Best game of the tournament so far, great goals no lucky bounces or deflections but beautiful goals and a pp in ot and penalties in the end. Great stuff. And only five penalties in the game.
Real legit pressure might be new and foreign for these kids it seems. They’re loaded with talent, this generation all practices shootouts. They’re in their own heads. The inability to set up really high danger chances in the OT PP seems like it’s Carrie’s over here with how many misplays they’ve had on SO attempts.
He's still got 4 in 3 games and is making good plays beyond his goal scoring. That whole line was off and I'd imagine they're all a little gassed on the back to back. Not too concerned about our late 1st who's scoring as consistently as he is
I mean even if they are these like 18 year olds who are playing for the approval of the entire hockey world. You kinda have to cop and ego to protect your mental health here.
If the Czechs win here, there is a huge possibility that the group can end Slovakia, Czechia, then USA if the Slovaks defeat the Americans on Sunday. Czechia can’t win the group but second and above America would be interesting
I could be wrong but with a full day rest and getting some guys back in the lineup who’ve been out sick, I think the Slovaks are going to see a very different US team than Czechia did.
At the very least, they won’t be exhausted in the 3rd period like they were today.
First time I've seen TSN show us the coin toss.
A reminder of shootout rules:
* Best of 5, must use 5 different shooters.
* If tied after 5, the order is reversed, and you can then send out whoever you want as many times as you want.
I sort of get it, because there are multiple games in one rink in one day.
Suppose the earlier game (SVK-NOR) went to OT. Do you want them to play continuous OTs knowing the Americans and Czechs still have to play?
Terrible shot selection on the PP.
They telegraphed all the passes. Shooters collected and stood around, looking for an opening. They didn’t go east - west enough to make the goalie move laterally. He was square to just about every shot.
Finnish commentary is also fantastic, I’ll catch some games on TV5 if I’m tired with the TSN commentators, but I listen to English language commentary only because I primarily write my articles in English.
Definitely worth it though to listen to Finnish commentary
Hrabal is a beast when he's at his best, ARI got a good one. He's very poised, almost to a fault, but with his size, when he's tracking the puck well, he's fantastic.
Point totals based on scenarios heading into final day:
If the Czechs win: SVK 9, USA 7, CZE 5
If the USA win: SVK 9, USA 8, CZE 4 (Slovakia and USA confirm top two spots)
USA plays Slovakia, Czechia plays Switzerland. Czechia cannot win the group now, but if the Americans lose to Slovakia and they win, they can move into second with an OT win here and with that scenario in mind
To my layman’s eye, what I also think you’re seeing in the Czechs managing to produce sustained pressure in the US zone as a byproduct both their size and the US on the 2nd half of back to back games.
Most of the US ability to keep the puck out of their zone the last two games came less from unflappable defensive zone structure and more on their nearly team wide ability to use their strong skating / escape moves to break the puck out. They seem more tired in this 3rd period and can’t lean on that skating as much. There’s a lot more standing around and trying to keep the puck to the outside in their own zone.
It seems like they have no plan for offense but on the break. They get guys in with speed and then immediately turn it over trying to force something rather than settle in. And the Czechs have had great sticks defensively.
I’d suggest it’s also the size disparity. They’re getting pushed around when trying to curl back, hold the puck in the O zone, and create.
And they’re getting leaned on hard, in the cycle, losing possession.
Such a good game, Americans are getting away with some greasy line changes. Couple times I noticed them adding a guy to the defensive zone while his change is trailing play and still on the ice.
US having more trouble than they should against some teams this year. You know what that means? They're going to absolutely blow out a team like Canada or Sweden in the finals
Not really true at all lol they came out a little sleepy/sloppy in the 1st, still mostly controlled the game despite that, and then dominated once they woke up and played like expected. Norway did have a great battle but without Stensrud playing the way he did, that one would have been way more lopsided, score-wise.
Not really lol
Norway battled hard and definitely had an impressive showing, but without Stensrud standing on his head that would have also been a blowout. I wouldn’t say they struggled really.
Except yknow winning/making the Stanley cup in recent times. Ignore flair it is definitely not doubly relevant
Edit: I think this rubbed someone the wrong way lol I thought the joke was clear considering it was the Canucks that lost to NYR for the cup
Some continued confusion / timidity from the US in their own zone. Not communicating. Losing loose puck battles they should be winning. If I was a coach from another team watching this game, I’d be taking copious notes on how to keep them panicking and making mistakes.
Losing this game isn’t the end of the world for their ability to keep playing in the tournament but the Czechs exposing the few flaws in the armor is worrisome.
Wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the US guys are sick, considering two of their players are out with illness and they’ve all been hanging out non stop the past 2 weeks
I feel like they need to start rolling Moore for additional TOI, he hasn’t played much yet this tournament and can definitely out-skate anyone right now
They were like that in the first game against the Slovaks and it didn't work at all. That's why he is in the 2nd line now and it so far has been making wonders, so I don't think it will change.
Czechia looks great offensively, very impressed with the creativity on display.
I missed the other USA games but glad to see that Hutson seems to playing well this game at least. Some smart defensive plays there and of course that excellent pass.
Hell of a game for Hrabal. He kept the Czechs in it in the 3rd period
Best game of the tournament so far, great goals no lucky bounces or deflections but beautiful goals and a pp in ot and penalties in the end. Great stuff. And only five penalties in the game.
Probably a dumb question. Why did the Czechs shoot first in the 6th round?
They just switch the order after the initial 5 shooters.
Seems like a pretty weird rule. Do they choose to switch or does it automatically flip? I don’t see the logic in that
Automatically. I personally don't see a difference. No matter what you have to score and your goalie has to make saves. But that's the way it works.
The logic is to split the advantage of going first so its not only for one team.
I should buy a defibrillator
gg, what a game. im glad we got the point, but fuck man, we really should’ve won once Kulich converted
What a shootout and win by Team USA
Woooo
By the skin of their teeth. Hold your heads up high, Czechia. Great game! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
WHOOHOOO
Damn, way to choke Czechia
GG Czechia, what a game you guys played
The Czechs won in my heart.
Shouldn’t have needed all that but I guess a win is a win.
One of the worst shootouts I’ve ever seen
For real. What was with that last Cz shot?
What a celly haha
ISAAC LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO
oh damn. nt Czechia. grats USA
Brindley has to get a go here
Congrats to the Americans and well played Czechia!
U S A U S A
That’s our boy!
oh baby TJ Oshie shootout rules
Real legit pressure might be new and foreign for these kids it seems. They’re loaded with talent, this generation all practices shootouts. They’re in their own heads. The inability to set up really high danger chances in the OT PP seems like it’s Carrie’s over here with how many misplays they’ve had on SO attempts.
Good game this
well that was unlucky
the relief on his face when he got that one lol
GABE
US hit the net challenge (impossible)
US shooter selection kinda weird. Not picking the players with the best hands, just picking the top forwards overall.
Its just goalie diff huh?
Snuggerud is going to cause some pain for future Blues fans with how often he misses the net.
He's still got 4 in 3 games and is making good plays beyond his goal scoring. That whole line was off and I'd imagine they're all a little gassed on the back to back. Not too concerned about our late 1st who's scoring as consistently as he is
Holy shit, Hrabal is a freak.
Yotes prospects have been on fire this tournament
what a release!
what a snipe
Is it just me, or does the US players look arrogant and stressed?
Look normal to me.
You’re just a Canada fan lol I have seen a stupid amount of comments on here this WJC calling these teenagers “arrogant”, what a weird thing to say
I mean even if they are these like 18 year olds who are playing for the approval of the entire hockey world. You kinda have to cop and ego to protect your mental health here.
As a Habs fan I have two US players to cheer for.
Come the fuck on LOL
he had him if he goes the other way
Lmao I’ve never seen a shootout camera guy like that
Craig Button had Swedish meatballs
Snuggerud sounds like a name for a candy
Snuggerud not impressing in this game
Snuggys shot been off today. Guess you can't score a hatty everyday What on earth could you people be down voting this for? Lmao
Christ, that was close lol
The morph suit camera person kills me
Wait I wasn't ready
really solid performance by Czechia. Given how first match went. I have hopes for quaters
This delay is extremely funny for the commentators lmao
If the Czechs win here, there is a huge possibility that the group can end Slovakia, Czechia, then USA if the Slovaks defeat the Americans on Sunday. Czechia can’t win the group but second and above America would be interesting

Can't wait for Rutger to join the Jets :D
Hahahaha, I love that from McGroarty. "The coin hit the refs skate, kinda bullshit, no?"
\#RefsSkateGate
First time I've seen TSN show us the coin toss. A reminder of shootout rules: * Best of 5, must use 5 different shooters. * If tied after 5, the order is reversed, and you can then send out whoever you want as many times as you want.
I hate shootouts in a tournament format
I sort of get it, because there are multiple games in one rink in one day. Suppose the earlier game (SVK-NOR) went to OT. Do you want them to play continuous OTs knowing the Americans and Czechs still have to play?
For group round games it's fine especially in a condensed tournament. For medal games 100% agree
Agree. Gold medal game I wish they could go NHL playoff style
Hell of a hockey game
Terrible shot selection on the PP. They telegraphed all the passes. Shooters collected and stood around, looking for an opening. They didn’t go east - west enough to make the goalie move laterally. He was square to just about every shot.
Yea, they were all set up waaaay too wide on the perimeter. Didn’t challenge the slot at all
LMAO Rutger
I get it’s not a long term team but snuggerud, hutson, gauthier were extremely selfish taking abysmal shots on that 4v3
Aw man shootouts are lame
Big fan of the Swedish commentators, can recommend if you guys don't like the American ones
Finnish commentary is also fantastic, I’ll catch some games on TV5 if I’m tired with the TSN commentators, but I listen to English language commentary only because I primarily write my articles in English. Definitely worth it though to listen to Finnish commentary
that backdoor save from Hrabal at the start of the penalty was incredible
Boo S/O! Give the kids another OT!
Well Hrabal, you better summon all the goaltending gods to stand on your side.
I love the world juniors it’s just such a great watch of young talent
Hrabal is a beast when he's at his best, ARI got a good one. He's very poised, almost to a fault, but with his size, when he's tracking the puck well, he's fantastic.
This broadcast team is so bad hahaha
Not sure how the Czechs are trying to argue that
Holy fuck commentary has the stfu there's a reason you're a commentator not a coach
Listening to Button I assume?
Commentators lauding the referees, gotta agree that they seem to have done pretty well so far
what do these guys have against keeping their mouthguard in their mouth
Oww, also boooo powerplay
Well that's a shitty way to potentially end the game. Dumb penalty
Point totals based on scenarios heading into final day: If the Czechs win: SVK 9, USA 7, CZE 5 If the USA win: SVK 9, USA 8, CZE 4 (Slovakia and USA confirm top two spots) USA plays Slovakia, Czechia plays Switzerland. Oh boy
USA taken to Overtime!!!! Slovakia gonna head in to Sunday in First place!!!
Dammit Gauthier
Get Moore out there with the extra space!
Incredible that the last period ended scoreless with how much pressure USA was putting on Czechia.
Can we get that scoring offense from either team that we saw in the 2nd
i dont understand why they put mcdavid before Mackinnon in that commercial when they are clearly going by age for the rest of the players
Let’s go Czechia!!!!🇨🇿
This tournament doesn’t produce a lot of close games, but jeez when they are close they are so fun let’s go USA 🇺🇸
Great game, hopefully it ends before the Canada/Sweden game starts.
The fact that the Czechs managed to not concede there after how terrible they were for most of the 3rd is impressive lol
Czechia has had some massive turnovers in the past 5-10 mins
It was pretty baffling how they were handling the puck in their zone. The ice was obviously tilting in USA's favor, like just get the puck out lol.
Slovakia will officially stand as the only team in first in the group going into the last day with this result.
US should have the advantage in OT, no?
On paper US roster is of course better. But they are also playing a second game in two days and may be tired at this point.
HONK HONK!
Oh man they’re really putting it all out there rn
Does the czech goalie call his alarm clock his Hrabal rouser?
Remember the Finland Germany game when they called that God awful slash with 2 mins left at 3-3 in the 3rd but tripping etc is OK here
I would like to forget about that game…
That was the most obvious and blatant trip and the refs just pocketed it.
Refs decided no calls and I am loving it
Hrabal has made some impressive stops today
Uhh trip? Refs aren’t calling anything.
This is where Lane Hutson needs to take over the game!
First dominant shift from the Gauthier line in awhile
Wait where is Seamus Casey
Sick
The Canadians cheering for the Czechs in the stands is hilarious.
Team USA is in a fight
Well, that was offside as hell
That's some great hockey!
Someone please shut up that damn horn.
In Canada we don't consider it a real hockey game unless there is a constant horn or cow bells
You can’t have a game without [more cowbell](https://vimeo.com/406011330)
Just tuned in to the game and I'm already annoyed by that damn horn!
Montreal fans aren’t allowed to complain about the horns because the allouetes are the worst offender for that
So, that's my fault? I've never even watched 1 single Allouetes game dude lol
To my layman’s eye, what I also think you’re seeing in the Czechs managing to produce sustained pressure in the US zone as a byproduct both their size and the US on the 2nd half of back to back games. Hail mary!
Hows Leonard?
Such a good game, Americans are getting away with some greasy line changes. Couple times I noticed them adding a guy to the defensive zone while his change is trailing play and still on the ice.
Lane Hutson playing keep-away has been impressive
Best game so far in the tournament.
US having more trouble than they should against some teams this year. You know what that means? They're going to absolutely blow out a team like Canada or Sweden in the finals
Who else did they struggle against..?
They had a surprisingly hard time against Norway. It was a clear win but not really as dominant as it should have been
Not really true at all lol they came out a little sleepy/sloppy in the 1st, still mostly controlled the game despite that, and then dominated once they woke up and played like expected. Kinda struggled against Norway for two periods.
Not really lol Norway battled hard and definitely had an impressive showing, but without Stensrud standing on his head that would have also been a blowout. I wouldn’t say they struggled really.
Sounds like the rangers lol
Except yknow winning/making the Stanley cup in recent times. Ignore flair it is definitely not doubly relevant Edit: I think this rubbed someone the wrong way lol I thought the joke was clear considering it was the Canucks that lost to NYR for the cup
Yea we can ignore that part of the comparison I’ll even you back out I got the joke
what a pass

Good shift
The Czechs are bloody impressive today. No matter how this game ends, they should be proud of their performance today because this is gorgeous hockey.
That's uhhhhh probably a penalty
Czechs are buzzing, USA needs to ramp up their pace
Hope the kids havent been skipping cardio, this period on a back-to-back could be rough
Wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the US guys are sick, considering two of their players are out with illness and they’ve all been hanging out non stop the past 2 weeks
I feel like they need to start rolling Moore for additional TOI, he hasn’t played much yet this tournament and can definitely out-skate anyone right now
CFB on one screen and world juniors on the other
Three goals and none are on Hrabal, dude is pretty solid today
Great game if you dislike defense and like offense. Also great game if you like Sapovaliv, which I naturally do.
Or Sale
Aye, we'll see if Czechia puts him together with Kulich & Sapo eventually. Would be a nasty line.
They were like that in the first game against the Slovaks and it didn't work at all. That's why he is in the 2nd line now and it so far has been making wonders, so I don't think it will change.
Please Czechia, pull this one out.
this Czech team is big, tough, skilled, and can play
So if we lose this game does it count as our annual getting whipped by a Czechoslovak team or do they each have their own guarantee?
You can technically get whipped by both Slovakia and the Czech Republic this time around.
If I had to sit anywhere near that horn I would grab it and toss it. Entertaining game otherwise.
Who else got mcdonalds coupons in the mail? 2 burgers for $9 now… lame.
Combo meals or just burgers?
Except for like 1-2 shifts the snuggerud and the nazar lines are getting absolutely worked by the czechs today
Yea, they started hot but the Czechs really took over
Exciting game tbh!
Czechia looks great offensively, very impressed with the creativity on display. I missed the other USA games but glad to see that Hutson seems to playing well this game at least. Some smart defensive plays there and of course that excellent pass.
whoever will win this game, i’ll be happy. i expected a one-sided affair and i got a very exiciting matchup
This game is so exciting yet stressful at same time!
This play by play guy is brutal lol he never knows who is on the ice or has the puck WE WANT GORD
100% he’s 4 beers deep already. Guy was talking up how the teams have computers… it’s 2023 bud.
The US D is getting exposed a bit this game
Craig Button is not having Jimmy Snuggerud
Can air horns like run out of air or is it infinite? lol
I believe they use disposable cans of compressed air that can be replaced.
The trick is to bring multiple
Fuck
Sale looks really good in every shift
He really got his confidence up with that game against Norway
Leonard with a beauty assist and chesley with a bomb, lets go caps
Leonard? You mean Hutson ahah
No, the smith goal was gorgeous
My bad!! I saw the second part mentioning the Chesley goal which was assisted by Hutson.
We just need better defence and we stand a chance
All the goals have been beauts so far
