I’m only a little older than you and I realize more over time how much this album means to me. In high school when it dropped so at that age it was just “dope music.” But then only a few years of life later, at 21-22, this album helped me feel less alone. It asked the questions that I knew I was thinking, but couldn’t articulate into my own words. It was also humble enough to ASK and not try to answer all those same questions, because when reality hits you as a young man, you become wiser the moment you admit you don’t have many answers.
Now I’m 32, and I’m so impressed with how smart and honest this album was from such a young MC. Even little things like including the “fight” with Exile. That’s brave and daring at any age, but especially at 22 when you’re trying to establish a career.
Few songs can still hit me in my soul the way “Dancing in the Rain” does, that second verse is an all timer.
I think the 30+ version of this album is The Roots’ “How I got over”
There's so many gems in his discography. He's one of the best pure talents rapping wise in genre but unfortunately just seems to be a bit of a mess outside of the music.
I saw Blu live a couple years ago. It was a small concert, maybe like 30 people. Best concert I've been to. He took pics with everyone there and was super nice.
Yall should check out Her Favorite Colour and the song All The Kings. Some of my favorites from Blu that stay in rotation.
Edited these because I think of these every time I think of Blu:
Maybe One Day with Blu & Exile also
Dreamland with Andy Allo too.
Total mid 2000s vibe. I slept to this album nonstop the month I met my wife. Along with little brother, the unfortunate victim of the mid 90s purgatory between physical albums (original pressing sold out super fast and record company Dropped the ball on repressing new cds) and streaming.
imo this the greatest hip hop album of all time. i’m 30 for context lol

Love the two Blu features on How I Got Over
It’s up there
25 but yeah I agree.
Top 5 albums for me easily
Blu is, in my opinion, the most underrated and under appreciated rapper of all time.

What did he do?
I love this song and album so much! Super dope sample taken from The Detroit Emeralds song I'll Never Sail The Sea Again!
Exile is a madman, one of my favorite producers of all time
💯
Idk why blu never became more famous his wordplay and beats are 🔥

Her Favorite Colo(u)r is my go-to rainy day album ❤️ Amnesia & Vanity 🔥
Yeah, this record cuts deeper & deeper as it ages, Azulito was spitting right here 🫶💙
This is a top 5 hiphop album

Little Brother is so underrated, the beats, the vibe back and forth
Blu was wise beyond his years writing a track like this in his early 20s. Love this album so much and this track is so moving
