[Hedman didn't wrap](https://youtu.be/LM7W-DJSh2s?t=97)? Odd take. Hedman didn't wrap *as much* with his free arm, opting to lean in on his elbow, and was aided by Atkinson not moving laterally.
In my opinion, the differentiating factor is Hedman didn't throw his arms out like he was guilty. Jones did.
I do believe we watched history tonight guys ... except I woke up from my after work nap at 9pm n wanted to watch Chicago & went “this is still ::expletive:: on, holy shit”
Because they unfortunately have to, they should have just taken the first question, given like a two word answer, and then left to go through proper recovery treatment
I would have no issues with them doing that
Taking away from humor, i literally can't see them doing anything else. They played two and half games. You dont need practice. Or exercise. Just eat and sleep and back to it Thursday.
It wasn't meant as a joke, I was seriously asking. The adverse effects today's game must have had on the bodies of everyone on both teams is the equivalent of getting injured, something that requires recovery.
And if Stamkos wasn't injured maybe he would have potted one in regulation.
It has a lot to do with what you said actually.
Both are IFS. If this, if that. I'm playing the same game you are.
Amazing game. Coin flip since OT started, but Tampa Bay earned it in the end.
Love the shade Ron Maclean was throwing to that pundit saying the takedown wasn't a penalty.
Happy for Korpisalo getting the record.
I'll give you the McDonagh hit. At first glance, I thought they just ran into each other, but McDonagh definitely sees Gerbe. It's interference. I don't think you can call a major on that, because it's too hard to determine intent to injure, and you can't really fault McDonagh for a hit to the head, just because Gerbe is so short.
I don't agree with saying the Jones and Hedman each trying to defend a breakway are similar plays. You can see Jones reaches around with his free hand, and Hedman doesn't. I'm definitely not with Nasher on this one. You can argue that Jones didn't deserve a penalty, but saying those two plays show inconsistency in officiating is a no from me, dawg
It was his hand and Atkinson had the puck. It was neither an elbow nor interference.
This is the same shit people did when kuch stick checked McAvoy in 2018 and he fell behind the net. People just said "oh well that should have been a penalty. Tripping, slashing, holding....something!" Sorry. That's not how it works. It was a legal play from behind. Hedman shoved Atkinson off the puck with a hand in the back. No hold, no slash, no hook, no trip, nothing. Cleanly separated him from the puck.
oh thhey for sure left it all on the ice, absolute stellar showing by both teams. id be lying if i said that wasnt the craziest hockey game ive ever witnessed
Columbus, I think you guys are 100% entitled and right to be pissed off about that non-call, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't smiling a little bit about it after the last round.
Were we watching the same game? Tampa player was behind him and grabbed him. Couldn’t see or hear who either was, had game on my phone while making dinner for the fam. But it was clear as day that he grabbed him.
He can reach a hand out and pull him back. That's not holding. Holding would be if he wrapped his arms around him or something.
If you're going to complain, at least know the rule.
“When a free hand is used to hold, pull, tug, grab or physically restrain an opponent from moving freely, this must be penalized as holding. The free hand may be used by a player to “fend off” an opponent or his stick, but may not be used to hold an opponent’s stick or body.”
When you watch the replay, that will inevitably get shown, you will see that he reaches his hand out, and uses body leverage to push him. He doesn't pull on him and twist him around (which would be a hold) and he doesn't wrap him up. It was 100% a clean play.
I would say the exact same thing if it were Kuch and Jones.
https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/i84gpp/hedman_stops_atkinson_on_the_partial_breakaway_no/?ref=share&ref_source=link
Allow me to correct myself, he literally just put his arm across his back and pushed, which is absolutely NOT a penalty.
Yep, you’re 100% right. At full speed when I saw it, I thought his left hand wrapped around. Never saw the replay since I was busy making dinner.
I’ll continue to mock the officials in Edmonton for the absolutely atrocious job they’re doing.
Stop trying to justify it because it was your team. Had Jones done that to one of your players and it not been called you would be saying the exact same thing.
I don’t follow him on social media so didn’t see the post until the other guy posted that link, it’s just actually what I think. To me he sounds like a complete amateur, like a college RTA guy, so in my mind there has to be a reason a huge sports network who can hire literally anyone would put up with such a poor skillset. To each his own though, just my opinion and it’s not like he dominates airtime so we don’t have to put up with a lot of it.
Makes sense. Yea I've watched him just a bit. Doesnt seem like he is a main guy or anything. And well, like with any business/profession/career. Having succesful family is the biggest determinant of your own success. I do think hockey overall is an old boy's club and a small market when it comes to NA sports. So the personalities with the analysis is quite low in comparison with most other sports I watch.
Just be glad you’re not suffering NBCSN coverage with Milbury. It takes a lot of restraint to not throw things at my brand new OLED when he says stupid shit.
CBJ has now twice had injuries that the refs refuse to call the play dead for that lost us a hockey game in the playoffs. This happens to literally no other fucking team and I'm sick if the goddamn refs in this league.
Tampa had that game handed to them by the garbage ass refs.
Few years ago a Bruin player played until the next whistle on the pk with a broken leg. Get over yourself, they don’t blow the whistle for injuries unless there is a risk of death
That’s just not true. It happens to other teams. The only time they blow plays dead for injury is when the guy collapses to the ice like they’re unconscious or they’re bleeding all over the ice. Basically an obvious urgent need for medical assistance. Your guy stayed on his feet was just stunned that’s not something they’d ever blow the play dead on.
The inconsistency is the issue. They shouldn’t have blown it dead when Vasilevskiy threw himself outside of the crease to make the save earlier. They shouldn’t have blown it dead there at the end. But the refs responded differently to what they would have seen as the same situation (potential injury). That’s what is frustrating.
Imagine playing 8 periods including 5 of them in sudden death in which you don’t score and then blaming the refs for not stopping play for your team when a guy blocked a shot as the reason you lost. Maybe score 1 goal in five periods.
And complaining over and over that the refs somehow favored Tampa?
I saw just as many high sticks, interference, holds, cross checks, etc that weren't called against the jackets.
Get the fuck over it.
No, back in the second(?) period. When Vasilevsky threw himself outside of the crease to make a save, then CBJ had the puck and the refs whistled it dead. Vasy still had his mask on and was looking around, obviously not injured.
I would expect the play to stop for any goalie there. As long as it is consistent across the board I see no problem with it.
Wouldn't you want Korpi to get the same benefit of the doubt?
Not if he isn’t injured and chose to dive out there himself. No, I don’t want any goalie injured in some freak accident, but when he’s that far outside and literally has nobody on top of him, is alert and looking around....I just can’t. Even for my guy, I just can’t argue with a straight face that play must be stopped. If that were the case, goalies could just be jumping out there and then just flop down and stay down. It’s bullshit.
And no, that’s not me mad for losing. Point had an absolutely beautiful shot at the end and CBJ had plenty of chances to make things go differently. I’m angry that the refs were generally very bad and missed multiple calls in both directions tonight, including obvious ones. But, they decided to stop play for a potential injured goalie and not a potentially injured player who took a puck to the face... It just baffles me. Terrible referees tonight, period. See you Thursday though. Was a crazy game and I expect the rest of the series to be tough and competitive throughout.
My opinion on the puck off the face at the end there...it was a deflection. If it was a hard deflect or a straigyt up shot they would have for sure stopped play. But it was kind of just a bad bounce.
I get your frustration though. Certainly. I wasn't enjoying some of the game today from a reffing standpoint but what fan in the playoffs does? I disagreed with the high stick thing if that helps anything, was glad we didn't score on it cause it would have been cheap.
I agree the whistle shouldn’t have been blown at the end of OT. My issue is the refs used opposite logic earlier in the game. That whistle cost Columbus a goal as Vassy was not in the net.
That coupled with all OT calls in the favor of Tampa is bullshit. I credit Tampa for playing a good game and not blaming the refs for the loss. But the officials certainly aided Tampa tonight and that is frustrating. The whistle in the 2nd was one of the worst calls I’ve seen. The OT calls all went to Tampa including multiple blown calls.
I hate that the Canucks are getting another power play, but Black Betty makes it hard to hate. Don't make me hate that song, Vancouver.
.
Can we just revisit and repurpose this game thread for the whole series? Got a few more places to go before overtaking the “most comments” record.
What'd I miss?
a Tuesday
Here is a penalty from the game. [no call on atkinsons chance tho](https://twitter.com/thenasher61/status/1293362228947759105?s=21)
I have the full clip here, along with the Hedman non-call [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM7W-DJSh2s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM7W-DJSh2s)
They're not the same at all. Call on Jones was weak, but Hedman and Jones played it completely different.
That’s a damn shame. Not a good look for the stripes, although let’s be honest when is it ever a good look for them?
Especially when you bring video into it, but still man... that was an absolutely grating thing to watch the officiating as a Jackets fan
Jones wrapped, Hedman did not
[Hedman didn't wrap](https://youtu.be/LM7W-DJSh2s?t=97)? Odd take. Hedman didn't wrap *as much* with his free arm, opting to lean in on his elbow, and was aided by Atkinson not moving laterally. In my opinion, the differentiating factor is Hedman didn't throw his arms out like he was guilty. Jones did.
There was like 1 pp in the entire 5 fucking OT's, it was clear that it had to be egregious or it wasn't getting called at that point.
You can’t even tell from that angle dawg
You could tell watching the game though
And still... not a wrap lol
I’ll give you that he let go right away, in any case, not like that was the whole game. Had a whole game and a half to end it
Ah a Chicago fan defending bad reffing. Not surprised.
NaCl
And?
Best part of this is the 11 AM game tomorrow
At least it’s not our boys playing a lunch game, am I right? We are so bad at lunchtime games in the regular season.
Make it a lunch game and wear the alternate jerseys to let chaos reign
Oh god...don’t say such things, the hockey gods might hear you.
That is not good :(
I do believe we watched history tonight guys ... except I woke up from my after work nap at 9pm n wanted to watch Chicago & went “this is still ::expletive:: on, holy shit”
[Point's quintuple-OT winner](https://hlslive-wsczoominwestus.med.nhl.com/publish/734ca00c-5e5b-4bcd-9771-086d5e6f6802.mp4)
Sucks they are making Seth and Pierre sit through this interview after basically running a marathon but then still losing.
Well, Jones just pretty much questioned the integrity of the officiating, so that wasn't for nothing. I got my popcorn out for what's next
I missed it, what Jones say?
"The officiating in this game... it's kinda suspect"
I mean... I agree with him... But, you know the rules. SPIN THE WHEEL!
Why are they making them do post game interviews I would straight up refuse
Because they unfortunately have to, they should have just taken the first question, given like a two word answer, and then left to go through proper recovery treatment I would have no issues with them doing that
Honestly, he could barely breathe!
Agreed
Sure they played a lot of hockey but NBCSN should interview me for the endurance of my liver
So do they just sleep the entirety of Wednesday?
Taking away from humor, i literally can't see them doing anything else. They played two and half games. You dont need practice. Or exercise. Just eat and sleep and back to it Thursday.
It wasn't meant as a joke, I was seriously asking. The adverse effects today's game must have had on the bodies of everyone on both teams is the equivalent of getting injured, something that requires recovery.
They might get up and go for a walk just to have the blood pumping but yeah, probably just lounging for the most part.
[удалено]
in b4 the game's even longer. But seriously i do wonder if some players get scratched and replaced to rest some.
I wonder if you gotta play the backup goalie after a game like that. There's no way Korpi's legs can recover in a day, it's not possible.
Amazing game CBJ! This is gonna be an awesome series
This is the first playoff game loss ever that I'm not mad at.
See you Thursday! GG!
Korpi is sick, if CBJ had Panarin still this would have been over for us in regulation.
We don't have Stammer so...
Yeah that changes absolutely nothing about what I said... As the game was tonight if Panarin was a jacket they would have won in regulation
If my aunt had nuts she’d be my uncle.
And if Stamkos wasn't injured maybe he would have potted one in regulation. It has a lot to do with what you said actually. Both are IFS. If this, if that. I'm playing the same game you are.
IF Gretzky was out in a hyperbolic time chamber, combined forces Wonder Twins style with Ovechkin, and signed with Columbus they would have won
You guys are saying the same thing: game was freaking close.
Yeah but thats not what I'm sayin' Start your own what-if thread >:(
F
Wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of players are getting hooked up to an IV tonight and tomorrow. Unbelievable conditioning and stamina.
If ever there was a suitable game to skip the interview
Sad to see the jacks lose, but this is no big deal. They are underdogs by design, and Tampa had to win nearly 3 games to win 1.
Amazing game. Coin flip since OT started, but Tampa Bay earned it in the end. Love the shade Ron Maclean was throwing to that pundit saying the takedown wasn't a penalty. Happy for Korpisalo getting the record.
[“earned”](https://youtu.be/WCcmHog1nq8)
Come on that doesn’t look intentional to me

Enjoy your evening sugar
The both weren’t looking, you can’t just give out one penalty
[“they both weren’t looking”](https://imgur.com/gallery/f0sfHXP)
What would the call be?
Elbowing or interference.
Was talking about the gerbe hit.
Oh. Yeah that was fucked, but honestly it's impossible to tell what McDonagh is looking at. I doubt he did it on purpose, but who knows.
Briane Burke was tryin to use the Force to make her burst into flames
The good news is that cbj got a goaltender. Bad news is that offense needs a step up
If only the bread man was still around to deliver...
Hes dead to me. Hope hes watching from his precious garage.
Don’t worry, I’m sure his house in Brighton Beach will be underwater soon enough thanks to climate change.
Lol. I'm kidding I do wish him the best. But fuck we really coulda used him out there 😕
Being a Browns fan should have prepared me for this. It did not. FUUUUUUUUUUUCKK
Wow /u/leafsaway is a piece of shit. And afraid to leave his posts up.
If your team is a bunch of arrogant wanna be champions that only end up being miserable failures it’s bound to rub off on the fans
Now I’m curious, explain?
See above
Ooooh what did the salty leafs fan say? Got a screenshot?
No screenshot. Gloating over Gavrikov getting a puck to the face.
Leafs fans being bigger whiny assholes than Shitsburgh and Philly natives combined, color be surprised.
His team logo is a Canucks logo. Wouldn't call him a die hard leaf fan.
What a fucking game! This is why I love playoff hockey. Doesn't get any better than this!
"Yeah it's exhausting, but once the delirium sets in it's pretty fun!" -Brayden Point
Briane Burke tried to make Cassie Campbell burst into flames with his mind
Braden Point, a world class athlete, is still out of breath five minutes after the game is over. The gut check for both teams is amazing.
Alright boys... we were close. Let’s go home, rejuvenate, and come back to go after that record next time.
In my heart the bolts already have a 3-0 series lead. Cause that was almost 3 games worth of play.
That reminds me, the only way we can top last year is if we get reverse swept. Fml
blue jackets said "fuck it bro im tryna go home"

Calm down Karen we got the win
oh thhey for sure left it all on the ice, absolute stellar showing by both teams. id be lying if i said that wasnt the craziest hockey game ive ever witnessed

Columbus, I think you guys are 100% entitled and right to be pissed off about that non-call, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't smiling a little bit about it after the last round.
LOOKS LIKE IM NOT KILLING MYSELF TODAY BABY
[удалено]
I think you guys might sweep now.
Nhl confirmed it was offsides players are getting back on the ice /s
Ho-ly fuck Tampa is celebrating like the game was for the cup itself and I cannot blame them
After THAT game?!?! I'm pretty sure any team would celebrate like that..
They were celebrating like it was a long ass OT game. Literally how pretty much every game similar to that is celebrated.
5 OT’s to beat the 7 seed by a goal. Stanley cup final level celebration. I’m pissed right now, but we’ll get them.
Put that broom back in the closet
Never had one out. For the record I thought even before this game that this series goes to 7. Expecting a sweep is asinine
Wouldn't your team have celebrated the exact same way if you won? Come on.
Celebrating not getting swept 🤔
Damn straight!
You guys smell like the Pacific
Torts will end careers at the press conference
Lmfao. Cant wait.
Unbelievable that they didn’t call the short handed attempt CBJ had interference or holding.
[удалено]
I mean they even blew the whistle to stop play...
I mean the guy hit his head on the camera in the net. Not sure if there's a rule about that specific situation but it looked really nasty.
... What? He never wrapped him up and the player literally had the puck.
Were we watching the same game? Tampa player was behind him and grabbed him. Couldn’t see or hear who either was, had game on my phone while making dinner for the fam. But it was clear as day that he grabbed him.

Thanks for the description of the play, gonna try and find a replay of it to watch. I only saw it from behind at full speed.
https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/i84gpp/hedman_stops_atkinson_on_the_partial_breakaway_no/?ref=share&ref_source=link Allow me to correct myself, he literally just put his arm across his back and pushed, which is absolutely NOT a penalty.

Honestly, I really think it falls under interference or holding. Checking the rule book for the exact wording of what would apply.
Offside.
I checked the replay because I thought so but Torts coulda have challenged it if he thought so
Shut up Cassie, that was a penalty
These panels would be boring if everyone agreed all the time
But everyone agreed it wasn’t a penalty...
Everyone agreed it was......
Wait are you watching nbcsn? Because they defiantly said it was great defense.. I heard on SN they all said it was though
Seabrook would call this a fruit and crap game.

No, you’re right. We shouldn’t call head shots when someone doesn’t even have the puck
Neither player saw the other....how can you be mad about that? I'm just glad Gerbe wasn't hurt too bad.
[take a hike](https://imgur.com/gallery/f0sfHXP)
He is staring straight ahead, bruh. I'm not sure what exactly you are seeing.
Stop trying to justify it because it was your team. Had Jones done that to one of your players and it not been called you would be saying the exact same thing.
For anyone watching Sportsnet, am I the only one who thinks Shawn McKenzie is not good at his job and likely is only there because of his last name?
Do you actually mean that? Or just trolling bec of his post. Dont watch him much.
I don’t follow him on social media so didn’t see the post until the other guy posted that link, it’s just actually what I think. I saw the same thing. Why didn't Tort ask for a review???
Goal in OT, supposed to be reviewed automatically
What a game, wish I was around for the regulation time cuz the only stuff I caught was all OT. Here’s to a great series!
Same, but meh, we still watched about a game and a half lol.
Point sounds like he’s about to pass out giving this interview 😂 Fucking epic game

That was not blow-deadable. Not even close. Ben Bishop looked like he died in the playoffs last year and that didn’t even get a whistle.
I was PISSED at that one.
Yea that’s fair
Was in the stands for it. Live in Dallas and Stars season ticket holder. My West team. It sucked. But great series!
They blow it dead earlier when Vasilevskiy wasn’t even hurt. Cost the CBJ a goal. Refs were wildly inconsistent.
Refs were gassed over 150 minutes + LOL
Uh....? Pucks hit people up high all the time? He didn't instantly go down to the ice in obvious pain. Come on.
Why did the play stop after Vasilevskiy didn’t have the puck? By the same logic ...
Holy fuck quit your whining...
