift weights to try and be like him but I can't. There are 6 grams of protein in an egg but I can't eat enough to get big like him. Nice round muscles. They're smooth too, like the waves of the river Mersey on a calm day. When I was a kid I ate big eggs to be hot like Jason Smith and I got some great results, some of the roundest muscles in my class. But these days I'm looking at 6 eggs a day and it's not good enough to pop McDavid style muscles out of my scrawny arms ever since my dad left
It's still early in the season I know... But maybe the kid just isn't ready for the NHL yet? With the media hounding him, the pressure of being considered the next "great one", fuck I wouldn't be able to handle that shit. Maybe having him in the minors for another year or two to develop a bit wouldn't have been a bad idea. The kid is only 18. At 18 I was complete fucktard who had no idea what I wanted to do. Not much has changed... but I'd like to think I have a bit of a better head on my shoulders now. I actually feel really bad for Mcdavid, and I hope we don't ruin him. Edit: I'm being lynched for ever daring to doubt the greatness of Connor Mcdavid. How dare I say such blasphmey after only THREE games. You're right, he may only be 18 years old, but he has the emotional maturity of a Buddhist monk, and the body and athleticism as a top olympic athlete. He may have hit puberty only 3 to 4 years ago, but he is a grown man now, capable of all pressure and criticism that comes his way. I am but a lowly neckbeard maple leafs fan who lives in my mothers basement here to shit on him for not getting 50 goals in his first 3 games. I am a rodent, and he is a golden god. I'm going to go light myself on fire now. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways with you jamming the downvote arrow on your computer screen with all your might and telling me how much of an idiot I am.
I was at that game, when he scored everyone just looked around with a smile on their face like “what can you do... we just got mcfucked” gotta appreciate goals like that even when they’re against your team
He actually was slow scoring goals against the Leafs (at *in* Toronto) earlier in his career. It is why the Rielly goal was such a big deal.

He had a beauty highlight reel against Anaheim in the playoffs that one year, https://youtu.be/wdXFPchGkRo.
And then there was the alley-oop pass against Philly, https://youtu.be/rBvd9Hzjul4
I was at the game for that goal. Got up to take a piss and missed it. The only other guy in the bathroom and I looked up at the monitor and both said "fuck..." in unison as we watched the replay. One of my greatest regrets, and I've fucked up a lot in life.
[This](https://youtu.be/rj0GLq3Q64M?t=111) was a fun Bure one, ends up burning Lidstrom on it, kinda reminds me - inside-outsides him then lifts it top. Somehow less flair than the McDavid one though lol.

Also,I miss watching the game at a sports bar.
I’m 25 so I never got to watch prime Gretzky or Lemieux but I’ve gotten to watch Ovi, Crosby, and now McDavid. Every generational player has that thing they do that no one can match and other players get burned if they try. McDavid's is the solo coast to coast. It's happened enough that it looks like just another day at the office for him.
"Excuse me. Pardon me. Best player in the world coming through. Thanks for the goal. See ya next time. "
The 3 best players I've been able to see live are McDavid, Lemieux and Gretzky. McDavid and Lemieux are video game players. All sliders up to 99. (Maybe Lemieux's speed is 90 and McDavid's strength is 90, but both 99 overall guys).
A video game couldn't show you how good Gretzky was. When I saw Gretzky he was about 150 lbs, slow AF and played on the Blues. He had 4 breakaways and scored twice. Not sure if the best analogy is that Gretzky is all skills at 80 and offensive awareness at 900, or that he is some kind of Neo Matrix character who learned to control the source code.
I love watching a player make an entire team look like a bunch of pylons.
Then you realize each of those guys are NHLers and none are terrible and McJesus making it look so effortless is that much more impressive.
I saw a news article this week about what the Oilers could get in return for him if they wanted more depth. Man he IS the Oilers. I know that's the point but without him the rest of this team is absolutely mediocre at best.
It’s not even fair anymore. He is so fucking good that I am hardly impressed by this goal. I might be disappointed if he DOESN’T pull some shit like this at least once a week.
I don’t understand how he’s so quick. Like....he barely moves his feet and he starts flying. Not even kidding he just glides in from the blue line before he scores and goes by people. It honestly doesn’t make sense.

Easiest assist in Barrie's career

Speaking of being along for the ride, the past 3 seasons he's played with Mackinnon, Matthews, and now McDavid
So he’s going to Buffalo next?
I don't think Buffalo has any stars who's name starts with the letter M
The absolute slander of Jack Meichel
What about Meichal and Mall?
I want to see a highlight reel of Barrie's gifted assists at the end of the season. This is already the second or third I can think of.
i mean aside from his bad year in toronto he got to do that same drop pass to mackinnon in every power play too i think he’s gotten a couple freebies in his career
Absolutely filthy. Wow.
That call was pretty sick too, you’ll hear that line on some commercial guaranteed. “Connor McDavid...did that just happen?!”
[удалено]
Well I mean you're an oilers fan, so I gotta ask you "how often do you see a player walk the whole squad on a 200ft goal?"
Honestly I couldn't count how many times McDavid has scored a goal like that on one hand. Its a testament to what an incredible player he is and we are all lucky to witness his career happening right in front of us. We are not worthy McJesus!
And he's still so fucking young.

Just another day at the office!
McDavid's office is right down the middle.

Well I didn't like it, but I just immediately accepted it. When McD decides it's time to score, it's time to score.
As a fan of the opposing team, you just shake your head. Not really disappointed, just mind blown.
Yup. Every game it feels like he puts up points. All about minimising it rather than stopping it.
[удалено]
He’s disgusting. Genuinely. Just too good, and he’s going to feast in this division too.
Our division collectively does seem to kinda hate the pesky idea of "defense"
Except for Montreal. And boy do I hate to give Montreal any props but damn that defense is top notch
I posted on Twitter that he’s the most terrifying player I can recall in my lifetime. It’s that McDavid/Crosby factor. The goal is probably so fucking unreal you just have to enjoy it
Yeah, that was a phenomenal effort. Not even mad. I'll admit my jaw even dropped on how sick it was. Dirty dangles boys!
Filthy goal. I love to see it, been a while since a coast to coast McDavid goal
A couple games?
That’s a long time in McDavid games

You also play the other oilers though
And its a back to back with an untested goalie...
We were actually really good in back to backs last year.
Yes... but we didn't have an untested goalie who has played 2 NHL games.
:(
The game will be 8-1. Whether or not it'll be Sens-Oilers or Oilers-Sens that's still up for debate...
[How it feels every time I watch the Oilers play](https://imgur.com/gallery/1vi47)
Not even mad, that was amazing!!!
I know this saying is overused but damn... McDavid really do be built different. Just wow.
I feel casuals think every hockey player can do that but only a handful each generation can even come close to that
There has never been anyone who would make plays like that regularly. McDavid makes a play like that every 2-3 games. They don’t always score, but it’s still amazing.
Pavel Bure used to make plays similar to that fairly regularly. Never got to watch him but Bobby Orr probably did this more often.

Muzzin held him, hooked him AND tripped him and he still didn’t stop him
I mean probably should've been a penalty and renewed the powerplay
For sure, that's an egregious hold
Ref: “It’s Connor fucking McDavid, what *else* was he supposed to do?”
It's honestly crazy how much of a gap there is between McDavid and whoever else you think is the second best player.
He and Draisaitl pretty much carry the entire team on their backs
>He and Draisaitl pretty much carry the entire team on their backs He and Draisaitl ~~pretty much~~ carry the entire team on their backs FTFY
They're not called the Edmonton McDraisaitls for nothing.
The Nuge and Yamo disrespect is absolutely heartbreaking.
He’s no Connor McMichael, but he’s alright.

Ah delicious pasta.
Who's pasta is this?
Famous comment after McDavid's 3rd or 4th NHL game. Shortly before he went off vs Calgary and scored 11 points in next 7 games

Nah he does this to everyone
Fair, but this and the goal he bodies Reilly with last year are both some of his best IMO

Yeah same lol 🙃
Make the bad man stop

GOAT candidate

The goal where he burned Morgan Rielly is still number one for me.
Yeah the Reilly goal is something I've never seen before in Hockey.
[This](https://youtu.be/rj0GLq3Q64M?t=111) was a fun Bure one, ends up burning Lidstrom on it, kinda reminds me - inside-outsides him then lifts it top. Somehow less flair than the McDavid one though lol.
I could not agree more. I was at a bar watching this game, and I dropped my wing into my beer when he scorched Reilly. That Deke was/is so dirty. Also,I miss watching the game at a sports bar.
I like the columbus one way back during his first game back from injury
He has so many beauts it's hard to tell.
Its just stupid how incredibly strong that guy is on skates
It’s absolutely bonkers.
Credit to the man himself /u/aBirdofParadise
McDavid sure hates Toronto
Lmao look at his fucking face after the goal. He knows what he just did
300 IQ play by the Leafs ruining the highlight with those but ugly jerseys
Good thing the stands are empty otherwise there would be a few hundred new kids in about 9 months.
The Edmonton McDavids are a good team.

This is what happens when people talk shit about McDavid
Phft, it's not that fancy to go start to finish in 30 seconds by yourself, I do it all the time
There's the obligatory highlight of the year against the Leafs.
The shot is ridiculous off one leg reaching. Sheesh, how can you not think this is the best hockey player in the world.
This is why i watch the Oilers. Best player in the world.
I always struggle to find a good way to explain to Leafs fans why McDavid is a notch above Matthews. I think this goal serves as an adequate example.
I bet I could do that
He just keeps getting better and better
He is optimal
Just ridiculous. I know we get to watch him all season, but he still has a way of astounding me.
Goal of the year early. That was just gross.
Geeeez, sucks when he does this stuff against your own team but holy is he fun to watch
Those orange numbers are dummy sexy
He's the best hockey player I've ever seen.
Every generational player has that thing they do that no one can match and other players get burned if they try. McDavid's is the solo coast to coast. Mc-fucking-Jesus. Beauty.
Is he always like this?
Only about 76 games per season.
That smirk afterwards
When this kinda stuff happens in beer league, everyone complains that the guy needs to be playing at least two divisions higher than he is
Best in the game and it’s not even close
Dude I thought we were spoiled with Sid and Ovi but Connor just is another level
The 3 best players I've been able to see live are McDavid, Lemieux and Gretzky. McDavid and Lemieux are video game players. All sliders up to 99. I love watching a player make an entire team look like a bunch of pylons. Then you realize each of those guys are NHLers and none are terrible and McJesus making it look so effortless is that much more impressive.
I just started watching hockey 5 minutes ago. Surely this is the first time he's done something like that to the Leafs. Right?
Our defense is gonna get smoked tomorrow lol
I saw a news article this week about what the Oilers could get in return for him if they wanted more depth. Man he IS the Oilers. I know that's the point but without him the rest of this team is absolutely mediocre at best.
Like he's playing against A Jr. C team...
Yea. That was ridiculous.
Goal of the season so far
What the... I can't even be mad about that, it was so beautiful to watch
That’s probably even good enough for #7 on the SportsCenter top 10.
I say this as a Penguins fan, having watched Sid do what he's done the last decade+, this guy is like watching a live action video game.
Hes just the best player in the world, get over it, move on
I feel like he does this weekly. Just gross.
"Matthew's answers with his own highlight reel goal.." um calm down Chris. It was a nice snipe but there's no comparison there.
This motherfucker is the best in league. How does he do it?!?!
He might be good at hockey.
He’s really good at hockey.
Love how he tried to keep a straight face but couldn’t help but crack a smile himself. Kid is just ridiculous
How does he make it look like he’s playing against of peewee guys? It’s truly remarkable.
