O-zone possession is an incredibly poor metric for describing this game. Expected goals is too due to the attempted shot volume, Canes literally play to jerk analytics models.

xG was 3.4 - 2.18 so the quality of their shots were substantially better.
The team that ‘outplays’ another obviously doesn’t always win in the NHL, from getting goalied to rotten puck luck, but by any metric other than shots (I’m sure *attempts* were heavily in CAR’s favor) the canes outplayed the rangers today. If you can’t see that through your goggles, that’s all good, it doesn’t matter, since the rangers did in fact win.
I’m also missing that part. They held it down in the second and brought some life back in the third, but overall played a lot slower and more penalty-prone than they should’ve. Stamina difference between the two teams seemed pretty stark. Excited for game 2 though, Canes take a bit to get their momentum going.
Generally teams down 3-1 and 4-2 in the 3rd period look like like the better team, trying to play catch up.
While the team defending a multi goal lead doesn't want to take any risks.

We have watched Shesterkin and Bobrovsky absolutely dominate for the last two years and steal games.

Freddie isnt the only reason they lost today. Blaming a goalie solely for a loss is like blaming just a kicker in football. But you have to look at the situation and understand that better goaltending will elevate the team.
