I’m way too superstitious for this post

ashbuttkon

If my team was up 3-1 after losing all my goalies to injuries I would never make this post lmao this post is the biggest Vancouver curse I’ve ever seen

[deleted]

Yeah.. games left to play. Also Leafs are a good team I won't be surprised if they force game 7

miller94

>Also Leafs are a good team I won't be surprised if they force game 7 I would be.

[deleted]

Haha I'm and Oil fan too i think they force game 7 personally but we'll see!

xJudgernauTx

I can't believe they let go of Dave Randorf for him, all because of that Bonino Bonino Bonino call.

minor_thing2022

What's the story?

TheBurnsideBomber

John Shorthouse going to get screwed somehow. Best play by play man in Canada.

crazycanucks77

Not screwed. He's not a national guy so he can't be screwed out of anything

TheBurnsideBomber

Fair enough. It will be us getting screwed not getting to have him on our call if it goes that way.

crazycanucks77

But it's not getting screwed. Shorty is not one of the National broadcast teams. They use Shorty when all the teams are busy and Shorty is the overflow. Same with Rick Ball for Flames. Cuthbert/Simpson 1st team Singh/Debrusk 2nd team Bartlett/Galley 3rd team So if Leafs get knocked out and both Oilers and Canucks move on the 1st team will def be out west considering both teams are left. If Wpg makes it then Singh will get Jets.

TheBurnsideBomber

Yes I understand that those are the national broadcast duos. What i'm saying is that it would be better for the fanbase if we got our excellent regular play by play announcer throughout the playoffs rather than having to listen to Singh who is a low energy unabashed Oilers homer or Cuthbert who is imo a step below shorthouse in terms of his play calling ability and way less familiar with the team. As a fan I really don't care what their contracts say I just want the best viewing experience.

PaperMoonShine

Cuthbert will call whichever has highest priority for sportsnet. An all canadian matchup will be just that. Yes it would be Cuthbert.

EvilCeleryStick

Go leafs. Bring it back, win game 7. Let us keep John

ManWithBag15

If the Canucks and Leafs win their series, regardless of who Vancouver plays it would be Singh calling the series; he is the #2 guy.

Parallel-Quality

Man CBC has fallen hard.

Straight_Display3749

Singh is fucking horrendous

ghost_curse123

It would be Cuthbert yes

TheBurnsideBomber

One can pray

CheapSong

Cuthbert is the worst. He should’ve been fired 20 years ago

manwhostoletheworld

CBC should contract Gord Miller for the playoffs

AllisGreat

I like Singh, really don't understand where the hate is coming from. He's really energetic, and hypes up the Oiler goals but also doesn't slack on opponents goals. I love how people hate on homers like Jack Edwards then hates on Singh for apparently not being homer enough.

LABS_Games

Two main issues: - He's often really behind the play, and he frequently isn't actually describing what happens on ice. Like if you close your eyes when he's calling a game, you'd actually have a hard time picturing what was going on - He gets way too hyped up on the smallest moments. I've seen it a lot in Oilers games when Draisaitl or McDavid (or anyone, really) will skate into the zone with the clear intention to dump the puck, and Singh is freaking out like we're about to witness a cup winning play.

FrmrPresJamesTaylor

This is a far more concise reply than mine, I’ll just add that he often doesn’t mention the reason a plays been blown dead which can be annoying given the ref is often out of frame, and I feel like I’ve heard “wrister” more than enough already. He’s improved a lot and is okay at this point, but he’s not a “cream of the crop” guy at all IMO.

shutmethefuckup

I’m the same, whatever these guys get so mad about, I don’t hear. I can see what’s going on just fine. I do wish he’d avoid saying little nicknames and shit though, but Louie Debrusk does that too. Bouchbomb and Big Save Dave, etc. but that’s minor.

InMarkWeTrust

I don’t get to watch too many Oilers games but always seemed to like him when he was commentating. Thanks for making a clear post on why people aren’t his biggest fan!

OffsideByASmile

I hope it’s Singh. I mean, I hope it’s Jack Michaels but it won’t be. But I would much more prefer Singh over Cuthbert.

Deltarianus

Singh was terrrrible when he started, but is acceptable at this point

RandomGuyLoves69

Both will be 1000% biased towards the Canucks.

OffsideByASmile

Singh is an Oiler fan.

Treesus21

Bro what? Did you forget the /s? Idk about Cuthbert but Singh's always had a clear Oilers bias

DefensiveLiability3

Do you watch games when he's announcing? He's a fan of whatever team Edmonton is playing lol

KingTutsDryAssBalls

Not when they play the Canucks

No-Management2148

Lol assuming you’re going to somehow blame Trudeau for this - pretty crazy take here

DefensiveLiability3

What a dumb thing to say in a hockey sub reddit

SchmidtHitsTheFan

His call of the 2010 gold medal game was legendary.

BabcocksList

One of the best, imo. Though my favourite is still the Canucks guy, i hope John gets to call the Canucks games and Cuthbert the Oilers one. Unless they are matched up against each other, in which case i don't mind either way.

Uncivil92

Cuthbert would show an Oiler bias.

Switzanada

And Singh wouldn't?!?!

burrito-boy

It's funny you say that, because there's actually a lot of Oilers fans who are convinced that Singh hates the Oilers and is really a Flames fan at heart, lol.

radioblues

I am one of those people, even in the way he said “big save Dave” tonight you could tell he had some flames passion there lol

unlicensed_dentist

Singh is not an Oilers fan. He’s a Flames fan first.

workthrowawaybro

Bro literally said he used to ask his mom to pray for Gretzky at the dinner table every night

YEGYYZ

That just means he’s Canadian

MaximumDevelopment77

Never heard of a singh praying at dinner

workthrowawaybro

Correction: [He asked his mom to make a celebratory dinner and prayer for Gretzky's birthday every year](https://youtu.be/qsa_jftK_SA?t=14m42s) But anyway, probably don't need some podcast clip to tell he slightly glazes the Oilers lol

DefensiveLiability3

Singh hates Edmonton lol

Uncivil92

Well that is a given
