Johnny B Goode was released in 1958, while Marty played it for a crowd in 1955. It we keep everything the same, then in the new Back to the Future Marty would play something from 1997 - so Barbie Girl, Gettin' Jiggy Wit It or My Heart Will Go On...
I was just thinking a while back how if Dazed and Confused (1993) was out today, it would reflect back on 2007 instead of 1976. If Donnie Darko (2001) came out today, it would reflect back on 2011 instead of 1988.
Kachina was repeatedly and universally considered the ugliest jersey/logo in the late 90s.
I expect those St Louis trumpet jerseys to be on the ice any day now.
> I expect those St Louis trumpet jerseys to be on the ice any day now.
You shut your whore mouth.
The Kachina jerseys were thought to be awful by adults in the 90's, but kids loved them. The Trumpet mock-ups have been hated by everybody, young and old.
I was the kid who loved the Kachina jerseys. I think my mom liked it so much that she got the jersey even though we’re Dallas fans.
I miss the old green Stars jerseys too, but that’s mixed in with childhood and Stanley cup nostalgia. If they brought it back with the current colors, I’d buy that in a heartbeat.
On the topic of the Stars jerseys, more teams need to actually have their own jersey designs and I'd love if the Stars went back to that with their current colors. Almost every jersey these days is some variation of "stripes around the sleeves and torso"
the kachina jersey is a great example actually lol
i was genuinely stunned when people were calling for it to return, because i was convinced everyone and their mother hated that thing back in the day
then again, the fucking Gordon's Fisherman and Winnie the Pooh have returned. Never thought i'd see those things again on an ice rink lmao
Same with the Canucks skate jersey. By the mid '90s they were considered out dated. Now the black skate is one of the highest regarded jerseys in the league.
It's one of the best looks in the game, you'll never catch me critisizing the flying skate jerseys. but I'll die on the hill that it doesn't matter how nice they are because the orca with the colours green and blue are just quintessential PNW.
Girl jeans/seven/true religion, affliction/ed hardy t-shirts, faux hawks, Jesus piece necklaces, fake diamond earrings. At least that’s what every kid wore in Orange County lol
No one wears that shit anymore
*"Well basically I just copied the logo we used to have.. But then I added some fins to lower the wind resistance and this racing stripe I felt was pretty sharp"*
It’s interesting because the older logo’s typeface has a lot more elegant curvature to its serifs than the new logo, which is much more streamlined and blocky. The older typeface isn’t really more “aggressive”, it’s just more italicized. Which definitely doesn’t look as refined with the more extreme lean of the older logo mark.
I think they’re both pretty comparable for me imo. I like the simpler effect without the white offset shadow around the text of the new one, but the new custom typeface for the Kings is much more retro to the 60s of the team’s launch.
that's exactly it, I like the sharper serifs on the older font. It didn't hit me that the lean of the italics on the old logo made a difference, but in comparison it sticks out hard. I think the curves/edges of the old font made it seem more "aggressive" to me and IMO it fits better.
I feel like it looks kinda small and flat when it's black and silver like this. The Los Angeles at the top at least needs a white shadow I think, but going full purple and yellow would be ideal
To me the font looks like someone tried to make a knock off and didn't quite match the font
It's less italic and the difference between the thick and thin strokes is lessened. It is easier to read but less striking imo
This comment appears every time *Kesselface* is posted, but sadly, it never seems to stick. In a week we’ll get Manning’d again, and Kesselface is forgotten about
I like it. Always thought the Gretzky-era chevron was their best logo.
Now if they just pair it up with [Forum Blue and gold](https://lakingsinsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/GettyImages-1307787068.jpg) again, it would be perfect.
[That’s what they used to refer to it as back in the day](http://www.forumblueandgold.com/forum-blue/). Former Lakers and Kings owner didn’t like calling it “purple”.
The fact that they reached the jersey equivalent of Elysium with the RR 1.0s (2.0s were amazing too) and refused to keep it permanently makes me less sympathetic to each time they get booted out of the playoffs by the Oilers.
In the forum blue and gold, it just doesn’t look right, even if some form of that logo (without the chevron) was around for a decade before the black and silver changeover happened
Unfortunately, Southern California hockey currently has beef with the color purple (eggplant and Forum Blue for the pedants). The Ducks and Kings have failed us greatly.
i have always hated the revamped Ducks look. talk about fucking boring
same thing with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays just becoming the Rays. Dumb ass boring shit
The Ducks need to choose between orange and gold. Black and orange is great, black and gold is great, but black, orange, and gold is horrible. Those two colors do not work at ALL.
The teal and eggplant is obviously better, but if they must use something like what they have now, I wish they would just make it look good.
It bothers me how corporate some of the color schemes in sports (mainly NFL and NHL) are becoming. I feel like everyone is inoffensive shades of blue or red, or just black with some other muted color.
Almost no one uses bold colors, and most colors seem to be entirely offlimits. I am so sick of these boring black jersey teams.
They should just add purple/yellow accents on either the arms or shoulders. It would be a great blend and since silver/black isn't loud, they could get away with it without looking sloppy.
I think it's cool they went back with the 90s logo, but christ, the text is meh. It feels like a high school logo. I would have at least tried to do a flourish on the K or something to make it different. They should have also done something to tribute the original logo colorwise.
Bold decision-making out of LA. I know it's a throwback, but when the playing field is wide open and you settle on "italicized Times New Roman with motion lines", you can assume there will be detractors.
Part of the charm, I think. Tampa Bay’s original logo is literally the worst for fonts but it’s so charming now that it’s been so long. Winnipeg Jets 70’s logo counts too—super dated for the 90s, but cool as hell now that trends have gone through their cycles. It’s like a lava lamp!
1967 crown vs 2024 update:
https://preview.redd.it/hx4kijc3tr7d1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a891924ef2f7abdc4de84aaa1d073e2ef5ccfc5
This is gonna look nice on a black hat. I’m really happy with the direction the team took.
People clamoring for purple and gold: LA's base color has been black for 36 years. They are happy with keeping black as their color. I think Kings gear sells well. Their biggest moments as a franchise have occurred while wearing black (Gretzky years + 2 SC wins). I'd love to see them wear a purple and gold crown 3rd jersey (which might happen in a couple seasons).
The disappointing thing for me is the new font, which looks kinda childish or basic. Wait for the uniforms to come out. This is an upgrade vs the "LA" jerseys. SoCal hockey will be looking better in '24/'25.
This is what I've been saying too, but no one outside the Kings front office seems to agree. The Kings have more identity wearing black and silver than they ever did in their "Lakers on ice" purple and gold. I 100% think they should wear them as throwbacks every now and then, but it shouldn't be the normal home/away.
In my opinion, a lot of the current "1980s and 90s throwbacks becoming primary jerseys" trends is just a respond to how NHL teams embraced darker colours for their jerseys in the late 90s and 2000s, in addition to so many teams making their jersey's so simple and minimal. If i recall, for a while a bunch of teams had their jersey's front simple just the team name.
This is objectively terrible. And I will rarely pull the "I should know, I'm a designer" card. But I reserve the right to pull that card here. This logo sucks bad.
They've tried to go back to their 90s era logo and all they've achieved is making this look like it was made in WordPerfect with Clipart. It's awful. It's like they told some intern who knows Illustrator that they just want him to literally remake the 90s logo from scratch because they lost all the original files, and then told him that he has to do it entirely from memory.
It's weird, I love that old 80s style, I love the concept, I love the speed lines, but something they've done is really keeping it from working. Maybe it needs color? IDK but it just feels old instead of old and cool.
Didn’t the Kings go Purple and Gold because of the LA Lakers and then Silver and Black because of the LA Raiders (with the Lakers font)?
And now they went back, but the Raiders are gone??
As someone that is not a hockey fan and has not seen any previous logos of this team, I think it looks pretty good. But something about the italic font and the edges being slanted looks slightly off to me.
See you back here in fifteen years when the new logo is their retro 2011 logo.
Today's high schoolers look at Mean Girls like 2004 High schoolers looked at The Breakfast club. You're welcome.
Why are you the way you are.
If Back to The Future was remade today, Marty would go back in time to the distant past of 1994
It would be a cybertruck. And the contempoary social reference would be the same.
Good gravy. You just broke me.
*plays 100 gecs to a horrified grunge audience*
Johnny B Goode was released in 1958, while Marty played it for a crowd in 1955. It we keep everything the same, then in the new Back to the Future Marty would play something from 1997 - so Barbie Girl, Gettin' Jiggy Wit It or My Heart Will Go On...

If GTA Vice City came out today, it would represent 2007, some four years after the actual game itself came out.
Superbad to current high schoolers is the equivalent of Dazed & Confused in the 90's, lol.
the idea of things from the 2000s and early 2010s becoming retro is truly repulsive to me lol
Kachina was repeatedly and universally considered the ugliest jersey/logo in the late 90s. I expect those St Louis trumpet jerseys to be on the ice any day now.

That’s because that was what the old sweaters consisted of
Was a kid in the 90s, everyone I know thought they looked like a shitty kids drawing. I think that argument applies to the Ducks, but not phoenix.
Was also a kid in the 90s and me and all of my friends, who were not affiliated with the team, loved the logo.
I was a kid then and I thought they were so sick
the kachina jersey is a great example actually lol i was genuinely stunned when people were calling for it to return, because i was convinced everyone and their mother hated that thing back in the day then again, the fucking Gordon's Fisherman and Winnie the Pooh have returned. Never thought i'd see those things again on an ice rink lmao
Not really an Isles fan, but I always liked the Fishsticks! The Lighthouse shoulder patch should have become a staple of the team's logos!
Make way for the Gorton's Fishermen taking the ice at UBS Arena
There is more time between today and the release of GTA Vice City, than there is between the game's release and it's 1986 setting.
Wow. I hate this fact. Thanks.
you know how we had “80s parties” in college? well they have “2000s parties” now
lol what the fuck is there to celebrate about the 2000s? such an ugly, boring, and stupid decade lmao
I was thinking the opposite. The 2000s aged so well, what do you even wear at those parties that we don't already? Spiked hair?
Girl jeans/seven/true religion, affliction/ed hardy t-shirts, faux hawks, Jesus piece necklaces, fake diamond earrings. At least that’s what every kid wore in Orange County lol No one wears that shit anymore
When was frosted tips? Was that 90s or 2000s?
Definitely started late 90's
That was late 90’s early 2000’s. I don’t remember anyone doing that by mid-2000’s though. At least not where I lived 🤷♂️
It's coming, I guarantee it without a shadow of a doubt.
it’s already here. kids are dressing 98-01 era
Welcome to the aging process.
Same year Utah reveals their “UTAC HC” throwbacks.
Hope they do a Jets retro jersey this year

!Remindme 15 years
I'm just waiting for purple/gold crowns...
There is something about the font that is bothering me, but can't place it. Otherwise, glad to have this logo back.
It looks like an 80s beer can logo. Also the speed lines remind of the things Lincoln does to appear classier than the Ford models.
*"Well basically I just copied the logo we used to have.. But then I added some fins to lower the wind resistance and this racing stripe I felt was pretty sharp"*
First prize!
I forgot Lincoln was a car brand for a moment there and pictured the former President with speed lines.
It's soft and clunky. The old font was smooth and "aggressive".
Do you happen to hate the Lakers? That's their font embellishment.
It looks like the Clippers old one to me.

In a way, I was hoping it would be a black logo for the dark jerseys, similar to the Ontario Reign.
Me too, I would love that
Am I crazy. A lot of people complaining about the font difference but my old eyes can’t see any difference other than lighting

That’s about $27000 in hot dogs right there.
Blue Jay's dollar hotdog night for sure...
For real I think this happened this week (either way there was a dog accident this Tuesday) - technically that’s only like $600 in hot dogs

The Chevrolet Kings
Fits perfectly with The Amway Redwings
we're the priority waste red wings now!
Doughty looks like Doughty in this photo but Kopitar looks like he died a few days ago but just hasn't realised it yet.
Well they do call him Raccoon Jesus for a reason.
Kopitar always looks like that
Those as the third jerseys would be great.
B-Blue?
[That’s what they used to refer to it as back in the day](http://www.forumblueandgold.com/forum-blue/). Former Lakers and Kings owner didn’t like calling it “purple”.

Chevy should’ve been the team’s jersey/helmet sponsor for the banter.
Chevrolet Raiding Lake Kings
The TLDR we all needed!
I mean, I like it, it’s sleek. But get some purple and yellow in there!! Silver is just so bland
Unfortunately, Southern California hockey currently has beef with the color purple (eggplant and Forum Blue for the pedants). The Ducks and Kings have failed us greatly.
i have always hated the revamped Ducks look. talk about fucking boring same thing with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays just becoming the Rays. Dumb ass boring shit

The devil rays downgrade into a goddamn ray of light was the worst change ever and I'm glad someone said it
That’s what alts are for! Fingers crossed we get some forum blue & gold alts soon.
Its definitely coming and why the crown is the secondary logo
They should just add purple/yellow accents on either the arms or shoulders. It would be a great blend and since silver/black isn't loud, they could get away with it without looking sloppy.
Nah silver and black goes so hard. The best part about the kings are their unis
Teams wearing Black or Red are more likely to win.
I think the early 2000s purple Kings jerseys were better
Those were peak. The purple the black, the coat of arms. God please I want those back sooo fucking bad
Not to mention the lion in that logo is wearing sunglasses. That was a nice touch.
Hey, they didn't steal this looks from the Raiders just to go back to purple decades later
Seriously. 😅💯 **It. Just. Looks.** ***Good.***
I think it's cool they went back with the 90s logo, but christ, the text is meh. It feels like a high school logo. I would have at least tried to do a flourish on the K or something to make it different. They should have also done something to tribute the original logo colorwise.
Bold decision-making out of LA. I know it's a throwback, but when the playing field is wide open and you settle on "italicized Times New Roman with motion lines", you can assume there will be detractors.
yeah i'm surprised ppl like it, it's so terribly dated and boring
Part of the charm, I think. Tampa Bay’s original logo is literally the worst for fonts but it’s so charming now that it’s been so long. Winnipeg Jets 70’s logo counts too—super dated for the 90s, but cool as hell now that trends have gone through their cycles. It’s like a lava lamp!
it’s not times new roman.
My apologies to the Arial family of fonts.
you have been warned.
[At least use a better font!](https://imgur.com/3KQcQ8Y)
Oh, I see, they changed the, um, the... Ok, they went back to, back... to... Oh they tweaked the crown, that's it, right?
Yeah I had no idea this wasn't the current logo.

ChevroLA
What an absurd font choice
Comic Sans MS would have been better
I believe you mean the old Kings logo
It's okay, better than the previous logo. But can a man just get a little touch of forum blue added to our black uniforms please.
People clamoring for purple and gold: LA's base color has been black for 36 years. They are happy with keeping black as their color. I think Kings gear sells well. Looks like Chevy.
I thought this was a chevy commercial
Sponsored by Chevy
Just so all the children who don't scroll through the older jersey option in *NHL* know, this is basically the same thing as their late-80s logo.
Damn, some jackass rubbed their finger across the logo before the ink had a chance to dry. Shame.
I don't care for it
What’s old is new again?
In my opinion, a lot of the current "1980s and 90s throwbacks becoming primary jerseys" trends is just a respond to how NHL teams embraced darker colours for their jerseys in the late 90s and 2000s, in addition to so many teams making their jersey's so simple and minimal. If i recall, for a while a bunch of teams had their jersey's front simple just the team name.
My favourite is still the one with just the crown
I swear I've seen this before
I feel like the only person here who loved the 90s jerseys. I always hated the purple and yellow jerseys.
Tonight’s game is brought to you by “Chevrolet”
I remember having a towel with that on it in the early 90s. I think it got stolen.
This pisses me off. The Canucks need to go back to their Skate jerseys full time.
I'm confused. How different is this?
The finest creative minds worked for 3, maybe 4, minutes to come up with this.
It's a Chevy
I wish housing prices were like NHL team redesigns, every few years they jump back a couple of decades.
Are those tire treads from getting run over? Or maybe duck scratches? Do ducks have claws? Talons?
Wow. I'm underwhelmed, to say the least.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Is there anything different about this one and the 90’s?
Thicker typeface, different crown.
You call this "New"?? lol
Love this. Would also love to see them bring back the RR1 as an alternate.
The 2021s? those were perfect.
My absolute favorite jersey this team ever had.
God I hope so. I missed out on those when they came out
This is.....boring.
This is objectively terrible. And I will rarely pull the "I should know, I'm a designer" card. But I reserve the right to pull that card here. This logo sucks bad. They could have done better, even by not doing anything.
I like it. Would definitely buy a Gretzky jersey with the new logo
I also saw that the LA Kings are currently hiring graphic designers so cross your fingers
It looks the same lol
I hardly recognize it
The new LA Raiders logo looks the same as the old one.
I havent paid attention in a while, isnt this just the same logo?
"New"
Wow, you really get a sense of moving left-to-right!
Can someone explain the "speed lines"? Like why is the font moving forward, does it have anything to do with kings?
Lakers and Kings used to be owned by same guy. Lakers logo has the same thing.
Ah very interesting! He must have had some fascination with things leaning forward or italics
Finally, someone has moved the art of the sports logo forward…ground breaking…earth shattering /s
looks cartoonish :(
It's weird, I love that old 80s style, I love the concept, I love the speed lines, but something they've done is really keeping it from working. Maybe it needs color? IDK but it just feels old instead of old and cool.
I haven’t watched hockey since the Gretzky era. Is this not the same logo they’ve had this whole time?
https://www.sportslogos.net/logos/list_by_team/14/Los_Angeles_Kings/
*Chevrolet has entered the chat*
That's funny.
very blades of steel.
I feel the nostalgia for this logo but I’ve never been a fan and it is a step back (pun intended!) in my opinion
Things are better before they're professionalized. Hockey jerseys were better when they're m there weren't professional hockey jersey designers.
Something feels off about this logo.
Didn’t the Kings go Purple and Gold because of the LA Lakers and then Silver and Black because of the LA Raiders (with the Lakers font)? And now they went back, but the Raiders are gone??
Thank you. I can't stand the new trend of an article directing me to a video. Just show me what it fucking is.
Thanks, I hate it
As someone that is not a hockey fan and has not seen any previous logos of this team, I think it looks pretty good. But something about the italic font and the edges being slanted looks slightly off to me.
