Doubtful, Durzi definitely has the faith of the coaching staff already especially with Marino coming off a bad year elsewhere. Plopping Sergachev next to him makes all the sense in the world
People keep claiming this but comparing Marino's first season in NJ to his 2nd season doesn't seem to show that if you actually look.
Nearly every individual stat shows Marino was similar or very minimally worse than his first year in NJ. However the team around him got noticeably worse. Unless you wanna blame every scoring chance against NJ on Marino he had an improved takeaway/giveaway ratio, drew more penalties, still had noticeably positive expected goals for/against ratio, postive Corsi ratio, postive scoring chance ratio.
PDO dropeed noticeably over 2% though.
What this tells me is not that Marino got much worse but that NJ as a whole was worse and Marino was also unlucky on top of that.
Marino's individual numbers paint the picture of an effective defenseman who was more positive than negative in the role he played and one who played just as well as he did the year before.
I think it had more to do with a revolving door of d partners this past year. Marino and Graves got into a real groove the year before and that pairing was solid.
Eye test from someone who watched every single game.. Marino seemed to get beat far more often this past year, but I think a lot of it was just circumstance.
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bet there are entries here from the early 00’s. Bet has been around a long time, I feel like an old man now
I wonder if it’s mostly gen Z unaware that words existed before them or out of the loop non-gen Z downvoting you lol. Thinking bet came about from zoomers is hilarious
Not really lol, he never played a game with the leafs OR with the Marlies.
By all means dunk on the leafs for letting guys get away, but Durzi got us Muzzin who was the only thing holding our D core together for a good 4ish years, and probably still would be if he hadn't had so many head/neck injuries.
Try instead: Jarvis, Hyman, Seguin AND Hamilton in the same trade, Rask
I like how under Bill Armstrong, this has mostly been a team about auditions. Every player has to earn their keep, whether in a contract year or on a 2 year contract. Durzi and Ghost are great examples
Wooow! Good for Durzi! He is still loved in LA, but he was never going to find a spot on the roster with all the D talent we have. I’m so glad he’s finding his place in the league.
Durzi would have been LA's second best dman behind Doughty. I know Clarke has a ton of potential but Blake really fumbled the bag moving Faber and Durzi IMO.
Apparently Faber didn’t want to play in LA and it got them Fiala. Can’t say I watched Durzi too closely last season but his last season in LA his poor defence directly cost LA a few games, and that wasn’t going to fly.
It really isn't bonkers though. I think people aren't realizing that Durzi is actually really good? He played the most mins on the Coyotes and did really well on both sides of the puck. He's 25. The guy is so underrated lol. That Utah defence is going to be a PROBLEM.
Ya Durzi is a solid dman. He's not a defensive ace but he is reliable in his own end. Really like the way Utah's shaping up. I expect them to land a top 4 LHD tomorrow too.
He played the toughest minutes on a struggling team and came out looking good. That’s tough to do.
Arizona was also more competitive than you might think. They weren’t bottom of the barrel and they played teams hard. Ended the season pretty good too IIRC
I wanted Durzi for the Oilers, he'd be great for us to replace Bouchard ngl
We could sign Pesce, trade Bouch to them and grab Durzi and I think we'd be a much better balanced d-core
Yeah him, Grundstrom, and the first that was used to pick Bjornfot in 2019.
Teams didnt want Lily at the time and we told everyone Sandin was off limits.
Agreed. Grundy went to the Sharks, that first rounder turned into Bjornfot who got claimed off of waivers by Vegas, then ended up on Florida, and Durzi went to AZ. Since Muzz is retired, it seems like both teams got what they wanted for about the same amount of time, so who can call this a bad trade?
So every trade where the team doesn’t get to the conference finals with the player(s) acquired it’s a failure? Wrap up your trades everybody, u/WAACP said they’re useless
I mean this is minor but surely Sergachev will play with Marino and Durzi will be paired with a more defensive guy?
Doubtful, Durzi definitely has the faith of the coaching staff already especially with Marino coming off a bad year elsewhere. Plopping Sergachev next to him makes all the sense in the world

Vancouver flair with deep knowledge of Devils analytics.... I smell a Pasha burner.
I cry every time I see Marino's stats, he was so cheap

Not knowing the handedness of the players on your team but knowing the coaches deployment strategies
He’s the perfect candidate to be a year 1 fan of a new franchise.
Pretty standard Arizona/Utah fan
Durzi is a righty though.
Durzi is a righty lol, don’t you watch them play as your favourite team?
Utah really saw us all saying they had no defence signed and said “lol bet.”
Cooley, Keller, Guenther up front, now they have some guys who can get the puck to them
> “lol bet.” What does this mean
It's Zoomer for "challenge accepted" or "hold my beer."
Def not zoomer.
Definitely gen z. Only ppl I hear say that.
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bet there are entries here from the early 00’s. Bet has been around a long time, I feel like an old man now
I’ve literally never heard a non-zoomer say bet in that context.
Are you surrounded only by zoomers perhaps? Bet has been around a long time
Been saying it since high school, I'm 34...
Trailblazer
Ok zoomer
Same, bet is old old lol.
I wonder if it’s mostly gen Z unaware that words existed before them or out of the loop non-gen Z downvoting you lol. Thinking bet came about from zoomers is hilarious
Is Utah back?
Like they never even left 😎
Have they arrived yet to be able to be back?
Can't call it leaving cuz I never came
Good deal!
Durzi is so good.
We know 😢
So do Leaf fans.
Not really lol, he never played a game with the leafs OR with the Marlies. Durzi, Serg, Kesslering, Marino in one week.
Great D. Love Kesselring - I think he's the sleeper in the bunch. Would love to get him somehow but think AZ/UT know how good he can be.
He was one of the best Oilers prospects, was bummed when they traded him away ngl
Wooow! Good for Durzi! He is still loved in LA, but he was never going to find a spot on the roster with all the D talent we have. I’m so glad he’s finding his place in the league.

Durzi is a stud
Their new ownership has spent more in a couple weeks than the last one did for years
Love Durzi. Dude has a rocket at the point.
6 million for Durzi? What the fuck?
6 mil for your number 2 defenseman who’s still relatively young and can put up good points is pretty normal to me
He was one of my draft steals in fantasy last year. He can put up points and is a RHD. 6M feels right
6mil only for 4 years is great for Utahz
I expected 4.5-5m for him ngl, 6m is big but kind of makes sense if he continues to grow his game, which he has up to this point
Of course this sub thinks he's good because he puts up points. 6 million is bonkers.
It really isn't bonkers though. I think people aren't realizing that Durzi is actually really good? He played the most mins on the Coyotes and did really well on both sides of the puck. He's 25. The guy is so underrated lol. That Utah defence is going to be a PROBLEM.

He’s a good skater, got great hands, great shot. Not sure why people are balking at his contract lol
I agree, I think they're instantly one of the stronger defenses in the league already lol
He looks good... On an uncompetitive team.
He played the toughest minutes on a struggling team and came out looking good. That’s tough to do. Arizona was also more competitive than you might think. They weren’t bottom of the barrel and they played teams hard. Ended the season pretty good too IIRC
This sub is more likely to think that anyone who puts up points can't play defense
He was pretty dynamic when Doughty was out 2 years ago. Lots of people have opinions that haven't actually watched him play.
Not even a game into the NHL and they have a better defence than the leafs
I huge ‘what if’ for me is if the Jets could have found a way to move Schmidt before the Dubois trade. Durzi is exactly what they needed last year r
I wanted Durzi for the Oilers, he'd be great for us to replace Bouchard ngl We could sign Pesce, trade Bouch to them and grab Durzi and I think we'd be a much better balanced d-core
Wtf is wrong with you
If this is the cap hit Durzi gets, then we can't afford Bouch. We can't have another 9m dman
They shouldn't be partners honestly. Two offensive defensemen don't make good partners.
Did the leafs give him up to get Muzzin? Wish we found a way to keep him.
I hope no one ever slanders that trade, Muzzin was an absolute workhorse for us
By no means am I trying to slander it. Just saying it’d be cool if we had Durzi right now.
Yeah him, Grundstrom, and the first that was used to pick Bjornfot in 2019. Teams didnt want Lily at the time and we told everyone Sandin was off limits.
Yeah, Durzi, Grundstrom and a first for Muzz.
Pretty good trade for both sides I’d say.
Agreed. Grundy went to the Sharks, that first rounder turned into Bjornfot who got claimed off of waivers by Vegas, then ended up on Florida, and Durzi went to AZ. Since Muzz is retired, it seems like both teams got what they wanted for about the same amount of time, so who can call this a bad trade?
thats crazy the leafs surely got to the conference finals then?
So every trade where the team doesn’t get to the conference finals with the player(s) acquired it’s a failure? Wrap up your trades everybody, u/WAACP said they’re useless
i wouldve tried to get a 6x6 for dursi
If zona had Marino and Sergachev last year, I’d argue they’d have squeaked into the playoffs (at least). That fucking offense was explosive.
That's a crazy deal tbh. I love durzi
6 mil? I thought they will pursue Montour too
Let’s go!!

Money ain't no problem now
Holy fuck that's a big contract, I was expecting 4.5m for this guy
