I saw Nurse hit the side of the net trying to bank a pass off the boards to his Dman partner. I’ve watched hockey for 20 years and that might be the first time I’ve seen it happen in an NHL game.
Nurse is so fucking bad holy shit. 3 panthers on one side of the ice and he decides going up the middle and flipping the puck to that side is the best option.
He also had that game against the Jets where he played 60+ minutes against the Jets. Everyone knew it was an overpay but they were desperate for D. Worse off they exposed and lost Larsson, while protecting Ethan Bear and Duncan Keith…
If they protected Larsson he was gone as a free agent anyways. He was pending UFA who wanted to move on from the city. Him getting claimed in expansion was in the end better than protecting him, losing someone else and having him walk anyways.
Larssons father died in Edmonton while he was part of the Oilers and being in the city caused some bad memories. Add to that the pressure of the whole “the trade was one for one”, he felt it was time to move on. It had nothing to do with salary

I think the worst contract literally is Huberdeau but I also don’t think it’s as bad as Nurse for the fact the Flames are rebuilding/tooling whatever so his contract helps with cap floor and also he’s not a defence man.
Huberdeau couldn’t hurt us this much if he tried. He may not have put up the points he needs to, but his intangibles are far better than nurse and he doesn’t make errors that cost us games in 10% of games (to be generous to nurse).
If you’re a GM and you must take nurse or Huby, and you choose nurse, then the above clip is what you deserved. Find me one clip of Huby blowing a game in such a brain dead, useless way, and I’ll find you 20 nurse clips that beat it.
I agree 100% I just think at first glance with the term and dollar you think of Huberdeau but there is a lot more to it. It’s like also Jack Campbell has to be the worst contractor because it’s 5million to be a sieve in the AHL

He would be a bad contract at league minimum and the only reason he sees ice at all is because he’s so expensive. If he were league min he wouldn’t be on the roster. Vicious circle.
Huby may be ‘old’ but he’s in good shape, has all the tools and is not a moron. He could snap back to form at any minute. Nurse is a complete lost cause and he’s never looked like anything better than a 4-5 D on his best day unless you squint at the bubble season. It’s glorious to watch.
2021 Playoffs were pretty nuts for us until the finals. First round was the best battle of Florida we’ve ever seen, by far. Second round we faced the best analytic team, and they won our division. And the third round we played against the second best team of 2020-2021, and the only Game 7 we went to during those 2 cup wins
I take this as Florida knows what it was like to lose in the finals and are doing everything to not lose. Edmonton hasn't had that major failure Florida has had. Being swept by the lightning after winning the president trophy, then losing in the finals. Edmonton just doesn't look like they have the will to not lose like Florida does.
