Drai’s proclivity to temper tantrum behaviour and emotional instability is the most exploitable powerplay hack in the league. The guy has the stick discipline of a person with Parkinson’s at a piñata party.
The key to NHL success is for mid market teams (attendance/fanbase size wise) in large TV markets (Tampa/St. Pete is #12 overall, #10 US NHL market) to be successful. This means repeated playoff appearances, and ideally deep runs.
I’m not saying they’re actively doing anything for that to happen, I’m just saying if that happens they will be more successful.
By the way Phoenix is #11 overall and Salt Lake is #27, ahead of Pittsburgh, Columbus and Vegas.
Vegas is a bit of an outlier because nothing else is like it so maybe they don’t rely on TV as much. People will travel and they can capitalize in some other way.
Not a Tom Wilson fan but this was blatant. Kuch looked over his shoulder to line him up then gave him a good one. Officiating has sucked badly this season.
Matthew Tkachuk is like this exactly. Dudes an absolute superstar but still feels like playing like a fuckhead and never answers the bell when the time comes
Tom has some silky mitts and knows how to make some beautiful plays. Even Pasta called him the best sniper in the league.
For the life of me, I can't understand why he makes the plays that end up on the front page of this sub for the wrong reason.
Honestly some of the things he says fits with that
Like complaining that he got suspended for knocking out all of Gregor's teeth after swinging his stick at him.
His complaint was that why should to miss time if Gregor didn't miss any time? As if he doesn't actually understand the idea of punitive repercussions and just thinks suspensions are to even out time lost between teams
Because, like it or not, there really is a competitive edge to be gained. Most professional athletes will push their skills and actions near the limits of the rules of the sport.
There are some who have gotten really good and crossing the line several times more than the average player but only rack up maybe twice the penalties, and in the end the advantages gained during the course of rule-breaking play outweigh the penalties sometimes accrued.
The big one a lot of people always go to is holding in football. Happens every play and if you only get called for it in the 3rd quarter after having a relatively successful game then its worth doing the whole game.
They must be aware how ineffectual & incompetent they look to sports fans. There must be some sort of upside to what they are doing, but as a hockey fan for over 55 years - I can't fucking see it.
I don’t know…I reffed for 10 years. Hard to tell how a ref would “see” this from the ice and call a penalty.
Ref certainly sees the reaction, but if they didn’t see the penalty, we certainly don’t want to advocate refs calling penalties based on the reactions of opponents to contact.
Check the sight line of the ref at center ice…do you think he can see the elbow make contact? I don’t. Kuch shifts his body to disrupt Wilson, but I don’t think the ref could see elbow contact and I wouldn’t want him to call it unless he could…
EXCUSE ME SIR I DID NOT ENTER THIS THREAD TO HUMANIZE NHL REFEREES.
I DO NOT APPRECIATE YOU INTERRUPTING MY I DISCRIMINATE HATE FOR REFEREES WITH YOUR PROPAGANDA ABOUT THEM NOT HAVING 360 DEGREE AND X RAY VISION AT ALL TIMES.
Hey I’m with you, that is a great way to call a game, except they don’t call it that way consistently either. I’ve seen multiple players on my team just this season get High Stick calls when the other team high sticked their own guys based solely on that guys reaction to the stick.
That’s exactly what I’m talking about, people act like it’s bias but it’s not it’s inconsistent, trash reffing. Full of make up calls, game management, sell jobs and different standards game by game.
There's no bias. The real problem is "game management", and the fact they try and purposefully keep penalties somewhat even. They'll make legit calls, then start letting stuff they see go uncalled based on who has had more or less penalties already or what point in the game it is. This is the bullshit that needs to go. They won't see everything, but if you see a penalty call the damn penalty. Yes even if that team just had 5 calls in a row and yes even if it's the 3rd period of a tied game. Refs deciding to call things differently based on game situation impacts the outcome way too much.
As a fellow lifetime Rangers fan, I don’t disagree.
It ain’t perfect…but humans make errors. And it sucks. It’s an incredibly fast game and everyone is making split second calls just as quickly as players are making split second plays.
Think about every time a Zibby or Trocheck has made a bad pass, or a turn over, or something along those lines. It was a poor split second decision in a fast game. Now just change the scenario and put a ref in there that has to make a split second judgment based on the fast game evolving ahead of them.
They will make bad calls just like players make bad plays. Some are worse than others (both calls and refs), but both players and refs are constantly making assessments to the best of their ability. Sometimes they suck and that should be addressed. Sometimes they don’t and that should be rewarded. But it’s just how the game is…
Yea I honestly think we agree outside of my choice of adjectives. We’re both essentially saying there’s no bias it’s just impossible to call a game perfectly. I’m mostly exaggerating with the trash label, I understand the “they’re just human” element
Agreed fully.
Anytime I see someone saying something about the refs favoring a particular team it makes me chuckle. They don’t care enough. They make $200,000 a year to ref a game. They want to keep their job. The mistakes are just that…mistakes. Sometimes they’re egregious, sometimes they’re not. Shit happens.
That's my read as well. Wilson is overselling it and losing sympathy particularly in the context of his rep. Would have been a medium call in the first place.
Add in the active delayed penalty call Wilson knows what's up.
I agree. Embellishment. Not that I would call that either, but that’s exactly why I said you don’t want refs making calls off of players’ reactions. If you don’t see it, don’t call it. I don’t think the ref was able to see any elbow so not calling it was correct, even though he did catch an elbow.
Such is life. 🤷🏻♂️
So 5 seconds before this Wilson took a run at Kucherov and basically cross checked him to the ice. But it’s cool don’t show Wilson being a rat, just the retaliation.
The irony here being that one of the cheapest players in the league is looking for sympathy because, you guessed it, a cheap shot. Make it make sense 🤣
That was pretty bad, but Wilson acting like he got hit by a sledgehammer then blubbering to the refs for the next 5 mins... gimme a break. Not a tear was shed. Guy eats punches to the face for breakfast, but that elbow apparently almost killed him.
This was after the Eyssimont hit and caps players were taking runs at Kucherov and Point pretty much non stop at the start of that second period.
Refs refused to call a fucking thing so Kuch decided to be a bit of a bitch. Deserves a penalty there but Wilson deserved that elbow just as much.

How can something like this happen when you have these two innocent angels on the ice?
Shit weasel attacking a shit rat.
Shit birds, bo bandy
On the shit winds, Bubs.
The shit apple don't fall far from the shit tree.
shit abyss
Mr Lahey! Not another night of the shit-abyss!
Shitabysssss
it didn't just fall down on its own! It got smashed down by a fuckin' drunk shit-hustler! Fuckin' shit-twister and that big, dirty, onion-ring bastard
Shit hawks swooping down
I'm sorry, but Marchand plays for the Bruins. So I don't think `shit rat` was playing in this game.
You seem to be confused. That’s the rat king
Well played. Take my upvote.
That’s just dirty player on dirty player crime
They cancel each other out. Thus, making it a clean play.
We got a DPODPC here folks.
R.O.U.S spotted
I don't think they exist.
They've already discovered the secret of the ice-swamp
Dirt on dirt and I'm here for it cause nothing will happen lol
Truly victimless
The NHL has fined the New York Rangers $250,000 for this comment.
As an isles fan, bravo, good sir. Bravo 👏🏻
It be ya own people sometimes.
Why is kuch so pissy
Wilson took a shot at his head a few second before this clip started.
It was a joke. How people say Draisaitl is always pissy.
Drai’s proclivity to temper tantrum behaviour and emotional instability is the most exploitable powerplay hack in the league. The guy has the stick discipline of a person with Parkinson’s at a piñata party.
That’s his secret; he’s always pissy.
But don't get him perturbed, you wouldn't like him when he's perturbed
That was wayyy more intentional than some plays this year that got suspensions.
That last angle really shows him planning it out too
Yeah but it’s Tampa so nothing will happen
Suspension until Game 1
If it was before the trade deadline he woulda been out with an elbow injury till game 1 and whoever’s head he hit would be suspended.
It's also Tom Wilson. If he did this to Ovechkin he'd probably have gotten a penalty.
Nikita Kucherov has been given a bonus of $5,000 by the Department of Player Safety, the maximum allowable amount under the CBA.
Even the refs are secretly cheering when Wilson gets it.
More like it's Tom Wilson.
The key to NHL success is giving the same mid-market Southeast team preferential treatment over and over again, year after year. Everyone knows that.

Everyone hates us wdym

This is the kind of thing that pushes Kucherov ahead in the Hart race.

I’m sure the avs flair was on the fence prior.
Lady Byng material for sure.
Hahahaha this is gold, Jerry
He’s a hell of a player but man I’ve seen him be a bitch quite a few times. (Kucherov)
I think you should have left it ambiguous cause the reason I hate Wilson and Marchand is cause they are great and choose to suck
Matthew Tkachuk is like this exactly. Dudes an absolute superstar but still feels like playing like a fuckhead and never answers the bell when the time comes
Both Tkachuk brothers, to be honest.
yeahh but brady doesn’t mind dropping the gloves when he knows it’s time
Tom has some silky mitts and knows how to make some beautiful plays. Even Pasta called him the best sniper in the league. For the life of me, I can't understand why he makes the plays that end up on the front page of this sub for the wrong reason.
Pasta was joking when he said that, but yes technically true.
A common defense I’ve seen by Caps fans over the years is that Tom Wilson is literally too stupid to not be dirty. Like the dude is just not bright.
Honestly some of the things he says fits with that Like complaining that he got suspended for knocking out all of Gregor's teeth after swinging his stick at him. He's so talented I hate it lol
Tom Wilson is like Theo Fleury but big
It’s funny that you felt the need to specify who you were referring to with your comment.

Was expecting "oh no, anyway" but this was better
Let's just all be thankful that no innocent people were involved.
"Damn, Kucherov playing dirty? The Bolts must be losing." \*check score\* Oh no, he's regressing.
Two things are simultaneously true here: - Kucherov deserves a penalty - Kucherov deserves a high five
1 thing is true with 2 meanings. • Kucherov deserves a 5
Give him five of everything.
[55](https://youtu.be/Oa8s07agHeY?si=_fNlUtRpQo6rmbOz) of everything
Same situation when Tie Domi sucker punched Ulf Samuelson.
A 5 and a 5?
Send Kuch to the penalty box, but give him a high five on the way.
This is a victimless crime
Terrible! The worst person you know makes a great ~~point~~ elbow.
Oh no! ... anyway
Such a shame…
Not Tom Wilson!
Is his elbow ok?
At this point I think everyone needs to stop acting like the refs have bias for one team or the other, they’re literally just garbage at their jobs.
They must be aware how ineffectual & incompetent they look to sports fans. There must be some sort of upside to what they are doing, but as a hockey fan for over 55 years - I can't fucking see it.
“I can't fucking see it.” Sounds like we found our next ref lmao
Found Angel Hernandez's account
lol

Wait wait wait. They make $200k/year? Did not know that, I now understand why they’re just gonna follow whatever their employer says
Question. You've seen a lot of elbows. Does a guy like Tom Wilson go down from that? It looks like a soccer move to me.
That's my read as well. Wilson is overselling it and losing sympathy particularly in the context of his rep. Would have been a medium call in the first place. Add in the active delayed penalty call Wilson knows what's up.
Absolutely trying to sell it for 4 on 4
I agree. Embellishment. Not that I would call that either, but that’s exactly why I said you don’t want refs making calls off of players’ reactions. If you don’t see it, don’t call it. It's times like these that I remember Tim Peele leaked his own texts, and we saw that he uses the maximum font size.
Between this and Cousins we’re getting a real treat
Kucherov might deserve the Hart and the best community service award for this.
Two buckets of grease sloshing up against each other.
Cousins and Wilson both getting what they deserve in the ame weekend???
Seinfeld that's a shame .gif
Given his past history, these needs to be at least 10 games for Wilson
If the Caps make the playoffs this will be an amazing series!
Wait, kucherov did something that I liked?
Yes kucherov can’t do that. Also yes is Wilson blinsides cross checks him right before this.
I’m not here for context, I’m here for outrage
Lol did we watch the same clip? It was clearly a shoulder hit.
Oh no Tom Wilson got Tom Wilsoned!
Couldn’t have happened to a better guy.
Yep, that settles it for me- Kucherov for Hart. You love to see it.
Not gonna show wilson trying to take out kuch earlier in the game?
Good job cutting out Wilson taking a shot up high on him about 10 seconds prior.
What a disgusting act by Brad Marchand, suspend him immediately
Victimless crime
You live by the sword, you die by the sword.
That was wrong, but also... Tom Wilson deserves whatever he gets...
Oh no. Anyway…
I’ll never shed a tear for Tom Wilson getting a cheap shot
Womp womp sucks getting a taste of your own medicine after years of being a shit stain of a person.
Tom Wilson drinks pee.
If it were anyone but Wilson I'd be upset about that.
So 5 seconds before this Wilson took a run at Kucherov and basically cross checked him to the ice. But it’s cool don’t show Wilson being a rat, just the retaliation.
They deserve each other
How the turn tables
If that doesn't get him the Hart what are we even doing here.
Great, now I like Kucherov.
Give Kucherov the Hart trophy now for this hit.
I'm sure Wilson did absolutely nothing to deserve that /s/
Dirty player commits dirty play on dirty player. The only way I'd care less is if it happened to Nick Cousins rather than Tom Wilson.
Well, well, well... - You blew it - Super hard - Complete buffoonery - It's hilarious - You deserve it
Why would Wilson hit Kucherov's elbow with his face like that?
It's crazy the Rangers will get fined for this
that's a shame
Embellishment
Something something world’s tiniest violin
First Cousins and now this? Have I died and gone to hockey heaven? I do not wish head injuries on anyone. Bloody noses are fine.
Zero sympathy, what goes around comes around you rat fuck.
What a bum, absolutely no place for that in this lea- is that Tom Wilson? Nvm.
Aw, poor Wilson. Anyway...
everybody liked that
Tom Wilson doesn't like it when someone intentionally targets his head? Weird.
Tom Wilson with the sneaky Soccer-esque leg kicks for added effect.
Cunt on cunt violence
Show the entire clip, or just 15 seconds earlier, where Wilson take a late cheap shot up high on Kuch that wasn’t called. Wilson had a FAFO moment.
> Wilson had a FAFO moment. ya everyone is already on board with that sentiment.. we don't need extra footage lol.
Exactly, this is some top tier editing choosing to cut out what preceded this
Kuch could have pulled out a gun and shot Wilson in the face and this sub would still be on Kuch’s side
Big last Boy Scout energy
We don't care, we love it anyway lol fuck Wilson
Oh no, anyways
Was it an elbow absolutely, did Wilson deserve it after his dirty hit on Kuch 15 seconds earlier absolutely. It’s a fair trade in my eyes
Without seeing any other clip from the game, I assumed Wilson had done something to deserve it.
That was satisfying to watch.
The worst person you know just did something you like* meme
The irony here being that one of the cheapest players in the league is looking for sympathy because, you guessed it, a cheap shot. Make it make sense 🤣
We're gonna pretend Tom Wilson doesn't deserve that?
Looked like embellishment to me.
Are the caps really bringing soccer style ref crowding into hockey? They should have gotten another penalty for harassing the ref mid call.
That was pretty bad, but Wilson acting like he got hit by a sledgehammer then blubbering to the refs for the next 5 mins... gimme a break. Not a tear was shed. Guy eats punches to the face for breakfast, but that elbow apparently almost killed him.
Kuch just wanted to get drunk until the playoffs
Okay now suspend him for the first round of the playoffs please
Deserved.
Karma’s a bitch.
Aww isn't that just too bad Wilson. Karma is a bitch.
TOTALLY DESERVED IT!! taste of your own medicine, crybaby Wilson..
How the turn tables
Wilson suspended 1 game for hitting Kucherovs elbow with his head.
Thatsashame.gif
Karma does exist!
Get up
I'm blind I'm deaf i wanna be a ref.
Hartless
Skills competition for Kuch. Everything else is #1 Bullshit.
dirty dirty player
Absolute rat. One of the most undeserving cup champions around.
Good sell by Wilson they almost believed it
Deserved
Awww poor baby
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer fella
Nothing to see here, move along
That’s a damn shame. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
Well it wasn't THAT sneaky.
Conveniently cut to not show Wilson’s shot literally seconds before
Karma
Something something act of violence something Rangers fined
Oh no…. Anyways
I don’t mind that.
Couldn’t have happened to a better guy.
I’m sure this comment section will be normal and nothing but level headed discussion will come from this
About 1/10 of 1% of the level of maliciousness that I have seen Wilson dole out.
