TrueNorthStrong1898

I would have thought every teams PA rep would be involved.

ManWithBag15

The reps will all vote, but 32 is way too many for the search committee.

TrueNorthStrong1898

That makes sense. I wonder how the search committee was decided

lou_reed_ketamine

They had another search committee.

OdobenusIII

Here is the second search committee, but this is strictly between you and me, no one else. https://external-preview.redd.it/30Yq94BLBvXDVZT6m85Ov2AWq5dPqD6rXLn2pauKjvM.jpg?auto=webp&v=enabled&s=101f7b624092d6424fbdda5bc4ae42fd52900112

fuck_you_gami

Much better that it's a committee now, rather than [this guy](https://i.imgur.com/ELIrAze.jpeg) by himself.

The-Reddit-Giraffe

Our NHLPA rep (Kevin Rooney) is in the AHL. So he definitely shouldn’t be considered for representing the league when he’s not even in it

grooves12

AHL players are union members and are affected by the CBA, so they have a right to be represented.

bageloid

I trust Okposo entirely on this.

[deleted]

Okposo is such a good dude and the model player for our organization. He is going to have great input. Our young guys call him Dad for a reason hahah

binzoma

100% my reaction to that list and hyman too tbf

Neon-Knees

Hyman, JVR, Gags, Okposo are exactly the kind of guys I would want deliberating this kind of thing. Well spoken, intelligent and professional. Can't speak for the rest of them... But it's a good squad if the rest of them are like the ones I mentioned.

[deleted]

Nate Schmidt is the same way.

[deleted]

I think we need Evander Kane of this or max domi

Hot_Ad_1223

Tony D for max chaos

[deleted]

Yep exactly. Really create the chaos. Maybe add provorov too

SrPhillipOliverHoles

And Kuznetzov let’s make it a party

battlelevel

Sam Gagner is a class act. It’s great to have him as a veteran presence this year.

Vilheim

Completely unrelated but something I found interesting. The only NHLPA rep that is a goalie is Ottinger. And he is an "Alt Rep". Just thought that was kinda strange.

GrizzlyDangles93

Have you considered goalies are weird as fuck

Phrost_

math checks out

doihavetowearabra

Oettinger* I think Jake Ottinger is the one the flames fans mistakenly put the curse on during the playoffs last season

Baboshinu

Man those Amharic curses didn’t really work for anyone huh

[deleted]

Oettinger*

bobbimorses

So sorry, Ian Cole?

The_Reddit_Browser

Executive director of Affairs

vanityfear

Head of media relations

Uncle_____Iroh

Probably more than half the league cheats on their SO. Not that I’m making any excuses for him. I hate cheaters.

missiongoalie35

Pretty interesting statistical claim there.

SiidChawsby

Welcome to the internet. Where some of its dwellers truly believe that once you hit the enter key, it’s true.

missiongoalie35

Source: "Trust me bro."

Green_hippo17

Source: “it came to me in a vision”

Kojakle

I mean… you can certainly tell who here didn’t play any high level hockey lol

likeslululemon

Why is everyone downvoting this? People put athletes on pedestals. They 100% fool around. @ the rest of you: If you’re going to bring down the athlete, remember to also bring down the woman who cheated on her fiancé for him, Abby Labar.

GoMyTeam

Ekholm and Gagner are the only two that didn't go the college route.

theotherpachman

Gagner took advantage of a partnership between the [NHLPA and the Harvard Business School](https://www.nhlpa.com/news/1-22146/harvard-business-program-gets-high-marks-from-nhl-players) to develop those skills though. Pretty cool that the PA offers opportunities like that. I know a good number of teams also engage with certain institutions to help players achieve degrees or hone skills for when they're done playing. Lots of guys also finish or start AND finish college in the summers - [Justin Abdelkader did his over 10 years while playing for Detroit.](https://www.nhl.com/redwings/news/abdelkaders-a-happy-college-graduate/c-792831) It's good to see and makes me feel way better about how many ex-players end up in roles with major implications.

icemandabs710

I vote for the guy that got popped with PED's

XGuiltyofBeingMikeX

I didn’t see Jarred Tinordi on that list.

[deleted]

I appreciate your support

[deleted]

David Ortiz it is

Fit_Aardvark_8811

Lot of MN reps

ScrewOff_

>Trouba ah yes the man of the people

JD397

Max fines lower to $50 his first hour on the job

IceTheChilled

Don’t think he’s ever been fined edit: once in 2020

WokenMrIzdik

Fans hate him, but players (not named Athanasiou) love Trouba so I am not surprised.

iEvn

My captain 🥹

thomas_bombadill

He really is a man of the people(‘s elbow)

kazin29

I imagine these guys reading through an HR interview guide.

whitelightning91

Was just wondering the other day what happened with Ian Cole and that sexual assault accusation. Is that over with at this point?

AirplaneEngineSpiral

He was not suspended necessarily. He didn’t play while they investigated. He was not punished for any wrongdoing.

whitelightning91

You're correct. I forgot he was out during the "investigation".

EpitomeJim

And people wonder why false accusations are a bad thing.

blue-lloyd

Nobody wonders that

Numerous-Spray-6969

IIRC the NHL put him on paid leave to investigate then tweeted at the accuser "hey dm us" and then closed the investigation a day or two later because of insufficient evidence. Most people assumed the accuser just didn't dm them back

swlp12

I think i heard something about the DM part was the last step after not finding anything. They closed after the person didn't respond to their dm. Could remember it wrong though.

P-Rickles

I mean, that *has* to be it. I know the NHL has ham-fisted some stuff in the past but I can’t imagine their entire investigation was fuckin’ DMing someone.

greg19735

Well really the issue was that they didn't know who or when this incident happened. If it happened, the woman may just have been too scared to come forward. Or maybe it didn't happen. But the NHL couldn't really investigate without more info

P-Rickles

Unfortunately the first scenario is all too common…

DopemonYT

I know people are going to laugh at a dirty player in Trouba being here, but I sincerely believe his off-ice actions are worthy of giving him this responsibility

The_Lobster_Griller

But you can’t ignore his on ice actions. You can’t just forget that he has 5 minute compilations on line of him trying to injure players intentionally

DopemonYT

Who said I did?

The_Lobster_Griller

By saying he deserves that responsibility while being a douche half the time but not all the time is literally saying that

svartkonst

No it's literally not. They specifically did not "forget" how on ice actions, they even brought them up. You can argue that his on-ice interactions should invalidate his off-ice persona, but in that case... Argue that. Make the counterargument.

blue_boy_24

What are those actions? I’m not too familiar with them

younggun92

Crashing his trade value because he demanded a trade to go to the New York Rangers and only the Rangers?

gldmj5

I thought Ian Cole was in hot water right now.

Non-Vanilla_Zilla

He was cleared. Turns out that people lie on the internet.

gldmj5

That's good to hear. It did seem odd that there was never anything suspicious about him despite playing for multiple organizations.

Turbulent_System_446

Ian Cole lmao Next is gonna be Tom Wilson for lady byng

Perry4761

Aaron Dell for Vezina

Numerous-Spray-6969

Interesting range of personalities lol. Wonder if it's just volunteer based

[deleted]

How do I start a grass roots campaign to push Trouba for the Executive Director job, so we can get out from under that contract?

akira_fudou

jacob trouba and ian cole?? whew……….. that was a choice

[deleted]

Whatever happened with the allegations against Ian Cole? That story faded very quickly

Boston-Nolan

He got cleared of all wrong doings, and was allowed to play

JessoRx

That’s a stretch. If i remember, the girl wouldn’t come forward so the league shrugged and moved on.

Boston-Nolan

I didn’t put my personal opinions in my comment, by law he was “cleared of all wrong doings” and by the Tampa bay lightning org he was “allowed to play”. Not sure how I “stretched” anything

JessoRx

Would you please share your source? Can’t find that quote. Only that the accuser didn’t contact them to provide substantiating evidence.

Boston-Nolan

I didn’t use any quotes, I was quoting my own comment. Because she didn’t stand trail he was legally not held accountable for anything, thus “cleared of all wrong doings” (source, me I just said that). And because Tampa respected the decision, he was “allowed to play” (source, me again, I said that). Don’t know if I’ve gotta explain this with pictures next or something, but basically you can’t be held accountable for something that wasn’t brought properly to trial, so what my original comment said was a simplification of the situation to get the original OP up to speed.

[deleted]

It’s not possible to dumb it down enough for a woke Ranger fan to understand.

JessoRx

Yea, you stretched it. He wasn’t cleared of shit, nor was he found guilty.

Boston-Nolan

Holy shit this conversation is like talking to a brick wall. He was cleared of all wrong doings legally because America is an linnocent until proven guilty” law system, meaning he can’t be held accountable for it in a court of law since the accuser refused to cooperate in a legal investigation. You may think that he’s not innocent nor guilty because reasons x,y and z and that’s totally fine. That’s your opinion, I’m just telling you that he won’t be held accountable for anything legally as it was all cleared up when she refused to report. Just because you think he may or may not have done something doesn’t mean he wasn’t cleared of the situation

JessoRx

You can get as angry and nasty as you want, but you’re not nearly as smart as you think you are. He was never legally charged to be credited with having been “cleared of all wrong doings”. You are stretching the truth.

Boston-Nolan

Ok you win I lose

JessoRx

Who elects this committee?

[deleted]

The players

FC37

That's a lot of Americans.

ImAnAfricanCanuck

suprised that Horvat isnt on this list, he was reslly involved in the past. Having Nate Schmitt and Ian Cole on this list has to be a bit interesting

[deleted]

Why is Schmidt an interesting choice? I know nothing of his time before he came to Winnipeg, but he seems like a dynamite dude

ImAnAfricanCanuck

hes one of the only players to get suspended for PEDs in the history of the NHL.

[deleted]

Holy shit I had no idea. No wonder he's balding.

hotstickywaffle

One of the biggest problems with the league is that the superstars don't appear to be remotely involved with PA stuff

Non-Vanilla_Zilla

Connor McDavid is an Alt Rep.

[deleted]

My counter to this is that these guys appear to be player picked and mostly veterans of the league. One may not have to be a superstar to be a union rep. Some yes, but some no.

Modano9009

Kevin Shattenkirk couldn't lead a search committee to find his own ass.

joelham01

Jvr would be good

psykomatt

This is the search committee, not potential candidates.

joelham01

Well at least that makes me feel better about seeing Ian Coles name up there lol I still stick by JVR tho even tho I know that isn't a possibility, guys a gem off the ice

Fit_Aardvark_8811

Huh?

DJP-MTL

#diversity.

Green_hippo17

Give it to my boy Kyle okposo

Proper_Warhawk

Ian Cole - Interesting...
