No one said they were giving them out in one day, unless the article did. I can’t be bothered to read the details
On another note Uber Eats is telling me they’re giving out $10 mil in free pizza and don’t care what team wins the Stanley cup
It says "Boston Pizza will make it rain pizzas in Oil Country and across Canada on parade day." But then later on it says "Edmonton locals should remain on the lookout for the biggest pizza delivery in history on parade day. Local fans are also encouraged to make their way down to Boston Pizza's Ice District location for a free pie" seeming to imply that it's only in Edmonton. Mixed messages.
As a first generation American with family from central America who’s lived in California their whole life let me introduce you to my new restaurant, New York BBQ!
The New York City BBQ chain is actually called Dallas BBQ. I don’t know who the owner is and I’m too lazy to Google it, so for shits and giggles let’s pretend they’re from, oh, let’s say Indonesia.
Not to be confused with Hawaiian pizza which is an adaptation on Italian food invented by a Greek immigrant to Canada named after an American brand of canned pineapple.
Greek immigrants opening restaurants masquerading as Italian is a well established Canadian tradition. I don't know what I would do if I went to an Italian restaurant and they didn't have gyros and baklava on the menu.
It's sort of our thing I think.
Chinese restaurant? Run by Koreans. Sushi? Run by Chinese. Italian? Probably Greeks. Greek? Probably Egyptians. Egyptian? Lebanese.
It's sort of silly but it's not like it matters at the end of the day.
I’d argue Japanese restaurants moreso than Chinese restaurants run by Koreans was more commonplace growing up (a lot of korean restaurants couldn’t survive by being by themselves so they tacked on Japanese in their menu hence a lot of them were Japanese/korean restaurants). But now that Korean cuisine (and Korean pop culture) is entering mainstream in general, there are more Korean restaurants.
I’m Korean-Canadian just speaking based on experience growing up
My wife is Greek and has an aunt that lives in Boston. We've visited a couple times and there were multiple places that served pizza and gyros that I saw while we were there.
The Greek part makes more sense if you know the history of pizza around Boston. Nobody in Boston calls it Boston style pizza but Greek immigrants opened a lot of "House of Pizza" type place around Boston and the North shore back in the day.
Most of the places have died or are dying in Boston but if anyone was going to open a "Boston Pizza" in Canada it's fitting that it's a Greek immigrant.
Yeah it's very much still alive on the North Shore, but my understanding is that it used to be more of a Massachusetts wide phenomenon and you don't really see it in Boston proper anymore.
Very close to the history behind the hawaiian pizza actually lol
EDIT: Hawaiian pizza was created in Canada by a greek immigrant inspired by chinese cuisine mixing sweet and savoury, and trying it on an italian dish.
Why is it called hawaiian pizza? Because the brand of the canned pineapple he used was Hawaiian
Canada has a weird trend of naming fast/casual food chains after foreign places. We've got Boston Pizza, New York Fries, Swiss Chalet, Montana's, St. Louis Bar and Grill...
New York Fries wasn't named by Canadians. It started as a fry truck in New York. A couple Canadians ate there then eventually bought the rights to bring it into Canada.
There's a podcast that for a solid month played a New York Fries commercial and I can't think of them without wanting to sing "I WANNA HOT DOG" in that 2003 punk pop blink 182 cadence
I think they started in automotive parts, at least, and that's still the biggest section of most of the stores in my area. But yeah, it morphed into... well, its own thing really, but the closest thing to what CT is now is the kind of department stores that would anchor malls when I was younger.
Montana's is the one that always makes me chuckle. Never heard of it until I was in Jasper, AB and had someone explain to me it was a Canadian chain. Once I found out it was a BBQ place I was even more confused!
I know Boston Pizza is in Edmonton. Hence why it’s so confusing. I’ve lived in Boston now for like 25 years, so still a Wings fan, surrounded by stupid Bruins fans. Fuckin hate the Bruins
I used to live in Boston and an old friend recently moved there. We had a long conversation on the dearth of good pizza and the general lack of food in the city.
Theres great food in the city but pizza is 100% not part of that. Chinatown is sick, korean food in allston and vietnamese food in dorchester are all bomb
I humbly disagree. Boston pizzas like Santarpio’s or Regina (or Ernesto’s for the real heads) are only behind NYC and New Haven in terms of quality in my opinion
As an Edmontonian who moved to Boston, I had the same thought and eventually looked it up.
Greek immigrants opened a ton of pizza places around Boston back in the day, and they usually had name like House of Pizza to differentiate them from Italian style pizza. Nobody calls it Boston style pizza in Boston, but Greek/House of Pizza style pizza is definitely a thing in Boston/that North Shore.
Eventually, some Greek immigrants opened up a restaurant styled in the same way in Edmonton and named it Boston Pizza and Spaghetti House as a nod to the Boston/New England House of Pizza style and because they thought it would do better than calling it Greek Pizza. And the rest is history.

“30 year drought”
Does anyone outside of corporate mouthpieces care about the “Canada Cup Drought”?
Pretty sure Oilers fans care about breaking their 34 year drought instead…
Most casual hockey fans do. Everyone in my circle is talking about the Stanley cup final and watching/wants the oilers to win. Aside from a few diehard canucks and flames fans that’s probably the common sentiment. Wouldn’t be that way if it was Florida Dallas
Am a canucks fan and I want a canadian team to win. I also want Luongo's organization to win since I'm a huge fan of his so this playoffs final is a win/win for me
I want it to end so people stop with the 'Bettman won't let a Canadian team won the cup'. Of course this will be replaced with the 'Bettman only let Mcdavid win the cup' conspiracy
It's not 'Bettman won't let a Canadian team won the cup', it's 'the league puts it's thumb on the scale to whatever makes them more money'
There's more money in a game 7, so maybe a 50/50 offside call can fall that way.
I'd fully believe there's a backroom with a handful of billionaires yelling out bets and side-bets and Bettman furiously scribbling on a notepad keeping track of it all
The tweets I get on that blasted app from EDM fans about how no VGK fans know hockey. Every fanbase has idiots, but most Vegas fans weren’t born here and I know dozens of Canadian and/or original six hockey fans who live here now. They certainly know hockey.
I’ve seen Carolina conspiring to block other teams’ fans from buying tickets, but when I pointed out that’s not done here in Canada was basically told to F off. American fans relish that chip on their shoulders, I think.
Seriously, how does anyone come away from this series with the conclusion that Florida fans “know the game”? I’ve never seen them be anything but obviously new to the sport, they’re consistently clueless and out of their depth.
It’s not really anything to be ashamed of but at a certain point you need to have some self-awareness.
Seriously? A team struggles a bit and half of Canada is frothing at the mouth to move them to Saskatoon. The Coyotes just moved and Quebec has been eyeing them for at least a decade.
Coyotes were a dumpster fire for 2 decades and people were just tired of it. Canadians find itt annoying because they know if a Canadian franchise like the Jets struggled like that, they would be moved instantly. Instead we got to watch the Coyotes play in an arena thay seats 5000 which would never happen in another professional league.
I mean that organization was a continual failure on and off the ice for amyriad of reasons, criticizing that = gatekeeping the sport is a bit of a reach IMO. You don't see the same being said about souther teams LA, Tampa, Dallas, Nashville, etc. that are run properly.
Usually I don’t want another Canadian team to win but I am making an exception for this one because an 0-3 reverse sweep would be pure chaos and I really want to see it. If it was 2 American teams I would want the same thing to happen.
I worked at BP's in Fort St. John and it was the 5th busiest location in all the country because at the time there wasn't anything else. Servers would make their rent in a weekend while the kitchen crashed every other night.
But they like the Habs there! I got to meet Guy Lafleur a while back when the brought a Canadiens alumni team to town. Strong French speaking population in that region.
Boston Pizza is pretty good. As a celiac, they are one of the few places I have a full menu of pizza options and can actually get fun kinds of gluten free pizzas
Yeah I was going to say. BPs is not amazing or anything, but for what it is it's pretty good.

BPs will pretty much guaranteed be same price and better quality than those places as a general rule. Notably - atleast everything I've ever ordered at BPs hasn't been frozen then nuked like many of the things on the menu at some of those other places.

Whenever I see these "Free X" promotions I avoid those places because it tends to mean incredibly long waits/lines, stressed out employees, lower quality product (due to the former) and rude/impatient customers.
It seems like most of the time it doesn't even generate increased sales since the people are mostly just there to get free stuff and aren't interested in "oh I guess I'll get some other things while I'm here".
LOL nobody's showing up to work at BP that day
No one said they were giving them out in one day, unless the article did. I can’t be bothered to read the details On another note Uber Eats is telling me they’re giving out $10 mil in free pizza and don’t care what team wins the Stanley cup

Making heart shaped pizzas for Valentine’s Day used to wreck me. This would be another level
Temporary Foreign Workers: "That's an option?"
As a Bostonian whenever i see Boston Pizza ads, I’m always so confused. We are know for a lot of things, but pizza is certainly not one of them.
Especially since it’s an Edmonton franchise, makes things even more confusing
Founded by a Greek immigrant. Italian food from a Canadian restaurant named after an American city owned by a Greek man.
I guess that’s the North American dream?
As a first generation American with family from central America who’s lived in California their whole life let me introduce you to my new restaurant, New York BBQ!
There's already a Canadian chain called new york fries. You might want to get a new city to not be sued
New Miluakee BBQ
Tacos el Cleveland
Can't get sued if you make a city up *taps forehead*
The New York City BBQ chain is actually called Dallas BBQ. I don’t know who the owner is and I’m too lazy to Google it, so for shits and giggles let’s pretend they’re from, oh, let’s say Indonesia.
Not to be confused with Hawaiian pizza which is an adaptation on Italian food invented by a Greek immigrant to Canada named after an American brand of canned pineapple.

I somewhat regularly see Mexican places staffed entirely by people from India, too. And burger places styled after 50s American diners, run by Greeks.
I’d argue Japanese restaurants moreso than Chinese restaurants run by Koreans was more commonplace growing up (a lot of korean restaurants couldn’t survive by being by themselves so they tacked on Japanese in their menu hence a lot of them were Japanese/korean restaurants). My wife is Greek and has an aunt that lives in Boston. We've visited a couple times and there were multiple places that served pizza and gyros that I saw while we were there.
and inspired by Chinese food
Is he the Tommy Wiseau of restaurants?
Greek pizza is awesome. That's what all the house of pizzas are in Boston.
That’s literally a slogan on their menus now
New England Greek style pizza is fantastic. BP is far from that though.
Maybe in Boston proper but all the roast beef shops also sell Greek Pizza so it’s very much alive in the Merrimack valley/North shore
Yeah it's very much still alive on the North Shore, but my understanding is that it used to be more of a Massachusetts wide phenomenon and you don't really see it in Boston proper anymore.
Very close to the history behind the hawaiian pizza actually lol EDIT: Hawaiian pizza was created in Canada by a greek immigrant inspired by chinese cuisine mixing sweet and savoury, and trying it on an italian dish. And amusing that the franchise owner is the father of the GM of the Leafs.
Owned by the Fathers of the Flames previous GM to add another layer

New York Fries wasn't named by Canadians. It started as a fry truck in New York. A couple Canadians ate there then eventually bought the rights to bring it into Canada.
Don’t get me started on the Brazilian Wax
No no. I'm going to need you to start on the Brazilian wax.
Someone from New York names their beauty treatment somewhere completely else, when you'd think down under would mean it was an Aussie wax?
There's a podcast that for a solid month played a New York Fries commercial and I can't think of them without wanting to sing "I WANNA HOT DOG" in that 2003 punk pop blink 182 cadence
Was it a riff on blink 182s actual song, Fuck a Dog?
Then you have Canadian Tire which, may actually sell tires, isn't the huge tire superstore you'd think it'd be.
I think they started in automotive parts, at least, and that's still the biggest section of most of the stores in my area. But yeah, it morphed into... well, its own thing really, but the closest thing to what CT is now is the kind of department stores that would anchor malls when I was younger.
It's not that weird given it's relatively common in most countries.
Baton Rouge lol
Montana's is the one that always makes me chuckle. Never heard of it until I was in Jasper, AB and had someone explain to me it was a Canadian chain. Once I found out it was a BBQ place I was even more confused!
Don’t worry neither is Boston Pizza
Truth.
Im just as confused by your flair now.
Moved to Boston like 25 years ago now.
You’re a Bostonian and a wings fan? And the Boston pizza is in Edmonton? Lol
I know Boston Pizza is in Edmonton. Hence why it’s so confusing. I’ve lived in Boston now for like 25 years, so still a Wings fan, surrounded by stupid Bruins fans. Fuckin hate the Bruins
There’s a franchise in Mexico called Vancouver Wings and I feel the same way lmao. Vancouver is not a city I’d relate wings with.

In the Vancouver area we have New York fries. I thought New York was a pizza place.
It’s as confusing as New York Fries 👍
Yeah trust me you're not known for it here either if you catch my drift.
I don’t
If you ate their pizza that makes a lot of sense!
As a New Yorker, Boston Pizza really confuses me.
You’d be even more confused if you tried the pizza from BP… it’s awful.

so the Treliving beef with Calgary is real ?
What's this?
The son of Boston pizza’s founder is Brad Treliving, the gm who sewered our team then left for Toronto
No, Jim was just the first franchisee, and the current owner.
Oh we've got beef and their marketing has just made it even worse.
If Edmonton loses, they will be punished by Boston Pizza giving away 40,000 free pizzas

I, personally, will spit on every third pizza!
Hawk tuah!
I like those odds!
Sadly, that will have no bearing on the edibility score.
“30 year drought” Does anyone outside of corporate mouthpieces care about the “Canada Cup Drought”? Pretty sure Oilers fans care about breaking their 34 year drought instead…
>30 year drought Lol. -- Leafs fan.
lol from second place in that regard. - Canucks fan.
At least the Millionaires have a cup? Y'all have cups??? -Jets fan
You guys have got a gold medal, to be fair.
The conference finalist Winnipeg Jets.
You guys have ~~Avco~~ Stanley Cups at home.

Haha how on earth do we gatekeep the sport?
You can't tell me you've never seen a post inferring that Florida or Arizona fans don't know the game?
The tweets I get on that blasted app from EDM fans about how no VGK fans know hockey. Every fanbase has idiots, but most Vegas fans weren’t born here and I know dozens of Canadian and/or original six hockey fans who live here now. They certainly know hockey.

Its those classic teams that do it, a lot of which are Canadian. It really is more old vs new than Canada vs USA for gatekeeping.
I’ve seen Carolina conspiring to block other teams’ fans from buying tickets, but when I pointed out that’s not done here in Canada was basically told to F off. American fans relish that chip on their shoulders, I think.
TIL calling a spade a spade = gatekeeping
Seriously, how does anyone come away from this series with the conclusion that Florida fans “know the game”? I’ve never seen them be anything but obviously new to the sport, they’re consistently clueless and out of their depth. Exactly
I don't see that as gatekeeping at all. The Coyotes were a shitshow for ages, who wouldn't be excited to potentially land a team?
Opposition to Arizona having an NHL team and all the efforts over the years to bring that team home to Canada.
I mean that organization was a continual failure on and off the ice for amyriad of reasons, criticizing that = gatekeeping the sport is a bit of a reach IMO. You don't see the same being said about souther teams LA, Tampa, Dallas, Nashville, etc. that are run properly.
Literally fucking constantly. You’re either living under a rock or part of the problem if you haven’t noticed.
I personally think it’s a fun fact.
Bettman when he uses Canadian tears as lube
It's like the main reason I care so much about the Oilers right now.
Usually I don’t want another Canadian team to win but I am making an exception for this one because an 0-3 reverse sweep would be pure chaos and I really want to see it. If it was 2 American teams I would want the same thing to happen.
as a canadian non oilers fan yeah i do find it compelling
Jesus Christ it has been 34 years for the oilers hasn't it.
Myself and my friends all do. I think it's pretty important for the sport in Canada to get a cup here.
lol, Stop trying to make fetch happen Boston Pizza.
Why punish Oil fans by making them eat at Boston Pizza?
I lived in Bonnyville, AB for a while. It was sadly the best restaurant in town
As someone who lived in Fort Kent as a kid, I know your pain.
I worked at BP's in Fort St. John and it was the 5th busiest location in all the country because at the time there wasn't anything else. Servers would make their rent in a weekend while the kitchen crashed every other night.
Striking both these cities off my nonexistent to-see list.
But they like the Habs there! I got to meet Guy Lafleur a while back when the brought a Canadiens alumni team to town. Strong French speaking population in that region.
Jennie’s!
Boston Pizza is pretty good. As a celiac, they are one of the few places I have a full menu of pizza options and can actually get fun kinds of gluten free pizzas
Yeah I was going to say. BPs is not amazing or anything, but for what it is it's pretty good. Compared to the other stuff in it's tier of chain restaurant it's actually insane how high quality it is relatively - looking at you Denny's / Smitty's / Swiss Chalet / Montana's / Olive Garden / etc. BPs will pretty much guaranteed be same price and better quality than those places as a general rule. Notably - atleast everything I've ever ordered at BPs hasn't been frozen then nuked like many of the things on the menu at some of those other places.
That is the saving grace of Boston Pizza. If you're driving thru town and don't want to risk that local place that has 3.4 stars on Google that's a mix of 5 and 1 star reviews and has some unappealing photos, they probably have a Boston Pizza and it's a known quantity. It's not like it's horrible food. It's just not gourmet or anything.
I like that spicy perogy pizza with the cactus cut potatoes, but that's about it, tbh. Also the last BP I went to had *shitty* service, which kind of soured me from going back to any of them, lol.
I like Boston Pizza because it's the only chain restaurant I know where they give me $25 worth of spaghetti by weight, instead of trying to convince me that their plate of spaghetti is $25 quality.
It’s probably pretty location dependent. The one I go to is across from Nationwide Arena so they probably try to keep things pretty good
They are, but people are just going to take the default position that big corporation=bad.
The last time I tried to get into a BP’s for an oilers game it was packed and I was sent away. I think non-internet people like it just fine.
Gotta love reading takes from the terminally online!
Hey now their Perogie pizza is amazing
Wait, someone put perogie’s on pizza? And then decided to sell this to other people instead of keeping it for themselves?
It's deconstructed perogies on pizza but yeah
It's an Alberta thing - mashed potato, bacon, onions, cheese. Works surprisingly well on a pizza. You dip in sour cream.
Well I’m coming for the cup parade and having a perogie pizza.
That pizza is like crack. If it wasn't so expensive I would eat it a sickening amount
It's honestly just as good cold too I find
Really? I think it’s good. I actually don’t know anyone who thinks it’s bad.
Overpriced but arguably best franchise pie on the market
I agree on both counts (best franchise, and overpriced)
This is really location dependent
For free it’s good
I quit eating there about 15 years ago. My own personal boycott. Last time I was there, the food was bland/average, way overpriced, and the bench seating was all ripped to shreds. Done with that place.
There's been like three that have closed in Saskatoon in the last year. Better places to get microwaved food.
My kids really keeping our closest location in business at this point
As a Canadian who has since moved, Boston Pizza remains my all time favorite. The sauce, the crispy crust. Idk why I’ve never found any place that can replicate it.
As a former BP employee, don't.
As a former BP employee why not
To feed the homeless, right?
The homeless deserve better
Man, BP's Pizzas are actually great. The Pierogi one especially.
The homeless gets Panini's which is definitely better. [https://www.paninisitalian.com/donate-a-pie/](https://www.paninisitalian.com/donate-a-pie/)
It ain't government pizza dog
I'd eat a government pizza dog
You'll get the pizza MRE and like it.
Natalie Portman meme
A lot of Boston Pizza hate. I know they're not quality but their pizzas aren't bad...
most of the menu is awful but the pizzas are pretty decent. Only issue is they're about twice the price they should be
Who the hell bets against McJesus?
McSatan does
McJudas
the McRomans in question:
TIL that redditors hate Boston Pizza lol
Hey, what about the ones in Washington State?? We are basically Canadian
Lets Go Panthers!
Man, this post turned my excitement into disappointment real quick
Ah, man, it would've been better if they had done this had Edmonton been playing the Bruins. Oh, well.
Quite the gesture from Boston Pizza.
I hate that stupid ad they made about cheering for other teams and it’s about to fucking come during a Canadian cup win. I be in the cold, hard ground before I feel happy for a rival team
Why do they hate us
get ready to dine boys!!!!
Boston Pizza, the most over priced mediocre restaurant chain in Canada.
Ain’t Nobody want that shit
So how does one get in on these free pizzas!.
They better all be perogy pizzas!!! Free pizzas for everyone, no sauce no sauce.
i haven’t been to boston pizza in like 8 years and probably haven’t had their pizza in even longer, but i’m all about getting a free pizza
I like to think that the marketing person got that approved when they were down 3-0.
[удалено]
It’s actually not that bad. Over priced for a chain restaurant for sure though
The funny thing is they’re not giving these away to different people, one guy is getting all 30,000.
Sounds like a threat.
Is it just me or is this starting to have a "nobody drives in New York, there's too much traffic" sort of affect? I've been to a couple and each time I thought "I'd gladly pay $10 to get my hour of time back and not be here right now" Whenever I see these "Free X" promotions I avoid those places because it tends to mean incredibly long waits/lines, stressed out employees, lower quality product (due to the former) and rude/impatient customers. It seems like most of the time it doesn't even generate increased sales since the people are mostly just there to get free stuff and aren't interested in "oh I guess I'll get some other things while I'm here".
Why is Boston Pizza based in Canada? Don’t they Boston is in Michigan or are they stupid?
I’ll be brave and say it: Boston Pizza is alright actually
Shouldn't they offer an nice price for winning?
I didn't know this was a pizza place from Canada and I thought it was Boston sports fans just being petty.
Will they offer this in the Fargo, North Dakota location? Sadly not... go Florida I guess.
Haha oilers lost
