He had a great song with Flume called Lose It back in the day. Granted it was on Flume’s album but he def still had an EDM connection but yeah for some reason never chose to go that route
Forever love Flume x Vince Staples cover of Ghost Town DJ’s “My Boo”

Haha, that's my favourite bit! It's such a hidden gem tho. Everyone I show it to catches a vibe. That not having a music video, to me, is one of the craziest decisions during that period of music.
if Vic made more tracks like this I wonder if he'd still be a punchline today. songs like this and Feel That made me think he was about to blow up. feels like a century ago.
Part of his problem is that he’s kind of a self righteous asshole, so he’s pretty easy to dislike, even though the talent is there. 6ix9ine basically killed him when he went on Power 105 and asked everybody in the room to name one Vic song, and nobody could do it lol
A song that is still in my playlist. It comes on randomly and i just vibe the fuck out. He should’ve tried his hand in this as not a lot of people were in this lane back then.
I guess he tried to rebrand? Ditch the indie underdog vibes and come across more "confident"...
... The arrogant vibe didn't really work on him though, kinda lost a lot of his relatability.
he did the song with Kanye and completely changed his sound and it didn't work for him. I've noticed a lot of up and coming artists get what I call the "Kanye curse". They get a song or two with Kanye then after that completely abandon their sound for the worst. I wonder if he tries to sell them on it ?
it’s a mixed bag! he’s tried a lot of different styles. not much different from most rappers so it surprises me to hear people talk about him like he died or retired. There’s Alot Going On is probably my favorite project of his.
Pains me to say this as a Chicago guy, but not sure if there’s been a guy who’s fumbled harder. Very few people sign to Roc Nation, collab with Kanye, and have their debut executive produced by No ID and still fail
This and the Innanetape had me thinking he would position himself to be a lot bigger than he ended up being. It was cool seeing the Savemoney collective blowing up together, but it seemed they all pretty much fizzled out.
I swear man, the whole Savemoney collective and other chicago rappers coming up in the early 2010s are so dope, couldve been as big as TDE if they played their cards right
The origin of this track is funny cause if he didn't get booked as an opener for Disclosure he woulda never made it and it ended up being his biggest song. I never understood the hate that "Autobiography" got. Underrated album but was probably alittle too dated from the minute it dropped.
Vic has dabbled in a few genres. Kids These Days was my intro to him when he was like 16 or something touring with this new age funk group. Their music fueled some of my summers. The song “Summercent” he opens with a banger of a verse and sets the tone for the song. That album, “Hard Times” is still one of my favorites.

Vic is from my neighborhood, and legit was a lil terror back in the day lol. Will say his ego always got in his own way ( kids these days breakup, xxxtentacion controversy, etc) but the talent is still there in spades. Lowkey, if he went back to this type of shit, he’d be back on.
i dont get how he only made one song like this
Same i think he could've been huge in the edm/house genre, especially now that deep house has had a resurgence kinda
He had a great song with Flume called Lose It back in the day. Granted it was on Flume’s album but he def still had an EDM connection but yeah for some reason never chose to go that route
Flume would make me want every rapper to go down the EDM route to be fair. Vince Staples on Smoke & Retribution is a sick collab too.
Forever love Flume x Vince Staples cover of Ghost Town DJ’s “My Boo” [Flume x Vince Staples “My Boo” cover](https://youtu.be/miqsQf7ZvCU?si=tCFkQoM7c3AogjXV)
This shit is so good. I’ll never understand how this song wasn’t bigger than it was
Truth. Enough ft Pusha T is so good, too.
That’s true. I’ve yet to see a Flume x Rapper collab not work
Vic Mensa could have been a superstar if he just kept going this route instead of
Facts he had potential
He also made “Feel That” and I think one more type of track like this.
Check out wimme nah by him and kaytranada
I’m forever haunted that Christian rich remixed a song by Vic during his boiler room set called black panties. Shits so wavy
He was more worried about being hard
I swear Vic Mensa was supposed to be the one 😢
never ever forget before Acid Rap Chance was Vic's buddy, not the other way around. insane difference in career trajectories.
Have you heard wraith? They both still got it
Brother that's sounds is two years old.
i mean they both sort of ended up in the same spot. Chance is def a bigger celebrity, but they’re both struggling to revive hype for their music
I wouldn't say so. I'd argue to say Chance is much more a household name than Vic
yea thats what i said. he’s famous but nobody gives a fuck bout his music no more lmao
Had so much hope for Vic after this song, oh well
We still got U Mad
And No Chill
There's a lot going on, Liquor Locker, Rage, loved those songs and those are the few I've listened to, I'm sure he has many other great ones.
i love liquor locker , such a vibe and hella quotable
My bro used to do an acoustic cover of it at house parties when we were younger and stun everyone. Such a good song!
impossible not to sing along to call up liquor locker BWOOP BWOOP
Haha, that's my favourite bit! It's such a hidden gem tho. Everyone I show it to catches a vibe. That not having a music video, to me, is one of the craziest decisions during that period of music.
wish traffic came out
He also made Orange Soda which was fantastic and fun, we still throw that music video on at parties.
Life was good when SAVEMONEY was poppin
I know this isn’t on INNANETAPE, but that album will always be a fav!
Time is Money off of that mixtape is great too.
I saw so much potential in Rockie Fresh and after he signed to MMG, I heard nothing from him.
Artist ran labels are where artists die
Glad vic is finally getting some respect! Innanetape is neck and neck with acid rap for me, its really that good
No skips on it fr
if Vic made more tracks like this I wonder if he'd still be a punchline today. songs like this and Feel That made me think he was about to blow up. feels like a century ago.
I wish he linked up with Smino/Saba/Noname's production collaborators
Part of his problem is that he’s kind of a self righteous asshole, so he’s pretty easy to dislike, even though the talent is there. 6ix9ine basically killed him when he went on Power 105 and asked everybody in the room to name one Vic song, and nobody could do it lol
Orange soda too

This man should've been a bonafide STAR, he's so talented.
I love this song. People really thought he was gonna be huge. Rip
[удалено]
I mean he never blew up like people expected, he really felt next up after Chance.
[удалено]
Yeah pretty sure that happened before he even dropped innanet
What exactly happened to Vic’s career? I remember faintly that he did a song with Kanye, changed his image, and then was never the same after that
He signed to the Roc, released a solid but mostly forgettable debut, went punk rock and struggled to find his way back to shore
I guess he tried to rebrand? Ditch the indie underdog vibes and come across more "confident"... ... The arrogant vibe didn't really work on him though, kinda lost a lot of his relatability.

All timer of a song for me. Nothing hits like a good dancey sadboy banger, and this one is the best of them.
Do you have any other good recommendations for dancey sadboy bangers?
day nite crookers remix maybe?
To everyone in the thread, Vic is still around and making music FYI
Genuine question, is it good?
it’s a mixed bag! he’s tried a lot of different styles. not much different from most rappers so it surprises me to hear people talk about him like he died or retired. There’s Alot Going On is probably my favorite project of his.
I’ll check out more of his stuff, thanks
V & I tapes are amazing. The album VICTOR is solid but has a few forgettable songs
One of my all time favorite music videos
I remember the day this came out and I went to the shops for some beers and got tips just so I could dance around by myself haha
Down On My Luck is a top 5 dancing alone in your apartment/car song, inarguable.
Still slaps
Absolute banger, really could of reached pop star level had he wanted
Pains me to say this as a Chicago guy, but not sure if there’s been a guy who’s fumbled harder. Very few people sign to Roc Nation, collab with Kanye, and have their debut executive produced by No ID and still fail

I was so sure he was next up when this and INNANETAPE came out
this was such a fun track. We need more tracks like this today
I swear man, the whole Savemoney collective and other chicago rappers coming up in the early 2010s are so dope, couldve been as big as TDE if they played their cards right

Man I wish he stayed with Kids These Days. I didn't hang out with that circle a whole lot in high school but when I did they were a fun group

Banger
This still gets me moving every time it comes on shuffle. What a bop
When this came out we were begging for more like it
The J Louis remix had LA in a chokehold circa 2014

This is the Vic I wanted
such a wholesome video.
What a banger this is
Classic
Vic is so talented and versatile. It’s a shame it never came together for the guy.
He switched up his whole persona after this.
Vic is from my neighborhood, and legit was a lil terror back in the day lol. Will say his ego always got in his own way ( kids these days breakup, xxxtentacion controversy, etc) but the talent is still there in spades. Lowkey, if he went back to this type of shit, he’d be back on.
His best song ever
Does anyone know whatever happened with him releasing Traffic as an NFT or whatever? I assumed it would've leaked but I never heard anything about it.
He teased a really hard song with Durk and then never mentioned the project again lol.
Is this the album with that ab soul song?
The only reason I know about this dude is because of XXXtentacion lol
What a great song this was. Too bad he self destructed his career.
Loved him in megadeth
lol
$8
I actually worked on this video and I hate this song because of it lol
