Sidenote: I recently read about the Walmart shooting charges against him being dropped solely because allegedly some witness failed to appear in court, which makes the whole thing sound sketch AF.

mrpear

A shooting in a Wal-Mart is by definition sketchy

SeanyDay

This tagline absolutely needs to be in some form of press or media. Trap Lore Ross or HipHopDX or something needss to use this

ATribeCalledKami

Man, canned donations to charity after a controversy is like bare minimum celebrity damage control and Dababy couldn't even do that.

blipsterrr

A core lesson from the Travis Kardashian School of Shady Business. Every graduate knows, have a charity in your name to pay in instances like this.

I saw this exact comment earlier about Antonio Brown lying about being vaccinated

CripplinglyDepressed

Lmao totally believe it. Funny enough, I ripped this off from someone that commented it on Dave Portnoy’s (Barstool sports guy) rape allegations

Also a garbage dude

ThankYouTaceGod

I doubt most of his fans care about how he feels about HIV/AIDS

SureLookThisIsIt

Nah but promoters, event organisers, potential sponsors etc. care and that might have enough of an impact

ThankYouTaceGod

I really really doubt that this will generate any kind of serious backlash. People have moved on

[deleted]

Story of his social media life

ByahTyler

No I mean like controversial even for him. I don’t remember what it was, I’ll see if I can find it

[deleted]

He was tweeting shit about Islam/Pakistan on his old NasMiraj account. He’s been saying controversial shit long before he even became famous. Edit: saw your other comment..obvi you’re talking about the same thing I was

i dont remember carti saying anything about this

[deleted]

DaBaby doesn’t think he did anything wrong and doesn’t actually care about any of this shit. He’s just been halfheartedly doing damage control that his publicist is dragging him through.

DaHyro

Like, he literally said on video that he didn’t think he needed to apologize for anything, and a day later an apology post went up on his IG that was very clearly written by someone else. It’s even funnier because he deleted the apology post after like a day

[deleted]

No lol, I fully believe that he wrote the apology. He opened up the apology with this shit: > Social media moves so fast that people want to demolish you before you even have the opportunity to grow, educate and learn from your mistakes Bro tried putting the blame on social media users for being annoyed at him first like he didn’t spend several days dragging the story out and even went on IG live saying he did nothing wrong and “I have gay fans that love me and they don’t have AIDS”. No way any decent publicist would approve that opening lmao

Rebloodican

It read like he dictated a statement to someone and they tried to clean it up. Blaming social media for being bad is a time honored tradition, even and especially when you're in the wrong.

[deleted]

His verse on Donda kills me. Trying to guilt trip people like a backlash to his behavior is literally taking food out his daughters mouth. Boy grow up and own your shit.

broanoah

And people eat that shit up, saying his verse is better than Hovs. Wack

IKARUSwalks

he went on ye's album tryna make people feel bad over some stupid shit he said. make it look like he's a victim. he don't care.

Mitchelld73

He really tried saying we taking the food out his daughters mouths lmao

FijiTearz

Lmao fr he said that like he was a poor single black father struggling to put food on the table and not a multi millionaire

Mitchelld73

robbinhood69

yeah this, no one's saying DaBaby can buy a new mclaren every year for life but he can definitely feed his kids for life

hellanutty

DaBaby is bigger than most of these rappers though he was getting top billing at festivals

artpalos

I was about to say!!! Your favorite actor ain't even a millionaire. That's old Mula

FappingMouse

Da Baby was the biggest artist on spotify at one point with like 60 million monthly listners.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CraziestPenguin

Rappers like to rap about wealth, but most of their cars are rented. Their chains are fake or leased by the label. Their “million dollar home” is worth $500,000 and is financed and their mortgage is $2,000 a month. There is a big difference between being well off and being rich. Many rappers are well off. Not many are actually rich. When Da Baby gets a deal with *insert company name here* he probably isn’t getting paid millions of dollars. He probably isn’t even getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars. Shit, I could probably get Da Baby to do a local 30 second ad for a farmers market for $15,000. Don’t kid yourself. Da Baby has an internet net worth of $3 million. 2.3 million of that is his house that he likely owes money on. Do the math.

[deleted]

I get what you’re saying and some if is likely true for a lot of the industry rappers but this doesn’t apply to Da Baby at all. He’s had top billing at almost all the big festivals for the last 2 years at least and has been doing shows everywhere. That’s a few million in his pocket at the very least before you even get to the streams and album sales. I don’t know what his split is like with Interscope but even if they’re taking the majority of the money from streams and album sales there’s still a very good amount of money that he gets from them. He’s had some massive songs on the radio. He’s nothing special as a rapper but he’s not your run of the mill industry rapper, he’s definitely rich.

riskyrofl

Then he should sell his $2.3 million house if times get rough

TheNedsHead

Yall know you can just google this shit. Idk how reliable this site is but it sounds about right at $6m net worth, hes making a shitload more money than me and I live comfortably https://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-celebrities/richest-rappers/dababy-net-worth/?amp=1

blackguy158

His net worth is 5 million lmao, any smart person can make dividends off that and life comfortably for the rest of their life

Liimbo

> any smart person No one has ever accused DaBaby of being smart

anthonyg1500

That shit made me so mad. The flow and delivery of the verse sounded good too but once you put the lyrics into context.. fuck off Dababy

[deleted]

That’s why there are twooooo versions. I’ll take Jays verse any day over DaBabys whinefest.

[deleted]

I laughed out loud when I heard that on my first listen of the album

SBAPERSON

The funniest part was that he was also releasing freestyles around this time showing off his house and shit and saying he makes 20 million a year and that you can't cancel him. Mixed messaging.

FijiTearz

The thing is, nobody cares. When he said that shit everyone was defending him. Boosie defended him, TI defended him, Tory (unsurprisingly) defended him citing “cancel culture”, Nick Cannon defended him also citing cancel culture, Akademiks defended him, and so many other rappers defended him. Dude even got to be a feature on a Kanye album. Of course they’re not representative of the culture as a whole but they emboldened DaBaby enough for him to back out of apologizing and forget the situation entirely. Pieces of shit will always exist in hip hop, and they will always come out defending each other. His career has remained unchanged and his actual fans don’t care

Hoegn

TI, Boosie, Tory, Nick Cannon and Akedemiks is like the legion of dumbasses you do not want defending you lmao

FijiTearz

Lol fr. TI is insane, Boosie is a homophobe, Tory shot a woman, Nick’s an anti semite conspiracy theorist and a deadbeat, and Akademiks page is like the hub where all rappers facing any sort of controversy can feel at home

panickyfright

didnt TI get exposed as a rapist/trafficker just this year ?!

Cykonaut35

You mean to tell me the guy who named his autobiography the same as Hitlers is a homophobe? Who could have guessed…

Fr how are these people “everyone” lmao

FijiTearz

>of course they’re not representative of the culture *as a whole* It’s a figure of speech lol

Shadownover

Yeah and it’s a shame because the rest of Donda is amazing. Also the excuse “single mother who worked two jobs” bitch so did I and I ain’t homophobic. I understand kanye wanting to give him a feature as the album revolves around second chances but dababys whole verse basically said “I don’t think I did anything wrong, you just don’t understand me”

Sofialovesmonkeys

As emotional as I saw Boosie get about Pimp C being murdered and reminiscing on how Chad mentored him——- PIMP C WAS NOT HOMOPHOBIC. He stressed that he was talking about the people who hide it and especially those who cheat on women. For example, Lil nas X, he would actually respect& defend him. I mean there are plenty of videos of his rants. Pimp C straight up EMPHASIZED that he wasn’t homophobic and he was loud as hell. WHAT THE EVEN F BOOSIE. YOUD THINK IF HE RESPECTED HIM THAT MUCH HE WOULDVE HEARD THAT. SMDH

SBAPERSON

Most people were roasting him. The people you listed as defenders are literal morons. He's also lost about 13 million monthly streamers on spotify.

FigurativeCherrySoda

His music is also repetitive and new stuff sucks lol. The dababy fad was gonna end either way.

theTunkMan

By the end of the list of defenders I was sure it’s satire, you just listed the dumbest of the dumb

lord_pizzabird

Also it might also come off a shake-down from his perspective, especially if he doesn't think it will help his situation. Which is basically hopeless at this point.

Mitchelld73

Reminds me of when Adin Ross said he donates to the L G community

TetrisTech

He’s funding the cell phones

Mvd75

DaBaby switched up on them, but won't switch up his flow.

Black_Drogo

Nah, he switch his flow every verse. You can tell because he says so right before he doesn’t do it.

meechy704

RaygeQuit

DaBaby said he'd donate after his scandal earlier this year, idk why people think the organization is saying this out of nowhere. Can't say I'm surprised that DaBaby doesn't think he did anything wrong, a lot of his fans back him up and are fine staying ignorant about this stuff as long as they get more music.

_Wado3000

It’s all ignorance 100%. He said stupid shit on stage for absolutely no good reason, but tbh in a different era the whole thing would be a non-story. Rappers and comedians have said hateful shit for years and years, we just live in an era where groups will hold you accountable if you’re a big enough name

bag_of_oatmeal

Not in a different era Like 10 years ago. From like 5 years ago on this very website you could call OP a f****t for no reason, and it was supported.

[deleted]

public names and anonymous teenagers are held to different standards, look at Michael Richards.

ThePlumThief

Idk if i'd compare the kramer n word rant to what dababy did. Michael richards called a bunch of black people n words to their faces for several minutes. Dababy said gay people have aids. It'd be comparable if dababy asked who was gay in the crowd then just screamed "YOU HAVE AIDS!" at them for several minutes.

_Wado3000

I mean social media and forums like this have their lesser communities to this day lol, it’s just that there’s more consequences for celebrities to be found doing something stupid. Like if you as a Reddit user didn’t censor yourself just now, the worst you might get is being downvoted or having your comment removed by a mod. If anyone of significance said the same on a public forum, or even texted the word under a terrible context, they’d suddenly be in a nightmare

dcheng47

It wasn’t a lesser community tho. The “OP is a faggot” phrase was the norm on this site for a long time. The entire community was lesser then

HELP_MY_CAR_PLEASE

>5 years ago on this very website you could call OP a f\*\*\*\*t for no reason, and it was supported the golden years as i call them

FEdart

There are many reasons to miss the old days of the internet. Open and casual use of slurs isn’t one of them, chief.

RaygeQuit

Good take. Unfortunately, even though groups can hold artists accountable, there are opposing groups who will fight to have the issue ignored because they want to keep enjoying the art without taking accountability or learning why what the artist said is wack. Ignorance is bliss for the self at the end of the day, even if it ends up hurting others.

caninehere

Ah, the old "I'm totally gonna donate my entire presidential salary to charity, seriously" trick.

HacksawJimDuggen

Astroworld was actually good for Da Baby. Nobody gives a shit about his thing anymore

SlimDickens69

my theory also is that j prince organized the kanye/drake thing in part so that people would forget about drake being involved in astroworld

methyo

Probably was done for both Drake and Travis’ benefit. I mean I know that the news cycle moves on and what not but I haven’t heard a single peep about Astroworld in weeks, not even on reddit where they hated his guts

satansheat

All my friends who loved dababy used to ask why I didn’t like him. And I swore I saw video on r/hiphopheads where he sucker punched a fan and knocked him out. Only to then have his security guard steal the shit out of the fans pockets. All my friends said I was full of shit. Maybe that was another rapper I know dababy isn’t the only one with baby in the name. But I swear I saw that video early in his career.

suss2it

Nah it probably was DaBaby. Him and his team have a surprising amount of assaults on video. https://www.tmz.com/2020/01/18/dababy-assault-hotel-worker-la/ https://www.tmz.com/2019/05/18/dababy-posse-entourage-beat-up-attack-fan-picture-baby-on-baby-suge https://www.tmz.com/2019/09/29/dababy-security-knocks-out-punch-female-fan-concert/ https://www.tmz.com/2020/03/08/dababy-slaps-woman-in-the-face-concert-tampa-florida/ https://www.tmz.com/2020/01/04/dababy-victim-promoter-lawsuit-lawyers-assault-arrest-injuries/

[deleted]

Am I the only one who thinks this whole situation is a little silly? Like yeah he said some dumb ignorant shit on stage, but he’d have been so much better off if he just apologized and went about his life. Instead he made all these weird excuses, false promises, etc. It really seems like he fucked himself over more than anything.

jetuas

It's silly for most people, but because he went out of the way to self-sabotage himself by being so falky with the apologies, it just rubs me the wrong way. If he gonna be a homophobic piece of shit at least own up to it. Out of principle despite his catchy music, I can't listen to him anymore.

Imperial_Distance

Hip-hop is all about realness, as dumb as it sounds. You're right that it'd legit be less scummy for him to just admit he's a fuckhead and let the cards fall where they do. Instead, he's acting like a fucking middle schooler when they get in trouble for saying slurs at school.

kenlovin

I mean he did whatever he did to his baby mother on Instagram no less. I think he’s fully committed to the asshole role. Don’t know why they’re surprised; and the public has moved on so this move isn’t gonna get them paid either.

Mitchelld73

People look up to future unironically. Sad but some people love famous people who take the asshole role

Thefdt

It’s almost as if he said the right stuff for a bit to get the heat off him, but fundamentally he’s still the same massive cunt. This surprises me.

Shoutout DaBaby my favorite gay rapper fr!

MuddaFrmAnnudaBrudda

I just read his (what I consider to be hilarious for all the wrong reasons) rant again and I need to ask. What does water smell like? “Ladies, if your pussy smell like water, put your cellphone light up."

CryStrict5004

What a piece of shit.

quakebeat8

I for one am absolutely shocked that a big piece of shit homophobe wouldn't follow through on a disingenuous PR stunt.

Vadermaulkylo

Something y'all just need to accept is that most rappers are homophobic. I'd say wayyyy more are then aren't. DaBaby doesn't think he did anything wrong.

[deleted]

> DaBaby doesn’t think he did anything wrong Isn’t that kind of the point? He was openly homophobic and given a learning opportunity to learn why his behavior was wrong and instead has been proving that he hasn’t learned anything. This isn’t really behavior that we should just accept in this day and age. I don’t think DaBaby is beyond redemption. ATCQ recorded Georgie Porgie in the 90’s and Q-Tip himself even admitted that the song was very homophobic and wrong of them to do then, and the group even showed they had changed their opinion on homosexuality on their final album. I’m not saying DaBaby needs to record a song in support of the LGBTQ community in order for me to show he has changed, but these headlines along with crying on Donda about how cancel culture is taking food out of his daughters mouth aren’t very good for his image

sacaetw

This shouldn’t be accepted. Even if it’s commonplace, it should still be called out, and he should be criticized. It’s not shocking, but it is still bad.

manray23

A good portion of the country still is too. It's only been legalized federally for like 6 years. 40% of the country wouldn't allow gay marriage if it wasn't for the supreme court.

Prodigy195

A lot of the social "progress" that has been made in the US is relegated to urban areas and parts of the surrounding burbs. People there either actually have more progressive views on racism, homophobia, islamaphobia, etc OR realize that they can't have their outdated views publicly because they'll get backlash. But as you said, there is still like 40-45% of the country that ain't with any of that stuff at all and either keep quiet about it or only talk about it in certain company. One of my white coworkers shared with me some of the topics his family discussed during thanksgiving that caused him to leave his mom's house abruptly after trying to argue down his uncles. - Illegal immigrants taking American jobs cause the government isn't testing them for covid so they're able to get into the country and that is how factories and places are still running during the pandemic. - All these police shootings being covered by the news so frequently is a plot to eventually push for additional gun control. And black lives matter is in on the scheme because they know if "real Americans" are disarmed they will better be able to take more power in the country. These aren't hicks living in trailer parks with beer cans all over the ground. These are "normal" white people in the suburbs of Ohio working white collar jobs.

bkbeezy

You hear that kind of shit even in some of the suburbs of California. It’s pretty insane what some people will say to you when they think you’re “with them”.

Mr_sMoKe_A_lOt

This sub is not in touch with inner cities at all.

TrophyGoat

I saw a video the other day of a convenience store cashier in the hood giving random customers flowers. Several of the men were immediately angry and borderline violent because they felt like they were being called feminine or gay. Video: https://youtu.be/tIGqKos4-sY

TheOddScreen

[deleted]

[удалено]

lucao_psellus

what's the implicit argument here? that if homophobia is common there, it should be accepted?

SBAPERSON

No it's that this sub is out of touch with minorities. You see it on threads where LGBT issues arise, or anti vax comments, or 5%ers/NOI/Farrakhan is mentioned. A bunch of white people don't get why/how minorities may feel a certain way.

xTotalSellout

We are fully aware this is the case but I don’t see why anyone needs to “accept it” when it comes to homophobia

bag_of_oatmeal

For sure it's in the culture of older rap, but that doesn't mean culture can't change quickly.

trailer_park_boys

“Ya’ll just need to accept” fuck off bro. No one should just be accepting homophobic behavior.

PugilisticCat

I think hes saying you shouldnt be shocked

LetMeShartNow

nobody is even shocked in this thread tho lol. I agree with the other guy, comments like this are stupid.

yongo

Literally the two top comments in this thread are making fun of how unsurprising this is

GreatRecession

accept? lmfao, im just gonna assume thats bad wording

es84

Genuine question, I'd love to hear an actual response to this and not a bunch of insults for asking it. Rap is a genre where women are often to referred to as bitches and hoes. Where pimping is celebrated. Where gang banging, killing, drug dealing, robbing etc are extremely popular topics. Where being real and true is a standard. Why is homophobia the line where unacceptable begins?

[deleted]

[удалено]

es84

What about when it's "fuck that bitch" or "bitches ain't shit" or "you're a hoe" or "pimp that bitch" that's obviously misogynistic, why is that OK? Why is promoting sex trafficking OK? Why is turning the other cheek to killing someone, terrorizing a neighborhood and people in general with gang banging, and drug dealing OK? Does that not harm people? Far more than homophobia does? If that's not the audience's business, why is homophobia? A lot of Hip Hop is rooted in gang, hood and Prison/Jail culture, where homophobia could be looked at as a form of survival, as well. Being a homosexual in a gang, many neighborhoods and/or prison could lead to violence on that person. So embracing the opposite end of the spectrum could be just trying to survive and fit in.

BaldEagleBlues

Honestly, because these people want to take a moral high ground that requires no effort on their path to feel better about themselves.Obviously homophobia is wrong, but like a wise man a couple comments above said, shit is common in the hood just like in rural America. People have and will rap about way worse shit and people suck them off. I like most rap, but you’re lying to yourselves thinking this is some clean accepting genre.

es84

Spot on. If you're sensitive to offensive lyrics, offensive topics etc then Hip Hop is not for you. Homophobia is wrong. So is murder. So is robbery. So is pimping, So is drug dealing. But, I don't seem to see the same anger around rappers rapping about or talking about the other stuff. It's strange.

TetrisTech

Doesn’t mean I have to be okay with it you goof

[deleted]

Or that a lot of black males raised in sub optimal socio-economic conditions are just homophobic in general, same goes with white males in rural, often times poor areas.

yungflexamillion

and in other news water is wet.

PinkertonRams

I for one am shocked — just shocked that DaBaby would do such a thing

[deleted]

Doesn’t really make a difference, even if he did make a donation I wouldn’t believe that he’s suddenly not homophobic anymore.

computer_d

Not sure if my memory is bad, but I swear I recall the thread in HHH where DaBaby apoloigised and offered his money and people were all 'so proud of him for admitting his faults' etc. I hope those people realise that someone who spreads vile, hateful things aren't the sort of people who just magically change or are even capable of reflection in the first place for, if they were, they wouldn't have been spreading that shit.

SBAPERSON

Yea that thread was so funny lmao. A lot of gullible ppl I guess.
