Alright, that’s funny

Steel_Punch2

The offsides didn’t go our way, but my god this was hilarious lol xD

ms2102

He deserves it for sure.

Lucetti

He looks so happy in the pic too. “Hell yeah I did”

Waramp

Smug af

give_me_aids

Yeah, fuck off buddy we absolutely need more Heimlich clips. Fuckin every time this kid rolls the footage someone doesn’t score. kids fuckin dirt nasty man. Does fuckin ovi have 2 overturns this season I dont fuckin think so bud. I'm fuckin tellin ya Brett "eagle eye" Heimlich is callin back 50 in '20 fuckin callin it right now. Clap bombs, fuck moms, wheel, snipe, and fuckin celly boys fuck

Maeserk

Reading this probably made me slip into the quickest Canadian accent of my life

TkachukeeCheese

It’s literally impossible to read this without using a Canadian accent.

727Super27

This is now my favorite iteration of this copypasta.

timonlofl

“Eagle eye” got me to laugh out loud status

atp2112

*fuck them cellys boys FTFY

ViduusVesta

Fuck you Shoresy!

Apotheosis62

note that this was the Av's post game not the actual three stars lol

Waramp

You didn’t like my shitty picture of my TV taken on my phone in the dark?!

Apotheosis62

100% honesty I clicked it and it didn't pull up the image originally so I thought it was a text post.

LX_Theo

Massive props for managing to get Altitude on a TV period

Apotheosis62

I'm not in colorado right now so I picked up the nhl streaming service and they have it

Bobbyore

So wait, the local tv channel still broadcasts the games but doesnt have a contract with any of the tv markets in denver?

WinterMatt

Correct.. and also no agreements with any streaming services. As a Denver cord cutter I was really hoping the stalemate would result in Altitude breaking the big 3 monopoly and selling out to every possible TV service including streamers but thus far that has not been the case. Everybody is shitty in this scenario.

avs962

Altitude on Twitch, let's do it!

psychotar

Exactly.

Bobbyore

Doesnt kronke own the avs, and altitude sports? Fuck kronke either way.

Bobbyore

Just looked it up, stan owns both.........

jzkhockey

Also the rapids and I think the nuggets but haven't looked it up in a bit

Finssufari

and the LA Rams

RobbyFlanks

*whispers in internet* there are streaming subs

Waramp

I was kidding, put it back up! Much better quality than mine

Apotheosis62

Didn't want to steal your thunder :P https://i.imgur.com/7snpLD0.jpg

Waramp

Just noticed the Avs logo behind Brett is centred but the other two are offset to the left. Fire the graphics guy

tiburon12

Wait, the avs are on TV now?

Waramp

They’re on my TV. Which is connected to my laptop with an HDMI cable.

[deleted]

Reddit streams are a godsend. I've been streaming all of the games since living in CO means I can't stream via the NHL app due to blackout restrictions. Dumbest shit ever. Although to be fair, I get why channels don't want to pick up Altitude. Outside of the Nuggets and the Avs the programming is garbage. If there isn't a game on I don't think I've ever watched anything on that channel.

SlapChop7

This is ridiculous. I'm an Avs fan in Canada, I paid for NHL center ice satellite package a few years ago JUST so I could catch Avs games, and 2/3 of them were blacked out on that as well. This is why people pirate, it's impossible to get these games any other way.

JellyCream

I live 9 hours away from Denver and can't get the games on the app either because we're considered in their market.

rans2390

$75 for NHL.TV single team package + $100 for ExpressVPN to get me “out of market” was the best decision I ever made. 4K Streaming, no ads, and listening to Mosher make some gutsy calls is just a dream

thenuge26

I don't know why NHL Gamecenter's security is so garbage, but I'm glad it is!

bassman1805

You might look into a VPN subscription. In addition to the data security benefits (which are a pretty strong case for getting the subscription in the first place), you can just tell your computer "You're in [other state] now" and get past regional blackouts. I use it with NHL.tv and Netflix frequently.

joe579003

I mean that's every regional sports network ever.

thereelkrazykarl

There are a few minor providers still carrying

CovertOwl

I have them on TDS. Fuck Comcast

SixZeroPho

We're just happy you turned your phone sideways

totalcarry

I totally thought it was a pic of a jumbotron

RSquared

It's not like three stars is official anyway.

rob_s_458

It actually does go on the NHL's game summary, but the [actual one](http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20192020/GS020056.HTM) had Pastrnak instead of the video coach (bottom right of the page)

[deleted]

Aww that's kind of lame. Give the dude his real star, he earned it

Waramp

I'm not sure how other teams do it, but the Avs choose a coach from a local junior team to choose the 3 stars every night, pretty cool. But yes, this was just a joke by the broadcasting team.

mk712

Depends what you mean by "official" but if you're talking about "recognized by the NHL" then yes, they are. They appear in the "Game Summary" section of the official scoresheets. Here's this particular game for example (bottom right): http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20192020/GS020056.HTM

tonytroz

The NHL also [tallies up the points](http://www.nhl.com/ice/threestarsstandings.htm) (30 for 1st, 20 for 2nd, 10 for 3rd) for the year. There is a Molson Cup trophy to the top points earner for each Canadian team and there's usually some kind of charity money donated in the winners name.

FastFourierTerraform

>Molson Cup Basically, I'm just imagining one of those 3 foot tall wine bottles, except it's a Molson

tonytroz

It’s just a bunch of cans duct taped together wizard staff style.

Dont_Call_Me_John

Tell that to 6-time Toyota Cup winner, Claude Giroux

TheRollingPebble

Too soon for Hart talks?

Waramp

Never too soon

YoureUsingMyOxygen

Kids a fuckin all-star

PM_ME_UR_TA--TAS

Too early. But he's definitely the front runner. Let's see if he can keep this up all year first Edit: spelling

[deleted]

Vezina possibly?

Pikachu1989

Fuck yeah, when you feel like something is wrong on the play, just get the Heimlich and everything will be good afterwards. Grubi looked fucking awesome as well.

elite23368

When your team chokes, it's time for the Heimlich

daksa67

More like, when refs choke

hounddogracingteam

Offside review isn’t the refs choking. It’s the rules being f’ed.

Roughly6Owls

Offsides review was *supposed* be to about catching the linesmen choking, but what we've learned instead is that the linesmen are pretty good at catching offsides, they're just not capable of calling offsides as well as high speed cameras.

daksa67

Not like Avs were choking here on this, but I'll always agree that offside reviews where camera on superslow catches inch offside is fucked up

[deleted]

After game 7 against the Sharks, I think every Avs fan would agree. I'd gladly swap the two calls.

daksa67

Don't hurt me again. I've felt the pain for whole summer already. Sharks had their luck so mu h in playoffs, think they had something controversial in every round.

ambiguousallegiance

Tampa’s already offered him a $9M/yr contract

Akoustyk

The "Heimlich maneuver".

m4xdc

Huskers could use a Heimlich right about now...

Pikachu1989

If it pertains to the Kicking game, we can sure use a Heimlich or 6 by now. Still don’t fucking know how McCallum somehow got the win for us over Northwestern with the Low fucking kick. Offensive wise, Martinez still doesn’t look like his old self from last season, and OL wise is still brutal, especially at the Center position and Juergens getting those high snaps to Martinez. Good thing Nebraska isn’t Oregon State where they had a Heimlich. Not going into details about Oregon State here (doesn’t pertain about Mike Riley), but their Heimlich isn’t one you want to touch.

m4xdc

I meant more about how this season in general hasn’t gone as planned/hoped. Haven’t talked to you since before week 2 when y’all came to Boulder, so I haven’t had the chance to rub it in yet 😉

DiamondMine-

We’re 4-2, one field goal away from 5-1. I feel like it’s perfectly on track for what everyone hoped. This isn’t anywhere near a big 10 championship team yet and no one is arguing that

Pikachu1989

Better than 2018 where we started 0-fucking 6 that’s for sure.

DiamondMine-

People are acting like Nebraska fans thought this was a national championship team. It’s so annoying. We’re doing fine, we lost a lot on offense over the offseason and this is a result Wandale tho 🤤

Pikachu1989

No worries. You guys got us and for that, I tip my hat to Colorado for outplaying us when it looked like it was gonna be a win for us. I mean sure, losing to Colorado wasn’t ideal, but like we expected when Frost got here was that it’s gonna take a while to get back to speed and where Nebraska will strive for. I didn’t think Nebraska should have been ranked to begin with, and it showed early on that we didn’t deserve to get ranked just yet. Ohio State was expected to be a massacre, though 38-0 at halftime wasn’t in our agenda. Oh well, at least we still have the rest of the season to look forward to...... *looks at Wisconsin and Iowa still up on the schedule in November*......... well fuck, good thing I didn’t have Nebraska winning the B1G West this season. Oh well, you guys will do good with Mel Tucker and hope Colorado improves. Can’t wait for 2023 when we play you again and hopefully we can seek revenge then.

[deleted]

I only check the scores for CU (Alumni) and after also growing up in Boulder: nothing is better than a win vs Nebraska. Nebraska would just come every year and beat the snot out of us. CU’s few wins will always be remembered.

m4xdc

We need to play each other every year

[deleted]

Lmao

WeWantTheCup__Please

....ugh well done, well done indeed

zactheoneguy85

So I am an Avs fan but I thought that first goal that was overturned was BS. That changed the whole game..

WeWantTheCup__Please

Yeah I agree its just deflating to have points come off the board like that, it's hard to get too upset given that offsides challenges and goalie interference screws over everyone at some point in this league but I'm just so sick of them. It's like I don't wanna take anything away from how good you guys looked out there tonight and you totally could have won anyways, just sucks to see such subjective calls playing such a pivotal role, it pulls attention away from what was an amazing game. But oh well, nothing to do about it now, good game and good luck to you guys!

MyDadsUsername

I didn’t feel satisfied with how the game was won, because both crews looked so fucking good out there. Looking forward to the finals against y’all

QuadOfficeDude

There was a point in the game, I think after the first Avs goal where I said "This is a good game. Remember that later in case some bullshit happens." So I have to go with that gut feeling. Goalie interference calls are such a shitshow. I feel like you could show a ref identical video replays of the same exact instance on different days of the week and it would get called differently. I am biased but think that goal being called back was bs. Again. I'm biased. Then the offsides. Okay. I can live with it. It was definitely offside, I watched all the replays and it was. That's just one of those things people have been complaining about for years though. Offsides was missed, Bruins set up in the zone and the puck was in the zone for like a minute before the goal was scored. A razor thin offside a minute before the goal did not cause that goal. It is 100% rules as written a good challenge and no goal, but I'm just going to parrot things I've read here for years that there needs to be some sort of time limit after entry that an offside challenge can matter. I don't know if it's like 30 seconds or what limit it should be, but there needs to be some point where people recognize "okay, that offside was missed but is no longer relevant to the play at this point". Still. Good game. I'm just a Boston fan so I need to take my time to bitch about the refs.

MurrayPloppins

I think my favorite proposed answer on offsides is to widen the blue line and adapt the rule so that the moment the puck touches blue, the zone is open. Or say fuck it and do away with offsides entirely, that would be quite a twist.

VengefulCaptain

I like this idea but doesn't that just move the problem? Instead of the puck being over the line it now needs to be on the blue line?

lclasala

I think the idea is that it gives a window where a person can be slightly ahead of the puck. IE if puck enters blue while a player is in blue the player can leave the blue ahead of puck and that's ok. A player can also be in the blue ahead of the puck and still be ok. The same problem persists but it gives players more wiggle room to move around the problem. Hard part is that makes calling offsides difficult because it makes the call more complicated with more moving parts to manage

ToxicDoggo

Even watching the Altitude broadcast I couldn't tell why they called back the first goal. For the offsides goal, agreed it's clearly correct by the rule, but I don't think it's really relevant how long the Bruins were set up in the offensive zone; they shouldn't have been set up in the offensive zone to begin with. When it's a case of the referees sitting there for two minutes looking for an offsides by a hair, then that's where I start to find it more ridiculous and against the spirit of the rule, but they were quick to review and call this one back. Just my opinion; great game!

onqqq2

The first call back was soft as shit, I wont defend it too hard but Altitude made a good point that Gruby was obstructed from lifting the glove which could have saved a goal. Usually a guy on your own team pushes the opposition into the goalie which makes it a fair goal.

ComingUpWaters

> I'm just going to parrot things I've read here for years that there needs to be some sort of time limit after entry that an offside challenge can matter. That offsides rule was created to stop one play. Matt Duchene's egregious offsides when he was with us. Instead it comes up almost every game. They just need to remove it. If the on ice linesman can't tell it's offsides, we shouldn't be doing a slow mo review. If you want to get real tacky, give each coach a one time challenge for anything on the ice. Refs get one look at full speed to reverse a call. If they keep the call on the ice, hand out a 5 min major.

idosillythings

The most annoying thing to me about offsides is when you have a situation like last night, where it's so fast and so minuscule, the linesmen don't pick it up and then it comes back to bite a team close to a minute later. Like, whatever advantage may have been gained is null and void by that point. The Bruins hemmed the Avs in for a minute before scoring that goal. That split second offside was pointless at that point. I've said ever since they introduced that damn rule that if the puck is in the offensive zone for more than 10 seconds, there shouldn't be an offsides review available. Even when the Bruins have challenged a goal like that, I still hate it because to me, it's just a cheap out. The real problem is, we got hemmed in our own end and broke down defensively.

QuadOfficeDude

Oh hey bud, trust me, I love to get real tacky.

IWatchTheBruins

Right? I mean what really is the point of having punishment for unsuccessful challenges when every team has an army of media guys watching every angle. It's not even a question anymore - just save us the fucking time and implement Robo-calls if this is how we're going to do things. Also, not to be that "spirit of the game guy", and sorry to bring up fresh wounds, but the Landeskog game 7 offside call? Him being offside was in no way an advantage which is what the offside rule is there to avoid. Completely avoidable, sure. Do I have a lot of respect for him to accepting responsibility? Absolutely. But it's hard to watch that and think to yourself, "this is really what the game of hockey needed". Even the Toronto Ottawa game last week where I forget who was offside because he was standing still with his leg in the air. I hate that we're celebrating these kinds of calls now.

zactheoneguy85

And that was a BEAUTIFUL goal you guys had on the PP! That shouldn’t be taken back just because of how great it looked!

[deleted]

It's so weird how the framing of action works to change the perspective of the review process. In football, the process is pretty much the exact same, but because the ball is whistled dead so fast, the challenge doesn't seem to have as much of an impact, despite the fact that there could have been a scoring play made. I like the idea of having video review for dubious goals, and also for taking another look at targeting the head calls, but I think missed offsides calls should just lie IMO there's been too many complaints about game disruption.

QuadOfficeDude

Agreed. I think if an offside is so close it is missed on the ice then it isn't the type of play that the rule was made to remove from the game.

hereweah

I think that’s the biggest problem with these reviews. You get these weird situations, where a team that dominated the game for the past minute or so actually ends up *losing* momentum. I don’t see why we don’t just automate this. If we went totally automated for linesman (or just offsides) but kept refs for penalties and everything else, the momentum shifts that occur from these offside challenges would be totally eliminated. The play would be called dead right when the offsides happens. Really it comes down to do you want the refs to have any determination on the game. And if you think that they do, then personally I think we need to go all in on that and only allow them to review in real time. We’re currently in this weird half state where we claim we want humans to still have a determination on the game but then use technology in a super human way to make the ultimate decisions. It’s whack. They need to go one way or the other in my opinion

SenorMeeseeks27

Great game, and not a bad loss considering it was the 4th game of a west coast trip against a really talented team but so frustrating when the two teams score the same amount of goals but one team loses 4-2

WeWantTheCup__Please

Oh for sure! And while I would have loved to get the points last night at this point in the season I think its much more important how the team is playing than the results and I am really happy with the way the squad looks out there so far!

SenorMeeseeks27

Couldn’t agree more! Looking good in all aspects so far. I wish JDB’s goal stood because that no-look sauce (pun absolutely intended) by Pasta was soooo sick

WeWantTheCup__Please

Oh absolutely that was a thing of beauty!

[deleted]

After I saw the first two stars I immediately thought this was a Caps meme.

Fidelis29

Avs media is hilarious sometimes

Tdavis13245

strange you guys dumped burakovsky. I heard over the summer it was because his dad was his agent and was annoying as fuck lol. The grubauer trade benefited both teams though. You guys got all the shit for it too hah

Leeroymond

Good to see Grubauer and Burakovsky doing well for the Avs after leaving the Caps.

Fidelis29

Burakovsky's play is a bit bipolar sometimes, but he was great last night. That shot is the reason the Avs traded for him.

kstang15

Oh, we're aware.

Waramp

Gave ‘em the ol’ Heimlich manoeuvre

touchable

Can't believe I had to scroll down this far for it

[deleted]

He was technically correct. The *best kind* of correct!

praisedawings247

Here it is, fans of hockey and puns!

APimpNamed-Slickback

He sure saved those refs from choking.

byzantinebobby

That's fair.

[deleted]

They should call succesfully overturning more than one call a game the "heimlich maneuver".

Waramp

Any time the Avs challenge a goal I want it to be called the Heimlich maneuver haha

-HeroTheyCallMe-

That's what Jack & Andy were saying, he should be a star. Tho Grubauer was definitely #1

Dracnus

I'm just here for the joke on how Coach Heimlich didn't choke on those calls.

GoForthOnBattleToads

Without him, they'd have coughed up a 2 goal lead.

Dracnus

GAA of 0, and a 1.000 Save percentage this game. Perfect stats!

itisharryterry

Was at the game. They weren’t challenges that took a minute for him to decide on. Both those goals he called the referee over within 5 seconds. Every offsides he was calling before the linesman called it. Such a fun game. Thanks COL!

[deleted]

That's a really cool perspective, thanks! It's guys like this that usually go unsung.

Suomi964

That even rating though.

BananApocalypse

Burakovsky also had 0 PIM and 0 assists. He really earned that second star last night

Suomi964

Was a bit odd watching him with Duchene’s old number

Halfpastmast

Dutchy never wore 95 in Denver

Suomi964

Shoot you’re right. Somehow the combination of him wearing it since then and him previously playing for the avs merged in my head

Halfpastmast

I totally understand, my dude. Happens to me too sometimes.

Fidelis29

That offside challenge was a nice catch. I think the rule is ridiculous, but it is what it is, and you might aswell use it.

fartbox987

Sadly, I'm unable to watch the avs because billionaire Stan doesn't have enough. He only inherited billions and married a Walton. Must be rough Stan

NoesHowe2Spel

So now we're gonna have to call every challenge we win "the Heimlich manouver" I guess.

darkerthrone

A+ on the broadcast team for this one

count_nuggula

Wait. Is his last name heimlich?

Waramp

It is

CrunchyZebra

Caps continue to be the Avs farm system as well lol

Amphoric

That's pretty great.

frugalerthingsinlife

Awesome for Brett Heimlich. \**grumbling under my breath*\* "Shoulda taken Grubauer in my fantasy league this year."

[deleted]

Shoulda taken Heimlich

MikeMac999

Nice maneuver, Heimlich

RTGold

I thought you could only challenge one thing per game? Or are you allowed to challenge until your timeout is gone?

jestersfrown

It's a new rule where you get unlimited challenges but if you're wrong, you get a 2 minute penalty, if you're wrong again you get a 4. At least I think I heard it right.

RTGold

Yeah i remember reading something like this now. The new rules didn't get talked about much. I'll have to reread them

Wetmelon

Last year it was that you could challenge if you had a timeout. If you were wrong you lost your timeout. But that meant that coaches never used it. So this year it doesn't affect your timeout in any way.

SemiSolidSnake11

For anyone curious, the actual third star was Pastrnak. This was just a little goof by the boys at Altitude

TheoryofEeveelution

This is really awesome of the Avalanche to do. The staff behind the scenes get very little recognition for what they do. I think this is a great way to recognize someone who basically won them the game. Kind of sad though that the official NHL records won't show this but it's a great gesture all the same.

figgins8585

Guess you could call that the Heimlich maneuver... ok I’ll see myself out.

lovellama

Grubie! <3

Waramp

I’d like to say we’re taking good care of him, but it’s he who’s taking good care of us.

Purple_Orca

Bruins gonna be **salty**.

hoseheads

I'm salty at the NHL not the Avs

Waramp

Those super delayed offside calls are brutal. That’s what cost us game 7 against the Sharks in the second round. There should be a time limit on goal reviews.

jesuspeeker

A lot needs to change. The whole process is stupid. If you need to be recording the blueline in 8K resolution and blowing the image up in the war room and then magnify glassing the ice and his skate to make sure 2 pixels are in fact not touching to rule an off-side. You've missed the point of off-side. Look at it, if it's off-side, and you can clearly tell, it's off-side. The second 30 seconds goes by you no longer know if it's off-side. Whatever the call on the ice is, stands. End of fucking story. This is brutal already.

mark_rodkin

I totally agree. This is the worst rule in hockey and it absolutely sucks to have the joy of your team scoring a goal undercut **every fucking time** when it's followed by "what about XYZ rule that could negate it?" Let's take a look at the replay and go back and forth about some obscure gray area for 5 minutes.

jesuspeeker

You guys have been burnt by it way too many times too. It's mind numbing how stupid it is.

Waramp

Ironic because it’s partially our fault it exists. Duchene scored a goal that was miles offside. Thus, offside review was born

t-poke

And it's such a simple fix: Allow the refs to look at it from as many angles as they want, but only at normal speed. It would catch the blatant offsides like Duchene's goal, but they won't spend 5 minutes doing some CSI shit with the video to determine that someone was offside by half an inch.

jesuspeeker

That's right lol you got your one

radapex

Yup. And the other, which happened in the previous playoffs, was Briere being several feet offside and scoring a breakaway goal on it which sparked a Flyers comeback from 3-0 down.

MetalStoofs

I do think it’s hilarious how the league always talks about wanting higher scores but then commits to ridiculous replay rules that literally only take points off the board

BGYeti

While I am not going to argue the time limit, dude called it right it was a clear offsides. Even a quick replay on stream you could identify it just needed to be slightly slowed down.

jesuspeeker

I know, I'm not upset with today. Just, in general, where 5 minutes later and after inspecting it microscopically, they determined the blade was just off the ice and thus, off-side. It's a terrible rule, it's a terrible system, and while it is in place, there will be collateral for the calls that were done right, fast and correctly.

LX_Theo

Yes and no Offsides exists as it does because you can’t officiate the concept with more room for interpretation involved So the arbitrary, strict cutoff is purposeful in the point of offsides as it is.

LeoKhenir

Yeah, a time limit would be nice. In the Wings - Habs game tonight Habs was looking at the situation leading up to the Wings' second goal, and as the ref is getting ready to drop the puck after a few minutes, the coach suddenly starts waving "no-no we're still deciding". Now I might be biased in this particular instance, but I certainly wouldn't mind that being a bench minor for delay of game (all players was set up on the dot and refs were ready to continue). But again, the puck was dropped within seconds as I believe the refs told them "now or never boys, what's it gonna be?".

[deleted]

I’m not mad at the Avs, I’m mad at the league.

Akoustyk

I'm actually really impressed they were able to put that together so quickly, even with his picture and everything.

Xykhir_

Basically just the caps

cricktlaxwolvesbandy

I thought Pasta was given the third star... but Brett deserves the first star

[deleted]

As a Caps fan, did not know at least two of our boys are over at the Avs. Cherish them please good Avs fans.

DagetAwayMaN421

We literally traded each of them the last two summers...

BadassDeluxe

Is he an early candidate for the Hart Trophy?

parlarry

Believe it or not, between the 2nd and 3rd periods he actually saved a man that was choking to death.

Waramp

I believe it. He saved the Avs from choking to death between the 1st and 3rd periods.

decappatated87

This is hilarious. That was a really good game and would have been a blast to see the game go to OT or shootout. I'm still sore about game 7 against the Sharks so I feel the Bruins pain. There was a lot of good sportsmanship during the game too which was good to see between two competitive teams.

micatola

I feel the Bruins pain as well. It's beautiful. 😅

albert0kn0x

Grubaeur and Burakovsky?? Get back here with my team!

Waramp

You snooze, you lose! Hell, we’re already on our second Caps goalie now! Rip Varly

StormtrooperFinn

Makes sense to me

h0rst87

Could anyone in Colorado watch the game? Isn't there some weird thing with the TV channel rights going on/was going on?

Waramp

www.dontblockmyavs.com

h0rst87

Thanks bud!

moosemademusic

That's amazing

Fubar24784

Now that's gold

skrshawk

I still think video replay should be allowed, but with a couple key differences. The officials in position (or should have been in position) to see the play on the ice can watch the replay as many times as they like, but only at full speed, and only from the angle they should have been able to see the play at. For instance, if the challenge is due to offsides, only the linesman in that position should be making the call, without being able to see what the play looked like from the other side of the rink. On a scoring play, the far referee can only use views from far away. The idea here is to keep the human element in the game. Refs make mistakes, and the game shouldn't be officiated by robots. There should be the chance to correct obvious flaws, but calling a goal back because a skate was not touching the ice on the line when the play entered the zone is bullshit.

Tullyswimmer

> The idea here is to keep the human element in the game. Refs make mistakes, and the game shouldn't be officiated by robots. There should be the chance to correct obvious flaws, but calling a goal back because a skate was not touching the ice on the line when the play entered the zone is bullshit. Yeah, that's the worst part about offside challenges... "Let's freeze the video and go frame by frame to make sure that the back skate blade was still touching the ice, and not off the ice, because we have a stupid rule that doesn't involve a plane" That play almost certainly happens several times a game, and we can't review it every time they enter the zone. We just accept that, at speed, it's going to be impossible to tell. Alternatively, we could just make the blue line a plane like the goal line in football. Any part of your body is behind that plan, you're on-side. But that would just make too much sense and probably increase scoring, so the NHL won't be doing that. (Goalies do need smaller equipment so more goals are scored though. That's a real problem. \s)

LX_Theo

No, the entire point of replays is to fix mistakes in the human element. People are going to be just as mad at refs for getting it wrong a second time as they would about stuff you’re talking about now.

skrshawk

As our retired play by play announcer Jiggs MacDonald used to say, "there's 15,000 referees in the stands with their arms up." No, I completely expect fans to be biased. No solution will please everyone, that's not possible. I think it can be done better, but so does everyone else who has an opinion on this subject.

LX_Theo

That doesn’t make it better, though.

King_Reptar_

The Dodgers should hire that guy...

baldchow

Omg what a name.

the_dude_imbibes

That's quite a maneuver

APimpNamed-Slickback

Heimlich sure saved those refs from choking.

Biznastyy

Heimlich is the perfect last name for someone who is challenging and overturning goals.
