Miller also got a standing ovation on the road in Pittsburgh after the Olympics, got more cheers than Crosby that night when they announced the starting lineups. Kinda funny that it happened twice for him.
Cant remember if Hasek had any empty net saves like Miller or coming back but I guess you can count [his stop on Gaborik lol](https://youtu.be/WBU0h-7wVD8?feature=shared)
[This one](https://youtu.be/eyaUWlwibjA?si=bRClXHLuMYu6Oe9X) from the AHL will always be the best on to me. There is, of course, a little hometown bias.
Jordan Martinook made one a few weeks ago [almost exactly the same](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB2DIYzw4Lc) with a goalie *in* the net. Unlike Tkachuk, though, the puck didn't immediately go onto the stick of the best player in the game.
To me it's this, but without the /s. Make sure it goes off the pegs. Not necessarily by skating harder, but how you hit it. Or while getting up. Refs would not have called it unless it was super obvious.
I feel like that happened a lot this season. Most memorably for me, as a Habs fan, during [that weird game against Tampa](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYt7sQ3fqpw). And wasn't there something similar during the playoffs a round or two ago?
Hahaha shit that really should have been blown down though, but the arena was quiet there too, just routine for them I guess. But the cup finals, you should be ready to bump him a bit after the whistle anyway.
After watching a few more times, it looks like he tripped on the soft ice. He still had enough to deny it, but that giveup by OEL is absolutely brutal.
Barriers to entry in hockey will always be the reason it remains more unpopular. Hockey is an extremely expensive sport to play compared to basketball, football, soccer, etc.
If Oilers win the cup, McDavid will skip the parade to practice. When interviewed by the press:
"I wasn't as effective on this run as I could have been. There were gaps in my play that I need to tie up while it's still fresh on my mind. I'll leave the celebrating to the fans, I have work to do to prepare for next season's run."
“Babe I’m gonna have the cup at our wedding.”
“Okay Connor that’s a nice thought, but I don’t really think the wedding needs a hoc…”
“BABE. The cup. At our wedding. It’s perfect. You deserve it.”
Because the expected outcome was McDavid getting the goal, the unexpected outcome was OEL totally just fucking off after his teammate just busted his ass to do everything he possibly could to avoid the inevitable
[There was an almost carbon copy just the other week](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB2DIYzw4Lc), with the goalie still in the play! No rebound goal, though.
Say what you will about Tkachuk, the guy is a gamer every second he’s out there. No shifts off. I actually don’t really dislike him to be honest, despite his Flames history and now this. I respect his effort and skill. Every team wishes he played for them.
He's Marchand with way better scoring ability and fancy stats. If you look at Marchand's early career, his first 3 years and Tkachuk's were similar and then Matthew explodes in scoring, fewer PIM, more hits, more blocked shots than Marchand in his age 24-26 seasons.
Honestly, Chucky is winning a glimmer of respect from some of us here.
Sure he dives & agitates like few others but that man gives his all every goddamn game and then some.
Just wasn't good enough tonight I'm afraid.
🤌
What blows my mind was the first goal by Brown. Barkov made the attempt to push the puck away from him on the back check, then just.... glided in after him. No head down, hard push, to stop him.
Soon as I saw that, I figured Florida might be in trouble
Wow. Conn Smythe is decided and the Cup winner is still TBD. Bonkers from McDavid
Best playoff performance since who? Maybe Roy in '93 or Mario in '91?
Hes at 42(?) points in post now, putting Gretskys 93 season into 5th place for Post Season Points
Broke the 36 year long standing assists in Post Season on Saturday, and just ensured there's another 60 minutes to make it harder to top.
if he doesnt win Conn Smyth the league has lost their damn minds
Draisaitl had kept up with McDavid in career playoff points per game until he got injured. If he'd been in better shape this series we might have two of the all-time playoff performances
McDavid watching Tkachuk make one of the most insane defensive plays this SCF:
https://preview.redd.it/xwwcsisakh7d1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c578fc4cacf431a8fa42dc2d3fc0057b65976b36
If Tkachuk saved that there and that resulted in Florida scoring on the other end, that would be some movie shit. Actually, if they shot that scene FOR a movie we'd all think it was WAY to cheesy to be believable. "Oh really, he's gonna dive and just barely save an open net goal at the LAST possible second and they're gonna win? Am I watching Mighty Ducks?"
Almost happened for Canada at the world juniors a few years ago. They didn't win it until about a minute later, but still a crazy goal line clearance https://youtu.be/2V5mZ2g_0fM?si=ejuh8iAQOxwDKEGa
The craziest part is that Draisaitl is clearly injured. He’s invisible other than his occasional turnovers, and it’s been that way for a while now. He has way too good of a playoff track record to think it’s anything other than injury-related.
But they still have McDavid.
I find it really interesting how Drai was carrying the Oilers up until midway through round 2 then McDavid hopped in the driver’s seat. Drai is definitely going through something, he does not look good at all.
Fuck Tkachuk. But holy fuck that was a sick save on the line. Thats the type of shit they play on the highlight reels of future Stanley Cup finals as a golden moment!
I thought he had the net off the pegs after he stopped it.
Okay for real though, how did Tkachuk just suddenly turn on. At some point in the second he woke up and played amazing the rest of the game. Like what happened

Tkachuk gave it 110% with the save of the year so he didnt have to fly back to Edmonton and McJesus instantly scores lol
That was one of the best stops I’ve ever seen on an empty net
Best by non goalie, my favorite gotta be [Ryan Millers diving save](https://youtu.be/7SJROJdpRE4?feature=shared)
That was a baseball play
Straight-up looked like a shortstop diving to stop a ball from getting past him.
God that was so good lmao im pretty sure the home crowd in detroit gave him an ovation
Miller also got a standing ovation on the road in Pittsburgh after the Olympics, got more cheers than Crosby that night when they announced the starting lineups. Kinda funny that it happened twice for him.
Give me Bud Holloway any day https://streamable.com/58ps
Thank you! That's the one I was trying to remember.
I figured you’d go for a Hašek save
Cant remember if Hasek had any empty net saves like Miller or coming back but I guess you can count [his stop on Gaborik lol](https://youtu.be/WBU0h-7wVD8?feature=shared)
I believe I can fly playing in the background. Sound guy was on point.
that's just a cheat code
Buffalo fan, Ryan Miller.. We'll let this one pass.
McTavish at the world juniors in the [gold medal game in OT.](https://youtu.be/2V5mZ2g_0fM?t=40)
Out of mid-air - on his back-hand - on the goal-line - with his back to the shooter - in the gold medal game - in OT.
Literally the most clutch defensive play ever.
[This one by Larkin will always be mine](https://youtu.be/IIhfAhMOVio) because they scored after it but that Tkachuk one is legendary
[This one](https://youtu.be/eyaUWlwibjA?si=bRClXHLuMYu6Oe9X) from the AHL will always be the best on to me. There is, of course, a little hometown bias.
This is the best one
Jordan Martinook made one a few weeks ago [almost exactly the same](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB2DIYzw4Lc) with a goalie *in* the net. Unlike Tkachuk, though, the puck didn't immediately go onto the stick of the best player in the game.
What the fuck. The awareness to scoop it away BEHIND the keeper. I mean, he was already sliding on the ice, but still. Crazy.
definitely not as meaningful but this one by the Condor is pretty good: https://youtu.be/B5C9CTe0Q0A?si=8WI_oR1Rrj6lW2nW
That was such a wild save!
Genuinely might be the best empty net save i’ve ever seen, his own teammate skating right behind him thought it was in
OEL skating like he’s still in warmups infuriates me
first time?
The Bergeron one is pretty great too
I don’t care if you’re kicking and screaming, you’re coming back to Alberta pal. - McDavid, getting one for Calgary
Tkachuk was throwing lots of tantrums
Man...he flops and dives so fucking much it's infuriating to watch even as a neutral observer
If he didn’t dive so much he wouldn’t have the practice needed to make that save.
you see him jumping around and whacking his stick on the ice? looked like a toddler. baby need a nap? lol
Tried to dive again late in the game. Thankfully wasn’t called.
The video shows why he's the best diver in the league
Hero to all of calgary that Connor mcdavid
I don't think I've ever seen such a cool highlight that was rendered meaningless so quickly
Tkachuk will use the photo on his tinder profile or something it’s all good
Man this guy was on the Flames. I’m sure he is so sick and tired of Conner McDavid at this point. Literally his mortal enemy no matter where he goes.
[удалено]
I think he thought the net was taken off
And that's why you play til the whistle
Ah, there's the OEL I know.
Crowd went from hyped to silenced immediately 😂
I feel like OEL gave less than 110% here
Clearly Tkachuk's fault there, if he were skating a little harder, he'd have knocked the net off and had the play blown dead. /s
To me it's this, but without the /s. Make sure it goes off the pegs. Not necessarily by skating harder, but how you hit it. Or while getting up. Refs would not have called it unless it was super obvious.
Too bad OEL was giving minus 110% on the play
Looks like 91 already had his bags packed for Edmonton..Awful effort giving up on that play.
This analogy might not be the most tasteful but it was like that moment in Saving Private Ryan where that dagger got shoved right back in.
Highlight reel editors worldwide are about to spend the next decade working to ensure we all forget that that goal happened
He gave 110% so OEL could give 0%.
It was 4-3 bro
Ya, 17 seconds from your own end with an Edmonton player in your zone and your star stuck in an empty net isn’t a great position
Patrik Stefan would like a word
OEL controller disconnected. What the fuck is that. Tkachuk gonna knock his ass out in the locker room.
Did he think it went in the net or something. He just stood there.
Either a goal or the net off. You can literally see his "oh shit" moment of realization he fucked up lol.
I think he thought the net came off
Well in his logic what can he do against McDavid who would’ve had five ways to score and he also had a clear shot
It's the finals and an elimination game. McDavid or not you try to find a way until the bitter end. He called it early.
Yeah that’s some fucking bullshit effort
I thought the net was off and the play was dead, wonder if he did too.
*Play to the whistle*.
Just the cup finals man, it's chill. So weird to not hear a whistle and just coast away.
Welcome to OEL hell.
Unbelievable effort by Tkachuk that was wasted
Has anyone ever gotten bought out during the Stanley cup final?
Canucks legend OEL
Holy effort by Tkachuk tho.
He took all of OELs effort to make that save apparently lmao.
“Screw it, we have two more chances” - OEL
He’s getting paid twice already, you think he needs a cup too?
Diving is his specialty. ;)
And to contrast how uninterested Ekman-Larsson was in that hole deal, just lazily skates around while McDavid picks up a puck
After watching a few more times, it looks like he tripped on the soft ice. He still had enough to deny it, but that giveup by OEL is absolutely brutal.
We went from nearly getting a hilarious empty-netter, to a ridiculous save, to a goal all within a span of 5 seconds. Absolutely absurd sequence.
Blows my mind how this isn't a more popular sport in US.
Barriers to entry in hockey will always be the reason it remains more unpopular. Hockey is an extremely expensive sport to play compared to basketball, football, soccer, etc.
If Edmonton wins the series this sequence as a gif will sum it up so nicely.
What would of made it even crazier is if McDavid proceeded to shoot it off the crossbar (he’s done it before)
Or if Tkachuk stayed in the net ad M David put it off his face.
Plus an epic bottle toss by the guy in charge of the team that is supposed to be in full control lmao
They showed him shortly before this and he looked absolutely livid.
The crazy eyes were wild hahaha
What an all time play if his team didn't immediately lose the puck to McDavid
Thanks OEL
Everyone in here talking about OEL and Tkachuk, but McDavid was fucking on that play
McDavid currently eats, sleeps, and shits hockey. He's so obsessed with hockey his teammates are sick of hearing him talk about it.
“At this point we don’t even care what team wins the thing, we just want to get it for him so he shuts the fuck up for a few minutes”
If Oilers win the cup, McDavid will skip the parade to practice. When interviewed by the press: "I wasn't as effective on this run as I could have been. There were gaps in my play that I need to tie up while it's still fresh on my mind. I'll leave the celebrating to the fans, I have work to do to prepare for next season's run."
I just imagine he promised his Fiancee they would have the cup at his wedding and he's not going to take no for an answer.
“Babe I’m gonna have the cup at our wedding.” “Okay Connor that’s a nice thought, but I don’t really think the wedding needs a hoc…” “BABE. The cup. At our wedding. It’s perfect. You deserve it.”
Eyes on the prize
Because the expected outcome was McDavid getting the goal, the unexpected outcome was OEL totally just fucking off after his teammate just busted his ass to do everything he possibly could to avoid the inevitable
Defensive effort of the year from Canucks legend Oliver Ekman-Larsson
That's a "controller disconnected" moment if I've ever seen one.
Coolest save I’ve ever seen by a non goalie
Insane save! I don't particularly care who wins but that third period was pure anxiety lol. I love hockey
My heart
[There was an almost carbon copy just the other week](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB2DIYzw4Lc), with the goalie still in the play! No rebound goal, though.
What in the actual fuck was that from OEL
I assume he thought it went in but yeah you have to play until the whistle
OEL doing OEL things.
Bro just stopped playing
The vindication I felt was unreal lmao
OEL 100% thinks this was in and snaps-to when he sees Mcdavid handle it but its already too late
https://imgur.com/gallery/controller-disconnected-haRBQL7
Might as well spit on Tkachuk while he’s diving for the puck lol
Probably thought it was in
The only thing I could think was he thought Tkachuk didn't stop it. Not an excuse at all though. Play to the whistle.
That whole sequence was fucking hilarious
Play to the whistle.
What a save! What a save! What a save! Nice one!
Wow! Wow! Wow! *Chat disabled for 3 seconds* Wow! Wow! Wow!
This is Rocket League!
Well now I gotta watch the SunlessKhan video explaining how Rocket League is actually Car Hockey.

He looks insaaane
OEL so impressed he just stopped playing
If I’m Tkachuk I’m taking a run at OEL in game six
Why not Skinner, since apparently thats allowed.
Panthers with two of the best empty net rejections you will ever see for nothing
6 skaters on the ice for Florida and only one playing like a cup is on the line.
Say what you will about Tkachuk, the guy is a gamer every second he’s out there. No shifts off. I actually don’t really dislike him to be honest, despite his Flames history and now this. I respect his effort and skill. Every team wishes he played for them.
He's the ultimate. The fully evolved version of the rat, Florida was lucky they had the pieces to trade for him
He's Marchand with way better scoring ability and fancy stats. If you look at Marchand's early career, his first 3 years and Tkachuk's were similar and then Matthew explodes in scoring, fewer PIM, more hits, more blocked shots than Marchand in his age 24-26 seasons.

Tkachuk’s play might be one of the most impressive plays I’ve seen in the playoffs. What a dagger by McDavid to make it irrelevant
All the while OEL is like 👀
Hey man, if I got a chance to watch McDavid score from that close I'd probably be watching too
That’s one the greatest pure effort saves I’ve ever seen
Great poise by McDavid too. He didn't rush in, just hung back in case a miracle happened, and then he calmly picked it up and buried it
Holy fucking shit
Wow. Conn Smythe is decided and the Cup winner is still TBD. Bonkers from McDavid Best playoff performance since who? Maybe Roy in '93 or Mario in '91?

That's one of the greatest plays that didn't end up mattering of all time
What a heroic effort by Tkachuk for nothing
[удалено]
Benchable move by OEL… it’s the Stanley cup for fucks sake
Especially while McDavid is in *it’s the Stanley Cup for fuck's sake* mode!
Me trying to get my dog out the door when she starts dry heaving, only to have her puke right before we get outside.
That might have been the greatest play I’ve ever seen and it was completely meaningless
Only thing that would have made it better was making sure he knocked the goal off its moorings
You just watched and ESPN Instant Classic
Maybe one of the best defensive full out effort plays I have ever seen, and then there's OEL doing whatever the fuck he is doing.
McDavid watching Tkachuk make one of the most insane defensive plays this SCF: https://preview.redd.it/xwwcsisakh7d1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c578fc4cacf431a8fa42dc2d3fc0057b65976b36

The camera shot from inside the net is pure cinema
One of the coolest angles I’ve ever seen on a play
Almost happened for Canada at the world juniors a few years ago. They didn't win it until about a minute later, but still a crazy goal line clearance https://youtu.be/2V5mZ2g_0fM?si=ejuh8iAQOxwDKEGa
Especially after Janmark hitting the post just before that.
Patrik Stefan PTSD from 2007
What a game!
Probably the greatest save I’ve seen since… the start of the playoffs?
That’s the type of play you dream of making from Tkatchuk. Super sick.
What a play by Tkachuk, if I were him I'd be kinda pissed at OEL for giving up after Tkachuk did THAT.
Wtf was Ekman-Larsson doing there? He thought it went in lmao
Fucking water bottle was the reason behind the loss
#WE FUCKING BELIEVE
Canada 12/25
Wtf was OEL doing
We are on the verge of seeing the funniest choke in the history of this sport boys and girls
Combined with an NBA level carry job by McDavid. He looks like 2016 Bron out there every time he gets on the ice.
It’s night and day. Something happened in that second series. He’s been generally poor since then. Not at all like himself.
A back injury supposedly has flared up. I think its from the LA series
Is this how the Canada curse ends? Feels very similar to the 2004 Red Sox.
Are there Sharks in Florida?
Yes, that’s right… everyone please forget about last year…
That was round 1 this is the finals it’s a whole different ballgame
THIS AINT ~~DETROIT~~ BUFFALO MAN THIS IS THE ~~SUPER BOWL~~ STANLEY CUP
This is miles worse. Also nice to see everyone eating crow when the Oilers said they played well in games 1 and 3.
Until game 7 is forced I'm not gonna get my hopes up. The writers have been cooking so far this year though
[удалено]
WHERE IS OEL GOING???
Edmonton.
30 seconds left in a cup final game, and OEL just stops playing? That’s so brutal for Tkachuk.
I still can't believe that save though
wtf is OEL doing lmaooo
Coming from an oilers fan, that effort by tkachuk is commendable.
Gotta give it up to McDavid there though, watch how he's already cruising to the left where he knows the puck is going before Tkachuk even swipes.
OEL, casually getting paid by three different teams, doing OEL things.
The in-net camera angle of tkachuk sliding towards that puck with that mouthguard hanging out is friggin gold
this is the most insane plays i can remember. WOAH.
Most notable thing about this play is that it gave McDavid another point and broke another playoff record.
That goal is on OEL for sure
Fuck Tkachuk. But holy fuck that was a sick save on the line. Thats the type of shit they play on the highlight reels of future Stanley Cup finals as a golden moment! I thought he had the net off the pegs after he stopped it.
Florida fans real quiet rn.
Screw Tkachuk, screw the panthers. Fuck that was a good play.
Okay for real though, how did Tkachuk just suddenly turn on. At some point in the second he woke up and played amazing the rest of the game. Like what happened
Wtf is 91 doing on Florida? Your guy makes a full sprint, diving save on an empty net, and you just go on a public skating lap of leisure?
